What's great about it: Great for games
What's not so great: Short battery life when playing games like Sims 3. But at least it plays Sims 3!

"Really great computer especially when using it for games! Video and images are clear and projected great! Had some problems with volume but figured out what was wrong and now the volume works fine. I think people should get this computer for gaming if thats what you want but its also worth it for videos and has tons of storage! If you get this hopefully you will enjoy it!"

What's great about it: Amazing labtop, worked right out of the box. During the first month-two months it ran great.
What's not so great: My labtop and Microsoft had a fight, Microsoft won.

"Everything ran amazingly for the first month to two months, after that the computer auto-updated one of the drivers. Not thinking much of it and allowed the labtop to restart to install them upon rebooting the labtop would not boot up corectly. It displayed that one of the initial drivers (one of the ASUS drivers for gaming convenience and necessary for boot) was deleted because of the Microsoft update.

Proceeded to take the labtop back to BestBuy to see if they would fix (still under warranty) and was told it would cost approximately $100. Pretty sure it was just the sale's person I was speaking with because another employee came and talked to me about it while the initial one was in the back getting my papers together. Was told the labtop was allowed to be returned because of the problem.

What's great about it: Design, Unique lights, nice graphics, great audio, compact keyboard, little to no heat, awesome for gamers
What's not so great: Dust Magnet if left on in the open, definite ok battery, small screen

"This is the best Asus you can buy without breaking your pockets. Feature buttons and plugins are placed in various locations due to the essentials of the keyboard which is fine for everyone. Bright for user up late in the dark. Easy grab, a bit heavy, so if you want to bring it around, be prepared to have a 7-8 lb on you while getting coffee. It can run many games which is pretty good for a 900$ laptop. Best laptop Asus has made so far under 1000$, but more will come."

What's great about it: Ran almost all games perfectly for 2 months, No setup required, good price
What's not so great: Dust Magnet, ran into Hard Drive problem 2 months after purchase

"For the first two months of having this laptop, it ran nigh perfectly. It had a few problems with some games, but that's Vista's fault, not the laptop's hard ware itself.

However, after my first two months, I ran into several severe problems. My speakers and webcam ceased working, and attempting to use system restore was impossible. Apparently, my Hard Drive had become corrupted, and would not allow me to use a system restore.

It is currently off getting repaired, but I expected it to last much longer than this. My old laptop, which was owned by my grandparents, and I had bought for $100, lasted several years before any real problems appeared.

What's great about it: well performing GPU, overall a wonderfull laptop
What's not so great: short battery life, picks up a lot of dust...

"i bought this laptop about a month ago and i am totally satisfied with it !! its got all that you will need to make your friends turn green with envy and at the same time serve a gamers' need perfectly !! its similar to having an alienware but only its light on the pocket....

the system performs very well and with its turbo extreme mode it gets you a pretty good performance without making u feel the heat . although even a 9 cell battery is too little for this beast, it get most of the work done without a fuss ..

audio output is excellent and the laptop doesent even lose out on functionality in terms of ports!! with 4 USB ports, its makers gave it an HDMI, an e-SATA, a FireWire port and a place to put in an antenna for radio (the antenna comes as a seperate accesory).

the only thing lacking in this baby is bluetooth and good quality speakers !!

Apart from these two things, this laptop is a steal deal for this price and its mind-blowing performance !!
Its a must buy for all thise who want to find a balance between money and performance (without compromising much on the former)!!

What's great about it: VERY GOOD PRICE, great graphics card, tunable processor, tunable battery lifes, i have set mine to have around 4.5 hours
What's not so great: Screen resolution could be a little higher, buts its perfectly fine, WLAN drivers

"I have constantly read reviews before purchasing this laptop, warning about undue failures or crashes. But I have realized that it may not be as you've read.

After I bought my G50vt X5 I experienced many crashes, I thought it might have been due to the installation of Windows Vista SP 2, but I then came to the conclusion that the reason for the failures was due to a quite coincidental series of events.

For one, the WLAN card, as stated as a con, is not perfectly functional with wireless b routers, "unfortunately" for me I had a spare USB wireless b adapter from Belkin. After installing the driver for it I experienced several crashes (crashes which seemed to occur every time i was downloading something.). After I Reinstalled a fresh Copy of Vista (from the convenient partition on the HDD which is accessible while continuously pressing the F9 button on startup, might i add), I had no problems for 5 days, then i thought it was time to use my wireless adapter again, but then it immediately crashed.

That was when i realized that the wireless adapter makes any Vista OS (be it 32 bit (x86) or 64 bit (x64)) crash.

I have since then realized that RealPlayer also causes Visa to crash.

