What's great about it: Full-featured....good value
What's not so great: Lower quality Li-MH rechargeable batteries
Cobra microTALK CXT90 18-mile walkie-talkies were purchased for use on a cruise vacation, and they performed surprising well on our large, Royal Caribbean Voyager Class ship. They have also met or exceeded Cobra's distance specifications for city & suburban terrains. All features work as advertised; the illuminated display is especially useful. Rechargeable AAA Ni-MH batteries are only 300 mAh each, but they will last for quite awhile with the automatic power-saving feature. At this price point, the CXT90 model represents a very good value.

What's great about it: Worked between numerous floors
What's not so great: Picked up communications from other users radios
Purchased for use on a large cruise ship. The ability of the radios to communicate between floors was good, even from the1st floor to the 12th floor. They held a charge well. The problem was so much interference picked up from other users of radios. It was too difficult to communicate with our own. We changed stations numerous times, but found no stations that we could hear each other on. In turn there was continuous talking from others being heard. We could not tell if it was from our own radios trying to talk to us, or stranger's radios communicating. Alerted time after time from other users alerting their own radios. We finally turned them off. These radios did not filter out other users and where just simply useless & annoying.

What's great about it: Price
What's not so great: Very low range, from one bedroom to another.
I purchased this for my kids and also to communicate in the city, my city is very small, and when I tried to communicate with my kids on the radio I could not do it within a one block range or around 300 ft, don't buy them! Don't waste your time and money. They are supposed to work up to 18 mile range and in the city like 2 miles but they don't!!!!

What's great about it: battery life, range, clarity
What's not so great: not water resistant
This walkie talkies seem to have a great range. They are crystal clear around the 30 feet range. I haven't really gone past that. I think these are a great value for the money. They come with rachargeable batteries, but I haven't used them yet. They seem to last a long time on regular batteries.

What's great about it: Good range, easy to use
What's not so great: Charging battery is a guessing game
I used these on a long road trip through the mountains with a convoy of 10 other cars and the signal held up pretty strong over a 5 mile range or so. They are easy to use, and you can lock the channel in place so you don't accidentally change it, which is nice. They beep at the end of the transmission so you know the other person is done talking, which is good for those that don't use walkie-talkies much. The only problems were that you have to push down the button to talk about 2 seconds before you start talking, and hold down 2 seconds after u finish talking otherwise the beginning or end might get clipped a little. Also, when you are charging these, it doesn't really tell you how much more battery needs to be charged, so you just have to plug them in a while and hope they are fully charged...it would be nice to have a battery indicator like a cellphone.

What's great about it: Low cost, Ease of Use
What's not so great: Range and clarity of conversation
For the price they are a great pair of radios. They are easy to use and set up...fairly basic models. The range is nowhere near the claims. We got reliable service within a few miles using the FRS channels. We also used them on a large cruise ship, and had coverage about 80% of the time...which was good due to the numerous decks and overall size of the ship.
