What's great about it: Speed, great Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, and TruBrite Display.
What's not so great: Speakers and touchpad/mouse.

"I considered this Toshiba E105 one of the BEST Laptops for a Economical PRICE. Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and Intel Centrino 2 contributes to the computers PERFORMANCE. Intel Core 2 Duo; updates your computer to new software to be up to date with Leading Technology. Intel Centrino 2; delivers high-reaching levels of multitasking performance, its energy efficient keeps you powered until the last squirt of juice, and the Wireless range and speed increases to an up to date technology. Its TruBrite Display keeps you engaged to your gaming and work.

THE LOWS:
Even though the Toshiba E105 is a great peace of technology, everyone of them have CONS. The speakers lack on quality for good performing sound, but there still out there. The touchpad/mouse is to sensitive and it wares off easily.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
This is a great piece of TECHNOLOGY for the price and the performance equipped in it. The processors and hard drive storage allows the computer to be used in everyday life, at the arcade, and at the office. THE ONE WORD: PERFORMANCE!

What's great about it: Performance, Speed, Battery Life, Keyboard, Design
What's not so great: Nothing

"This is by far the best value out there. The next generation Centrino processor is amazingly efficient. The battery life lives up to the manufactuerer's claims. Furthermore, at under five pounds, the laptop is easily transportable. The back lit keyboard is the cherry on top!

At this price, you can buy a Sony with a worse processor and bulkier design or a used Mac. I'll sacrifice brand name for a sleek design and unbeatable performance at this price.

What's great about it: Battery Life, Light, Design, Backlit Keyboard
What's not so great: Speakers, Runs hot, Slower than expected

"I research every single laptop with 3+ hours battery, 3+ gb ram, 5.5lbs or less, 250gb of HDD or more, and $800 or less. This one came at the top of the list. The battery lasts 5+ hours, it is light and I love the backlit keyboard. The prints on the keys are hard to see when I do not turn the back lights. It is slower than I expected for its processor, but not enough to bother me. The fingerprint scanner log in is fun. It runs hotter than I expected (but not as hot as my other laptops - I have had 5 or so in the past and they all ran hotter than this one.) Very reliable and I am happy with it so far."

What's great about it: design!
What's not so great: sound system

"For the price, Toshiba put bad speaker system. They are horrible.
Out of box, it was easy to setup and almost ready to use. Restore disks were already provided.
Using it since three days, so not much to say about except the speakers. Liked the boxy design though(dont like the barrel style hinge).
Planning to return the item.

What's great about it: Light weight, fast, backlit keyboard, long battery life
What's not so great: speakers

"Just recently bought this computer and I'm loving it.Upgraded from an older model Toshiba which I had for about 2 years. Was quite fond of that Toshiba Laptop so I thought I'd stay with another Toshiba.I immediately liked the weight of it when I picked it up and also liked the backlit keyboard.Don't know why more computers don't have a backlit keyboard, but after having it for about a week,I don't know how I ever got by without it.The processor speed is amazing and the ease at which I can multi-task is great.Another big perk is the battery life.I can actually carry it around and use it without having to worry about it shutting down after 30 minutes. The only real complaint I have is with the speakers, which pretty much sound like headphones turned all the way up and set down on the computer, which is bad even by laptop standards. Also,if your a gamer this computer's not for you,but I'm sure you'd know that.Overall though I love it and would recommend it to anyone."

What's great about it: 2 Yr. Factory Warranty
What's not so great: Cheesy, Loud Left Click On Mouse

"Son starts college in the fall. Not a gaming computer; however, the 14" Toshiba appears to be a good compromise between portability and decent screen size....should be good for the student lugging around a computer on campus. Main selling points for us were the 2 year (most are 1 year) factory warranty (didn't go w/ the store protection plan as a result) and long battery life. Everything great right out of the box.

A word of advice......TAP TO CLICK or buy an external mouse!! Don't use the left-click on the keyboard mouse. Imagine the sound and feel of the power button on the cheap satellite receivers.....the loud CLICK? Sounds just like it.

But hey, if that's the worst thing you can say about a laptop, it's probably a good unit.....and this one appears to be.

Happy Computer Huntin'!!

What's great about it: Centrino 2 processor / Back-Lit Keys / Light Weight & Thin / N wireless / 4 hour Battery
What's not so great: Vista, but can't wait for Windows 7 to be released!

"Used for home and business:

Now, I have not a clue as to WHAT all the negative reviews are for on this E105... but I have had little to no issues other than one. But I think this is the case on all laptops due to Vista. When I use a USB wifi booster, then close the lid and goes to sleep... then open lid to awake... all USB devices are re-activated with the exception of the wifi booster. That I don't understand.

