What's great about it: Works great, looks good, prints good, scans good, great price. What's not so great: Driver/utilities Install on Vista 64 laptop was a little bumpy, but easy to fix.
"I've had this printer about a month now, after having returned a Kodak ESP-7 that was DOA (but that's another review). Scan quality is very good - even can send the scanned images directly from the printer to any pc's with drivers installed on my home network. I love the look of this printer. Well packed, good instructions. I use mine wireless, and the only problem I had was that there was a problem detecting the wireless printer on my Vista 64-bit laptop. I Googled up the exact error text, found a workaround, and it worked (5 extra minutes). I bet if you download the current drivers instead of using the CD, that error won't occur. Has a handy feature: will print a few pages with no PC connection, like graph paper, todo list, etc. I thought that was cool since I occasionally need a sheet of graph paper for home project planning. It doesn't do two-sided printing which I very rarely need - and can do manually - so didn't need to pay for that capability. With the money I saved between this and the returned Kodak, I bought an extra set of ink cartridges and got some cash back. Yeah, I'll pay more for ink cartridges now, but I won't be having the heartaches the reviewers over in Kodak are having. All in all, it's nice and couldn't possibly be a mistake to buy it. I'm happy so far."

"I'm currently a junior in college and my old printer bit the dust a few weeks ago, and I replaced it with this one. I'm very pleased with it so far. The size makes it convenient to put almost anywhere, and being able to close the front try while it's not in use is a definite plus. I was impressed with the speed, as my family also owns a Canon Pixma iP6000d and it's probably one of the slowest printers we've used. Not the case with this one--I'm very happy with the printing speed. The quality for photo prints is not top-notch, but if you're not looking for professional-quality photos and just want something to put around your room/house, this absolutely gets the job done. Highly recommended, especially if you're looking for a printer for your college dorm room or just a nice, simple printer for your home."

"This printer was easy set up, directions are bulky for the different options, but just read ahead to make sure you are on the right path. Wireless ease, scan straight to network computer, easy copy function prints for you. This is an all around great printer for me. It also has a bottom front load paper drawer, I almost did not buy because others said back load for paper (which is an option)."

What's great about it: The price is amazing for the quality of the printer. What's not so great: Some of the parts are a little "flimsy".
"I bought this printer just a few days ago, and right out of the box I could tell it was a solid printer. The flip screen is a tasteful add on to an already worth-it-machine. The wireless capability can be a little tricky, mainly because its meticulous. It took me a while to get it up and running, and i'm not a "dummy" with computers. The instructions that come with the Canon are very vague and have to be read a few times before they are fully comprehended. HINT : You have to read the instructions... The installation of the print head, and ink are a little confusing. Overall I would say that I am very satisfied. I would say that the "cons" of this printer would be that the wireless capability is a little difficult, and that the "hidden" paper tray seems like it doesn't go with the printer at all. Other than that, its a definite buy."

"This was so easy to set up, I bought the printer with a laptop deal. I really enjoy the wireless printing and it only took about 15 mins. to set up and I was printing from the other side of the house. The printer is fast enough for our taste, not too slow. A lot of nice features and easy to use with our laptop. We haven't bought ink yet but looking around they seem to be a bit higher than we hope for."

"After reading some of the other reviews I was expecting a little trouble when setting up the wireless feature. Normally, on items such as these (wireless peripherals) you get to setting it up and then you end up having to call tech support and it takes hours. To my surprise, It was as simple as taking it out of the box, plugging it in and following the instructions. Within 30 minutes it was up and running. I am impressed!!!"

"I bought an Epson for about $20 less than this and took it back the same day. I got this one and it was a WORLD of difference for only a little more money. It's well built, it has wireless capability, it has a bottom loader tray (that's a little tricky to get back in once it's out), and the print is excellent for the price (though not as deep blacks I was hoping for, but I can mess with the settings).
Installation was odd. I'm not sure how much better they could have made it, so it takes some time, and I'm no Newbie to computers. I set up wireless for a Mac (Snow Leopard) and a PC (XP), and though the software doesn't work great on the Mac without some tweaks, it's still much better than the Epson and HP that I've used with them both. Best bang for hte buck by far!!!"

