What's great about it: Blue Display, fast. What's not so great: Battery life, over heating
"I had this laptop for 5 days and at the beginning i loved it although the screen res. was pretty low, the colors looked faded on the screen because of it also. The main reason why i returned this laptop was it kept over heating and crashing my games! I tried the performance boost on it and before i could even get into my games it would crash. It didnt happend every single time but enough that i got sick of it. maybe i just got a bad one. but i took it back and paid the extra $250 for the Gateway FX. other than the crashing it was a good pc and if you were on a tight budget i would most def. say to get it."

What's great about it: Everything so far What's not so great: Vista
"I looked at a lot of laptops before buying this one about 2 months ago, I have not been disapointed. I don't play games so I can't say anything about that but I do a lot of video editing and it is great!! I use Pinnacle Studio to edit my video (it is a resource hog) and it works great. I often have multiple applications open at the same time and have had no problems.
I had a problem with the wireless dropping me often for no reason so I ran Driver Alert and it downloaded the latest driver and have not had the problem since.
The case is a fingerprint magnet and that is why a carry a microfiber cloth in my computer case, works well to remove the prints. I have surfed the net using my wireless connection for over 3 hours with no problem so I don't understand why some complain of battery life, when running in the turbo extreme mode the battery last only about 1 1/2 hours, I only use turbo when editing video and I always plug in for that.
I love the ability to dual boot, this machine is a beast. I could not be more pleased.
Did I say I love this machine???? It is as powerful as my desktop."

What's great about it: Definately the price, good for games, fast hard drive, fast FSB. What's not so great: Short battery life, a lot of trial software...it's a heavy laptop.
"It definately is a fast system for the price. The main issues for me was to make sure it had at least a 7500rpm hard drive and 1066 FSB. And both of these work great. I am looking in the future though to swap out the hard drive with a solid state drive. If anyone has done that already with this laptop...I would love someone to tell me how that experience went.
I deleted all the trial software...I know some people like trial software to see if they like it or not..but I have other computers I test software on..so if I want a particular software...i will buy it.
Also..if your looking for a gaming type laptop that you are not looking to travel with...then this is the laptop for you. The reason being when I put this laptop in my backback..I just about had whiplash...the laptop weighs almost 10 lbs...but that's because it's a gaming laptop...it's not the normal type of laptop you can travel with unless you are willing to haul around 10 lbs of laptop.
Plus the fact...if you travel with this laptop...you are only going to get about an hour of battery power...maybe. But again...it's a GAMING laptop..not a normal laptop. You can switch the battery usage to a normal type...but because it has a fast hard drive and fast FSB...it's still going to drink up battery juice like it's alcohol.
So make sure when your shopping for a laptop..that you understand what type of laptop you need....
If you want high performance and want to run games with ease...this is the laptop for you. If your wanting a laptop to just run business applications and simple web surfing...this isn't the laptop for you...cause a normal type laptop user will not use all the bells and whistles this laptop has. Plus the fact the normal user will not want to drag 10 lbs of laptop around.
But I would definately recommend this laptop to the high end user that needs performance and quickness."

What's great about it: Everything What's not so great: Vista
"After my 1 year old Toshiba had too many problems and years ago I used to build computers using omly Asus MB. This computer is great, It's fast and really beatiful. I am in love with this machine. The screen looks a lot larger than 15" and having a seperate num pad was a good idea. I can't say enough good things about this laptop, but if you are looking for a really great machine this is it."

