works great haven't had any troubles with it. the sound is really nice. the back cables are a little shorter than they should be but if your not trying to run them really far away from the unit they are fine. its very easy to setup.

I bought this setup last year and haven't looked back. Very good sound but the lack of wireless rear speakers could hinder your setup depending on your room's layout. I knew this going in though, so I can't hold it against the system. I also don't like that when watching a bluray movie, you can't operate your TV volume. Maybe it's only with Samsung TV's, but the surround sound basically takes over the TV and any volume adjustments only effect the surround sound. When using it for watching sports, etc....it's AWESOME! I love the combination of the TV + surround sound speakers working in conjunction. Makes for awesome sound.

What's not so great: Audio could be better
I have found out with experience that with the connection of the ethernet cable that the firmware updates are a breeze.Once you go to the menu and click on updates it takes less than two minutes. The only bad experience that I have come across is the audio is the high end with center speaker.Overall I have good experience with this product.

What's great about it: what you get for your money
What's not so great: Switching between DVD sound and TV sound with disc in tray
Bought myself a Christmas present December 2009. I wanted more than the sound from the TV so I figured, for the price, this might be good.
The sound is pretty good, much better than any tv audio and the Netflix streaming is awsome.
This system is easy to use but can sometimes be hard to get TV audio through it when there is a DVD in the tray. The system wants to automatically revert to DVD mode.
Since the TV only puts out 3:1 sound, I used the optical cable from my DVR Satellite Receiver to get full 5:1 surround sound for everyday TV viewing.

What's great about it: This system makes your HD TV channels sound amazing!
What's not so great: The rear speaker wires aren't long enough.
I bought this system in November of 2009 and haven't had any of the problems that the people in the other reviews have had.
It's been able to play every BluRay disc that I've put in it including Avatar and Wolfman and I've never had a Fireware update. I only use HDMI cables. I'm watching Comcast HD channels on my Samsung Plasma HDTV and I output the sound through this system with a digital optical cable and I'm now getting 5.1 HD surround audio from my HD channels on this system and it's amazing. I just watched the Lakers win the Finals in 5.1 HD audio through this system and it sounded better than any surround sound I've heard anywhere else. The bass out of the subwolfer is great and I turned it up so I have a lot of bass out of my TV channels. I also have my XBOX 360 output through this system with a digital optical cable and I'm getting true HD 5.1 audio while playing Modern Warfare 2 and it's blowing my neighbor's away.
The other reviews make me a little uneasy but everything has held up ok so far. The only negative I've seen is that the rear speaker wires aren't long enough which creates the need to buy the Samsung SWA-4000 Wireless Receiver Module which costs $100 or more.

What's great about it: Decent Sound
What's not so great: Poor customer service, bluray doesn't play newer movies, expensive accessories
This is a review everyone should read. I first bought this product about a year ago, and then had to pay another $80 for a wi-fi usb dongle, then another $150 for wireless rear speaker option, and it worked great. About 6 months after having it, was notified that an update was available, after update was installed, the BD player did not work at all. Had to pay for shipping to send it to Samsung, and was not given a "replacement" during the time that the BD player was being fixed (2 weeks). Once the BD player was returned had no problems until recently. It now will not play newer Blurays (i.e. Sherlock Holmes and Gamer). However, the alleged "lower end model" bluray player (Insignia brand) I have in my bedroom (which had an update out over a month ago) plays the movies just fine. When I called Samsung to ask for a solution for the problem, they essentially told me that I have to just be patient and wait for their update to come out, of which, they have zero idea when that would be released. So essentially they're telling me, the consumer, "tough luck, we don't really care that your BD player isn't doing what it was purchased to do, you have to sit and wait until we decide to get our act together with an update, even though other companies already have". One would think that such a high-end company like Samsung would be in close communications with BD manufacturing companies long before any bluray disc would be released that wouldn't currently work on their products. It is certainly not hard for Insignia and other companies to do.

What's great about it: Easy to set up
What's not so great: Stops working in middle of movies
Shortly after Product was purchased in January, 2010 after extensive research, the system stopped playing in the middle of movies. Repeated calls to Samsung over past 4 months has resulted in firmware repair solutions twice. Now without the ability to view dvds for a third time in 5 months, Samsungs current solution is for us to pay to ship the product back for a third attempt at repair. My recommendation - stay clear of this product at all costs.

What's great about it: nothing
What's not so great: Samsung
I purchased this unit Nov 29, 2009. The Blue-Ray starting freezing up in April 2010. I sent it back to Samsung. During shipping, it unfortunately got damaged. The damage had nothing to do with the internal problem. Samsung refuses to warranty it at all. They say it's not fixable. Not true. They don't want to deal with the defective product. It has had gliches since day 1. I tried to work them out. For example the remote has never worked right. I thought it was me not having it programmed right but after reading other reviews, I recognized that it wasn't me. My unit unknown to me until recently has been at Samsung now for over 2 weeks. They said they tried to contact me. Once again not true. They had no problem contacting about the damage that occurred when it was delivered to them and they had no problem getting it delivered back to me. They are not taking responsibility for their defective product and I'm out over $500.00. It took me many months to save for this system. It's very dissapointing that Samsung will not do anything about this problem. I'm going to continue fighting them.

