What's great about it: It works when you use it correctly
What's not so great: noise......but its still not that bad.
I have had this unit for over a year and a half. The first year i didn't use it much because I lived near the beach.
This year I moved into the San Gabriel Valley and it is way hotter in the summer. I have used it every day and sometimes it stays on for over 24 hrs. As long as you don't put it in to big of a room, or turn it on when the room is already super hot then it works just fine.
The key is when you know it will be hot, turn it on before it gets hot in the room the unit is in....then it will maintain a low temperature instead of trying to lower an already high temperature.
My biggest complaint is how noisy the compressor is when it starts and stops. Sometimes it sounds like A/C unit is gonna break in half.
And buying the 4 year in home service warranty makes me feel even better.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Nothing!!!!
What's not so great: Everything!!!
It is a waste of money and electricity. The manufacture showed no compassion when I telephoned regarding my dissatisfaction with their product. We purchased for our bedroom, it has to run over night w/ceiling fan in order to feel relief from the heat. We never even used a blanket. The lowest temp. reached was 79F. If it's in the 90's outside, you want it to be at least 70F inside. Prior to the purchase of the Danby DPAC7099 our 5,000 BTU window unit worked10X better and it's a couple of years old. It has been extremely hottttt this summer, too hot for a $300. +tax A.C. not to cool to satisfaction :-(

What's great about it: easy to assemble
What's not so great: poor production of an air unit
I just got this unit, and I put it together. I bought this for my aunt, I am in in Texas, it is August and according to the news it is no hotter than 99f,(yeah right!!) well first things first, I plugged up the unit tested it as per the instructions, no green light, but I had power, so I ran it up, the room was at 95f dropped down to 90f,for 7000 BTUs the room temperature should of dropped to at least to 78f within 25 minuets, but this did not happen, the the temp reading dropped no further. it blew cool air, for 410 it did its' job,the hose released a good deal of condensation, the unit was very quiet. I shut down the unit, pulled the power cord match up the specifications with my widow up, voltage is fine, amps are good, so I checked the cooling coils ,by pulling the panels, WOW!,I checked the vents, and noticed the metering device is covered in plastic, the fins were bent, and came to a conclusion that the thermostat device is bad,I m taking this back for a full refund. It can work, it can cool, but if the production is not correct from the factory for the consumer, it is not gonna work correctly, The unit has no SEER rating ,no schematics, no pan , and does not come with a drainage container for the the AC mode condensation, I used a clean 5 gallon automotive oil collection pan to catch the condensation coming out of the hose.I had a half gallon in 27 minuets. This is going back TODAY!!

What's great about it: Its on wheels and looks nice.
What's not so great: Doesnt COOL!
I dont understand how some are giving good reviews for this unit! maybe some work and others dont. I bought the unit for a room 140sq ft, its 95 degrees outside the unit only brought it to 86. So i thought try a smaller room 100 sq ft, i run it over night it cooled that room to 84, well the temp was 77 outside. I have followed every direction, checked windows and doors, didnt help. I am aware that they dont work as well as a window unit, but this is crazy!!!! Instilation was not difficult. Over all it appears to be a good unit, it just doesnt have the ability to cool which is why most people buy them. So it will be going back to store asap and I will go with another brand.

What's great about it: Easy setup
What's not so great: Noisier then a wall unit, doesn't cool as well
As many reviewers noted, a portable unit does not provide the same cooling power as a window unit. This was one of the less noisy ones I've tried, but you may have trouble sleeping with it one on.

What's great about it: cools the room great.
What's not so great: its very heavy.
recently, my landlord informed me that I could no longer have an a/c in my bedroom window, because of fire codes. this left me in a bad situation because i have a sleeping disorder and its almost impossible for me to sleep without a/c.
i started looking for a portable a/c. the first thing i noticed in all the reviews i read was the portable a/cs do not work as well a window a/c. but i decided to try it anyway because i really had no choice.
i am very happy to report that this portable a/c works great. i am very happy that i can once again sleep. the only thing i want to mention is that portable a/cs need a window for the exhaust hose. no big deal for me because it installs and is removed very easily. also this unit needs to be drained when it fills up with water. also very easy to do.
if u r interested in a portable a/c i highly recommed this one.

What's great about it: Easy to install had to make som mod's to the window plate to make it fit but not much Also had to drill a hole for drain
What's not so great: does not blow with alot of force. had to use a fan ho help move the air, blue led is bright but no problems sleeping at
I got a great deal on this item, it was listed at $299.00 and was on sale for $199.00, it does not blow with a lot of force however with the assistance of ceiling fan and an isolating fan I’m my bedroom it tends for make it rather cold in the room. I also had to drill a hole in the window plate so that I could hook up the perm ante drain line. I would recommend this ac unit to anyone looking for a small AC unit for a single room. And if you can catch it on clearance for $199.99 you can’t go wrong.

What's not so great: Does not cool room, air vent did not fit in window
Installation was a mess. The window piece was too big so it had to be installed with duct tape.I read the manual over and over to make sure I was setting the temp.correctly because my room was never cool. After running for several hours the temp never went below 79.Had to use a fan with the ac just to feel a bit cool. Finally gave in and exchanged for a wall air conditioner.

