What's great about it: Sale prices are cheap
What's not so great: Paper Jams with no paper installed

"Had the ESP 7 hard-wired into my home network. It printed OK. Never scanned correctly. Never could get All-in-One software and Easyshare software installed at the same time on any computer on the network. I updated the firmware. I used the Kodak help website and chat feature. I got nothing but printing to work.
I got a "Paper Jam" displayed on the LCD. I followed the Kodak directions to clear the error in their "Step-by-Step Solutions & Repair" pages. I got nothing but the paper jam errors when powering up with no paper. There was not a scrap of paper in the printer. Oh, and the cheap plastic parts break easily when sliding the trays open and closed looking for the problem.

What's great about it: great quality photos, low cost ink, kodak tech support very helpful
What's not so great: ink cartridges seem to hold less than most models

"Lof of people have cited problems with priting. I had problems initially but contacted tech support and they sent a new printhead and its has been great since. photo quality is really important to me and kodak delivers as always color and b&w documents all look great. printer is a little noisy, but doesnt bother me. reasonable price"

What's great about it: WiFi and Paper Handling
What's not so great: Print heads and cartridges

"The WiFi connection and automatic paper selection are the only good things I can say about this soon to be boat anchor. I was upgraded by Kodak from the 5300 all in one for print head problems. I liked that machine. The ESP 7 SUXXX!!!! It is horrifically noisy during the start up process and if you don't use it EVERY DAY the nozzles dry out and if you want to print photos you will be fooked to do anything other than run the Nozzle Check, Clean Printhead and Align Cartridge utilities endlessly until you have no choice other than to replace the cartridges.

I have never been as unhappy with a particular brand as I am Kodak. Their product sucks and their tech support is worse. Oh well. Save your money and aggravation, buy an Epson or Lexmark. You'll thank me for this. Really.

ive had better printers   04/22/2009
By lori1223 from Allentown, PA

What's great about it: cost of ink
What's not so great: photo paper tray jams and doesnt always stay connected wirelessely

"i bought this printer because i seen the ad on TV on how much the ink cost$$$$ and that it prints very nice pictures. Well those two things i like about the printer i've printed a couple picture with kodak sampler paper you get with the printer. the ink cost is great. After the first few weeks i had it when i turned on the printer it would do the cleaning thing and get the printer ready, well everytime now i turn it on the photo paper jams and i have to use my hand to unjam it because it is not functioning the way it should which is really weird. Plus i have it hooked up wirelessly and half the time it comes up that i have no connection which is really annoying then i have to punch my code in again. So i got sick of doing that and i went out and bought the Dynex 2.0 USB printer cable because the ESP 7 and 9 printer dont come with the printer which i think it should(ripe off). Im thinking about taking this printer back it is not good quality. Im very disappointed in this product. I have another printer a Brother ive had no problems with it and it works great, i just wanted this printer for the cost of ink and printing photos."

this printer won't print.. constantly gives blank sheets, must do maintenance.. contacted Kodak, sent me a new printhead, and after a few printings, blank pages... Won't print Word Art from Word3.. just blocks of color..Now they say I must use Kodak Inkjet paper to make it work right..

My old HP V40xi is a trusty backup that prints perfect...to think I "lost" a hundred twenty bucks on this...

What's great about it: Just bought this from my local BB. Set up was a breeze, even the WiFi. Duplexer is a great feature
What's not so great: Really loud, yowsers. Thank goodnes it has WiFi. It's going to have to be set up in the Laundry room, hehe.

"I Just bought the ESP7 today, and set up was a breeze, even the WiFi capabilities. As long as you know your WiFi network security password, you shouldn't have any problems getting this up and running on your wireless network. This printer has some great features for it's price point. Wireless capability, quality scanning, and a built in duplexer! I didn't even see on the product description that this had double sided printing capabilities which is odd. That's kind of a big deal, and a great "green" feature. Setting up the printer to automatically print on both sides of the paper is a piece of cake in the printing preferences. I've installed the software on both of my laptop's and my desktop PC. There hasn't been any issues printing wirelessly. Gotta love that. The only thing I've noticed so far that disappoints me is how LOUD the printer is. Holy cow...thanks to the wifi, I can at least set it up in the laundry room or something. If you're looking for something really quiet, this won't be the printer for you. The print quality may be a shade under some of the HP models out there too, but I haven't printed any actual photo's yet. Even so, and with the less than desirable decibel level (it actually woke my wife up from a cat nap), I'd give the printer an overall 4 rating (for now - I just set it up a few hours ago). The features, including inexpensive ink, wireless capability, built in duplex printing, and superb scanning, make this printer a great deal for the money."

What's great about it: The speed is decent when it works
What's not so great: Use A LOT more ink than my old HP. Jams often.

"The Wifi took awhile to setup due to my firewall. Once setup it has worked fine. I am very surprised at how much ink this unit uses. I do not print in color yet the color cartridge is goes empty at a slightly slower rate than the black cartridge. The unit WILL NOT function if one of the cartridges is empty. The paper tray is small and must be opened to add paper. A paper slot is a much better option. The unit is very loud when it cleans itself upon startup. Not good for a home office where family members may be sleeping.

