What's great about it: good value for money, excellent ventilation, great screen and speakers
What's not so great: No LEDs for hard disk, CAPs lock, NUM lock. No web cam. Funtion key access is different

"Its extremely good performing laptop for the money I paid. This is my 7th or 8th laptop and so far I have no major complaints. In fact, I am very satisfied with its performance. Though this machine is not equipped with all the fancy features most of the laptops carry, it does the job for me without any major issues. In fact, I'm using my laptop at least 10hrs everyday. Its been several weeks since I bought it and its performing very smoothly.
However, lack of basic LED indicators for hard disk operations, CAPs Lock and NumLock is quite inconvienient, but you get used to it after couple of weeks. It would have been really good if the unit had a built-in web cam. but I knew that I was not getting one when I bought it. So, no complains on that.

Windows Vista Home premium seems to be working alright so far with this unit. No BSODs (Blue Screen Of Death) so far..! Dell has done a decent job with this model which does the job for me without any hickups !!"

What's great about it: For the price, you can't beat it. Low fan noise (when you hear it at all). Very good performance, overall.
What's not so great: Battery does NOT last, fingerprints, not the best speaker sound.

"My main concerns with it are the lack of battery time (I just unplugged at full charge, and in under 10 min, I lost about 45 min. worth of battery charge - why? And I've only had the laptop for a few weeks - bought it last month.)

Also, fingerprints are very noticeable soon as you touch it at all, because of the shiny, smooth texture. The speakers are so-so, but I wasn't expecting too much from a laptop to begin with.

Overall, very pleased with the performance and ease of use. You really can't beat it for the price - very happy with my purchase!"

What's great about it: The High Def screen is really nice, as is the sound. Very Easy Set Up, and very clean lines
What's not so great: The Touchpad, fingerprints are left behind everytime you touch the casing.

"For the price, I wasn't really expecting all that much. I was pleasantly suprised in some ways, but disappointed in others. My main complaint is the touchpad. It sometimes takes more than a double click to get a cursor to appear in a window or a type feild, no matter how much you adjust the sensitivity, and click and dragging on the scroll bar in any web browser results in changing the zoom, and I have yet to figure out how to avoid this. Of course, this may be more Vista than it is the computer itself. Running more than one program at a time, most particularly a music player, slows the performance down as well.

On the other hand, the High Def Monitor is a great feature, making even the smallest font clear, bright, and easy to read. The sound quality is excellent, at least for me, and the multiple USB ports and memory reader are a convience. The Memory and Harddrive are very decently sized for the price as well.

All in all, a great computer for the price, with a few bugs that need to be worked out."

What's great about it: Simple, Easy, Pretty fast for it's class
What's not so great: Fan noise every 10 Minuets, fingerprints

"So far so good with this laptop. I'm impressed with the speed of this machine and the fact that its very simple and not over featured. The cooling fan kicks on every 10 to 20 minuets at full blast but then calms down even though it's annoying the machine runs very cool as it's on all day long. The screen is gorgeous as long as you look at it head on, but that is expected in this price range. The keyboard is comfortable and not noisy at all. Overall I'm very happy with my choice."

What's great about it: Cheap
What's not so great: Loud, hard to keep clean, "touchy" touch pad

"For the price it is a great deal. I dropped my HP (so sad) and needed a computer quick since I take online classes. I didn't want to spend a lot so I read the reviews for everything under $700 and this definitely had the best reviews for what I needed. I have had it now for 2 months and all in all, it does the job and I am happy with it. The fan is loud, the touch pad sometimes acts possessed, but the worst part is the fingerprints. There is no way to keep this computer looking clean. Oh, and my charger went dead, but I am taking it back this weekend so I hope they give me a new one! It's not my HP, but it is also $1000 less, so I can't complain!"

"I was in desperate need of a new computer and just ran into Best Buy to pick something up. All I needed was something that had a word processor and internet access for a super reasonable price and this was it! Once I got home I was up and running in less than 5 minutes. The battery life does in fact stink and I was advised of this in the store but wasn't too worried about that because it was replacing a desktop and would be plugged in all of the time anyway. If you are looking for something that you need for little things and are low on cash then by all means give this laptop a shot."

What's great about it: Quick set up, price is a major plus

"Great computer for the price. Easy to set up. Internet connection was one of the easiest to do compared to my other laptops and desktops. I have wireless internet and four other computers. Once the setup is complete and you shutdown the computer, it is quick. It only takes about 4 minutes or less to start. When I purchased this, it came with a carry bag and laptop shelf......also easy to use, connects to a USB port and keeps the labtop cool with the fan running. Bottom line: BEST BUY"

"This computer is great for the money! I paid 479.99 for this laptop, and it is far better than my previous laptop. I have used Acer, HP, Compaq and this Dell is far better than any laptop I have used before. The screen is great...the dell dashboard is great and very convienent. What's great about it: it was cheap
What's not so great: so incredibly slow, have always had to restart constantly, worst speakers ever

"The speakers are so bad that with itunes on the highest volume and the computer volume on the highest level, I still can't hear much at all. I bought the computer only a couple months ago, and I already want to get a new machine. This computer needs to be restarted constantly. It gets bogged down after I look at websites with multiple images - I thought it was Windows Vista, but I realize others don't experience this.
The webcam is handy, and the machine is light, but I would gladly go back to my purchase day and pay $100 more to get an HP."

"I have had this computer for 2 weeks and its last 2 weeks. Not to long after I got it the battery shorted out and it over heats after being on for 30 minutes. This computer is very slow and takes about 5 minutes to open a program it also has extremely slow internet access. I would not recommend this computer to anyone looking for a good quality computer"

"I'm a fifteen year old who had been looking for a good laptop, on a babysitters salary. After doing a lot of research, I was sure of what I needed in a laptop.

I had decided I was going to buy either an HP laptop or a Compaq i was looking at, but when I went to Best Buy to look at others, I saw this one and loved how it looked.

When I got it home, I was absolutely surprised at what it could do. It started up quick, and was easy to use from the start. Internet is great on it, as well as watching movies. The screen quality is great, and the keyboard is very easy to use, unlike some laptops. The only downfall about the keyboard is there's no separate number pad, but I can live without it. Battery life is about 2.5 hours on the reccomended setting, which is okay for me.

I also play a lot of The Sims 2, and Zoo Tycoon, and I was very surprised with how the games played on here. Compaired to a slow desktop, this laptop not only loaded the games faster, the gameplay was much better.

This laptop is a great computer for anyone who has a tight budget, like I did. It surprised me from the start , and I absolutely love my purchase."