What's great about it: Very fast, plays any game very fast (orange box was around 50fps) It has a subwoofer under the computer! What's not so great: Vista!!!
"This laptop is absolutely amazing! I'm going to college for video production, and I don't need my own computer, but it helps. I've got sony vegas pro on this, a few games, some music. I really like the smart logon manager. It looks at your face for facial recognition and logs you in, no need to do anything when your signing in, just smile for the camera. In different ligthing conditions (like morning, afternoon, night) it thinks your a different person, so just add more pics onto the list. It also takes a picture of anyone who tries to get on your computer, and you can view it later.
Direct console lets you change the lights on the back, add messages to the little screen, and of course overclock the processor. That's right, you can overclock cpu, right from the small program, and its an instant change. I was playing music on the zune program, and it eats a lot of juice, the CPU was running at 89 Percent! I went to the performance tabs, and switched to Turbo. I'm not sure what speed it puts it at, but the CPU percentage went down to 50 percent, then I threw it into extreme turbo and its running at 18 percent. You could consider it sort of like a gear shift, changing gears so it runs easier.
Now each level makes the computer use more juice, and it will get hotter, but its still stable.
As for vista I fixed that right up. I've been a beta tester for windows 7, and because of how good it is I have it installed on a few machines around the house.
And the release client just came out, which is the actual final release of windows 7, but its being tested by testers (like me) and it runs just fine on this computer. There is a driver disk to re-install everything correctly, and it works just fine. Windows 7 release client is free btw, you just need a microsoft login, and your set. The license lasts till june of 2010."

What's great about it: good performance, cool design, led infoo display, lights on back, good price What's not so great: nothing
"I got this laptop after my previous one was considered a lemon under the extended warranty. I love best buys warranty service they fixed up my old laptop three times (repairs toalting over $600) than after it needed a 4th repair they let me pick out a new one. anyway I went from a 2gb centrino gateway to this and boy am i ever pleased. I love this computer. It has enough power to do anything i want and it has a numeric keypad. I love the lights and cool design on the back and the led display on the keyboard is cool it tells you your battery life and can be set to show cpu, memory, usage and message alert. Another thing i must say i was a little leary about vista because of what every one says about it. however after using it i love it, it is very easy to use and all my old stuff still works. And with this performance anything runs great.
sum up my review: Buy the warranty Buy this laptop and don't wait for stupid vista clone windows 7, vista is fine"

What's great about it: great value for the money What's not so great: fingerprint magnet, screen resolution
"I shopped for a gaming laptop and narrowed my choice down to the Asus G50 and the Gateway P-7805. My previous laptop was a Gateway MT6451 which I also bought from BB and I had great experiences with both. The price difference is the first thing I noticed and for $300.00 more (tax included) for the Gateway I would be getting a mere .13ghz in processor speed, 1gb DDR3 video memory and a 17" screen. Being that economic times are tough I decided that the Asus would be a better overall buy. I have put this laptop through several 24 hour benchmarks including 1024 prime, SiSoft Sandra. I was able to safely oc up to 2.45 ghz and ran multiple stability tests and everything went well. The laptop gets warm when I am gaming, but never over 80 degs (GPU). I also easily loaded XP, W7 RC 64 and Vista 64. I did purchase an additional hdd which is the WD Scorpio Black 320gb 7200 rpm and now I have 600gb's of storage. Overall considering all of the paces I have put this through in the last 2 weeks I can say without a doubt that this is the best gaming value for the money right now. It has played modern games like COD WAW on all the highest settings with no hiccups at all. GREAT PURCHASE!!!!!!!
Edit: I got my dad one as his desktop broke and he is enamored at how powerful this laptop is for the price..."

What's great about it: Best deal ever. What's not so great: The Lame art design.
"This is the second laptop I've bought this year and it is a beast. I've had no problems with it at all. Like all gaming laptops the battery life sucks if you run in high performance and overclock mode. The screen looks great compared to other laptops however I've heard people have problems that it's 1366x768, but I haven't noticed anything different and the games fill the screen nicely. Alot of people have complained about how hot it gets, well it is a gaming laptop. Some of the directional keys don't feel really sturdy but none of them have fell off. The speakers sound like every other laptop speakers. All in all I am very pleased with it because I've had no problems with it for 3 weeks now using it every day for a few hours. I was a little hesitant because I've never used asus but I would make the same purchase again."

