What's great about it: Speed
What's not so great: Wading through the review rats crapp

"Going to full 1080i video. Installed LD blu-ray. LOVE IT for $800 you gotta be kidding me. Massive rendering files that are flying now. I am trying to choke it down and can't slow it down by rendering with multiple HD video rendering software installs simulateously and WOW. Can't speak as to gaming though. Don't like that 64 bit may be a compatibility issue but as I don't have a problem yet I can't complain. At last Vsta is good for something thought we would get to Windows 7 without this product being good for anything. You see with enough SPs even Microsoft can get things right."

What's great about it: Pricepoint, CPU, RAM, Video card, Quiet
What's not so great: Could use some more up front USB access.

"I have had this computer for only 3 days, and I am very impressed. I was reluctant in purchasing a Gateway due to its past reputation with proprietary components, but I was assured that was no longer the case. I am glad I did not hesitate. This computer is FAST. With a quad-core processor, plus 8 GIG RAM, and the 1 GIG video card...watch out! I bought the system so that I could game and have the ability to upgrade. To be honest, I do not think I will have to upgrade for awhile. I can run graphics at max for WoW, and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. The only problem I can see...which is minor, is that it could use more USB ports upfront. If you need to plug in more than two components, you will need to use the ports in the back. That being said; I would definitely recommend this system."

What's great about it: Easily removed spare hard drives, fast, stable so far, whisper quite
What's not so great: Could have used 4 more USB ports, my PC is loaded with gear hanging off of it

"I was looking for a PC with some muscle, is reliable and is supported by American speaking personnel but at the same time for a nice price. I could have bought a Dell, but too many friends have had problemswith low cost items like fans, which are critical as total failure can result for $10 or get noisy over time. I opted instead for the Gateway because of their higher product quality and superior technical support. I was pleasantly surprised to find it came with several handy and cool features like removable hard drives cradles which can be pulled out/in without the need of any screws. Also they bundled backup software which works with the removable drives without any fuss - just press a button (or schedule for auto). They also included software which in a couple of clicks makes emergency restore CDs in the event the hard drive ever crashes or gets corrupted. I didn't know all of that came with it but in doing so Gateway validated that I made the right choice as I can't tell you how many other PC users have had to either buy or scramble around to restore their PC when it had problems. No sweat here with this system/

I have the machine loaded with high overhead programs and utilities that I could not run on my Vista Ultimate home build which has slower memory and less CPU horse power (not a quad processor). I have Skype, iTunes, Google Talk, Mcafee security suite, Snagit, Audible DM, Vista sidebar gadgets and a host of other programs, utilities and 9 usb devises running real time, all the time on this PC. I have had the PC a little over a week and have yet to hit the slightest speed bump which are typical for PCs running Vista. The processor and memory are well matched together.

In other words, I got what I paid for. A brawny and stable PC with more features than I had hoped for. This system is worth the few bucks more than Dell and other cheaper PCs in the upper middle/lower upper space for PC power and speed. Easy to use utilities I want for protection from crashes and viruses while still delivering on my need for speed despite everything I have loaded this system up with. Given what I was looking for this Gateway system is head and shoulders above all the others!"

What's great about it: fast, great features, great package price
What's not so great: QA sticker? what do you mean I can't open my case???

"I am incredibly pleased with this purchase. I got this in a package deal which included a 19" LCD monitor and Canon Pixma 3-in-1 printer. The package deal cost as much as the tower alone.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this computer even had more to it than I realized. My main concern was processor, graphics ability and RAM so when I opened it all up i was thrilled to find that it has 2 hotswap bays in the front and inside the case the hard drive bays are situated towards you for easy access.

This computer is fast, with lots of processing power. I am a big multi-tasker and this computer can handle it all with barely a dent in cpu usage. My two main games, Second Life (graphic intense)and World of Warcraft run terrific @ medium high settings or better depending on what you like to see for your fps.

The doors that hide the inputs do need a hard push to open and close and seem like they might break eventually, but as long as the connections hold from all that opening and closing, that is a minor issue.

The mouse is not ps/2 compatible, so you cannot use a ps/2 adapter to free up a USB. I suggest purchasing a usb hub.

The only real issue I have with this computer, which probably holds true for all Gateway pcs is the QA sticker that is on the back of the case. I'm sure removing this voids your warranty. That's just wrong. So if i want to add a second harddrive or faster RAM I can kiss my warranty goodbye?"

