What's great about it: Price, Speed, HDD, Dual Core Processor
What's not so great: The fact less intelligent people are blasting it for user error

"The VGA PORT IS DEAD...if you plug into it, nothings going to happen. Thats why they put that nice adaptor in the bottom of the box for you with a diagram of how to use it. My 8 year old could even figure that out, but people driving 200 miles round trip back and forth to the store to keep making the same mistake is just plain sad. Its a nice computer, very well priced. For those complaining about the DVD tray design, I know how hard it must be to take that extra 1/2 a second to make sure you put it into the tray properly. This CPU package they offer is an excellent deal. 20" LCD Monitor (I upgraded to a 23" Hannspree that has crystal clear resolution) Epson all in one printer (quite fast and prints perfect clarity) and an excellent computer for the cost of 499.99. I own an Acer Aspire Laptop and now this desktop, both are holding up much better than my Dell Laptop, My Gateway Laptop, My HP Desktop, or my old Compaq Presario Desktop. I Live through computers and Acer has thrown me 2 excellent lifelines and saved me quite a bit of money in the process. As long as you take your time with this and stay away from the MORPHEUS And Limewire Downloads, you'll be thoroughly impressed as I continue to be. By the way, as far as upgradability, this computer will take you 4 years without needing any major upgrades (I know this is hard for you high school kids with too much money to believe, but its true). If you make it the 4 years, you've just gotten a nice computer for $10 a month...Excellent Value!"

"I bought 6 of these for our office and 2 have had power supply failures in the past week and a half. I've had them abot 4-1/2 months. Customer service at Acer has been good. If Fed Ex had regular routes and this week wouldn't have been a holiday I probably would have had the unit back within a week of it breaking. I hope the rest of the units in my office don't decide to fail as well."

What's great about it: This is a great processor for the price
What's not so great: I haven't had any problems . . . it is a little noisey but I expected it from computer guide reviews.

"This will be my 2nd Acer purchase and I love it. My son and I both use it for internet, microsoft apps, music, downloading . . . so and so on. . . regular household usage. . . we both enjoy it. My Acer laptop had a little incident (just needs to be fixed) but it is still in good working condition after 4 years of use.

This processor does what it needs to do for a lot less money. I love it and I will continue to purchase Acer.

Not So Good   05/03/2009
By Frogjim from Colllegeville PA

What's great about it: Small package with HDMI
What's not so great: No VGA - Runs HOT!

"Made a total of five round trips to Best Buy covering over two hundred miles before giving up on this unit. Finally settled for a new Gateway full tower. First off, the Acer had no VGA output, for which Best Buy informed me that my Trinitron must be "too old." So they sold me a new LG LCD monitor (good price) that also would not work with this Acer. Maybe Acer never connected VGA in the first place - but included a VGA connector with the unit. Even though I only had the unit on for just minutes at a time, the heat it generated would make it useful as a small space heater. Then again, it has all the components of a full tower in a mini case.
I was really looking forward to putting this unit on my computer table right next to the monitor to take advantage of its compact design and HDMI output to a TV. Never got the chance. Replacement Gateway (with HDMI) is chugging away with the new LG monitor and I am happy with it. Maybe you will have better luck. One final thought. If HDMI is so great, why do so few desktops provide HDMI?

Awsome Desktop   05/01/2009
By Regn from San Jose, CA

What's great about it: cheap price, fast, features, memory, performance
What's not so great: CD/DVD Drive

"When I don't have money to buy other brands of desktop it took me a while to think if I should buy the acer one. When I look at this desktop I was amazed of what it has and what it can do but the one that I am worried was if its going to last for many years. Then I've decided to buy it and I didnt have enough enough to buy warranty as well I said to myself that I'll play gamble this time if this computer last I win but if doesnt oh well I lose.

I've been using it for 2 months and I don't see any problems at all. It is fast, and not giving me any problems. I know how to take care of my computer I do cleaning, defragmenting and doing other stuff and maybe that is why it is not giving me any problem. I would say I bought the right desktop for me and it is really worth it. I just hope they change the CD/DVD drive because sometimes when I'm in a hurry and don't put the CD well it get stocked inside and it is really hard to get it out but thats the only problem that I am experiencing and nothing more.

Good computer at a great price   04/20/2009
By Tersanyus from Indianapolis, IN

What's great about it: Price, small footprint
What's not so great: Vertical use only

"I don't usually write reviews of anything but thought I would share my thoughts on this Acer computer. I usually build my own computers from parts I buy from various places. I'd been wanting a small desktop PC for a while now so as to not use so much space, to cut down on fan noise, and to use less energy. I put together various components but just couldn't come up with a good price.

I saw this Acer here on this site and debated on buying it. What got me to get this one over the other smaller desktops here was the fact this computer had a dedicated graphics card. Most other computers in this price range use onboard Intel graphics that share system memory. Though shared memory for video isn't that bad it isn't that good either.

