I have lived in South Jersey for about 60% of my life. I know this area very well. I wanted and got a cheap GPS device for light to medium navigation. I mostly drive to NJ and occasionally to PA and occasionally DE and NY, but I am somewhat familiar with those areas as well. Tom Tom 125 is excellent for my needs. However, in the Long Island, NYC areas, it is inadequate. Tom Tom 125 only tells you right or left and on the quick moving, maze of congested roads of Long Island and NYC it is inadequate. Had I been moving to those areas, I would need a more expensive product. Currently, I only rarely go there to visit family and friends. I am moving to Toms River, NJ, where other family lives and it has always met my needs there.
I have lost the Tom Tom 125 signal while driving in 2 places in NJ while driving. One was on Route 9, Manasquan Reservoir, Howell, NJ and the other was someplace else in Monmouth County. Tom Tom 125 seems to have a real problem with Route 9 throughout several municipalities, one of the major thoroughfares down by the NJ shore. Oddly, on the wilderness areas of Route 70 while going shorebound from Medford, it does a stupendous job (unlike many cell phones which are known to lose signal there).
Tom Tom 125 has a small screen, which is fine for light to medium navigation needs. Tom Tom 125 doesn't navigate Canada or Mexico. It does give you a choice of toll roads or not, shows the route as you are driving it (with the road names on the screen), remembers some of the past places that you have inputted when prompted, remembers your home address and has a help menu (the nearest: police, fire, hospital, pharmacy, dentist, car repair, gas station and public transportation).
What's great about it: Inexpensive, simple to use, excellent for easy to medium navigation
What's not so great: Doesn't tell you street names, only turn right. Not good if you need some serious navigation (Long Island-NYC area).
I would recommend this to a friend!

This GPS works really well. It's easy to read and tell's you a ton of stuff, like if you are over the speed limit, how many more miles to go, and even where the closest gas station of McDonalds is. I also love that if you do take a wrong turn, it will rewrite the route so you don't have to worry about getting lost.
The only problems I've had are that sometimes it will get touched accidentally and then as a result it'll start rewriting the route. Also, sometimes it has said left when it means right and vice cersa. (Like the arrow on the screen will poimnt right but the voice will say left).
What's great about it: it helps a lot
What's not so great: does easiest routes over quickest routes

I purchased two of these for Christmas 2008 and they immediately revealed their value.
My pop is the type who gets out his trusty map book to plot every road trip then obsesses over every turn. As well, when they would come to town, dad would become a nervous wreck. He was always afraid that he would miss his turn because of the way people speed and tailgate here on the interstates.
The 125 has eliminated all of their worries and has gotten my parents back to enjoying road trips. It's intuitive, large buttons, clear displays and the voice commands are timely...letting you know about upcoming turns well before you have to make them.
The 125 is a perfect match for the budget-minded, directionally challenged and less than super-tech type. We're so happy with it that we're buying four more for other relatives.
What's great about it: Ease of use for three generations
What's not so great: Have yet to find one

I got this for Christmas last year. It has been great, and hasn't given me any problems. Always gets me to where I need to go. It's nice to be able to see POI (Points of Interest) along the way (FD, Police, Hospital, Attractions, etc.). How much information is displayed is customizable, as well as the voice, and colors. It's a little small, but an incredible value for the price. The touchscreen has been great. It doesn't incorrectly pick where I pushed on the screen. The "night colors" feature is nice so that it can be dimmed and won't blind you while driving at night.
What's great about it: Easy to use menu, easy set up, great price, customizable.
What's not so great: A little small

Good product especially for the price, very user friendly, many options (voices, themes, upgrades), you can back up your information through TOM TOM.com You may want to double check the routes in advance it (GPS) may plan a route different then what you might expect. Also, it doesn't allow you to view expand your view in advance or even away from the point of interest. Very portable, comes with car adapter, comes with mounting hardware. I would be recommending this other people beacuse of its easy of use and lets face it, for the price you can beat it.
What's great about it: Easy to use, user friendly, great price
What's not so great: Some routes are planned different then expected

Nice compact design, easy to navigate , but without "text to speech" i I felt like i was listening to my wife give directions ( you should have turned left back there etc...recalculating route) I would not recomend this unit. spend the extra for one that has tet to speech and your life will be easier.
cannot search for POI's (points of interest) farther out than 1 mile from your location--such as restraunts.
What's great about it: its very small and portable
What's not so great: NO--> Text to Speech,