What's great about it: Amazing quality, and also amazing features that this computer has. Very, Very fast! and Games run pretty smoothly.
What's not so great: The Brain is sorta a hair magnet! We have like 6 cats, and cat hair is sticking on the front. Thats the ONLY bad thing.

What's great about it: Price, Quad Core, 8GB RAM, TV Tuner, 2 Bays in Front for SATA drives.
What's not so great: Hidden USB and media components hard to pop up/in. A little big.

"I've had this PC for over a month now (bought 4/15/09) and still love it. The reason I bought this computer is it has all the features I want. I love having 8GB RAM, a video card w/1GB, and tv tuner. The quad core is great! The thing that sold me on this pc were the 2 drive bays on the front. You just pull out the drive holders, pop in a SATA drive, push it in and your done. No opening the case or connecting cables.

I've read reviews of this pc getting hot, but I haven't had any issues and leave it up 24/7.

This PC has been great for video and pictures. I don't game, so can't comment on that.

My brother-in-law liked it so mutch that when their pc died they researched lots of different pc's and came to the same conclussion I did, this is the best PC for your $$.

The only bad things I've found is that the USB and media pop-outs are a little hard to push, so I leave them out. Also, I could do without Norton software and other trial software on the pc. No big deal, just un-install."

What's great about it: lighting start,Very quiet, excellent tv card, upgradable in many ways, very good video graphic
What's not so great: big case, the raid setup, remote, no hard drive activity, no media drive activity, no blueray.

"when i took this home from best buy, i was scare to death. after making some research, i decided to have it setup. the start was awe full. my experience with computer told me to give it some time. i was right.this baby is working fine. no inside fan except the CPU one guest what i let on for 24 hours no heat came out of it no knows just running smooth. i brought on Saturday for 779.99 the next day the same tower+ 22 inch hi def gateway LCD+ a canon pix ma mp240 for 885.99. i went back the store and add them to the package for the extra."

"I was very nervous getting this PC as the reviews are very mixed. However, a Best Buy employee said he just bought one and really loved it. The deciding factor for me was the front two HD bays. I really like having the capability of backing up or retrieving data from removable drives. Plus, I knew I could return it if I had problems from the start. When opening the box, I found the PC plastered with clear protective film. I realized that this could be a potential for creating ESD events and thereby causing damage to the PC. You would think the protective film is ESD treated, but I have no evidence it is. So, I avoided pealing this stuff off. I am going to wait for a humid day and when it is humid in my home to peel it off. I would recommend having the power cord plugged in both at the PC and the wall to ground the case when peeling it off. I wonder if peeling the protective film off is causing a lot of the dead PC's out of the box???

The sound quality is not great. I have some good creative speakers I really like, so I did not bother with the packaged speakers that came with the PC. I am going to put my sound blaster sound card from my old PC in my new Gateway PC. I do wish the USB ports and the media ports were on the front and not in the pop-up doors. I would like to see at least four USB ports on the front.

There does seem to be a little delay when opening certain programs. I read about this on Vista 64 bit reviews. However, The PC copies pictures from USB drives and media really fast.

So far, I am happy with it. I was hoping the sound card would have been better. I have not really tested the video card performance. But, I don't do much gaming, so I am sure the video will be fine for me. The PC is very quiet. I can hardly hear it running. The HD drive is very quiet too.

This is my second Gateway. My other one is about 4 years old or so. It is still running, but getting too overloaded with stuff. I loaded Photoshop 7 on my new Gateway PC and had no compatibility issues."

What's not so great: No Install cd/dvd's and of course VISTA

"Had a little trouble with the dvd took over 35 minutes to install
Sacred Fallen Angel.
Had to re-install then it corrected itself and installed in 10 minutes and the second install worked fine. Just a minor glitch.

Very nice system for the dollar. check for a package deal.
found out from the website 4 days after purchase they now have
a package for about 40.00 more you get a monitor and printer"

"Purchased from bb 03/09..used 1 week..turns off by itself..I have no system restore..Gateway has poor customer service.waiting on discs(they are on backorder who knows when I will get them) to wipe everything out and start fresh but I know I will have 2 send it back because of the comp turning itself off whenever. Has thing called raid for formatting 2 or more discs dont use unless you have 2 of them. I found out the hard way..Dont make same mistake. I just hope that once I do get discs and this thing is running right it may be a nice machine but thats the key RUNNING RIGHT Sorry Gateway you dropped the ball on this one. PS u will have a fun time finding label flash discs."

