On the 5th day of having this computer (which I'd been excited about!), the power mysteriously went out. I would push the power button, and the machine would surge for a second and then go back out. I tried everything before calling Acer. I kid you not the guy at Acer told me to PAY to have the computer shipped to them and they would fix it or get me a new one. The computer was only 5 days old, and this was clearly a defect in the design, not a user problem. Finally, I called Best Buy and they told me to take it to the nearest store. I did, they had the same problem with it, and they gave me my money back. Now, I am without a computer and honestly will never buy an Acer again. That a computer will have problems or that you occasionally get a lemon is understandable from any company. The customer "no-service" is unacceptable.

What's great about it: I wouldn't say anything is great about it.
What's not so great: Just about everything.
I went through two of these in just over a month. Both were defective. The first had a bad CD/DVD tray eject button. The second a bad mother board.

What's great about it: good price, nice color, many usb ports, 640GB memory
What's not so great: very low quality keyboard, freezes up, SD card slot is broken after light use, cant set passwords on documents
the keyboard that came with this computer is horrible, keys fall off when typing and i ended up resorting to using a pen to push the key, like the monitor, the sd slot broke after using it lughtly for a few months, it has many usb ports which is nice, the comp. only comes with a 30 day trial of microsoft works. once the trial expires you have to buy a program for $160 to be able to print, luckilywe knew someone that had the program. lately it has been malfunctioning by when i go to type, it brings up other programs and i have to restart the comp to get it back to normal. we paid $550 for the speakers, flat screen monitor, keyboard, mouse and the tower. overall i would not reccomend this computer because of failing parts such as the keyboard and SD card slot.

What's great about it: Lots of features for the price
What's not so great: Poor design, shoddy construction, fails often
I have this computer and I hate it.
It worked great for a month, then the problems started cropping up. I only use it for work and web surfing, so I only loaded MS Office, Firefox and Chrome, plus Photoshop, Skype, and Quickbooks on it. Despite this light load, it freezes up randomly every few days and gives me either the blue screen of death, or a black and white screen indicating a memory dump. Additionally, also just over a month in, the box started making a noise that sounds like a bad bearing in a fan. Again, this noise is random- it stops and starts often.
Finally, the design is just bad- for example, it has a VGA, DVI and HDMI port, but the VGA port ships with a dummy connector on it- you must open the tower up and install a VGA jumper to actually use a VGA monitor.
Update- now 6 months after my purchase, the computer is virtually unusable- it no longer connects to the internet, and almost any program causes it to freeze up and shut down,

What's great about it: price, speed, looks nice
What's not so great: removing uneccessary programs
I dont know what people find wrong with this unit. After removing unecessary programs that I will never use found this computer to never freeze. If other reviewers by there units from a store like best buy they wouldnt have to wait so long for repairs if it needed any. Get a good security system to put on it DO NOT BUY ONE FROM INTERNET COMPANYS you will be very sorry. I did on my last computer and it caused most of problems I had with it. I loved old one but bought programs from internet and installed trouble. This coumpter will run excellent if you dont keep bunch of programs open. Also defrag system regulary and you will be happy with this unit. As for heat problem writers complain about use in ventilated area not put in cabinet to hide it and it will run much cooler.I find this computer to be excellent for my needs. If you are into gaming big time get a more powerful computer to use most problems people experience comes from underpower for there needs. I after saying all this I recommend this computer

What's great about it: Size, speed, number of USB ports, appearence, Intel
What's not so great: Cooling fan a little noisy.
This computer is simply amazing. It was purchased as a bundle deal including: The computer itself and everything that comes in the box, monitor, and an Epson printer. This computer FAR exceeds my expectations. I'd say this computer is one of the best, if not the best, for under $700. This computer replaced an older Acer that was simply aging and suffering problems from inexpirenced users surfing the internet/over working it. Still runs and is entirely operational, though. The number of USB ports is another upside, not only is there room for all permanently attatched hardware in the back, but more than ample USB ports in the front for charging devices, flashdrives, etc. I was also very pleased with it's media card port, something some computers fall short on. This computer does not normally lag. I'm a moderate computer user, and it easily runs my MP3's software, a video, my messager client, all while I'm typing an e-mail effortlessly. This computer runs Intel, another thing I really love about this Acer. My last had AMD, not that I really disliked it, it was just a bit noisy, unlike this Intel. This was my first computer with Windows Vista, and I'm glad it was. I wouldn't have wanted to learn about the new OS on anything else. However, there are some VERY minor downfalls. The only thing that is a bit bothersome is that the cooling fan can at time get loud, creating a sound similar to a plane taking off. It runs hot on the top, but that doesn't really bother me. Also, the AX1700-U3700A, the model I have, runs a 64-bit processor, so this computer is not for someone who is completely computer illiterate/doesn't have someone to assist them with the computer. It's very easy to set-up, both hardware and software. If you're looking for a computer with all the features/speed for moderate computing needs, and don't wanna spend more than $700, this is for you.