Overall I think this is a pretty good computer. A day later I decided to get the Acer 23" monitor here as well. This computer will do very well for basic day to day things like word processing, internet browsing and e-mail. It should also do decently on most modern games as well. This is not a gaming computer though but will probably do a decent job on medium settings. I've only played "Half Life 2" and "The Ship" on this and those ran just fine.

The computer didn't come with too much added bloat. There were a lot of games that were installed and I do not know if those were trials or full games but I uninstalled all of them. I already had a virus scan application and Office 2007 so I uninstalled those trials. Do make sure you have a few blank DVD's to create the system backups you'll be prompted to do. The computer appears to have a restore partition but you'll want to have the DVD backups anyway.

Can't say I care too much for the vertical DVD drive. I wish this unit could be used either vertically or horizontally. Other than that I don't really have anything bad to say. Except for the included keyboard and mouse aren't that great but they are usable.

This is a good computer at a very good price.

AAA Excellent Fast Reliable PC from ACER   04/18/2009
By Horseythingz from Orlando, FL

What's great about it: This PC is packed wtih Features, Fast, and Reliable!
What's not so great: There are no negatives with this ACER, I love it...

"I bought this ACER Desktop to replace a SONY VAIO that I had and was very disappointed with the VAIO. I will never spend that kind of money again as I Spent on this VAIO ( not worth it at all) Lots of problems. This ACER works better than my SONY VAIO ever did and it was a terrific price. I recommend this slim lime ACER it is reliable and works great. I also purchased the 23" Acer Monitor which is terrific as well. Thanks ACER for making reliable PCs and Monitors that are affordable in our depressed economy."

Awesome Computer   04/17/2009
By MarioAnt from Moline, IL

What's great about it: Almost All Things
What's not so great: Design of the Disk Drive- But only a minor thing- Still A Great PC

"This computer is awesome. I have had it for a while, and have zero problems with it. It is a great space saver and is really fast. And also, for the bad reviews- I have properly kept my PC maintained and have had no problems with it- maybe you should read user manuals and guides to insure you are doing the same.

The design- The vertical disc drive isn't the greatest design, but it causes no problems for me. The tiny computer also saves a lot of space on my desktop. It is nearly half the size of some of the other desktop computers.

The price- Perfect in my opinion. I compared this with many other computers, and I am not disappointed with it. Compare this with just about any other computer in it's price range and even more, and it is almost always better.

The Performance- Awesome. Seriously, this computer is fast and I haven't had it crash or freeze on me. I can run large games (such as World of Warcraft) very smoothly, and running other programs while doing that. I can run any application smoothly, and this makes the experience very nice.

Overall- The computer is fast, reliable, and a great bargain.

What's great about it: Price
What's not so great: Tech Service

"I have had this desktop for 3 weeks, it worked very well until the G100 video card stopped working, and I needed to use the integrated video card.
Send several e-mails to tech support, but I just got basic answers when they answer.........
This is the last ACER that I will buy, HP or Sony don't have that problem...go back.

Good value, No users guide   04/04/2009
By miker12925 from Minneapolis

What's great about it: Fast, quiet, compact
What's not so great: Vertical load DVD drive, No documentation

"After living with it for a month I have found this computer to be very fast, reliable, quiet and a terrific value. I apperciate all the USB ports. I really like the compact design. I highly recommend it if:
1: You can put up with the vertical load dvd drive. I find it annoying and impossible to use with my smaller diameter cd's without tilting it to the left. The cooling vents are on the right side and I do not see why it can't be left on its left side. I e-mailed technical support and they replied it is not designed to lay in its side and doing so will void the warranty.
2: The complete and total lack of documentation. Our other system is a Gateway and came with multiple manuals and reference guides covering everything you would ever need to know on setup, use, Windows, troubleshooting, even on how to open it up and upgrade components. This thing came with a pictoral diagram on where to plug different cables in and that is it. On the hard drive there is a users manual but it is 90% legal stuff and 10% generic stuff. I could not find a manual on their web site so I e-mailed tech support. 4 days later I was directed to a web page that documented their Empowering Technology software and nothing else. If you are an experienced computer user this is probably not an issue but if you are a first time user you may want to consider another brand like the Gateway.