What's great about it: Price, size
What's not so great: minimim window width not indicated on website specs or on the box
I purchased this AC at Best Buy on sale for $269 and also purchased the extended warranty. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment and my previous window unit worked well enough to cool just the bedroom, but would freeze up with continuous use when trying to cool the whole apartment. I figured with a portable unit I could just wheel it into the bedroom at night, and wheel it out to the main living area when it was needed there.
My only complaint about set up is that there was no indication on the Best Buy site or on the unit's box when I looked at the store that the ventilation kit was for windows a minimum width of 28 inches. Unfortunately, my windows are 27 inches wide and didn't realize that the ventilation panel wouldn't fit until a very warm evening when I finally decided it was time to install the AC. I was going to give up and try to install my old window unit but the next day I decided to just go to the local hardware store and purchase a $7.00 hacksaw and cut the ventilation panel myself. The panel is only made of PVC so it cut quite easily. After that, the set up probably took 10 minutes tops.
This unit cools my 11x15 bedroom pretty well and I would say it is no louder than my window unit was. I use the unit mostly at night since I work during the day, but on the weekends I have just placed a fan in the doorway of my bedroom to blow the cool air out into the living room and it works fine. I haven't needed to move the unit itself out to the living room to cool that space.
I would agree with other reviews that the LCD is very bright when trying to sleep. But I've learned to live with it. I guess I could cover it up with something if it really bothered me.
Also, I've been using the unit for about 3 weeks now and it has not indicated that the water needs to be emptied yet! Is this normal? Like I said, I use the unit only at night most of the time, but I expected to have to empty it more often. I guess it might depend on the humidity in the air and it has not gotten that humid yet this summer.
Overall I am satisfied with this AC unit.

What's great about it: Easy Installation, small size, can plug into a standard 15 amp outlet
What's not so great: LCD screen stays lit constantly, even at night
Got this unit about a week ago, my co-op does not allow Window AC units without a special panel in your window. I did not want to go through the hassle and cost of installation so I just bought this for my bedroom (already had a unit that came with my apartment in the living room). So far it has worked well, it is easy to set up and it cools my average size bedroom. My only gripe so far is the blue LCD display that stays lit up when the unit is on. At night time I can see it being a pain for some people. It really hasn't bothered me much yet but we shall see. For a portable unit it is well priced, but I wish someone would make one cheaper, or at least BB could have a shipping promo. Tax and shipping brought the total to about 360 bucks (the sucker is heavy, but thankfully has wheels out of the box!). You can get a comparable window AC unit for almost nothing nowadays.

I was able to set the unit up quickly.

So far it has been quite effective in cooling my studio apartment.
And the price is definitely right.

What's great about it: Nothing!
What's not so great: Everything!
I purchased this unit a few weeks ago. Installation was easy and took only about 20 minutes. Then you turn it on! The unit is rather noisey and the bright blue digital display on the front of the unit is enough to keep you up all night, it is blindingly bright. I read the manual over and over to make sure I was setting the temp. correctly. The room is 15X16 which is smaller than what the unit is supposed to be capable of cooling off. After 7 hours of continuous running, the room temperature was down only 3 degrees from 82 to a whooping 79. Not to mention the foul odor that filled the room and made me immediately start to cough. It's headed back to the store tomorrow!

What's great about it: Easy set up.
What's not so great: Doesn't cool very well.
I purchased this unit about two weeks ago and have been using it for the last week. The unit doesn't cool below 74 degrees and after about an hour the water pan fills and needs to be emptied before you can use the unit again. Not so go when you are sound asleep and wake up soaking wet from sweat. So what I did was to set the unit on blocks, actually I used the styofoam that came with the unit, and set a roasting pan under the drain. I kept the plug off so the unit can continually drain so it wouldn't shut off during the night. Also, I have a narrower window so I can only use the the window attachment that has the vent hole and need to use cardboard to fill up the remaining open space. Calling Best Buy tomorrow to see if I can return this unit. Maybe I'd be better off with a window unit. Oh, another thing, don't use the AUTO setting on the unit because if it is humid enough the 'dehumidify' will kick in and you will have to drain the upper drain as well.

What's great about it: Easy to set up, Works great
What's not so great: Scares the cat when it kicks on in Auto Mode
I have a small 1 bedroom apartment and up till now only had a small window unit in the bedroom but no matter how many fans I used, I was unable to pull the cool air out into the living room. I picked up this portable unit yesterday, installed it in the living room with a small fan pushing air out of the room and my entire apartment is very comfortable.
It runs very quietly with the exception of when it kicks on during Auto Mode. Scares the cat every time.
I am very satisfied with my purchase.
The unit is very heavy so if you need to take it up stairs, you may want a friend along to help. I did it alone by strapping it to a small rolling luggage cart and pulling it up one step at a time.

What's great about it: Price?
What's not so great: Blows out Hot Air, Does not cool.
I bought this unit 2 days ago from a local BB. In my apartment we are not allowed to have window air conditioners. Being that I work nights and sleep during the day this became uncomfortable for me. On hot days or even cooler days the temp in my room would easily climb to 84+. I know it probably does not help with the computer and other equipement I have in my room but even when everything was shut down while trying to sleep it would be very uncomfortable. So I looked for a cheap portable air conditioner.
I picked this little bad boy up brought it home setup everything and the air coming out of the unit was 80F on cool! I had my neighbor come over who has had a few of these to make sure everything was hooked up right and it was not an operator error. To make a long story short I ended up buying his old Portable AC from him and it gets the room temp down to 70 with ease in about 20 minutes. Granted it is a 10,000 btu AC but that is still no excuse for this unit to be pushing out 80F air on cool mode. I am greatly dissapointed in Danby and will not be purchasing any of their units in the future. Also my room is only 15'X12' which is 180'SQ. This unit should be good up to a 250SQ FT room. Granted manufacturers over estimate all the time so we will say 200Sq Ft. My room is still smaller than that.
This puppy is going back tommorrow!