-EASY TO USE.
-GREAT VALUE
-IT REALLY TAKES A LONG TIME TO START-UP, SO I RECOMMEND BEFORE YOU TURN YOUR CAR ON, PLUG IN THE CHARGER (BATTERY DIES FAST) AND LET IT FIND THE SIGNAL PRIOR TO DRIVING.
-EASY FEATURES, MEANING YOU CAN VIEW THE DIRECTIONS VIA PICTURE, TEXT, ETC.
-YOU CAN FIND ALTERNATIVE ROUTES, ETC.
-I LIVE IN L.A, SO WHEN I GOT STUCK BY THE LA AIRPORT ON THE FREEWAY, MY TOM TOM GOT ME HOME SAFELY BY EXITING....IT MAY HAVE BEEN A LONGER WAY, BUT NOT KNOWING THE AREA, IT TOOK ME HOME JUST FINE.
-IT'S COOL THAT IT DISPLAYS HOW FAST YOUR DRIVING IN COMPARISON TO THE AREA YOU'RE DRIVING IN, I.E-IT DISPLAYS THAT YOU'RE DRIVING 65 IN A 45 ZONE...IT CAN BEEP WHEN YOU'VE REACHED THE SPEED LIMIT OR IT CAN BE SILENT AND TURNS RED WHEN YOU'RE "SPEEDING"
-OVERALL, GOOD ITEM FOR THE $$$$, HOWEVER, KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU MUST GIVE IT TIME TO START PRIOR TO DRIVING AND PLEASE, KEEP THE ITEM PLUGGED IN AT ALL TIMES AS THE BATTERY DRAINS FAST.
What's great about it: WHEN ON SALE FOR $99, YOU CAN'T BEAT THE PRICE
What's not so great: WHEN TURNED ON, IT TAKES TOO LONG TO FIND SIGNAL & SOMETIMES SENDS ME THE LONG WAY.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I really like this GPS, I think the tomtom has the best features such as mapshare and all the downloadable voices. However I had to return the unit:
Cons:
1. It does not show you the upcoming turn's street name. This is really important since it does not have text to speech. This is a huge problem.
2. The maps software is not great. Going places I always to it was off on 2 out of 6 of them by a block. These roads have been there for 50 years...
3. It does not tell you when you have missed the turn, it just recalculates.
I love everything else about it but I ended up returning it for a more expensive garmin.
What's great about it: Great Price, big enough screen
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I despise my TomTom One.
I find it amazing how much hate I can have for such a little item. Here are the reasons I just want to blow this thing into a million pieces:
(*) The "Avoid Roadblock" option is buggy. I used it tonight and it "detoured" me by having me drive in a big loop that ended at the same point I was at when I told it to detour me. As I was driving thought it felt like a pointless loop and it was!
(*) Sometimes the destination is wrong. It's usually right or within a mile of the actual destination but it's wrong far too often.
(*) It will go out of its way to create inefficient routes. On this route I needed to travel on a road parallel to the one I was driving on. It had me needlessly pass a perpendicular street and travel to another perpendicular street further away for no reason. Since I didn't know where I was going I didn't realize it was planning such a stupid trip until it was too late to save the time.
(*) I live near Orlando. Whenever I want to travel to the central-east / southeast coast of Florida it sends me up an interstate running northeast to Daytona Beach then south on I-95 to my destination. There's a pair of highways running directly east that this device stubbornly refuses to use and when I do it cuts a huge amount of time and distance from the path TomTom chose. I know TomTom is buggy in this way so I ignore its directions when I'm leaving the house, but when I'm coming back from some destination I'm not entirely familiar with I would like to know I'm heading back the right way. I have to wrestle with the thing for about 5 minutes until I can force it to change its path to one that makes sense.
(*) This thing usually harasses me with a nag screen telling me that the path involves unpaved roads. Unpaved roads? Why does it always tell me unpaved roads when there is no paper jam...er.... unpaved road? (Sorry, I channeled "Office Space" there for a second) And yes, there was a time when my path really did have an unpaved road and it didn't warn me.
(*) After you enter your destination you will never see it again. Say you're heading to 1575 Main Street, after about 15 minutes on the road you might forget that house number. Keep it around on a piece of paper because the TomTom WILL NOT allow you to see the address once you're heading to it. How stupid is that?
(*) The GPS module is junk. After turning it on it will sometimes take 4 minutes for the device to figure out where it is. (It has a timer displaying this duration so 4 minutes is not an exaggeration) You'll learn to leave it on so that it doesn't lose its position but...
(*) ...the battery is pathetic and will drain way too fast and shut off anyway.
(*) If you update your map the favorites you have entered will be erased. This was confirmed as a bug on one of those times I got to speak with tech support.
(*) The mount device is awful. Awful. It rarely snaps on right and you'll settle for it being on "good enough". Then you touch the screen and it pops off and slides around your dashboard.
