What's great about it: Small, and cheap.
What's not so great: Disconnects and is slow most times.
"Seagate isn't as great as people claim. There performance is slow, and for me, disconnects often. This happens to my brother who also owns a Seagate external harddrive. Still not bad for the price."

What's great about it: Super easy to install and use. No problems at all. I Love This!!
What's not so great: External power source (110 volt wall outlet) but it seems all the external hard drives this big have that.
"I plugged thing in and within minutes I was on my way. Super easy to hook up, install and use. I would highly recommend this product. Between all my music and pics it was either buy a new computer with more storage, which I can't afford or get the Seagate 500GB external hard drive. I didn't realize how bogged down my puter was until I freed up about 50% of the stuff on the hard drive which was full."

What's great about it: Well for the first 24hrs it did work
What's not so great: It died, the first HD that I bought that ever died before the payment was posted on my credit card.
"After buying this unit to transfer files to a new PC, it died within 24hrs after installation. Unit does not appear or is not recongized by windows. Tried trouble shooting methods and tools from Seagate. I have read on numerous sites that this drive is very sensitive and doesn't take much to go bad or fail. Save your money get a harddrive enclosure kit."

What's great about it: Ease of Installation & Use
What's not so great: It didn't come with a case or stand
"This thing is great! It took about 2 minutes to install the software, and backing up our files was simple. Plus, I think $102 for 500 GB is a good deal.
If you're looking for an external hard drive, this is a good one to consider."

What's great about it: Loads of Memory, Lifetime warranty
What's not so great: None
"I have a sea gate hard dive. It is amazing. I use the e-sata to e-sata connection which allows data to travel at 3 GB/S. The one problem I have is that sometimes the hard drive is not recognized so I have to reboot my computer a few times and replug the chords in to get connected. Other than that I have loads of movies and pictures on this hard drive and still have a lot of room. I love sea gate!"

What's great about it: Easy to set up, good price, looks good
What's not so great: Didn't work for DVR recording
"I bought this on sale and it was a great deal for the price and the amount of storage space it offered. My main reason for buying the FreeAgent Desk was to expand my DVR's recording capacity, through it's USB connection. It was a breeze to set-up and get going, my DVR recognized it fast and reformatted it properly, and I was able to start recording programs right away. Unfortunately, it would record programs "live" if I manually hit record, but it would not record programs I set up to record when I was away. I assume it was a problem with the drive going to sleep after a certain period of non-use. Anybody with a DVR will tell you that this is a problem since that's one of the main functions is to record stuff you can't watch at the time. When I plugged it into my computer and reformatted it once again, it worked fine and everything worked as it was supposed.
Bottom Line: If you are looking for a good external hard drive for backup or just more storage space, get this product. If you are looking for a hard drive for use with a DVR, get something different (MyBook)."

What's great about it: good price
What's not so great: software
"Pros: Almost stupid proof installation, Fairly fast for USB. (9 to 20 minutes for initial back ups) I use the drive to back up 2 computers and have 300 gigs left. Stylish, vertically small foot print when used flat. Can turn off winkie lite which shows if drive is being accessed. Better than average USB connector, avg. USB cable quality and length. Has ability to adjust power saving time out. Price is good for 461 GB. (I wish the geeks and salespeople would get together on that one) Software is on NTFS formatted hard drive not a disk. Backs up “document” files excellent and automatic if wanted. Software is user friendly. No noise and very little vibration when running. Overall quality of case is fair to good. (It's not really meant to be portable) Cons: Runs slightly warmer than I like when flat. (warm not hot) Rubber thing's that serve as feet when flat MUST be glued on to stay. Included software is great if you only want to back up “documents” and certain files. It will NOT back up your system files or make a copy/ghost of your drive. Need third party software to clone drive. Other thoughts: I left Seagate/Maxtor management software on PC and drive just so I could control Lights/power options, a few extra bells and whistles plus the occasional time I only back up my “documents”. A program that works excellent for copying/ghosting an entire drive is “Macrium Reflect” available for FREE from CNET downloads. “Macrium” also directs you to “PE Builder” in case you don't have an OS disk and need to make a System boot disk on CD/DVD for TOTAL crashes. Anyone can back up files on a $ 9 flash drive and retrieve IF your system boots. My windows XP backup utility only lets me make a boot disk on a floppy. I don't even OWN a floppy."

What's great about it: 5 seconds out of the box and its up and syncing and backing up on the fly.
What's not so great: LED lights are basically for show, not really indicative of anything other than general activity.
"This device was on sale so I was a bit skeptical, but Seagate came through again with a great device. It literally was running in less than a minute under Vista right out the box. The sync feature is cool."
