What's great about it: easy to setup & syncs with Samsung TV
What's not so great: broke right after warranty ran out
It was nice while it worked, but there's no excuse for such poor quality that an $85 DVD player lasted barely a year.

What's great about it: Picture quality
What's not so great: Loud noises and disc reading error.
I haven't had this product a full year. After months it started making noises when loading a disc. Now it won't read my discs. I tried cleaning it out with what was recommended on the Samsung website and it still doesn't work. I even tries a laser cleaner and it still doesn't work.
The only redeeming quality was that it had really good picture quality.

What's great about it: Great Picture; Integrates with Samsung LCD
What's not so great: Doesn't last
I've had this DVD player for about 15 months, played around 20-30 DVDs, and it won't load any DVDs. It locked up on a DVD twice and then totally failed. I opened the case and tried to blow any dust away from the laser, but it doesn't make a difference.
Since the price on Blu-Ray players has dropped, I may buy one instead of another upconverting DVD player. But reviews on most of them also indicate that the build quality is poor.

What's great about it: Remote control is compact
What's not so great: Doesn't play MP3s well, scan has ridiculous settings
This is basically a cheap box. The designers cut many corners. Scan, for example, has 2x, 4x, and 64x speed. That means if you want to get through more than 20 seconds of DVD time, you go to 64x scan and all of a sudden you're chapters ahead or behind of where you wanted to be.
They did not focus on playing audio CDs at all. It's much more suited to DVDs. MP3 CDs didn't even play.
Also, the subtitles of new DVDs kept appearing and each time we put in a disc, we had to go to the menu to turn subtitles off. LAME...

What's great about it: Feature Loaded
What's not so great: Batteries needed to be of a better quality
Bought as a present for my younger sister. She had no problems quickly setting it up and it is feature loaded, especially the NexFlex & USB interface. Short of actually playing Blu-Ray, she said it functions beyond her expectations and got me the Big Brother thumbs up.

What's great about it: great price, easy set up
What's not so great: played DVD's when it wanted to; kept getting "no disc" error message.
When I purchased this for my sister for Christmas, I thought I had caught a good deal--turns out I was wrong. My sister had no problem whatsoever hooking the device up to her television, but the device itself was a pain in the a--.
It barely played any of the DVD's she used on it. For starters, whenever she would put a DVD in, the screen would read "no disc". However, she did get to watch "27 Dresses" on it, but the very next day, she put the same DVD in and got the "no disc" error message. We thought it was because she didn't have an HDMI cord, so we went out and purchased one, only to get the same result.
Samsung's customer service did not help at all either. My sister was told she would have to pay to send it off to their service center...even though she had only used it once. Needless to say, when it comes to DVD upconverters--do NOT use this Samsung device. We ultimately ended up returning it to Best Buy and purchasing the LG brand.

What's great about it: Great price, easy to set up, great picture
What's not so great: A bit particular about the disks it reads, remote is a bit lightweight
Bought unit to replace 5 yr old 5 DVD changer (also a Samsung). Remote is smaller and not as well laid out. Provides a better picture, but pickier about disks it reads - won't read some disks other player would. Very easy to hook up and use. Book doesn't cover how to turn off subtitles which come on each time unit is turned on, not a huge deal, but a slight irritation that I have to turn off subtitles each time. Unit is very quiet and came with all necessary cables and batteries. I'd buy it again and would recommend it. I sure don't understand the lower rating others have given it. I've found Samsung DVD players to be super high quality and this one is no exception. I highly recommend it.

What's great about it: The ONLY thing redeeming is that I purchased the combo with the surround sound speakers. We feel ok about the speakers
What's not so great: Everything ;( after 6 months.
After breaking once during warranty, it took weeks to receive the repaired product. Then less than 3 months later the dvd player broke again with the same problem, not reading discs. Oddly enough it was the best dvd player we had for about 7 to 8 mos. We are VERY pleased with our samsung 50" plasma, and have had it for over a year now, with no problems.
****Also beware, this dvd player is NOT compatable with any ipods or iphones. It comes with a dock and everything and we thought we were set, owning a few ipods. IT DOES NOT READ THE IPODS OR IPHONES> Also, the USB does not work although we didnt actually try either the dock or usb until at least 6 months after having the dvd player, so we kept it because we didnt feel like waiting more weeks to get it back again. We watch a lot of movies.

What's not so great: DVDs not as good as Blu-Ray, but hey - that's not the DVD player's fault. :-)
XBox 360 went on the fritz, so while Microsoft was repairing/replacing it, we decided to get a "backup" DVD player and got this one. In addition to the normal DVD player features, this one also has a USB port on the front panel that is supposed to allow you to plug in a USB device and play/view movies/pictures on your TV from it. I never got a chance to try it, but the theory is cool!

What's not so great: customer service- it's nonexistent!
I do not have this particular dvd player but within 8 months i have purchased tv and bluray dvd with surround around and had it installed by best buy. i have used the dvd player approx. 5 times and it broke down. sending it back and dealing with samsung is a complete nightmare! i am writing this as i have been on hold for a rep. for 28 minutes now! they are completely frustrating to deal with, they think nothing of having you uninstall everything you just paid to have installed and send it back, all at yourown cost! i sent the dvd back a month ago and they refuse to even look at it until i now send the speakers back which by the way are wall mounted! the speakers work fine! why is it so easy for a company to take your money but so difficult to get a problem resolved? by the way, still on hold!

What's great about it: nothing
What's not so great: fails after 1 year and no support
I have 2 Sumsung DVD players of two different models. Both failed about 14 months after first use. The failure is that both will not play any DVD and flash a message stating "Firmware Error". This is a design flaw Samsung does not address. Look at the web for "Thousands of complaints" without any solution. My suggestion is to buy another brand.

What's great about it: great pix & sound
What's not so great: Didn't play older DVD-R burned discs
After my CyberHome CH-DVD 300S finely died after years of faithful daily service, and already having hundreds of home-burned DVD-R discs, it was important to me to find a new DVD player that could play all these discs. Despite the specs, few players are capable. Both this unit and a Philips brand player I tried recently were able to play only my most recently burned discs. My older DVD-R discs, burned with an earlier Pinnacle Studio version and earlier DVD burner, would not be recognized. I returned the unit the same day.
