"Please read this! I am a huge fan of hp products, i had the previous version of this laptop and i decided to upgrade it. i brought this about a month ago and this is what a can tell: performance GOOD, display GOOD, battery GOOD, software GOOD (people call it the iphone of computers) everything soung good doesn't it? but let me tell you something you must know this computer and i can tell most of them make a very strange noise in the back part next to the battery where the two usb ports are located is a noise kind of ... like a bee inside, i had to return one computer and got another but the noise was in both of them so i thinks is from factory, but i like the laptop so much that i decide to keep it. also the fan makes a really anoying noise you can not hear ot when you are at the store because the is so much noise in there already but when you take it home and begin to work on it you will be surprised how noisy it is.... JUST CHECK THOSE TWO THINGS AND IF YOU STILL WNAT TO BUY IT AFTER THAT GET IT... IS AN AWESOME COMPUTER...... I LIKE IT THAT WHY I KEEP IT.."

What's great about it: It has so many cool features to work with
What's not so great: The cool features do not work, the fan runs constantly and the keyboard shut down and the fingerprint did not work...

"I was SO excited to get this computer, considering I have the HP 25" Touchsmart Computer and absolutely love it! No problems at all. I love this machine and thought I would get the same results.

WRONG!

First, the fan never shuts off, which conflicts with onlline listening music, then the computer gets too hot, the fingerprint device never worked once, the notepad would not save my handwriting correctly and finally the keyboard shut down. I was furious because of the greatness of the TouchSmart 25". Obviously, HP needs to rework this laptop computer. I would love to try another one, but am afraid of repeating the same problems."

What's great about it: built-in DVD

"Bought this tablet because of built-in DVD. I use it to review patient MRI's, CT scans with patients in the exam rooms and need small form factor. My Lenovo X-61 is a great tablet but needs an add-on ultrabase for DVD which makes it heavy and thick.

This tablet requires alot of updating with HP and Microsoft initially. Also should add on better disk defragmener and registry cleaners to optimize performance. I needed to connect directly to my router by wired-connection to download everything. Once the broadband wireless card drivers were updated, then wireless worked fine. Plan on working with this machine to optimize it. No problems with the keyboard. The display has a fine sparkle to it which is probably designed to minimize finger-smudging when used as multi-touch. This does not degrade video appearance. Overall alot of machine for the money. (The lenovo was $2K)"

What's not so great: Non-backlit keyboard and screen!

"Once again HP has created a cool little device and gone a step further. Though slowed down with all the initial software glitches this device once completely updated is fantastic. I use it to control my home network, my wife uses it to shop online and my two little girls use it as a drawing and learning tool. I don't know how, but I didn't even know HP had actually added some touchsmart technology until I opened my computer. BestBuy and HP have joined in offering the most bang for the buck. My only suggestion would be for BestBuy to update the computer for the customers while at the store to avoid situations of confusion where a 30 second update to the BIOS would avoid calls, returns and frustrations. Keep reviewing and offer the update suggestion to your local BestBuys!"

"I bought this computer after playing around with the one on display and falling in love with the computer. Therefore, I was extremely disappointed when less then 24 hours later the keyboard stopped working. I spent 4 hours on the phone with HP trying to fix the problem and was told that the laptop was defective and I needed to send it in. Since I am an online student I could not wait 2 weeks for HP to send me a new one so I went back to Best Buy and they exchanged the laptop for me and gave me a new one.

I assumed that my issues were over and went home to set up my second HP TouchSmart in 24 hours. I took the laptop out of the box and turned it on and was extremely upset to see that the screen was defective!!! Since this was Saturday evening and the best buys by me are not open on Sundays I had to drive over an hour to exchange this laptop again on Sunday so that I would not miss handing in an assignment for my online class.

I received my third HP TouchSmart and went home to set it up, this laptop seemed to work perfectly and I was very relieved. Then, 4 days later, the keyboard on this laptop stopped working!!! Once again I called HP and was on the phone with them for 6 hours this time and wasn't able to fix it. I went back to best buy and returned the laptop, I refused to try a fourth one!!

I was buying this laptop because my gateway had broken after only 7 months and decided I was fed up with PC's. I bought a MacBook from Best Buy and its been a month now and I have had no issues. Also, the MacBook is 10 times faster than any PC I've ever had. I still have Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint which are required for my school and a warranty with both Best Buy and Apple. I am very happy with my Mac and after the nightmare I went through with the TouchSmart I wound not recommend it to anyone, I would recommend staying far away from this laptop!!!"

What's great about it: Touch screen, decent processing power, lots of features (usb,camera,fingerprint)

(Disclaimer – wanted to use this laptop for photo editing. This may be a perfectly acceptable general use laptop.)