"I love, love love this printer! Why? Because I'm not good with the computer and this makes it so darn easy I feel like a genius. I have been buying printers for pc's for almost 20 years now, this is by far the best, does the most and, adjusted for inflation is by far the least expensive. I have bought el cheapo 50$ printers, all in one printer, wireless printer, scanner, photo printer with card reader and ability to print photos without the computer and none of them worked well. I couldn't find or send my photos to them, if I could they didn't print properly, couldn't edit properly, wouldnt set up wirelessly, you name it was my problem. no more! This little 80$ gem does everything I want the first time.
And, lets talk about the folks at Cannon. wow, talk about A++++ Tech support! I got a guy on the phone, get this, about 4 days after Christmas, he stayed on the phone with me for about 90 minutes setting this thing up flawlessly. He even waited while i went down the hall, up the elevator to our apartment storage locker to look for a longer ubs cord which i couldn't find and didn't even need. He was so patient, not condescending, had a sense of humor and spoke audibly, all the things you normally dont find in a tech support person. He got this thing to connect wirelessly to two computers in two different rooms. Yes, I know that's what it's supposed to do, but if you're like me and are not good with computers and don't want to pay the geek squad 150$ to come and install it, then the canon tech support is a great thing.
with this printer i can easily scan all my old precious photos and they are send to a clearly labeled file folder in my pictures section and I can easily find them, edit etc, I was able to do this without reading rhe manual. I have to read a manual to tie my shoes, folks. when you put the photos on the glass, dont line the two sides up against the edges or it will chop a bit off. I figured that out myself, then later read it in the manual. you can also reprint a photo to another size without even sending it to your computer. you can make copies of anything as if you were at kinkos, this thing does everything. they have amore expensive model of this printer that includes a fax we opted not to get that due to A) we dont usually need to fax anything B) I think, but not sure, you need a land line phone for that which we dont have.
there are two different paper slots on this thing which is brilliant. one for regular paper for printing documents, the other for any sized photo paper, card stock, stickers etc. the thing thats great is it asks you what type of paper your using, like plain paper or photo paper, and then it knows where to get the paper from. it prints the photos spot on on the photo paper. Other printers if you didn't load the paper correctly, you would have part of the photo missing and part of the photo paper would be blank, a huge waste of ink and expensive glossy paper. This machine does not do that. I just can't say enuogh about this printer. I wish I was more articulate and could explain more technically what I mean. This is truly the photo printer for dummies, no offense, because I'm one of them. All I've ever wanted is a machine that scans and copies documents and photos to my computer, and wait for it, then I can actually FIND them on my computer and edit them and actually print them out flawlessly. This is it. I have been printing photos like a crazy person and I still have lots of ink left. Plus, the ink cartridges are seperate, so you replace only the individual color that runs low. I can see already the red and one other color are draining far faster than the other 3 with all the photos i'm printing, so I will be able to maximize ink better with this system. All the photos I have printed so far would have already cost me much more than the cost of the printer, the paper and electricity, if I had used the photo maker at wall mart. and I still have lots of ink and paper left! Did I say I love this thing?? I think I love Cannon now to and will definately get a cannon digital camera when we replace our sony cybershot because of cannons tech support and ease of use. way to go cannon!!!! If you have ever struggled with a printer before, been frustrated, buy this printer for a measley $80 it is so worth it!!!!

"bought this computer and was easy set up right out of the box. Instructions are easy to follow. It IS compatiable with Windows 7, you just have to goto the Canon website and download the drivers. I had a problem setting up the wireless part of it but i called Canon and the tech guy helped me out in 15 minutes had it up and running. Tech guy was great, even helped me fix my in home wireless network. I would definately recommend this printer, and i bought it on sale for 79.99."

"I bought this printer for the price and wireless capabilties for my girl friends house she has two young children one in high school one in middle school. Set it up in a spare bedroom wirelessly so now both the kids can print from there bedrooms with no problems. Easy setup great printer. I own the Canon Pixma 860 which it is a awesome printer with wireless capablities also. For the price this is a great printer."