And it's quite ironic, because the built in WLAN card makes you want to use a usb adapter, which is probably the reason why other people have been crashing. It has nothing to do with this specific computer, just Vista OS itself.

After about 5 months after i uninstalled those drivers, I have not had a single mishap on this laptop.

And for anyone who's curious, this laptop is extremely versatile, which means that you can customize it in a great variety of ways especially the battery saving features, which include High Performance, Entertainment, Office, and Battery Saving. And each mode lets you controll everthing from CPU max and min power, to LCD brightness. And once you customize and save these settings, changing the modes is as simple as pressing a button.
This is how i am able to achieve a 4.5 hour battery life!!!

There is also a feature which lets you Overclock your Processor with the touch of a button, Normal mode, Turbo, and Turbo Extreme.
normal gives you what you payed for, 2.13 GHz. Turbo boosts you up to 2.24 GHz, and Turbo Extreme brings you to an even higher 2.35 GHz.
This feature is one that i cannot live without, as the extra boost really puches up the CPUs computational power. Ive researched this and figured out that the Turbo Extreme makes the P7450 comparable to the P8600!!! that is about a hundred and a half dollar difference!!!

Now for the Video Card (GPU, it's upgradeable, so is the CPU. But you probably wouldn't need to because the GeForce 9800M GS GPU is Graphically endowed with power, i can play Crysis on High/Ultra High with at about 32 FPS @ 1366 X 768, with no AA, but with AA @2X it's still good @ 28 FPS!!! Pretty good considering that most desktops struggle to do that, except for Custom made ones which cost around the same as this notebook anyway. And all Ultra High with no AA @ 1024 X 768 runs @ 24 FPS, which is not very pretty, but its plenty playable.
And i'm extremely positive that if it can play Crysis at those framerates, then it can play any other game on it's highest settings, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!

SO IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A CHEAP GAMING LAPTOP THAT IS HIGHLY VERSITILE, AND POWERFUL, YOU'VE ACCOMPLISHED YOU'RE MISSION, BECAUSE HERE IT IS!!!

What's great about it: the speed, booting into express gate, did i mention speed?
What's not so great: the only thing i've got a problem with this machine is the keyboard's cap came off the num8 key

"i bought this laptop as a 2nd computer, but quickly migrated over from a sony vaio. it's faster (thanks to the dual core), and the speedy 72000 rpm HDD. not quite solid state, but better than the norm 54000. i like booting into express gate when i don't have anything to do. it does the basics (browser, skype, music, online games, and chat and photo viewer. it'll boot up in 3 seconds.
it comes with vista 64 installed. i created another partition and slapped win7RC1 on it, and haven't gone back to vista since. i even had magic jack going. anyway, you'll not be sorry buying one of these puppies.

What's great about it: great price, head turning looks, strong performance
What's not so great: faulty keyboard, hard disk issues

"Wanted a strong gaming machine and this seemed to be the best price to value combination. A sexy looking machine, simple to start up and operate. Really enjoyed the power which shows in smooth game movements, easy photo manipulation.

On the negative side, unusually for laptops in this day and age, I found at times corrupt files due to hard disk issues. A bit alarmed when you copy something and then find that the file is corrupt on the HDD.

Also no satisfied with the keyboard, find that sometimes the key stroke does not post inspite of proper punching. hence when doing a lot of rapid typing the machine misses key letters. very strange as I have never experienced that with any new keyboard for the 2 decade.

It does weight in at a beast and is definitely not meant for long hauls but then that is expected of a laptop of this nature. The display is decent - nothing earth shattering and slightly stretchy. Somehow photos just feel more pulled apart than normal.

Overall still think I got a good deal in the price, however would have enjoyed it more had I not got some of these basic glitches. My advise, check your machine throughly when you open it up.

What's great about it: VERY EASY TO USE, NUM PAD, COOL LIGHTS, FAST AND GREAT DISPLAY, FACE RECOGNITION, COOL DESIGN, ETC
What's not so great: HIGH PERFORMANCE FLOW HEAT AIR, BATTERY LIFE

"THIS IS A LAPTOP, SO I DON'T EXPECT A PERFECTION (ALMOST). I SEE A LOTS OF DIFFERENTS LAPTOPS IN BEST BUY, AND THIS IS MY CHOICE BECAUSE THE PRICE AND THE QUALITY IS VERY IMPORTANT, AND HERE YOU GET A $1.200-$1.500 FOR $849.

