"THIS TELEVISION IS A GREAT DEAL FOR THE MONEY. THE PICTURE AND SOUND ARE EXCELLENT. HOWEVER, THE ONLY DRAWBACK THAT I EXPERIENCED IS THAT THE TV AND THE CABLE REMOTE DO NOT SYNCHRONIZE. ANOTHER WORDS, I CANNOT PUT ON THE TV WITH THE CABLE REMOTE AT THE TOUCH OF ONE BUTTON. I FIRST MUST PUT THE TV ON THEN TURN THE CABLE ON AND OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN FOR THE TV TO PLAY. ONCE THE TV IS ON, I AM TOTALLY SATISFIED WITH ITS PERFORMANCE."

"I was kind of leary of Toshiba after being a huge Sony fan for so many years but I thought I'd check this one out because of the price. It looked pretty good in the store and knowing that they use coax cables there I knew it would look better at home. Right away my wife and I noticed that for the price the picture and colors were a little sharper than the lower model Sony and Samsung and it's cheaper which was a plus. The built in speakers sound great (tv's normally have 5-10 watt speakers so no tv is going to have amaizing sound without a surround dound system). At 60mhz and a 8ms responce time the picture is actually great and for video games and movies you can't beat it for the price. I actually like 60mhz tv's better because the picture doesn't look to "real". When you watch high def on a tv with 120 or 240mhz the picture looks like its too real and takes away from the cinematography which bugs me a lot but this one does just fine. My only gripe is that during dark movies it lightens the screen when using captioning but that's to be expected from any tv like this. All in all the Toshiba has been the best tv purchase I've made and with it's features, multiple unputs and outputs (and yes, the optical is an out which lets you hook it up to a surround sound system and the HDMI does audio and video instead of just video unlike most tv's for this price) 3 hdmi ports and VGA (for computers, and old xbox 360's) it's a steal at $650!"

"Let me start off my saying that we have really enjoyed this television, especially since purchasing a Blu-Ray. The picture is truly amazing. HOWEVER, six days after the one year warranty, the sound suddenly shot up to max volume and when shifting to different menus, it was appeared that everything was forced to the right. For example, max volume, very far right choice on a menu, etc. After calling the manufacturer, we were told we would have to pay a repairman to come out, but that Toshiba could not identify the problem. After the repairman came out, he said that it was the main board that would have to be replaced and that this was quite common in Toshiba. After a week, the office called to tell us what the estimate might be and the part with labor (including the price for the original visit) will cost us more than the television costs now. The repairman stated that you should always purchase the extended warranty on these televisions because they often go out and cost more to fix than to replace. Lesson learned."

Defective Toshiba Screen
What's great about it: Nothing What's not so great: LCD Screen is Defective
"I purchased this Toshiba less than two years ago. At first is was fine, but slightly after the 12 month warranty expired the TV developed a verticle rainbow of colors down the left hand side of the screen which covered abou a third of the screen. The problem would come and go but only got worse. Now the problem is constant and won't go away. The cost to fix the unit is more than what it would cost to buy a better model. I contacted Toshiba to express my dissatisfaction, but they would not extend the warranty. This TV is Defective. I have read other reviews expressing the same defect. Toshiba should recall this TV. Bad product Bad customer support. I will not purchase Toshiba again."

"Don't worry about this only having a 60Hz refresh rate. I am pretty picky about my video picture and have no problem using this TV to watch NFL and movies. The sound is fine. I never noticed any problems. I spent a fair amount of time calibrating the TV with a calibration disc and when I was done I noticed that the built in picture presents were better than what I did! (That's good news for you!)"

"I have 11 years in audio/video sales and was not the biggest fan of Toshiba, but this TV is impressive! It caught my eye in the store but I was debating over how much to spend since it's used almost exclusively for gaming. What sold me is the gaming mode (enhances response time on controller and set) and it being 1080p for the price. It is replacing a 32" Sharp Aquos I bought a few yrs ago and the first thing I noticed was how vibrant the colors, brightness and black levels are, which I'm sure has mostly to do with the contrast improvement. I'm very happy so far and recommend this unit for anyone looking for a mid-size HT or gaming set."

"Very nice TV. Have monster Hdmi cables connected from the Cablebox to my Toshiba. I also have a Panasonic Viera 50inch which cost me over 2k and both Tv have the same Quality Picture. < I cant tell the difference> highly recommended. PLZ if you get a HD TV use HDMI cables to connect, dont have to be monstercables . but you do notice a difference using HDMi connections"

"Sound: My heart murmer is louder than this thing. If it's for your bedroom watching TV, but not action movies. Then it's fine. But if you like to watch movies or want it in your living room or open area, plan on having to buy a sound system. I think my laptop does just about as good with sound. Picture: Haven't been too impressed with the picture having never had an LCD before, I expected more. Think I'd have been just as happy with a regular tube TV. Maybe I haven't figured the thing out yet?
For some reason, ESPN has no sound with the TV in which all other TV's in the house have no problem. What good is a TV if you can't hear ESPN? Not sure what to make of that, but this alone might make me return it?
Got it at a great price, so I guess that's good. Probably pretty comparable to other TV's at this price."