With that said... I will say the speakers are a bit lacking... but I never use them anyway. I either plug it into my home speaker system or have it on headphones when out and about.

I absolutely LOVE this computer!! I think for the money (and believe me... I DUG and looked around and did intense research to try and find another of such value or better) this laptop blows away all other laptops in its category!!

I mean, really... where can you find a laptop with a Centrino 2 processor (which is currently the top-of-the-line processor), 4 gigs of memory, a BACK-LIT KEYBOARD (this is #1 on my list as I am always in dark places), and a 320 gig hard drive, all for $799 (well, actually, I got mine for $699 due to the fact that I had purchased two other laptops previously that turned out to be duds and so Best Buy's manager said to go pick out another laptop and we'll work a deal for you. WOW... Well the E105 was my pick, obviously!)?? But even at $799, it's a smokin' deal!!

I love the fact that it comes with Windows 64 bit Vista Home Premium! I have used both 32 bit and 64 bit on several other computers and I find that 64 bit OS is more stable and trouble free (with SP1 installed).

One review states that this laptop only has 2 USB ports. NOT TRUE! It has 2 regular ports and a eSata / USB combination port. So there are really 3 USB ports.

It also comes with a built-in radio receiver and an antenna to plug in if you should decide to use it. Pretty cool... but I rather listen to Pandora. Regardless, it's still a cool feature.

I will say that it also comes with the big N's Anti-virus. REMOVE IT as soon as you get this laptop!! N is JUNK!! It will slow your system down and take it over - (if you know what I mean) The anti-virus software that starts with a K is much better.

The LCD monitor is good, but wish it came with an LED back-lit monitor. It would then consume less power and probably would have gotten over 5 hours of battery time. Plus, the LED monitors are crystal clear and thinner - which would have made this laptop even thinner by about an eight of an inch or better. Not a big deal... but every bit counts, I feel.

In closing:
All the problems other people have claimed to have with this laptop have NOT happened to me.

You also have to remember that not all humaniods are created equal. No offense to anyone... but some people have problems with everything.

Try this laptop for yourself!! I think we all have to find what it is that really works for each one of us individually. I have tried a few and realize that there really is NOT a better choice for me... for the money... out there than this E105-S1402.

Good Luck to all...

What's great about it: Nice processor speed
What's not so great: fingerprints, crazy touch pad

"I upgraded my laptops from an old Dell with Xp to this computer. My first impression was that anything new looks good. I researched on battery life and found that BestBuy has two laptops under their blue label. So, I had to flip a coin on this Toshiba or the HP. The Toshiba was 100 dollars less and with a bigger screen and longer batter life. Sold!

Out of the box, it booted without an issue. The touch pad is configured somewhat odd and reacts to the slightest touch. Toshiba has installed media control buttons on the fight side of the computer so it is novel not great.

Wireless connection was difficult to establish but after downloading Magicpro from linksys I was up an running. No doubt that I will have to uprade my wireless router now.

The screen looks amazing, keyboards are soft with no clicking noise when you compress them type a lot like I do. Special feature: Hit FN + Z and you will back light the keyboard for working in the dark e.g. airplane or some lousy video presentation.

Forget about the speakers; they're terrible sounds like a radio playing in another room.

This system came with a 60-trial version of MST Office 2007 and of course they will try to get you to buy since all your docs nowadays are in Word.

Battery life is not what they say I have clocked it running yahoo music cast
word and it is slow to drain. However, I expect it start clocking in about 3.5 hours when the battery gets used more often. However, at this time, I have clocked in about 4.5 hours un plugged not bad if I might say so.

Weight not bad but could be lighter. You pay for the extra weight due to the 14.1 screen size. Bestbuy takes the battery out when displaying so when you pick it up subconciously you assume it weighs nothing at all.

Overall, I like what the blue label represents price, weight, and performance go hand in hand. Time to step up your game to a blue label.

What's great about it: lighted keypad, speed
What's not so great: touch pad, easy to hit the mute button

"Overall, very happy with this purchase. In the past I have spent a lot of money on laptops - so I asked the clerk to show me one that was not very expensive so that I would not feel bad in two years if I got rid of it. So far, very pleased with it. I only use headphones when listening to movies, etc. and the sound is fine. The speed is great for me - I am not a gamer and wouldn't think a gamer would buy this though. The price is right for what you get.

Minor issues include the finish of the machine - fingerprints show up easily. The mute button is easy to turn on/off. The touchpad is a little awkward to use.