This is a feature rich tablet PC. Touch, camera, fingerprint…unfortunately this laptop falls very short in the screen department.

Issue 1: The screen is very grainy, almost has a ‘crystal’ quality to it. Didn’t notice in the store, but as soon as I opened a ‘dark’ photo noticed right away. Not quite a deal breaker, but definitely a distraction.

Issue 2: This was a deal breaker. When viewing the screen, moving it or your head slightly (like you would if placed in your lap, or moving your head slightly) completely changes the image being viewed – Blacks become grey, blue sky becomes grey or off colored.

Overall, was really hoping that this could be a good alternative to a Wacom tablet, but just didn’t cut it. If the screen viewing range was better would have kept it."

"I bought one of these laptops a month ago and after using it for three days the keyboard stopped responding! I lost an entire day at best buy so they could exchange it for me! It turned out that they did not have any more of that computer in this store so I had to go from Atlanta all the way to Snellville for another one! This time it took about four days and the same thing happened the keyboard stopped responding so I returned it! It looks great, it feels great using it as touch screen but it is new technology too many things are going on with that computer it works slow, the sound s very bad, and it overheats very fast even on a flat table surface. I thank Best Buy though for being so understanding and helping me first to exchange and later on to return it! GREAT SURVICE!!!!!"

I got this machine 4/5 days ago, really looks like a baby in hands. Small size, nice looks, camera and at the top of it I can operate it with my fingers.

Initially I faced a strange problem, my keyboard and Touch used to freeze randomly, but googling for 2 minutes I found the solution. Solution to the problem is real simple. Just go to the link:

What's not so great: the screen has a glossy weird pixel resolution....i didn't like, my internet was soooooooooo slow...freezes a lot errr..

"too small, touch screen is cool and what got me excited about the product but i didn't use it much...its just one of those things you can have but dont use or need it....i have one other laptop that was full of virus and only have the screen was working and that laptop was faster than this one...the pin was a nice touch but it made me feel like i was challenged...lol...i think it might be more useful for business use.......thats just my oppion...."

What's not so great: If the computer not working, good luck dealing with HP

"I don't know how HP win the Customer Service award.

I sent in my laptop to get fix, they return it back in a week, and said every was taken care of. The laptop is very slow, and have to wait 1-2 second after very click. I contacted HP, and they told me tons of things to try, on my laptop, after a week of trying, they finally told me so ship in the 2nd time, and tell me to get everything fixed soon because I expressed my need for the laptop. Every time I checked with them, the support team basically tell me to shut up and wait. On the delivery date, I checked with them again and they told me the laptop is with Fedex, not with them anymore. But right when I asked them for the tracking number, they told me it will be delivery soon. I first time I sent it in since 2/14, and still haven't got thing fixed until today 3/11. All I get is "soon"

So if you guys happened to buy an HP. Good luck."

"I've used this thing since january and it rocks, first i,ll start with the unique function of this laptop: the tablet function, its really nice and is great for chatting because you can draw some stuff while you chat with your friends, you can also flip the screen and control the pc just by touching the screen... its great for watching movies in the bed.

The performance of the laptop is fine.... I'ts enoguh for what most users need, and it can even handle some gaming (but not the latest games).

Size and weight are great... its light enough to take it everywhere and big enough to have a big keyboard that allows you to write long documents without any difficulty; the only downsized keyboards are the small arrows at the right bottom, but thats not a big deal (those arrows are almost of the same size as the HP mini arrows). Battery life is about 2-2.5 hours with all the stuff turned on

Tho only problem that I had with this laptop was due to a "bug" caused by an HP image sofware that came with an HP printer..... the solution was to uninstall that image software and problem fixed... If you guys are wondering, that image program is useless and you can still print without it being installed on your pc."

"This was purchased for me as a graduation gift ... it is the best gift i have ever received! I have never had a tablet PC and have been using a desktop mac for the past eight months, but this is the easiest setup for a computer I have ever gone through. The finger print reader is really amazing. It does take a little getting used to, but once you get the movement down you can use it for everything! The fan noise is a little annoying, but I think that once I invest in a cool pad the fan noise will be minimized. The touchscreen is a little finicky, but using the stylus while in tablet works just as well. And the tiny remote is ridiculously adorable! Overall, this is the best computer for the price. If it hadn't been a gift, I would've bought it myself!"

What's great about it: Touchscreen makes an easy navigation tool.
What's not so great: 64 bit format still a bit cutting edge for some hardware, software, applications, ect.

"One week into my second purchase of a TX2, (more on that later), & I'm still totally jazzed with this little notebook. It's like a Swiss Army Knife with a flat-screen & DVD burner. By far, it's a lot of bang for your buck! Very cutting edge,with a great touchscreen format, offered in a first consumer-level notebook, & serves as the vangard of technolgy to come.