"Have had television for just over a year. Company admits to having problems with Panel on 46 inch. Exact same probllem, identical as is shown on website. They say it is only for 46 model not 40. However they admit it is the same television....? They hung up on me when I called the "customer support" number and told me "I didn't know anything"......I would buy any other TV other then Toshiba. Save yourself the hassle, trouble, and money."

"Went looking at all the major brands around 40-46inch and kept passing this toshiba up due to the specs.After two days of looking came home with this and i would do it again.Dont let the 8ms response time and 60hz scare you as with fast moving sports and games it is still perfect.I am a cable service technician and i see around 5-10 tv per day and i am being totally honest that after calibration i have only seen a handfull of tv that beat this in picture quality.Sound is another issue,while not bad if you like better sound get a soundbar.Blacks are great on this,color is perfect and spot on but recomend color temp on medium or warm."

"I had $600 to spend and went with Toshiba because I know great things come from them. I am absolutly asonished with the picture with HD! Nice TV, seems to be built well to last. I don't like the high gloss boarder that scratches really easy, but I will still give it a 5 star rating! Unless you have money for a Samsung or Sony, go with this LCD, you won't be dissapointed!"

"I purchased this TV as a computer monitor. This thing looks and works great for this application. Never again will I go back to a normal computer monitor.
Only thing that I did not like to much was the sound quality out of the built in speakers.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to use a HDTV as a computer gaming monitor. Even though it has a 8ms response time you cannot notice it compared to any other smaller monitor.
It just looks and works great."

"I bought this on Friday and am very pleased with the TV for the price. I was looking at this, a Sony, and a Panasonic but I just thought that there wasn't much picture difference between the 3 and this was the least expensive. I watched several football games on Saturday & Sunday and was very pleased with how well the picture was. A lot of other brands for some reason aren't very good when it comes to sports.
The picture with my PS2 isn't very good. Fortunately, I'm getting a PS3 here shortly so I'm sure that will look much better since these TV's are more suited for the newer consoles.
The sound is pretty good for the most part. If you have a home theatre system then the sound is a moot point (which I do have).
Great purchase for the money (I was able to get it for $599)."

"After purchasing this TV, I bought a Phillips upconverting DVD player. The DVD player worked fine with the composite connections, but would not work with HDMI (so no 1080p). As I'm new to HDMI connections, I spent (literally) months researching the problem, purchased 3 different HDMI cables, went on numerous online forums, paid some online service to address the problem (with no results), and still I could not get the HDMI connection to work (and I tried all 3 HDMI ports). I tried the DVD player on another TV; it worked perfectly as soon as I plugged it in. Then I tried another DVD player (a Sony) that worked on this other TV. I hooked up the HMDI connection to my Toshiba TV, and it would not work either. For both DVD players, I would get flashes of picture or some sound, but it would never work. I've since come to the conclusion that this TV does not want to work with HDMI devices. I have not tried a Toshiba DVD player with an HDMI connection, so that might work. But the level of frustration (even now, months later) causes me to discourage you from buying a Toshiba TV. But, other than this problem, I like the TV (hence the 2 stars)."

"I maybe writing this a little pre-mature, because I just picked it up last night, but when my Best Buy Brand Plasma broke after 3 yrs , I decided I would be better off spending a little bit more money on a TV that was reputable. I was right, the Toshiba is a great TV and the price isn't too bad either, considering the quality and name brand. I spent $100 more to get a much better TV and one that will hopefully last a lot longer than 3 yrs. If your contemplating between a Dynex or Insignia (Best Buy Brands) and a Toshiba/Panasonic,...Do yourself a favor and spend a little bit more to get a better product, one that will last!"

So guys save are money that you would spend on the other guys, and take that saving and get you a sound bar. and you set for Sunday Football. The depth and color are a 10.. better than that 42 sony that cost 1000 or more....In my book this TV bets all of them..just go and look you will see what I am saying..."

"Bought this TV in June and then purchased the cable HD in Aug. Problem, the HDMI handshake between the HD Console and the TV do not engage well going screen after screen of "No video signal" before engaging. Cable company changed their equipment twice, but problem persists. Called Toshiba and they said it was a handshake problem created by old HD Console technology and they would do nothing. They also indicated most cable companies had this older consoles so too bad. Toshiba would not indicate the make and model of the HD Console I should get from my cable company to resolve this problem indicating the problem is realy with the TV. I found the Toshiba Service Rep. unsupportive and the problem is still being reviewed as to whether or not they will repair it."