AND THIS IS SOMETHING WHAT YOU HAVE TO THINK WHEN YOU GOING TO PAY A LOT A MONEY: HOW MANY LAPTOPS RETURN WITH PROBLEMS?, AND ASUS IS ONE WHO NORMALLY DOESN'T GET RETURNS FOR PROBLEMS, HP, TOSHIBA, ETC RETURNS A LOT COMPARED WITH ASUS (I ASK TO A VERY NICE SELLER ON BEST BUY). SO I WANT SOMETHING THAT NEVER GIVE ME PROBLEMS (JUST THE WIRELESS CONNECTION, BUT I CALL TO ASUS TECHNICAL SUPPORT 24/7 AND MY PROBLEM GET FIXED IN 2 MINUTES, NO BIG DEAL).

YOU WON'T BE DESAPOINTED WITH THIS LAPTOP, JUST REMEMBER IS NOT A SUPER PC IS A LAPTOP OR PAY MORE THAN $2000 AND YOU GET MORE POWER BUT NOT BIG DIFFERENCE BECAUSE THIS LAPTOP IS VERY FAST FOR THE PRICE.

MY GAMES RUNS VERY WELL IN ALL HIGH RESOLUTION.
DISPLAY WITH VIVID COLORS, I SEE MY PICTURES IN VERY NICE COLORS FROM MY SONY CAMERA.
THE LIGHTSCRIBE IS VERY COOL FOR ME
THE LIGHTS ON THE PAD AND THE TOP IS VERY COOL AND YOU CAN TURN OFF IF YOU WANT.

MANY OTHER FEATURES THAT YOU CAN'T GET IT IN OTHER LAPTOPS

IN OTHER WORDS GET IT IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY JUST RETURN IT OR EXCHANGE IT BUT YOU WON'T.

What's great about it: Great gaming performance, lots of inputs, good battery life, cool pre-installed software
What's not so great: Cover design isnt for everyone, some issues with the Power4Gear battery life software, webcam is just bad

"Overall I'm impressed with this Asus G50 laptop. I did a lot of research before buying, and for the price, the hardware that this machine had could not be beat. All i needed was a laptop under a $1000, that would be able to play games at medium settings. Well this laptop far exceeded my expectations, as i'm playing a lot of my favorite newer games at high settings. games like Crysis and Warhead i can play at high settings, hovering around the 30fps mark at 720p resolution. I was pretty amazed by this. Bioshock plays anywhere from 60-100 fps, UT3 maxed out at around 50-60fps. ArmA II demo did bring this to its knees, but that game is pretty poorly optimized anyway. Gaming-wise, this thing delivers especially with the direct console overclocking, it only overclocks it a little bit but you can see the difference in fps.

Other features with laptop are pretty cool. It came with 15 months of antivirus and a year worth of lojack. Some of the other software is kinda cool to mess around with, but you wont be using it all too often.

As for the bad things, the webcam is just awful (but it is on most laptops so i can't really complain). Also i had an issue whenever i went to "battery save" mode in the power4gear software. Going into that mode would cause some of my applications to have their preferences reset, including my graphics and display options. And switching back to "high performance" mode wouldn't put the settings back, so i had to manually go back and change them. so for now when i need to save battery i just leave it in high performance and turn the display brightness down. And that works decently. The battery can last for a good 2 and half hours more than enough for me, because i usually keep it plugged in anyway.

What's great about it: Amazing Graphics card, Fast processer and hard drive, useful asus utilities, keypad, Awsome cover design
What's not so great: Small wi-fi problems which are fixed easily, widescreen cases are really hard to find (needs 16"), fingerprinty

"Hello,

About 2 weeks ago i bought this Asus laptop.... first off, WOW. This laptop is not only b.e.a.utiful, but it also has the power to back it up! Everything a gamer needs in a laptop is present, from the 7200 rpm hard drive to the Tier 1 nVidia 9800m gs graphics card. Also, the battery is not that bad, and the asus utilities that come with it are fun and useful! If you are even thinking about getting this one... stop thinking and buy one.... now. Dont even bother with the newer asuses, they are mostly lacking dedicated graphics cards and sport weaker processers (the only OK thing on this laptop, everything else was awsome). Also they lack the flair of this and other outlet shop asuses.

Some problems I have encountered with the asus sometimes is a wifi hookup that can be a bit shoddy at times, and also that this laptop is very heavy (hopefully because its full of components). Thankfully it does get rid of heat well (of which it produces alot of). Also, make sure to either buy a 16 or 17 4:3 aspect ratio cases because it wont fit if you go lower.

Anyway, This laptop is awsome with games... so far i dont have very many games... But i have run a demo of need for speed carbon (highest settings) and it looks GORGEOUS! Also i played a battle on medeval 2 Total War (prequal to Empires: Total War) with over 4000 people without any lag. Supposidly ur able to play GTA4 on medium high settings.

