Great PC

What's great about it: Very fast for the moderate user, unbeatable price.
What's not so great: None
"I picked out this PC for my aunt. She was running an 8 year old Dell with a P4 and i think 1gb of ram? Ugh. It got to the point that she could barely run the virus protection program on her computer. But anyway. She is a moderate user; checking e-mail, storing a bajillion photos. Usually I wouldn't recommend a quad core and that much ram for this these types of tasks, but this computer is in the same price range as the computers suits her needs. So this computer was as steal. Great buy, runs great!"

What's great about it: The potential is great, haven't tested or used everything yet.
What's not so great: Size, not a big issue when talking desktop.
"It has 4 gigs of Ram, expandable to 8 gigs. 640 GB hard drive. Combine that with the Quad 4 processor. This makes for an excellent computer for the kids as they grow and start doing video & picture projects. I shouldn't need to up grade for a long time!"

What's great about it: It is a very fast computer with lots of memory and ram
"I purchased this computer for my Grandson. I highly recommend this computer. It has a great hard drive, plenty of memory and ram. A great buy at a very reasonable price. It's hard to find a good computer without paying extra for the loaded items."

Good Computer

What's great about it: Good price, easy to set up, quad core
What's not so great: 1.8 ghz per core
"This computer is great if you are looking for an upgradeable computer. I purchased this computer with a 9800gt videocard and it runs left for dead 2 on full graphics. it can also run autocad and photoshop with ease. Even though 1.8 ghz doesn't sound much per core.. its still a quad core and you should be able to run almost everything."

i love this computer

What's great about it: Very easy to use, very cheap compared to other computers, very reliable
What's not so great: I can't find one lol.
"I bought this computer on my birthday in march 31, and this computer has been very good to me since then.
I play world of warcraft a lot on this computer. I am in a raiding guild, and i pretty much use this computer heavily for gaming. The graphics isnt the best, but this computer can be looked as a starters gaming computer because it has so much room for upgrades. I've read other reviews saying they upgraded their power supply and graphic card and its 10 times better. I just dont have the extra money now to upgrade yet.
If you treat the computer nicely, it will love you back =D
So, all in all, if you have a small budget and you're into online games, look into this desktop, its more than decent, and it's more than enough for school work, the other big plus side is the huge hard drive space. Enjoy =D"

What's great about it: just about everything
What's not so great: Vista
"I bought this computer a year ago, I am kind of guy that likes to keep up with the Jonses, but I have found that after buying this computer, I have no need to purchase another one, I love playing games and have had no issue at all with this, I love it - despite the fact they crammed Vista into it!"

What's great about it: very fast, easy set up, price was great and love the quad 4
What's not so great: hard drive sync light is in the back.
"Even though it has vista, my upgrade to 7 is on it's way. Don't know why others complain of this unit crashing, no such trouble here. I am a heavy user. There is no visible hard drive sync light in the front. Noticed by accident that it is located in back.So if you like to keep an eye on hard drive activity, you have to set this up on your desktop. Other than that I am very happy."

What's great about it: Look around and try to find a better deal. I looked for a week and didn't find any thing close for the money.
What's not so great: CPU is rite in the way of the drive expantions slots. This is rooky acr mistake.
"Look at the specs. This is a great deal for the price and amount of system your getting. I burnt up the CPU and Mother board on my old system and had the old type of video socket. Was gonna be over 500 just to rebuild and them I'd still have an old power suply and drives. This machine has SATA so my old drive went in as a slave. The new system is blazing fast and all my software runs better with 2 more gigs of RAM.
I am a very happy customer.
Thank you BestBuy.com"

What's great about it: powerful. fast and very quiet
What's not so great: not a gaming computer
"The computer proformes 10 times better then my old E machine could ever wish to .Proformes all tasks quickly with no problems and vista is great I don't understand why people complain about it. My only complaint is that the Phenom x4 processor is not as fast as the duel cores that are out now and I am limited on the video cards that I can buy for it, I do like to play games. I'm sure that what ever video card that I get for it will improve the overall proformance many times over what I had.Delivery was quick with no problems, setup was easy and the computer runs great. Overall I'm glad I purchest this with Best Buy great price great computer."

What's not so great: speakers that come with it are very small and cheap
"This computer was alot of machine for the money. It looks great and the keyboard and mouse that came with it are very nice. I had a very easy time setting it up and the computer is quick and has given me no problems at all. The fans are some of the quietest I have seen on a computer. What's great about it: 64 bit version of vista with a Quad Core!
What's not so great: Poor Video Card if you want serious gaming!
"Great machine with some great components such as the Quad Core with the 64 bit version of windows Vista. 4 gigs of ram expandable to 8, and a nice graphics card that allows you to enjoy games such as Battlefield 2 or 2142 that are not as graphic intensive as Crisis. Great Rendering Machine."