What's great about it: keyboard lighting, 4hrs of battery, quiet
What's not so great: has a hard time playing video files unless wearing headphones, horrible speakers

"The clicker has popped off and it slides into the laptop. When I'm playing a video file, not only does it have bad sound it freezes in bits unless you're wearing headphones which causes the freezing to stop. The best thing I like about this laptop is the keyboard lighting."

What's great about it: Lighted Keyboard
What's not so great: Slow, Speakers

"I purchased this laptop and thought it would be wonderful. It seemed to have everything I needed. I absolutely love the lighted keyboard. Unfortunately that's about the only redeeming thing about this laptop. Maybe I got a lemon - maybe the rest are wonderful - mine wasn't. It was so incredibly slow - my HP that's 5 years old is faster than this laptop. The speakers being so bad was the final blow. I plugged in my headset and prepared myself to listen to my music from Rhapsody with the headset. Between every song it would make a ticking sound - very annoying. I switched headsets... still happened ... tried them on a different laptop - no ticking so I knew it was the laptop.

Fortunately I was able to exchange this laptop for another one and I am much happier with my new purchase.

What's great about it: Fast, perfect siz, lightweight, durable and performs like a champ!
What's not so great: only 2 usb ports, no 10-key but it's a trade for the size, speakers are weak and tin sounding

"I use this computer for my business. I loaded it with heavy programs for accounting for various clients. Web design programs. Graphics and photo programs. TONS of files. And it handles it all like a champ!

I can work in various programs at once, listen to music and surf the net without missing a beat. Easy to use.

No 10 key, but that's a trade off for the size. The speakers have a tin sound, aren't very good but will do. only 2 USB ports, but that's easily remedied with a FAN/usb hub combo.

Overall, I'm thrilled with this computer!

What's great about it: the price and SUPER FAST processor!!!
What's not so great: keep a soft cloth and cleaner on hand... gets marked easily!!

"I feel that I need to review this laptop because people on here have bashed it. Let me just say I am very good with computers and I am VERY picky about speed, memory, and other features when it came to buying my first laptop. This is a great little computer. The size is just perfect, the display is very crisp, the brand new intel processor and 4gb memory with the 320gb hdd make it so easy to multi-task programs like word, i-tunes, photoshop, and internet browsing all at once. the finger print entry and built in webcam/camera is a nice added bonus.... the only thing i would say is the speakers aren't that good so I would recommend that you buy headphones that have a nice feature like noise canceling to listen to your music on -itunes and desktop speakers for around the house/work/travel.... this is a winner and a steal for the price... A++++++"

"Toshiba has been consistently making a stellar product that is more reliable and better priced than all of its competitors. I love my Toshiba laptops! We have two and they have been serving us well for the past three years!!! This great comp has:

1. Intel Centrino 2 processor technology with Intel Core2 Duo mobile processor P8400- amazing!
2. A 4 GB hard drive- plenty of space for all you pictures, games, software.
3. PLUS has a built-in webcam and mic!! If only all computers came with this feature.

You will be able to take this computer with you on business trips or family vacations. We bring ours when we travel around Europe, upload our family photos and then instantly post them to our website, so our relative and friends can enjoy them in real time! It’s fabulous! And for $799, you can’t beat the price!

What's not so great: Fingerprints really get on it quickly and its hard to wash off also the speakers suck real bad.

"This Laptop Is Great I Mean it cost me 799 and 857 with taxes. It should of costed probably 50 dollars less but at the same time i look at all that is has and it has alot of things that most other laptops have and cost so much. This laptop works Great for anything. I open many things at the same time and it still works quickly. I use it to download music, movies, edit movies and many other things. Well i had it for 2 weeks and I love it so far everytihng is great except two things. Fingerprintss get on it and its hard to remove them and the speakers suckk too like their too low volume. Also i fell asleep with it and when i woke up it was on the floor. I tried turning it on and wow it still worked. just in case if anything i went to go change it with the insurance but incredibly it still worked fine. I highly recommend this laptop. Its great and it has many good features"

What's great about it: display, fast, great battery
What's not so great: strange design, keyboard is just ok, disk drive bad placing

"Really good laptop, i felt that Best Buy with Toshiba really hit the mark with this laptop. I've used this laptop for about a month and i understand all the basics of this blue label machine. I really wish this machine was about 50 dollars cheaper, which would make this machine a steal. At $800, it's a reasonable price but definitely not a steal. In all reality, it's an acceptable price but not a bargain. now onto the review.

the pro's:
+great battery. 4-5 hours
+great size and weight. compact enough to be mobile, but big enough to be practical
+powerful. really good specs for this kind of comp
+virus protection and solid vista integration(as good as you can get at least)
+three3 usb ports. don't be deceived by the specs page. yes, there are 2 usb ports, but there's a 3rd that's compatible with other ports. so basically, you get 3 usb ports on this compact laptop.