BTW, this review has been written with the included stylus pen, written directly on the screen in tablet mode.

Along with the TX2's features, I'm impressed with HP's service too, here's why.

As I stated earlier, this is my 2nd. TX2 bought from Best Buy. The first one had what engineers call "Infant Mortality Syndrom", meaning that the probabily of failure uccurs when anything is first put to use, & in this case had suffered a corrupted bios. It happens, & as I see it in no way reflects in the quality of HP products...this is a complex piece of electronics & again, it just sometimes happen.

My hats off to the HP touchsmart support team who spent at least 8 hours over the phone with me, had FedEx'ed me a set of restore disks for free, & completely walked me through the process of removing & reinstalling hardware like the Harddrive, Memory cards, the Wifi card, & DVD/CD Burner, as well as trying different setup's & diagnostic...all to no avail.

As an aside, I'm also very impressed with how easy it is to access all the periphials, it'll be a snap to upgrade hardware if needed.

It was finally determined that the notebook would need to be shipped back to the factory or returned to Best Buy for a product refund. I chose the latter since it was only a week since I had purchased it. My grateful thanks for the kind service from the folks at the Myrtle Beach SC store too, who helped me trackdown another TX2 at another store, and arrange a inventory transfer so I could buy it right here at home.

Right now TX2's are scarce in the stores, a perfect indicator of it's value and no doubt proof that HP's TouchSmart technology is a hit. Be patient, keep checking your local store, they will soon have more in stock."

"This is a wonderfully designed product. Being in the technical industry i can understand how complex it is to get something like this out. my issue is with the 64 bit os which i think creates a freezing issue especially with MS office & IE. But you need the 64 bit to utilize the 4 GB ram. So its a trade off ....

Anyways, one would not be disappointed with this laptop, the value for the $$ is really great on this one. Touch is pretty ok and not so great.

Battery, i had to configure to make it work the way i wanted. If you are in market looking for a laptop definitely consider this as with vista ultimate and win7 going more touchscreen based."

"I Loved this computer. It is really cute and has a touchscreen always a pluse. I was so excited when I found a store that had it available.

I had my computer for 2 weeks!!!!!!!!
and the keyboared died. that should not happen. geek squad was unable to fix it. they tried there hardest and i do not blame them, thank you geek squad. bestbuy had no more available in any of the stores and dont know when they will be getting more in. this is also a computer you can not have shiped from the website.

I am very disappointed. I would have bought it again."

What's not so great: No integration of pressure sensitivity with Adobe software

"I bought this tablet in hopes of having a digital sketchbook and a portable animation station. What I got was an ordinary laptop with some lackluster touch screen features. Anyone who uses a computer to draw knows how important pressure sensitivity is. Unfortunately, N-Trig, the designers of this touchscreen technology have not designed their drivers to work with Adobe software like Photoshop, Illustrator, or even Flash. For that matter, even the Painter 4 Essentials program, which comes bundled with the computer, does not read any sort of pressure sensitivity from the stylus.

After scanning through various forums, I found that N-Trig seems to have no desire to correct this lack of feature. They will tell you that a few, more obscure programs do display pen pressure sensitivity. What they won't tell you is that the line quality is still very poor.

Overall, if you are set on buying a tablet PC for drawing, make sure to buy one which is Wacom Penabled. As for me, I'm going to stick with drawing on a Wacom tablet tethered to my desktop. Portability will have to wait.
I haven't given up on my Moleskine sketchbooks just yet anyway."

What's great about it: Everything!! This computer rocks, it is fast and convienent. Excellent capabilities.
What's not so great: It has a defect that causes the keyboard to quit working at random times you have to do a hard reset.

"I fell in love with this laptop from the moment I first saw it. It was my idea of the picture perfect laptop. I had all the grand ideas of how convienent it would be for school. But unfortunately only one day after having I discovered a decfect in the computer. The keyboard will randomly stop working. I aquired help to fix the problem and then it happened again the next day. I did research and found that the hp forum for this laptop was full of everyone having the exact same problem. Some it took a month or so before it happened but to no avail did the problem go away once it began. I was thoroughly disappointed and heart broken because it seemed to be so perfect and amazing. I realized quickly that if the keyboard where to stop working in the middle of class what would I do if I couldn't get it to work again? I loved the laptop but for the money I spent I was not prepared to have to deal with a constant problem and no guarentee of a sure resolution. I returned the lap to the store 2 days after buying and was told by geek squard they had been having the same problems with it."

"This is my second laptop and i hope it lasts for the rest of my life!!!! THIS IS THE COOLEST PIECE OF TECHNOLOGY EVER!!!!!! My previous laptop was also an hp and it was pretty good. the only thing i dont like about hp is that they put all that useless junk on their computers. I totally recomend this laptop!!!!"