excellent deal   04/03/2009
By Will1021 from Texas

What's great about it: everything you need
What's not so great: nothing

"Don't listen to the bad reviews, people, this is an awesome deal. Some of those other folks are talking about the wrong system anyway.
I build and work on PC's in my spare time, and I'm telling you, you can't beat this deal.
I shopped around for a new desktop, looked at barebones kits, thought about building from scratch, looked at online custom system sites where they will ship you a custom built PC, etc. For the money, you can't beat this. Why wait to get something through UPS? When you can just go down to best buy and grab the AX1700 tower. They have different set-ups with the same model number though, so look at it and make sure it's this one, the one for $479.99. 640G hard drive, Vista running 64 bit, so it actually uses the dual core 2400's,4 Gigs system RAM, 2.3 Gigs of nVidia video RAM... gigabit ethernet also by nVidia... so many features it blows my mind.
Playing City of Heroes with all the settings all the way up, still getting 15 frames per second in St. Martial flying around in front of the Golden Giza casino lol. Didn't lag at all at the Black Market in Cap au Diablo. Age of Empires 3 looks awesome too. Yes you can install it on Vista 64, just tell it to install the original game anyway, then the 2 expansion packs are Vista compatible, so it runs great.
So far I'm liking Vista, it has everythnig right where you need it and looks good, and has built in firewall and defense applications. This PC also comes with RealTek audio, it sounds great on my Labtec speakers, but now I want even better speakers so I can really crank it up lol.
I've had it about a week, and I'm still learning new things about it.
As for the person talking about having to get a low-pro video card, YOU WON"T NEED ONE. The motherboard IS a video card. Out of the box, like I said before, you got 2.3 Gigs of video RAM. nVidia G100 chipset.
Just lay it on it's left side with the vents and stickers facing up, get the purplish plastic adapter block and hook it up on the HDMI port at the top rear, and then plug your monitor's VGA cable into that and screw in the little thumb screws.(It does come with instructions, y'know) Hook up your power cord, keyboard, mouse, and ethernet cable. Turn it on. Go through the little setup process. Within 10 minutes you should be sitting back while it updates, then you're running.
As long as you are gentle with the front buttons and the DVD drive tray, it should last a long long time. If this PC ever does develop a problem, it would still be well worth taking it in to be repaired. Basically it's awesome, I put my hand on the back and it's cold lol. Yep, according to the monitoring feature (accessed up at the top of your desktop) my processor is running at 20 degrees Celsius. Nice. Oooh, dipped down to 19 for a second... now it's back up to 20. lol :)

Great desktop PC   03/24/2009
By PGHMike from Pittsburgh, PA

What's great about it: Small but powerful
What's not so great: Small and pratically zero expandability

"ok. Bought this after reading a few reviews online at various sites. seems some people like, some people don't. I liked the small footprint, solid metal chassis, and overall speed (when testing display model). So, took the risk and purchased. Owned for two weeks and so far absolutely love this PC. First thing I did was replace the low-profile modem w/ low-profile Hauppauge TV tuner (as this was going to be media center PC). Then, I burned restore DVDs as pre-installed software allows. Then I burned all folders on C: drive that had ACER in tilte (these folders actually have all the Vista drivers you'll need if doing bare metal install of Vista). Then I wiped the hard drive and installed fresh copy of Vista Home Premium using the license number afixed to chassis. No issue. Used the DVD I burned with ACER folders to completely install hardware drivers except for Hauppauge TV Tuner (done separately). No issue. Had to activate Vista by telephone. No issue. So, now I have an absolutely clean install of Vista which is blazing (let me tell you) blazing fast for media playing/creating. Absolutely love this desktop PC. Also purchased 2 year Geek Squad warranty just in case for $99. Not bad... Overall, I have to give 5 stars as I am not at all disappointed..."

What's great about it: Features, Construction, Space Saver
What's not so great: Nothing

"We bought this PC about three days ago and have loved it ever since. The hard drive is a perfect size for our family and the Windows Vista 64 bit edition runs pretty smooth. The processing speed is much quicker than our old desktop and has CD/DVD burning capability. The speakers are o.k but I would recommend replacing them for better sound. Overall this PC is awesome and perfect for anyone to use."

Don't believe the negative reviews!   03/21/2009
By Birddog29 from Houston, TX

What's great about it: Best cost - performance option!
What's not so great: Gloss black attracks dust

"I've read quite a few negative reviews on this system, and I would have to say after purchasing it anyway this is a great little computer. Every negative review on Best Buy's site is completely unfounded, and all are attributable to user error. The CD/DVD does not drop disks when loading or unloading. The reviewer who said they lost a disk inside the computer because of the tray design really is what turned me off on the computer, but after purchasing anyway I have had zero problems in this respect and actually find the design securely holds the disk when inserting and ejecting.....no fear there people. Also, some reviewers stated they had trouble getting a picture. The directions and adapters provided not only cover the various connection options to one monitor but also give the option of connecting a second vga monitor directly to the motherboard.....again, reviewer ignorance....Acer provided a DVI to VGA adapter to accommodate all types of monitors.

All and all I am very pleased with my purchase, this is a great system, it looks great....nice and small, its fast, quiet.......packs in a lot of performance for a budget computer.....512mb of dedicated discrete video ram is impressive at this price point. For the price there is not another computer out there with these specs.....its seems solidly built, contrary to other reviews....I don't normally write reviews, but if felt compelled as the negative reviews on this site really turned me off on this thing. You need to have half a brain to operate any computer....for one follow the directions, use commonsense, and look in the box for all the included hardware. Great computer...HIGHLY recommended.

Not designed well   03/20/2009
By ComputerShopper from Bloomingdale, FL

What's great about it: Very easy set-up, found all new hardware right away
What's not so great: Chewed up 2 dvds

"This computer was easy to install all peripherals; but while creating the system backup, the first 2 dvds were fine and the 3rd dvd failed. The dvd drive would not eject and made loud humming noises just prior to failing. The geek squad stated this computer was poorly designed. I returned the computer the next day and upgraded to the HP Pavilion."