What's great about it: 4gb RAM, 9800M GS video card, 2nd HDD bay! What's not so great: screen resolution size, small screen
"I just bought this laptop using BB's instore pickup, and I couldn't have picked a better laptop for the price. I know, the video car isn't as up to snuff as some other laptops/desktops out there, but for a mobile gaming platform - it'll play your games.
The only thing I don't like about this computer is the weird screen resolution (1366x768) and small screen (15.6").
I've triple booted Windows XP (still looking for the drivers), Vista (my main OS) and Windows 7 RC1 (just to test it out - and I'll be buying it when its released) and it works wonderfully on all three OSes. Oh, and yes, they're all 64 bit, but I'm not used to it, so I gotta find security software that won't break my computer."

What's great about it: fast, good graphics, great price What's not so great: battery, heats up quickly
"its a great gaming laptop. even played world of warcraft on it and its running smooth. worth the price and great graphics. the only drawback is for a gaming laptop the battery wont survive long. i have to plug it on while playing coz the battery life cant sustain long hours of gaming but for the price i think its worth it. It also heats up quickly other than that im satifsy with my purchase."

What's great about it: Graphics card, screen resolution What's not so great: wireless connection, slowed down after 5 days multiple problems
"I would not recomend this product at all. First off it worked pretty smooth right out of the box. But after 3 days it began to slow down and I would get disconnected from the internet alot. start up screen would flash alot and when it finally started there where no desktop icons so i had to right click choose the view tab and uncheck and recheck the show desktop icons tab to get them to appear. They would dissapear evey 30 mins or so. And after a few days it started having trouble running age of empires 3 it kept freezing and lagging and that game is not demanding in the leat bit"

What's great about it: Everything What's not so great: Minor internet connection issues that were easily solved.
"I love this laptop. I've had it for exactly two months now and have enjoyed it a lot. I use it mainly for gaming, as well as internet, watching movies and other entertainment. This thing is tough and has taken everything I've thrown at it like Crysis, Mirrors Edge, Medal of Honor Airborne, The Club, Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl, all on high settings and they ran beautifully. I've also played older games on it like Far Cry, Dreamfall, Painkiller, Psychonauts, and Carmageddon 3, a game that is almost ten years old. I have yet to have any problems getting a game to run on this.
When I took the laptop out of the box and opened it up, i was impressed with the size of the screen. Not too big, but not small either, just perfect for me. Some reviewers weren't impressed with the speakers, but I was. They're not loud and booming, but to me the sound that comes out of them is great. While walking through a forest in Crysis, I heard an alien roar come from my left and it really sounded like it was coming from the left of me. While playing Stalker, I was walking down a dark hallway when I heard a monster roar from behind, and it sounded like it was right behind me. Very cool for such small speakers. Of course, if you don't like the speakers, you can always get some headphones, though from what I've read, it would be best to get a USB pair as those seem to work better.
The computer is very stable, I haven't had it freeze up, crash, or anything. I've heard a lot of complaints about Vista, but in my experience, I just don't understand the hate. I like it and have had no problems with it. This is by far the most stable system I've ever used.
I had some minor internet connection issues. Most of the time the internet would work fine but sometimes I would get a "limited connection" message, or rarely would just disconnect. It only happened when I was surfing the web, never when playing an online game. It didn't do it a lot, but it was annoying. After reading some of the helpful reviews on here, and doing some research on the internet, it seems the problem wasn't with the laptop itself, but the wireless card. Regardless of the brand, other laptops with the same wireless card was having the same exact problems. Well, all I had to do was dowload and update the drivers from the Intel website for the wireless card, a painless process that only took a few minutes, and I haven't had a problem since.
If you're like me, and want to get a laptop that can play the current games, as well as the games you may have missed out on the past few years, pick this up. Some so called computer experts on the internet would try to have you believe that if you want to play a game like Crysis, you would have to get a multi thousand dollar computer, and that is just not true. While this laptop may not be an uber machine with a quad core processor and two video cards, it is still a beast. This is absolutely the best money I have spent in a long time and I look forward to jumping on it and using it each day. So do yourself a favor, join the Republic of Gamers and get this laptop. Thanks for reading my review, and I hope it helps in your decision."

