What's great about it: Mouse, Holder, Pen grip, multiple cables, design, scroll/zoom wheel, buttons, thinness, sleek, feel, pressure technology
What's not so great: prone to fingerprints, software is difficult to set up on certain platforms
I literally just upgraded to this tablet today, as my 3-year told Wacom Bamboo Pen tablet (that's so 'old' they don't sell my model at BestBuy anymore) died the other day. I do digital work for my AP 2-D art portfolio for school and the pen pressure and feel overall are just stunning. I pulled it out of the box about an hour ago, expecting to install the drivers and instantly start drawing, but I ran into a few problems. I'm on Windows 7 64-bit, and apparently the software on the included CD was designed for 32-bit. Fear not, though, I only removed the "preferences and utilities" setting from my laptop and immediately the pressures started working.
The tablet is rather big, considering the small working area, but makes up for it with its thinness. Seriously, the thing is SUPER thin! And light, too! Another nice thing I noticed was the plug. Instead of being permanently attached to the tablet, you can take it out..! The packaging also came with two cables, I'm assuming because it was designed ambidextrously but it's still nice to have a spare cable. The scroll wheel is amazing, and the buttons replace my left hand having to constantly rest on the keyboard to zoom, pick colors, and move my work. Now all I need is a space for my laptop and I'm good to work for a long time.
Something else nice about this tablet is the mouse. Again, for the small work space given, it's big. But it's nice. It's very comfortable in the way that it fits into the hand, and same with the pen. The entire thing is coated in spongy grip, versus my old pen (which was chewed by my dog) that was all plastic with no grip, and it gave me calluses for working too long. Another super cool thing is the cup holder thing for the pen. It has the tips inside of it!! It's really nice to not have to worry about losing all the tips or my dogs getting to them. The cup holds the pen rather nicely and is very sleek looking.
The only con to this tablet is the small left strip that contains the buttons and scroll wheel considering it's extremely prone to fingerprints. Seconds after pulling my tablet out of the small bag it comes in, I noticed how the fingerprints hit the light. They stick out a lot, but nothing a little lens cleaning kit can't fix..!
Overall, this is an EXCELLENT tablet and SO worth the money, and worth upgrading to if you're considering it! I plan on taking my art to a professional level, and I know that this tablet will accompany me for a long time.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Touch sensitivity
What's not so great: everything else...
I've had this tablet since my birthday almost 7 months ago. This thing is the biggest i mean BIGGEST pain in my but. i draw k-9s and stuff so i wanted a tablet with touch sensitivity for the fur. only 70% of the time it accualy works. Also it dosent always connect to the driver when i want it to. and when it dont i have to restart it.... just go with a Bamboo Pen insted of this...i had one and even tho it doesnt have touch sensitivity it wasnt a pain..it worked when i wanted it to. and when it comes to big projects i just cant stand this thing...i want to throw it in my box of shame but i gave my old tablet to my friend...

What's great about it: Smooth operation
What's not so great: Lousy tips and faulty drivers
I've had this tablet for roughly a month now, buying it after hearing people swear up and down Wacom tablets are the greatest thing in the world and yada, yada. But let me say its actually a big step down from my Genius G-Pen I used before this- a tablet that was also $120 cheaper. It worked fine until about two weeks after I got it. Now I have to uninstall the drivers, reinstall them, and restart my computer 20 times every time I want to use the thing. The design itself is decent, as I use the scroll wheel and keys often, though the power cord is a little impractical. The tips also wear down unusually fast. As I said, I've only had it a month and I've already gone through one and a half. (Maybe that's why it comes with 10?) That may be normal, though, I'm not sure. But on my Genius one tip lasted me a good year and some months. Overall, I'm rather disappointed in this tablet and I'm hoping all Wacoms don't give me this much of a hassle.

What's great about it: I like how sleek it looks, easy to install, easy to use, easy to operate
This is my first tablet but I'm very glad with my purchase. The free software downloads that came with it are excellent as well. I like that I can interchange the pen and mouse without having to change any settings.
The pen fits comfortably in my hand and even though I'm not left handed there is the option to change the orientation as well as to accomadate lefties with the usb port on either side of the tablet. The tablet is also very light and thin =O
I enjoy using it. I only had one driver issue but customer service was excellent with helping me resolve the problem.
I saw that someone said fingerprints get everywhere on it, in my experience with using my tablet that is not the case. On the side with the command buttons you can see some but it's not bad and really noticable unless your severe OCD