What's great about it: I love all the USB ports to include the five in the front.
What's not so great: Have not found anything wrong with it yet.
I have had many computers over the years and this little computer is the best yet. If you like to surf the net and check emails this is for you, 4GB ram and 640GB hard drive you can't go wrong. I have attached all different kinds of components into the many USB ports from a turntable, wireless head phones with a mic, wireless mouse, to a camera and they all work just fine. I bought mine a few months ago with a wide screen monitor and it was one of the best deals I have ever gotten from Best Buy. For the price this is a great computer and I would recommend it to anyone needing a new or second computer. It is hard to find a computer with all the ram and memory this one has for this kind of price.

What's great about it: You get decent specs for the price in a nice, compact case.
What's not so great: The worst customer service ever. Horrible call-center, incompetent repair center.
My Acer AX1700 died after 2 months of ownership. It has been to Acer's repair center 3 times since then, and it's still broken. Their call-support center is not just an overseas call-center, it's a BAD overseas call-center. Expect to be on the phone for at least an hour every time, if they don't hang up on you first. Their repair center in Texas is home to the worst shipping and handling department I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. My computer always came back more damaged than when I sent it in. Out of the 6 months of ownership of it, it's only been functional on some level for 3 months.

What's not so great: Its not as good as I was told!
I have owned this computer since 02/14/09 and I have already had to replace it because the first one I had, I had it 3 and a half weeks and the mother board fried on it! The I get the second one a month later and have had to call Acer with a problem and then take it back because there was a different problem with it! So all together in the 5 and a half months that I have owned this computer I maybe have had it in my hands for 2 months!!! I call it as I see it and it is JUNK

What's great about it: RAM, Hard Drive space
What's not so great: Sound, Power Supply
From purchasing it, I had to return it twice due to no out put to my monitor (attempted with 2 different monitors). Once this was fixed, there was no audio, whether by speaker or headphone. I will say that if the HDMI interface is used, then there IS audio, and there was video from the begining.
Lastly the power supply quit on me just recently.
All of this happened within 6 months of purchase. I use it primarily for internet, games, video/music, and with the exception of no audio, it performs very well.

What's great about it: has all I need in a computer and a small footprint
What's not so great: The DVD seems a little flimsy, not always sure disk is in properly
I purchased this computer last week end and it was a display model, was given a 10% off(great price), but the adapter for DVI to VGA was missing so I was given a new one off the shelf ( great customer service). Everything hooked up easy and fast after I downloaded some updated drivers for my 2 printers. I can't believe how fast it is and how quiet it runs.
So far I'm really enjoying this computer

What's great about it: Just about everything I need in one chasis
What's not so great: No built in wireless, 64-bit drivers difficult to find
Purchased this mainly for PVR playback, was sold on HDMI output, plus plenty of USB ports. Everything installed easily on 64-bit Vista OS except my USB wireless adapters . Tried Linksys WUSB11 and D-Link DWA-130 Rev A but drivers won't install on 64-bit OS. NVIDIA graphics looks great on my 22" ASUS monitor. Good size hard drive. Unit fits nicely in my component cabinet when laid on its side.
Would have been great to have an extra expansion slot.
NOTE:Advertisement was misleading. Don't expect a free upgrade to WIN 7 if you buy this product.

What's not so great: speakers, gets hot, Labelflash??
For the bundled price of $499.00, it's a great value. Monitor is sharp, processor handles multiple tasks easily. Acer support is in another country, but they do deliver excellent support. Speakers are the downside. So is the Labelflash.feature.
Good luck finding a Labelflash Disc in this country

What's great about it: good price
What's not so great: died after 14 days
My husband and I are both college students, and both need to use the computer - and always at the same time. My husband chose this as a secondary computer, which I agreed at the time was a good deal. For the price (we purchased it in a package), it seemed too good to be true, and it was. The computer was used only for surfing the internet, checking e-mail, and doing homework. One day the computer had the blue screen of death, and died. It would not reboot or anything. The fans were running, but the rest of the computer was not. We had owned the computer for exactly 14 days when it died. We ended up taking it back to BestBuy where they told us that we weren't the only people to have this problem with this particular computer model; several had been returned to the same store.

What's great about it: Great Price, fast, great video
What's not so great: No case fan, video card failed
I looked at lots of different machines before settling on this one. Acer simply had a price and features package that could not be beat. The dual core processor is plenty powerful and chugs through even multiple demanding applications. Vista premium is ok, for Vista, but I am definitely glad to have 4GB of RAM. The video card with HDMI output is great - the picture is amazing.
My only complaints are that the unit doesn't have a case fan so it runs a little warm at times and the video card failed after 4 months. Acer's technical support web-site was a little confusing, but once I sent it off for service I had it back within 3 business days so overall it was a great experience.