What's great about it: Very good deal for the hardware, strong competitor with much more expensive gaming laptops. What's not so great: Sound is controlled by the fnc key + the F keys (F6, F7, F8), sound is too quiet, loud fan, very bulky, cramped keyboard
"My old laptop was a 15.4 inch screen like this one, but had a regular keyboard (no keypad). This one has the keypad, but the keys feel crowded.
My biggest complaint was the touchpad driver. It kept saying the right button was pressed down, and every touch/click function acted as a right click. Asus support website does NOT offer working drivers for this laptop, nothing that I could find anyway. My wireless mouse worked fine, but I didn't like the feeling of being restricted to just that.
My younger brother ran benchmark tests without my permission, haha. It runs Crysis, Supreme Commander, Spore.. all on their highest settings without screen flicker or loss of framerate.
Processor and Graphics: Overclocking, yes, it actually has dedicated software and quicklaunch buttons to set your performance settings, even overclocking. I didn't feel the need to overclock. I didn't come across a game that it couldn't handle.
Monitor: the image quality is stunning for what you'd normally see in a $900 budget gamer laptop.
Sound: I felt this lacked pretty bad. Even adjusting the sound settings for higher wav. sounds and the like, it was a pretty big disappointment. Also, there are no dedicated controls (no dials, no easy way to change the volume). It's a total nightmare trying to adjust in the dark. What I initially thought was a subwoofer on the bottom, is just a useless decorative circle.
Hard Drive: While there's no hotswap bay to add another hard drive (and no Solid State Drive option) it still performed to my expectations as a gamer.
Power Supply: It's maybe half the size of a 2-slice toaster, gets hot fast, not very travel friendly, but not really anything you can do here. Doesn't affect performance, it's just a travel/visual eye-sore.
My overall impression: I would've definately kept this for many years, but the sound controls not having their own interface and the touchpad and its obsessive non-stop right clicking did it in. If you can deal with my issues, this one is a definite bargain, hands down!"

What's great about it: Great graphics, great performance, What's not so great: runs a little warmer, fingerprint magnet
"I received this laptop approximately 3 weeks ago. It has been one of the best computer experiences I have had so far. My original plans were to just get lower end laptop for business purposes, but then I saw this thing for the price I started to reconsider.
I do alot of gaming on my spare time (WoW mostly, and a couple of other MMOs and SP games on the side), and this thing has ran them all flawlessly! This laptop has replaced my desktop as my primary gaming computer. I run around in 25 man raids in WoW (Naxx and Ulduar) with max settings and I do not see one single studder in performance with that many people/mobs and action on the screen. I have been running WoW, and multiple programs for work at the same time, and she will switch between them all without a hitch.
This laptop tends to run a little warmer than previous ones I have had in the past, but with this much under the hood cannot complain. I just keep a cooling pad running, and the problem is solved. The size of it is a ackward (looks like a 17 in. laptop) for trips to and from work, but for the price and performance I am not going to be picky.
Overall, this laptop is truely a dream!"

What's great about it: Everything What's not so great: Battery life but its a gamer so yea
"I had a dell computer for about 7 years, and at least she broke on me. I had been looking up laptops for sometime. But i had always heard bad stuff about laptops not being so great for games(WoW, GW, L4D, ect.) and what not. Well they lied this bad girl is amazing, I've had it for about two weeks and i think im in love? My old computer could run games but i would have major lag when the graphics where high, so it was a big change going form blah to ohlala. Only thing i hate is battery doesn't really last long if its not hooked up, but i can understand why so its all gravy. This girls a beast and for the price you can't pass this up."

What's great about it: graphics speed, upgradable, price What's not so great: a little big, preloaded software, outside lights a little annoying
"I have owned this laptop for about a week and absolutely love it. Incredibly fast, great graphics performance and upgradable which is unusual for a laptop. I have Flight Simulator X on highest settings with no problems whatsoever. I was also looking at the Gateway gaming system but Im glad I purchased this one and saved the $250."