What's great about it: Great for illustrators if you can get used to the controls
What's not so great: support for the device, outdated drivers, price to value ratio, no wireless capability. running out of room for the rest
Let me start off by saying, I would be more forgiving if the support for this device was more comprehensive. But I had a lot of trouble getting the device to start working and couldn't for the life of me figure out why.
After searching for 30 minutes through the user manual and another 30 minutes on the support website i found the solution. Just in time too, because I was just about to throw this thing out the window out of frustration.
Apparently, the cd that comes with the device is not updated with the latest drivers.... hmmm, seems like they would make a big deal to alert the customer if they knew this was an issue. or at least have it prominently displayed on the support page.
Secondly, the controls for this thing is a little hard to get used to. The right click, left click is not very intuitive.
There is no support for people who use dual monitors. You basically have to use half of the device for one monitor and the other half for the other monitor. From everything I've read, Wacom has no plans to fix this issue.
For $200 dollars, I was expecting some wireless capability. Since this is just a glorified mouse, $200 seems a little steep for a wired device with such limited capability.
I'm not completely disappointed in the device, but let's just say, I'm underwhelmed.

What's great about it: Works well, great bang for the buck.
What's not so great: Poor quality cables, some software compatibility issues.
This is a great tablet with some minor flaws.
On the good side of the good / bad meter, the tablet itself works as advertised, the pen is easy to maintain, and the mouse works well.
Another great plus is that it comes "bundled" with the full version of Corel Painter Sketch Pad (it's a free download for registered Intuos4 users); this fact alone makes this pad a fantastic value.
As for drawbacks, let me start with the bundled USB cables, which are of exceptionally poor quality. Until you get yourself a higher-quality cable, you'll struggle with just keeping the tablet connected to your system.
If you want to use the "bundled" Color Efex Pro 3.0 Photoshop plugin (also a free download for registered Intuos4 users), be advised that it's incompatible with Photoshop CS5 x64; you'll have to reach out to Nik Software's support group for the correct package.
Finally, this is an artist's tool - while it's fine for general use, the mouse isn't responsive enough for gaming - so don't expect to replace your Razer gaming mouse with this rig.

This tablet has got on my last nerve. I have had it since December of last year, well I think it is done. The pen just fell apart on me. I have no idea what I am supposed to do to put it back together. I have tried and little metal pieces are coming off. The side of my tablet where it controls the brush size, zoom in and out etc. It doesn't work anymore. I love art work, and it's a big part of my life, yet I can't do it with a computer mouse. I really hope I can fix the pen. :(

What's great about it: Features and software for a low price, professional look and feel
What's not so great: Parts must be replaced often
This tablet is professional grade for a low price. However, the pen tips (nibs) and the writing pad have to be replaced over time for an expensive price. The pen tips do wear a way very quickly but several are supplied with the original package. The tablet also comes with some very good software which makes this an excellent buy.

What's great about it: versatility
i work cross platform (windows and mac os) and its perfect for both...what i like the most is the fact that you can customize the buttons for each app, is the small one but i think its more than enough i use it for video production, i know sounds kind of weird for video, but it helps me to keep me focused and keeps my hands at work and no back and forth with the mouse and keyboard

What's great about it: Everything! Get one! Even if it's "small"!
What's not so great: Nothing! The bad reviewers don't know squat!
This pen input device is a truly remarkable peice of tech. To think, it's only the entry level and smallest of Wacom's more sophisticated and professional line of products...
Ok, so I admit I was somewhat reluctant in purchasing the "small" version at first. But like most people I'm not made of money, so this was my only option at getting an affordable but quality pen input device. Once I unpacked it and started using it my fears were quickly put to rest...
First of all, even though it's called the "small" there really isn't anything small about it. I would say it's footprint is about the size of a notebook and it's actually the perfect size for the desk I work at. It's super thin though! Really that was the first thing that struck me when I unwrapped it, how thin it was. It was like some tech out of an alien spacecraft! Anyway, I digress...
On to the active drawing surface, which to me seems to be about the size of a large index card, maybe a little bigger. Before I purchased it I kept imagining I would end up drawing off the edge of a tiny active surface. You know, because it's the "small". But, since it automatically scales itself to the screen your working on you really don't have this problem and it's actually a plenty adequate drawing surface.
I was flabergasted to discover it recognizes the pen tip's presence before it even comes in contact with the pad's surface! The pen has no cord or batteries! Neither does the mouse! How does it do this!? Magnets? I dunno... All I know is it's incredible. There's that "alien tech" aspect again. LOL
The couple thousand+ degrees of pressure sensitivity are no joke. You can set the digital "brush" your drawing with to something like a number 2 pencil and then depending on how hard you press (or how light) you can make anything from barely visible scratch to a thick black line... or anything in between. It makes your digital artwork extremely varied, just as though you were really drawing or painting.
I think that digital artwork is the wave of the future. It makes making art SOOO much easier on you in every way! Not to mention greener! There is no mess in the form of pencil shavings, eraser dust, spilled paint, toxic chemicals, noxious fumes, trees cut down to make paper, pencils, and paint brush handles, etc... As people become more and more eco savy I think that digital art will become more mainstream and not just something used on the internet. I realize a lot of printed art was created digitally, but in the future I envision paper being left out of the equation more and more. I'm thinking large Digital canvases that hang on the walls of your home or in an art gallery (kind of like the digital picture frames already on the market), each one cycling through a different artist's work.
So anyway, don't be in the least bit detered by the "small" label or the fact that it has fewer buttons or whatever than the medium and large. It has every feature that the medium and large versions have and is not lacking in performance or usefulness in any way. It's plenty adequate for all your digital art needs and thensome! Get one!
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Good price
What's not so great: The design
I took it out of the packaging, and set it up. I noticed that the USB port design is for right handed people. I'm left handed, and the cable will have to be oriented around the tablet to connect to my computer, making it unnecessarily awkward, and constantly in the way.