What's great about it: Great Value for the price
What's not so great: No CPU light
"I like the simplicity of this PC. I paid over twice as much for another brand, of comparable configuration, two years ago. The Gateway is much better and faster with twice the memory (4GB). The only thing that it needs is a PS2 mouse (no need to burn a valuable USB port for the mouse). I'm using the PS2 mouse from my junked PC. I also added the WinTV card from the old PC and now have a complete desktop media center. Now I just need to upgrade to 7. Thanks to Gateway for hanging around."

What's great about it: Fast Computer. Great Price. Gbic NIC
What's not so great: Nothing
"I am a computer technician by trade. I came across this PC and was shocked at the price. While this is not the "best" quad core processor, it is a decent processor, great amount of ram, great hard drive space. HDMI output is great, multiple fire wire ports and usb ports. HD Audio out put. Pretty much this is a good deal. I cannot build this PC for the $409 cost. I have never saw winblows Vista load so quickly on a machine as it did on this one. My installs were lightening fast (would be faster with a solid state drive) I would recommend this to any one who wants a nice PC for a great price. I would highly recommend it"

Very Dissatisfied

What's great about it: It's quiet, and looks nice
What's not so great: Locks up, network connection continually stops working (the rest of my computers run fine), applications lock up
"I thought reading some of the reviews on this that it might be a good deal, and be a reliable computer. Well I was wrong. I must say this has been the most annoying computer I have ever had. I am not sure if it is Vista (it probably is) or something else. I have been messing with this for 2 days and nothing helps (Gateway support is a JOKE). I can be online and then all of the sudden the network connection freezes or drops completely. Firefox/IE freeze up, and I can't quit them from the task manager. When this happens the computer will not do a restart. The only way to restart it is to shut it down by the power button.
Needless to say this is going back today, and I am spending a little extra and buy a Mac."

Nice PC but we've had a serious problem

What's great about it: 64-bit, decent amount of ram, big hdd, quad-core speed, card reader
What's not so great: cheap hardware, flimsy case, vista, terrible phone support
"Well, we bought this PC for our business. The PC was great to start out with but after using it for three weeks the computer would not load past the initial "gateway/bios" screen. Turns out the hard drive had failed. Since it was under warranty we weren't out anything other than shipping supplies but it did take a week and a half to get back. Now it's running fine but I am very worried about the longevity and sturdiness of this hardware.
I will also say that while I am fairly happy with the repairs coming back in less that two weeks, the phone support was absolutely terrible. It took a long time to get through and once I did the person I spoke with clearly had no clue. I'm no computer whiz but I'm not an idiot either. A call that should have taken no more than 10 minutes took nearly an hour.
As long as this PC keeps running I will be satisfied with it but if I could go back in time I would not buy it or another Gateway again."

Don't call Gateway tech support! Call Geek Squad!
08/12/2009

What's great about it: okay when it worked
What's not so great: CD/DVD drive wouldn't work
"My stepfather bought this months ago as an eventual replacement for an XP computer. However, I have just set it up recently in preparation for transfer of information from the old computer to the new computer. I installed a Dynex internal floppy disk drive and that was listed in the available drives. However, when I looked up Windows easy transfer on the new computer and looked at the list of options of copying Windows easy transfer from the new to the old computer, it wouldn't let me select on the "copy to CD" option. A few days later I found out why I couldn't select on the CD option. The CD/DVD drive wouldn't come up in the list of available drives. I called Gateway for tech support and they walked me through checking of the registry and then the told me to do a system restore. This made things worse. When I turned the computer on, I kept getting an error message that Windows could not be installed. The computer would then try to reboot and then would come back to the same error message. I could only stop the cycle by unplugging it. The Gateway tech support people kept recommending getting a set of Windows Vista backup disks but I kept trying to tell them that those wouldn't do any good without a working CD drive to play them on. Best Buy's Geek Squad seemed to understand right away that the CD/DVD drive was defective. Gateway was going under the assumption that the drive was functional but that the system wasn't detecting it. Moral of the story.: Don't call Gateway for tech support. Call Geek Squad instead. The Gateway computer is still under warranty and so we will be taking it back to Best Buy for service. I will post another review with the results of that later."