the con's
-speakers suck, everyone agrees here
-the disk drive feels really flimsy. big gripe here. everytime i carry it, i feel the drive press into the comp. i'm worried it'll break one day.
-a little too pretty. this is hard to explain. after a month, i still feel ucomfy getting this computer dirty or smudged. maybe it's weird, but the shiny appearance definitely makes me think twice about how i touch it.
-keyboard is decent, but not perfect. it's a little smaller and the keys are slightly thinner. the warranty DOES NOT cover busted keys

overall, i think it's a really good laptop. I don't regret buying it at all. This laptop is definitely unique for a toshiba, so that's a good reason to buy it but there are similar laptops out there. I would recommend it, but if you can't afford it then it's not a big issue.

What's great about it: Excellent machine performance, reasonable price
What's not so great: Vista...but Bill Gates does have his monoploy after all

"I always have had good experiences with Toshiba laptops and this one is the best yet. I like the chassis style which is different (boxier) than other Satellite's. I like no latch on the screen (which tends to get caught on things with other models). I saw some reviews that say the machine is too hot to hold in your lap. My experience is this is the coolest running laptop I've ever used. The battery life is somewhere between 4 and 5 hours which is great for folks like me who do a lot of travelling (I hope it lasts longer than a year, which is the performance I'm used to). Processing speed is great, even with CAD software that I use daily. 15 months of Norton anti-virus is a plus. For the most part, the software loaded on the machine is usefull...not a lot of junk."

What's great about it: New price, backlit keyboard, lightweight, lengthy battery life, feel-good keyboard
What's not so great: Speakes, touchpad gets a little wacky at times, keys placement for a few buttons coudl've been better, left click sucks

"The S1402 is one of the best mainstream laptops for both casual and hardcore users. The value of the laptop for it's new $799 price (as opposed to its original $1099 price a few months ago) is great. Despite having a few glaring flaws, it's hard to argue with its performance at an affordable price.

Pros: Processor, RAM (although not much flexibility in terms of upgradability), backlit keyboard, the keyboard feels nice to type on - it's not loud when doing a lot of typing, battery life is long enough to watch to full feature length movies on a single battery charge, light enough to carry around in your back pack or in a case on your shoulder without being bothersome, runs medium-graphic games at a fairly good rate (i.e. WoW with a decent frame rate), comes with an eSata and HDMI port. Vent placement is nice, you can keep the laptop on your lap without it burning your legs. Cool fingerprint reader. 14.1" screen looks beautiful and just big enough for me to watch movies on and not strain my eyes when I'm typing yet still light enough to take to class. Webcam is cool. Mic works well for typing notes with Microsoft OneNote.

Cons: Umm for such a high end laptop, the speakers this thing comes with is probably THEE worst speakers I've ever heard in a laptop. I've tried them with external speakers and headphones and still the sound quality is terrible. If you like listening to music (as I do), this flaw alone made me second guess this laptop. Keys like the F1-F12, the END, INS, and DELETE button are all terribly placed (i use all these keys). Touch sensitive controls on the right side are a pain to use especially when it comes to adjusting the volume. Umm, only two usb ports. I would've love to trade the FM port for a VGA port (I seriously dont see a need for it). Touchpad freezes some times I have yet to find an explanation for that. So far, I've been having trouble with burning CDs but its most likely an issue from software.

Overall I'm happy with my purchase, I was able to buy a laptop case, and the standard 2 year black tie service for a little over $1000 with the financing. I'm confident that I've made an excellent investment because it feels like I got a steal and as a customer, that's the best feeling in the world. You can always adjust the sound settings to get rid of the lifeless, echo sounding speakers so its not the major of an issue, but a glaring flaw nonetheless. Using this laptop in class is nice because you dont have to worry about battery life (since it lasts about 4 hours), backlit keyboard helps you see the keys in a darker auditorium. Don't expect any high end gaming on this (trust me I already tried) but games like World of Warcraft, you'll be fine. I'm able to listen to music, while typing a word document, with mozilla firefox up with four tabs, and while chatting on AIM without a hiccup. If you like this laptop but are looking for similar 14.1" options, consider the new HP DV4-1365dx (new laptop) - it looks beautiful, has similar performance and has better speakers at the same price. Or if you're looking for a screen thats a little bigger, try the Dell S15-158b or the HP DV5-1235dx - these were all laptops I was considering before getting this one. The 14.1" screen perfectly fits my needs for school and is good enough for home entertainment as well - highly recommended.