This is my first graphics tablet. I went with the small because I was afraid it would be hard to use. I am getting use to it, but I am glad I went with the Wacom name. What's great about it: Very responsive, brilliant resolution and pressure sensitivity
What's not so great: Finger prints linger on the glossy side, certain functions don't work with older software
My previous tablets were the Wacom Graphire 4x5 and Bamboo and I have to say that I am very happy to have upgraded.
Some people say that you can barely tell the difference between the resolution/pressure sensitivity in the less expensive tablets and this one, but let me tell you that it is definitely there.
For any artist who must pay attention to the closest detail in their work you will be hard bent to try to find a better tablet than the intuos4 for this price range.
a very very good deal!

What's great about it: Works with vista and installating it was quick
What's not so great: Its way to expensive for me, and it was a little hard to use
I tested it out at my friends house, but when he told me the price I knew it would be impossible for me to get. Although, the Intuos tablet looked good and it worked well with my friend's vista computer, it was way to expensive and it was a little hard to use at first. There were especially too many buttons, he had only used 1 for an Adobe Photoshop hotkey, while all the rest were unused.
But aside from all that I would say that the basic bamboo or bamboo fun would be a greater deal than the Intuos tablet.

What's great about it: Everything!
This tablet is really wonderful. The feel is much better then the I3. The black surface - I just love it. It matches everything to my surrounding: black seat, black monitor/computer/mouse/desk.
Some reviewers say, due to the shiny plastic, it's fingerprint city! My answer is, that first of all, only the side (where the buttons are) is shiny. Second, if you don't use hand lotions, don't play in the dirt or fix your car engine just before you sit down to draw, you ain't getting fingerprints over it. At least I don't. Maybe I'm doing something wrong...
The little tip/pen holder is great. You get 10 extra different pen tips stored in the pen holder (five standard, one flexible, one stroke tip, and three hard tips). The flexible nib is very interesting, it has a little spring inside it.
The pen has a great rubbery feel to it. You get 2 USB cords in the box. First I thought it's a mistake. Turned out there's one cord if you use the tablet right handed, and another cord to use if you use it left handed.
I don't use the mouse, so I won't comment on that.
The built-in controls and on screen menus are just simply wonderful! If you program the radial menu, it will be overlaid onscreen and commands instantly available for selection from the ring. What's even better, is that you can designate a command (or multiple commands) in the radial menu to be sub menus. If you select that menu, new commands (that are inside that sub menu) will populate the circular ring. What a great concept!
The drawing pad has a different feel then the I3 series does. The I3s (Intuos3) has a very smooth surface feel to it. The I4 has more of a feel as if you are drawing on Velum (those half see through art papers). This provides a very realistic drawing feel to the whole experience.
The 2048 pressure levels definitely pay off. Although some older applications are only capable of recognizing 1024 levels. The pen can be used in compatibility mode as well. However, I turned off compatibility mode, and have absolutely no problem drawing in Photoshop CS4, ArtRage, or Painter 11. The pressure sensitivity is MUCH better than the I3 series (1024 vs 2048!). It recognizes absolute fine nuances to the pressure you apply to it.
You can assign 4 different settings/modes to the circular touch ring (even on the small tablet). When you press the middle button on the touch ring, you can cycle through 4 different settings. At every setting a little light lights up, so you know which setting you are currently at. For example, you can set setting1 for brush size, setting2 for brush hardness, setting3 for zoom in/out, and setting4 for something else. This way the touch ring has 4 different functionality depending on the current selection out of the 4.
All in all, I think this is an absolutely great tablet! If you thinking about upgrading, or you never had a tablet before but thinking about getting a professional level tablet, the Intuos4 is the way to go!
I would recommend this to a friend!