On the plus side the device is small, the screen is easy to see, the voice clear, and the screen easy enough to navigate with.
And, yes, I am actively looking into buying a new one from a better company.
What's great about it: Small, easy to see, won't break easily
What's not so great: Poor navigation ability, poorly designed features, terrible mount
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We bought this just before Christmas because we need it for our roadtrip to San Francisco & Oregon. I chose TomTom over Garmin because it's cheaper and for me you don't need those beautiful vibrant colors as in Garmin because you're traveling and you want to see the scenery not your GPS interface. Besides, you already had your CD player and whatnot in your car so you why spend more on other unnecessary accessories?
What I like about it is it's simple, of course you have to get used touching the small screen but I find it easy to use. You can always set bigger keypads if you have bigger hands. After all, you're not typing some Words document on it so it shouldn't be a problem.
The maps are up-to-date but there are time when suddenly the screen showed that you're out of nowhere. It happens when you stopped at some rest area, or over a turn on some county roads where it could not pick up some signals, but that was temporary and you'll get back on track.
Yo could always play around with the color scheme or the way your vehicle looks with its limited option but heck, does it really matters? As long as it could take you from point A to B without having your turn around and lost yourself, I think this one just make a perfect basic GPS.
It also has several voice option after 4 days drive maybe you just got sick listened to the same voice telling you to "turn around when possible" each time you made the wrong turn, you could always change it to British accent, younger voice, softer voice, your choice.
You can always download extra info on the web, I downloaded a Walmart location all over US so in case we need to buy some more breads and fruits, you can go to TomTom website to find more cool stuff for free and for sale as well.
What I don't like about it is sometimes when you want to delete a list in your recent destination, it won't let you. You have to delete everything and since you could not store it in your favorite place like you bookmark your favorite website, you have to key-in everything all over again.
There were time when we stopped by McDonald to eat and we want to hit the main road back, it gave you the longer turn around where you could actually hit the back road and merge to the main road. after all, it's a machine and not humane.
Other than that, this device saved us a lot of time and we're so happy with it. During our trip, when we arrived to Salt Lake City, it was dark and freezing, so all we did was simply hit the places of interest near you and find motels to sleep in. It also help us when we arrived in Sacramento, SF and Portland. So, you just don't feel afraid driving in the dark out of nowhere because you will know where you are.
What's great about it: Good price and it takes you where you want to go.. just touch and go!
What's not so great: sometimes you have to delete all and key in everything all over again
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is a great device for first time GPS owners! I have been using it for about a week now and it has been working perfectly! It does miss some newer streets but I suppose that will be updated when the newer maps come out. I would defiantly recommend this product to anyone who want a simple GPS unit and doesn't want to spend all the money on a fancy one.
What's great about it: The price is affordable and for first time GPS owners, this is the way to go!

I was torn between buying TomTom one 125 and Garmin Nuvi 200...read all kind of comparison/reviews/videos all over the web! Finally decided to go for TomTom. Im glad I got this one. This is my first GPS, but still I am surprised that there are lots of navigation features - Help me, Navigation to zipcode, navigate to point on map, position of last stop, find alternative path (by eliminating some paths), avoid road blocks, prepare route from A to B, map corrections and many more-----all this in a basic model. Not to forget TomTom Home application, which is a killer app! It is the best value one can get for 99$!!
What's great about it: mapshare, free upgrades, navigation by zipcode, safety features
What's not so great: i have not found any yet

We've had this (our first GPS, we haven't figured everything out yet) for ~ 2 weeks. We live in an RV and travel a lot, especially to places we've never been to. So far it's taken us to the right places. (some destinations not on the map)
What's great about it: Does what we need (gets us there)
What's not so great: Needs to be plugged in.
