What's great about it: Easy Install, Price for size

Like many others, I bought this Scorpio Blue HDD for my PS3, as it was among the cheapest options for 500GB. It worked well for somewhere around a year, and then I turned my PS3 on one day and it had a corrupted file system, requiring a reformat. All data, lost. I could write this off as a one-time, freak occurrence, yet a friend of mine bought the same model of HDD for his PS3 some months after me, and his experienced the same thing, even sooner. Same drive, same purpose, same result. Beware.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

After the first one I bought had error messages and was freezing up, I decided to exchange it because my stock hard drive was the same drive and it was so quiet and cool. I was completely content. Figured it was just a bad one. Well the one I have now is speedy like my stock but makes continual scratchy noises and keep my fan on most of the time...I think it runs warmer too. It's driving me mad. I'm very sensitive to noise. My stock drive was perfect couldn't hear it at all....I thought all the drives would be the same. I also have a second laptop with a stock WD 320G hard drive and it is dead silent. I'm not going to be able to keep this drive. I'm thinking I will give it one more chance. Hopefully, the 3rd will be the charm. It's very disappointing. SSD is still too expensive. Don't get this drive if you are sensitive to noise. I've tried everything to make it quiet but nothing works.

What's great about it: Price is lower than Neweggs, Quick turnaround on when I could pick it up @ the store.
I was looking to upgrade my PS3's hard drive to a larger capacity (I have one of the new Slims) from the 120 Gig drive it originally came with. It took a bit to get everything sorted, but what a difference the extra space has made. Now what they don't tell you on these "How-To" sites, is that if you are transferring the data (Games, Saves, Etc.) over to the new drive, you'll need to back all that up onto a separate drive -OTHER THAN- the one you're putting in, as the system will format the new drive automatically. Then it's a simple matter of installing the new software update, and you're ready to re-install all your data onto the machine. It's so easy a toddler could handle the process. And when you're done, you can slide the old drive into an enclosure and viola! A brand new external drive for your other computing needs.

I bought this HDD for my Playstation 3 because it's original memory was maxed out, and this was a WAY cheaper alternative then buying a new console. Now I have next to uinlimited memory with 500gigs for a third of the price of a new PS3. The install was a breeze but formatting it through the Playstation web-site took a few tries. Obviously that's not the HDD's fault. All of my information was backed up online so all I had to do was retrieve it from the network and I was back to gaming within an hour..(You could also back up your info on a memory stick and do it that way) Excellent hard drive!

What's great about it: Easy to install even for the layman
Replaced a failed Hard Drive on my Dell Laptop Computer. Easy to install and works flawlessly. Replacing the Hard Drive took less than 5-minutes. The bigger issue was re-installing the operating system and recovering the files off the old Hard Drive. Still easy to do, but took several days because of all the Windows Updates, re-installing Anti-Virus, etc.

What's not so great: It's only 5400 RPM...if you want faster, get 7200 or SSD
This hard drive replaced my failing one. So far, it has performed flawlessly. There's really not much to say about hard drives...either they work or they don't or, most often, they fail over time. KEEP GOOD BACKUPS!

Got this hard drive to replace my original hard drive which had failed. Had the computer guy at my work install it and load in Windows and anti-virus, etc. Everything works, but the speed isn't nearly what the machine used to be and this was the only item that needed replacing. Please shop around and ask about performance characteristics before "settling" on this item. I only got it because it was the last compatible hard drive in the store that was 320GB or larger. Kinda wish I had waited and/or ordered a different drive.

I have bought quite a few drives form Western Digital before i had tried this one for an PS3 upgrade. I started hearing loud clicking and i know this not normal for a HDD so i returned the first one and exchanged it for the same product. This HDD did the same exact thing as the last one did. and i know it is not something with my PS3 cause the HDD i had in the PS3 system before these never made a noise at all unless it was loading data and then that was normal. I never buy another western digital dirve again after this their qualityhas dropped quite a bit.

Originally went into Best Buy to take adavantage of a sale on another similar drive only to find out they were sold out (surprise). Needed one in a hurry so ended up with the 500 Gb model. A little more than I wanted to spend but it has served the purpose well thus far. I tend to look at hard drive value in terms of years vice months so much to early to really give a solid recommendation.
