What's great about it: Sleek design, great true HD display, awesome keyboard
What's not so great: problems with user settings, glare on screen
OK, so I first purchased this laptop when it was 849 and thought that it was a great deal because of the the features that are offered on this machine are comparable to laptops that range in the $1500 to $2000 range such as the great display, backlit keyboard, 4gb ram, and 64bit vista premium. The first problem that I came across was that it would not save my screensaver settings through a reboot of the computer. I would set the screensaver to go off in 5 min, then reboot the computer and it would display that it would go off in one minute but then NEVER go off. I believe as a result of this, there is a burnt out pixel in the middle of the screen. The second and most annoying problem that I came across was that it would randomly boot up in the middle of the night. This thing would wake me up randomly around 3 or 4 by spooling up the fans and turning on the keyboard for about 30 sec, then suddenly shut off leaving me completely awake. I exchanged this one for another one and am still dealing with the same issues. I talked to Gateway and they sent me some restore cd's. I reinstalled Vista and am still dealing with it. Geek Squad is sending it off to Gateway, hopefully I can get it repaired soon because I'm a full time college student and practically live off my laptop :(

What's great about it: Great display, lots of memory, fast processing
What's not so great: Short battery life
I have been a lifetime Gateway user. (First was a 286) I work in the computer business and this laptop does everything you would want. Easy to use, huge colorful display, solid build. So far, the only drawback has been the battery life, but I am trying to condition the battery to improve that.
This is another fine Gateway product.

What's great about it: Great bang for your buck
What's not so great: Integrated Graphics Card
I really believe this a great laptop for the price. You have a lot of memory 320 GB, 4 GB RAM, and Premium Vistas. So once you have a TV tuner you can watch and record your favorite tv shows, not to mention all the room you have for music and movies. I'm a college student and it has been great for me. I love the backlit keyboard, which you can't find on many laptops, so it's easy to do work in the dark without having to fumble around to find your keys. Plus too if you work with photoshop or anything like that, it works well on the system.
The only thing that would really push it above and beyond is if the graphics card wasn't integrated and it had something with a little more umph. Although, it cannot be too bad if it has an HDMI connection. One thing that it's also great for is hookng up another monitor to increase your working space and basically using it as a desktop when you're home, so long as you have another LCD screen.
I would definitely recommend this to any of my friends looking for a beautiful and well-performing laptop with a good 3 hour battery life. Props to Gateway for a good machine.

What's great about it: Beautiful screen, gret design, good price, illuminated keyboard
What's not so great: keyboard not sensitive, grainy webcam
When geek squad told me my laptop finally gave in after 5 years, I was sad but happy to get an up to date one. This laptop stuck out at me with its beautiful design and edge to edge glass screen similar to the new macbooks. It's such a great deal at 799 when you have competing laptops like the HP HDX16 at 1800!!! Love the illumination and all the features, especially the 64 bit processor and 4 GB ram. The only gripe is the keyboard. I have to press harder than usual, unlike my old computer which was real intuitive and the web cam. Although it is a great feature, its a little grainy and not really high quality. But then again, I don't know if this is standard for a web cam since ive never had one on a computer.
Bottom-line: Great purchase at the price with all the specifications going into this computer. If you don't believe me, search the competition online.

What's great about it: Great screen, backlit keys
What's not so great: A battery that won't charge and a camera that's too grainy to be of use
Admittedly, I've only had this computer for three days, yet I'm already experiencing problems. My main concern, which I'm sure is just a defect, is that the battery will not charge. I've tried shutting the comp down for the night in the hopes that the comp just needed to be completely off before it would charge (which would suck, because I use my computer almost constantly), but I could live with that. But when I checked again, the status of the battery was still empty.
Another problem I have with the machine is that the camera is truly horrible. It's grainy, and it practically takes a masters to figure out how to use it. But then, that might just be the learning curve on Vista.
But despite it, the machine has some great features, which is why I bought it to begin with. I love the screen. It's bright, it's clear, and it would be fabulous to watch a movie on.
I also like that unlike other newer computers the touchpad is NOT shiny metal. It doesn't have so much drag.
The side buttons are convenient, but I'm not sure if they're customizable yet.
All in all, this is an ok machine. It's not fabulous, but it's not terrible. But I suggest waiting for the price to drop a bit before buying this. I would have had I known.
Good luck.