Seriously, if u are doubting yourself for a second, dont... This laptop combines the best of everything at an affordable price.

What's great about it: Portable (other than battery life), good value for price.
What's not so great: Short Battery Life, Design not for everyone

"I wouldnt recomend taking it around as an everyday portable laptop, but its nice that you can have gaming power in a 15.4" laptop without breaking 1G. Its a little heavy to take around everyday but it can survive the occasional travel when needed. The biggest problem is that the 6-cell battery doesnt give you anymore than 2 and a half hours of real power without the adapter. The adapter itself is so big that its very difficult to carry around. However, with all of that aside, this computer packs massive gaming power in a sturdy 15.4" design that out performes my old desktop pc. Overall 5/5"

What's great about it: Nvidia 9800 GS Graphics, Fast CPU, HUGE hard drive, AWESOME PRICE!
What's not so great: Short battery life, not the greatest res,

"AWESSOOMMMEEE Gaming laptop. I've owned it for a month. I easily run GTA IV but only on certain settings (it's still awesome since GTA IV is REALLY high detail) The full keyboard is really handy. I enjoy using the keyboard controls for games, they are marked. Overclocking is an awesome feature! The OLED is helpful but sometimes be a little off. Oh! I bought this when it was on sale just after June which was $730! What a savings!!

The bad is the cam & mic suck, prefer to buy another microphone or cam if you are looking to use the ones on this laptop. Have to either downgrade or upgrade the wireless network adapter if not you get a dropped connection every other hour. The res isn't so bad but it has it's issues. Sounds really low but if you don't live in a loud environment than it's not a big problem. If you do just buy some speakers or headphones. A lot of people complain about the OS which is Vista premium. It isn't bad at all! Just have to get use to using vista if your coming from XP if you don't like it upgrade to beta Windows 7.

This is a laptop that is one heck of a deal. A lot of bang for your buck. it's diffidently the one too pick if your in the market for one.

What's not so great: Numberpad is cramped, battery life short, wild colors not for all.

"I really can't complain because I just bought mine on clearance for $599 and there is not a better deal for that amount of money. OLED is cool. It is much cooler than the Toshiba A305-6916 that I returned. Also you can expand with the extra hd bay or back up to one without have a drive hanging on the back."

What's great about it: Graphics, power, speed, pretty much everything
What's not so great: nothing yet, unless you don't like the outside design

"I have had this for a couple of months now, and I have not had any of the problems that many others are posting. This computer is great, extremely fast, the battery actually lasts a lot longer than i thought it would, and the graphics are hands down amazing. I bought crysis at the same time, and immediately put it in, and it runs very smooth at all high settings. for those of you who don't know, crysis is probably the most graphically demanding game out there.

Also, if you buy it, and by some fluke, you have a problem, just take it back and ask for a new one, its not that hard.

I gave convenience a 4 because of its size, it is a 15.6 inch, which is hard to find cases for exactly, but it fits fine in 17 inch cases. The battery also sticks out a little in the back, but not nearly enough to be a problem.

Bottom line, after comparing the power inside of this computer to the other companies, this matches up with some of the top computers from dell, hp, etc. The advantage here is saving a ton of money without sacrificing anything at all. You are literally paying for the brand name when you buy a comp. like this from the major companies.

So, buy this, don't hesitate at all, I'm still amazed by it to the day.

What's great about it: Graphics, Power, Design, Price, Good battery for gaming laptop, excellent hardware, Direct Console is great
What's not so great: Vista, but vista is sorta mandatory now.

"This is a top-tier laptop for it's price. I bought it wanting a powerful laptop for around $900, and this thing delivered. I like to play new games, so I needed the processing power and RAM. The processor is great, and if I'm just cruising on firefox, I'm always under 30% usage. I got the new game Prototype, hoping this thing could handle it. Whenever I play games, I turn on Turbo-Extreme mode on the Direct console, boosting this thing to like 2.4 Ghz. It FLIES! I can run Prototype on all high settings. It can easily handle WoW, for you RPG fans.

Unfortunately, Vista is the dominant OS right now, unless you want a mac(for some reason). I just disable the annoying UAC, because OBVIOUSLY when I click on something, I WANT IT DONE.

Anyways, I hope I gave y'all gamers some insight into what this thing can do.

What's great about it: Put windows 7 on it and its amazing, love the number keypad
What's not so great: Sound way to low

"Overall great computer for the price. They do have a new one out more memory on video card but slower processor and cost $100 bucks mor. So still best bang for the buck. Just install windows 7"