Overall I fell for the infomercial and print ads for this unit. Yes the ink is less expensive however you use more of it. I'm just speculating here, I think the cartridges don't hold as much ink as other brands. I'm out of date as far as returning the unit so off to Ebay or the trash can it will go. I will be purchasing another HP or maybe even a Cannon.

What's great about it: Wireless, reasonable price; cheap toner; easy set-up
What's not so great: A little noisy

"I'm technologically-challenged but I had NO TROUBLE setting up this printer. I love that it's wireless! It prints fast although it is a little noisy. I've spent a fortune on toner cartridges over the years and I'm so glad someone finally came out with a printer that uses reasonably priced toner. It has 2 paper trays which is also nice. I load the top tray with 4x6 photo paper and use plain paper in the bottom tray. I haven't used the scanner yet but the copier is easy to operate. Besides printing pictures from my laptop, I've also printed straight from a memory stick and the pictures came out great. This is a wonderful printer!!"

What's great about it: 2 trays, good 4x6 prints
What's not so great: constant maintenance functions waste ink

"After reading mostly positive reviews,I bought this printer in January 2009. Had to search several weeks, every BB in the greater PHX area, to find one. Live full time in a 5th wheel RV so wanted to eliminate separate scanner and printer.
The first problem was the owner's manual was only in French. The last print job of my old printer was to print out the owner's manual in English from the Kodak web site.
Installation took all afternoon, but was fianlly accomplished using a USB cord. The WIFI set up was too complicated.
Initially, the print quality and use of cartridges was excellent.
Now, however, I am constantly running the maintenance features just to get it to print. Even after printing several pages in a day, it will suddenly put out blank pages and then hours and ink are wasted trying to get it to print again. I print nearly every day, but still have this all too prevelant problem.
Also, when printing test pages after trying all the other maintenance functions, it will quit before completing the page. Sometimes lifting the top of the unit will make it start up and eject the paper. Sometimes, I have to pull the power plug to get it to reset.
It is a big pain overall. I am on my 4th set of cartridges already. I used to go 6 months or more on my old HP with the same volume of printing.
I don't usually print 4x6 photos, but because it is easy on this printer with the 2 trays, and I got a good deal on Kodak 4x6 paper, I have printed a lot of these photos and they do come out well.
Don't buy this printer unless you have a high tolerance for frustration and a lot of time to mess around with it.

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Ink dries up - Wastes the Ink Cartridge - Noisy

"Within (2) days printer wouldn't print - called tech support - was not impressed. Have used (3) Ink cartridges so far in less than (2) months. Have had multiple HP's in a commercial environment - this Kodak isn't 1/10th what the cheapest HP I've ever used is. The ad sucked me in - never again. Going outside to smash this thing in the street and off to get an HP. Only wished I had returned it while I could have, would sell it online but wouldn't do that to another person... Junk belongs in the trash. Oh well, Live and Learn."

What's great about it: Looks Cool
What's not so great: Print quality is poor/ defective, WiFi difficult/ Ink replacement

"II WOULD NOT "EVER" RECOMMEND THIS PRINTER TO A STUDENT OR ANYONE WHO DOESN"T USE THEIR PRINTER ALMOST EVERYDAY! I purchased this product from BB in CA about 2 months ago. I have had to call Kodak at least 4 times w/o any resolution over the WiFi connectivity issues; however I troublshooted it myself and found that if your printer IP address is static set for a lower integer than your computer's IP then everything will be fine; otherwise it's a never ending Troubleshoot of off/on procedures until you accidently make that happen. The ink is "special" because according to a Kodak representative it is made out of a pigment that "requires" regular use or it will dry out. In my experience I have already had to buy replacement ink and I have barely printed out 50 or so pages due to this "drying out". Some value, huh? Also, apparently , due to irregular use, the printhead itself has this pigment "dry" on it and cause printing isues. I am currently awaiting a printhead replacement in order to resovle this issue. Not only that but because of numerous "print troubleshoots" my ink levels on my second cartridges are already at 30/25%. Kodak has adopted a new policy "no matter what they will not give out printer ink to customers reguarding mechanical issues", but the representative was happy to offer me some color photo paper for my trouble. Remember I have only had this printer for 2 months. If you are a print happy photo loving fool, then this is the printer for you, otherwise I'd suggest anything from the HP PSC family as that is going to be my fallback printer. I have had the PSC1600 for a couple YEARS now and the only thing wrong with it is my daughter broke the print catch tray off of it. It doesn't have Wifi so I'll be back to cables, but at least I can take a vacation w/o having to buy more ink."

What's great about it: Quality, Speed, WiFi, all in one, Ink
What's not so great: None

"I have to question all these bad reviews. I've had this printer for about a month now and have printed out 56 pictures and 25 pages of documents. I've not had a single hiccup or problem. The reason I chose this printer is because my cousin has the same one and loves it. She too has had no problems. I went from a epson all in one to this and by far love this printer a lot better.