Excellent computer 05/25/2009

"This computer is very fast. I bought this yesterday to upgrade from my 11 year old computer that had a 756 MHz processor ( not even 1GHz or speed) and 256 mb of ram, so this computer is a huge upgrade from my old one. I was going to get the Dell desktop with the Core i7 processor but I found out that it is being discontinued.
When I got home with this and hooked it up it setup incredibly fast. I have had no problems with Vista and I actually like it better than XP. The Quad Core processor is amazing with each Core having 2.33GHz processing speed. The RAM is also amazing since there is 8GB of RAM, I could download or install programs and still have 7 or more windows open. The Graphics Card is great too, having 1GB of video memory it plays my games very well with no lag and with very impressive High-Def graphics, I'm not a hard core gamer but the few games I have are graphics intensive . The Hard Drive is awesome also, it has 640GB of memory and with all of the preinstalled programs it had about 590GB when I started using this computer. The DVD drive is great, but I plan to replace it sometime with an HD DVD/ Blu-ray disc player. There are plenty of USB ports for me to use. I've seen some bad reviews about this computer of people complaining about Vista or the computer itself. Each computer may or may not have something wrong with it so I understand those complaints. The people that complain about Vista either don't know how to use it, don't want to take time to learn how to use it, there could possibly be something wrong with it, or they plainly don't like it.

I hope this review is useful to anyone who decides to buy one or not to buy one."

"I just bought this computer5-24-09 got it home and it never did load up to windows and then it had beeping noise. Was very disappointed in this computer hoping to get to take it back and switch out for another machine or get them to make sure the other one works before we leave, because it is a 2 hr drive for us to get to the nearest best buy. I heard some many people on here now having problems out of them. Now I have an emachines too And I like it very well, really no problems with it, but my husband wanted something to run his games on that required alot of Ram."

"This computer is terrible. When we first bought it in Feburary of 09, the computer began shutting itself off. It had a bad heat sensor. Sent it off to Gateway, they (Best Buy) replaced it with a new one. Received another tower 2 days ago, 5-22-09, only now to discover that the CD/DVD drive is no longer recognized, the video card went out & had to be replaced, & the drive to copy DVD's & CD's from will NOT open. This tower is all around a piece of junk. We are returning our tower tomorrow, 5/25/09 & replacing it with an HP. I would NEVER recommend this tower to anyone."

great all around desktop for the money 05/21/2009

What's great about it: For the money - great cpu, memory and vid card
What's not so great: no restore disk, no case fan

"After doing some research and reading a load of the reviews in here. I bought the gateway and just so there would be no problems when I got it home and me being lazy I gave Geek squad $40 and they optimized it. I did this for 2 reason, one yea I am lazy and 2nd they have to fire the thing up to optimize it so if there are any problems its already there. So with that, when I got it home it was nice, no problems, all the junk was taken off and it was ready to go. I have a laptop with vista on it and it sucks, the Vista on this thing with the 8g of ram is actually nice, very quick response. I play eve-online and with graphics set to high I am getting 60 fps which is awsome for a computer that cost less than $800, and at 60 fps it runs really smooth. The only cons is that I had to contact gateway and have a restore disk coming since I was getting a error when i tried to do it and second it does not come with any case fans, only the cpu fan, vid card fan. So I bought 2 case fans a 120mm for the rear blowing out and a 80mm for the front blowing in. So she runs nice and cool. So overall this is a great desktop for what you get and compared to other desktops in the same price range you get much more."

Horrible Warranty / Support Service 05/21/2009

"I bought this computer because it was preinstalled...The only problem is that when I went into Media Center to configure my Tuner, it won't let me get the remote codes for my Satellite box without contacting "Tech Support"...That's all well and good except that Gateway will offer NO support in this aspect...UNLESS I PAY for it...This desktop is no more than 5 weeks old and STILL under warranty...It is COMPLETELY unacceptable that I should have to pay to get ANY support on a PRE-CONFIGURED machine...Heed my warning but another machine if you'd actually like to USE the TV tuner that is installed. Gateway REALLY needs to rethink their customer service stance."

What's not so great: Reading about everyone complaining, 400w PSU

"First, This Computer rocks.
Next, Everyone that is having problems with this computer, I bet most of you either have 1.) Lime wire or another dumb SW that gives you infections. 2.) Dont understand that Vista is not hard to use, and if you cant handle it go buy a mac... 3.) probly dont need an old program, like cad 2001 or w/e. Vista is fine, and you can have the power you get with this unit. So many people think they know computers, but they dont know squat."