This printer is great- its fast, good quality, cheap high quality ink. The wifi range is fantastic. I love not having to be even close to the printer to print stuff out. I also like the fact i can just put in a memory card and do everything from the printer if i wanted to w/o using a computer.

Con: Packaging - was a pain taking off all that blue tape! lol

3) Have to clean the printhead before each print. This waste ink, so the cost substantially increases.

What's great about it: Um.. The ink
What's not so great: Everything else

"I purchased this printer along with my laptop and camera, one of the main reasons I purchased it was the wireless feature. When I first installedf it and set it up it worked great, until 2 days later(if that). The dang thing kept saying the printer was not responding and that I needed to make sure it was on.. Well needless to say IT WAS ON. So I tried using the USB option, it worked for like one print job then it was having the same reaction. ERROR PRINTER NOT RESPONDING. Well I went to the website did tons of trouble shooting.. I wont take you through step by step but let me just tell you, I am the type of person who has lots of patience and can look past just about anything. After weeks of fooling with this thing I am about to throw it out the window.
It seems that the drivers once installed have a time limit or something (thats the best way of putting it) The printer will print via USB, the wireless option will not work at all, and it will only print about a day or two and then it goes back to the same problem.. Uninstalling and reinstalling the printer is not my idea of convenience.
Dont buy...

What's great about it: Nothing, not one single thing
What's not so great: Multiple problems right out of the box.

"Add me to the long list of reviewers who experienced multiple problems with this printer. 1) While it did connect to my wireless network easily, the printer would go into an idle state and not wake up when a print job was submitted, so I would have to power off/on every time I wanted to print. A firmware upgrade may have resolved this, but other problems occurred before I could get the upgrade. 2) After not printing for about a day, it did not print anything except a few orange splotches. Had to re-calibrate in order to get it to print. 3) Then, the infamous Paper Jam. No paper was in the printer, but it went into an eternal Paper Jam state. After spending time talking to a Kodak help-line employee from India about the firmware, I did not want to spend more time on the phone to resolve a phantom Paper Jam. I returned the printer 8 days after purchase and exchanged for an HP. The returns associate had seen many of these returned before for the Paper Jam problem.

In my opinion, this printer is an embarassment to Kodak. I trusted their brand and was bamboozled by their low-cost ink marketing. I recommend no one purchase this printer. In addition to the problems listed above, the paper tray assembly is very flimsy and prone to breakage, and the paper capacity is very low. Print quality was OK but not as good as my older HP PhotoSmart.

The best part of this experience was the quick, pain free exchange by my local Best Buy. Kudos to their return/exchange policy.

What's not so great: The piece of junk doesn't work

"I knew it was trouble when I hooked it up and it said the printhead was missing or not installed properly. After replacing it many times and rebooting it I decided to contact the help support. Of course it's someone from India who asks if it's plugged in and etc. I then began to look at the product reviews for this printer and they had confirmed my fears...This thing is garbage. Apparently this occurs frequently and is one of the many problems with it. As soon as Best Buy opens up tomorrow I will be in line returning this garbage for an HP. For the price tag this printer commands you can get something a lot better that actually works and is reliable."

What's great about it: Excellent Photo Quality and Features
What's not so great: Just not reliable

"We love the 4 X 6 photos from this printer. They are better than emailing and picking up from the local photo shop. But, this machine is just not reliable. The set-up CD worked for our desktop which has been printing wireless just fine, but did not work for our laptop. Both systems are Vista Home Premium so we can't figure why one would work but not the other. But the worst thing is that when you want to print, you are printing blank pages all the time and then having to clean print head, correct nozzles and calibrate the printer to get it working again. Just wasting time and ink all the time for the basic function. Too bad... this printer is full of good ideas and high quality photos but just falls waaaay short of reliably executing the basic function of a printer. Hooked up our 8 year old HP 960 deskjet tonight and tomorrow I am taking back this Kodak and the extra ink and photo paper I bought. Going to do a little more research before buying another printer."

"I read all the reviews before purchasing this printer and I figured I would take a shot because it was wi-fi and the price was good. I'm GLAD I did. It is a little noisy, but who cares? I had no problem setting this printer up. There are two options, use the CD or use the internet. When the CD didn't work, I opted for the internet and I was done. It has memory card slots and a place to plug in your camera and print directly. It's great and it prints great photos. Take a chance. The ink lasts and if you do a lot of printing, the replacement cartriges are so cheap!"

What's great about it: features for the money, if you can get it to work
What's not so great: unreliable

"I bought this printer and had problems setting it up. Customer service advised me the installation cd that came with the printer was no good. I needed to go online and download program from there website. One day later the printer got an error message saying it had a "paper jam" but there was no paper jam. After another hour and a half with customer service they advised my print head was defective and would mail me a new one. After the new print head arrived and was installed, the printer worked for one more day and then started printing blank pages. At this point I was feed up and returned the unit to Best Buy. Thinking I had just had some bad luck with this one defective unit, I exchanged it for a new printer of the same exact model. When I got home I installed the printer and it worked for one day before I got an error message saying the computer and printer were not connecting and the print head was defective. Needless to say, this was a horrible experience and all the features in the world are no good if you can't get the unit to work!"