What's great about it: It is a decent surround sound system for a budget product
What's not so great: Many Blu-Ray movies just don't work
I purchased this player in Nov. 2009 and it has been great until the past few months as new movies were released. The surround system is good for a budget system, and also the Pandora, YouTube, and NetFlix feature are really nice. However, The Blu-Ray player has very poor support. Samsung says that they release firmware every 3 months for new titles, but it took nearly 9 for the one release at the end of April, and that won't even install.
The system won't update. There was a firmware released at the end of April, but when I choose the update feature on the player I am told that I have the latest version. Going to the system information link showed that I was running firmware from August 09, which makes sense since I never upgraded before.
So, I downloaded the firmware from the website. Samsung offers an option to upgrade via USB. I extracted it to the root folder of the USB drive and the system can't find the update. I can browse pictures from the drive so I know it can find the device.
The Bluray player is the reason I chose this system, and that doesn't even work half the time. Other than this [major] defect, the player is nice.

What's great about it: Great for dvd
What's not so great: Doesn't play blu-ray
This player is great for playing dvds, going on youtube, pandora internet radio and the like, but it doesn't play 75% of the blu-rays that we've purchased. It always says that it needs an update, then when you go online you're told that the update isn't yet available. I just bought Avatar on blu-ray and couldn't even watch it! I still don't hate the player, just want it to work how it should.

What's great about it: Eas to set up, price (on sale) was reasonable, and it looks awesome!
What's not so great: Controls are a little awkward, speaker wires could longer.
This system was so simple to set up, any one who can plug in an outlet can manage it. I had this up and running in 30 minutes (the majority of the time was taken up by routing speaker wires over the ceiling and through the walls).
I have this in combination with a 63" Samsung Plasma TV (in a basement living room) and I couldn't be happier with the picture, performance, sound, etc. In fact it's so powerful that I can only run it at 18 or it's just too loud to watch a movie (it actually rattle's the house). For music you can go louder!!!
The location of the controls is awkward. Because they are set on the top of the faceplate you can easily bump buttons unintentionally, or when it's in a home entertainment center you can't see them at all and have to go by memory (lighted buttons would probably help). The speaker wires could be a little longer considering this is a "surround sound" system and you have to be able to route wires to the back of a room. I was just able to make this work in my room but if it were any deeper I would have been in trouble (considering I had to run wires over a drop ceiling).

What's great about it: Netflix streaming, nice look
What's not so great: Poor button placement, still units dying after 6 months
I have a Samsung LCD TV and had a matching Samsung Blu-ray player. So I decided to upgrade to a full surround sound system and give the old player to my sister since this comes with a Blu-ray player that also runs the audio system. Whoops. Two days after I bought it and after just 6 hours of use, I started having a problem. The Blu-ray front display stops with LOAD showing (with or without a disc in it) and the TV screen freezes with random pixels. I Googled this error and found that this product has been experiencing this problem since sometime in September 2009 when Samsung put out a firmware update that effectively turned these players into paperweights. I would have thought that now, more than 6 months later, in March 2010, it would be resolved. This is not the case. Avoid this system and all the disassembly and unwiring that comes with it when this happens. Maybe you'll get lucky, but is it worth the trouble when there are so many other systems out there to choose from?

What's great about it: easy to setup, good price
What's not so great: flashes back and forth between picure and snow for dvd and internet content...
I think the unit could be good unit if i could make it work. The set up was easy and straigtforward. The set up has to be as follows
1. HT has one hdmi output port which connects to the hdmi port on my westinghouse tv
2. cable tv box has one hdmi port that connects to the TV
3. Audio from cable tv box connects to HT using red/white wire pair.
4. Remote control for the HT cannot be used with a westinghouse TV... the code is not in the book.
5. Internet is connected thru my router using an ethernet cable.
When i am in the setup menu.... I see the menu/tv snow flash back and forth.
When I am playing back a dvd.... i see the picture/snow flash back and forth
when i turn on the TV using its hdmi port 1 connected to the cable tv it works fine, then when i turn on the HT system it forces output on the hdmi cable to the tv (connected to HDMI port 3) even there is no dvd in the unit and blacks out the tv. i have to force the tv to back to HDMI port 1 to connect back to the cable box..... the family does not like this at all.
When i called samsung, they said that the HT appeared defective or not campatible with the westinghouse tv..
I sent to BB and explained the issue the sales rep... he too thinks that the unit is defective as it should not flash. So i will be taking it back on 3/21/10 unless i learn that I have configuration issue that can be resolved.

What's great about it: Sounds great, looks good, price was right.
What's not so great: Subwoofer isnt powered.
Great surround sound, the blue ray player is a nice bonus. The blueray player even makes the regular DVD's look better. The only thing I wish this system have was a powered sub, it doesnt hit as hard but you can still hear the bass. It also has a IPod dock which is really nice, one less thing to worry about.

What's not so great: Blu-ray does not eject and ipod function does not work.
This unit looks great but it's short on quality. After settign it up and watching one blu-ray movie the problems started. The open/eject does not work, it displays open on the player but nothing happens. Also the IPOD function does not work. There is no speaker adjustment without stopping the movie. And no advanced advanced sound settings or presets.
Of course I now have to deinstall the entire system to return it.

What's great about it: Anynet+, Crisp sound.
What's not so great: Only 1 HDMI input and no connection to rear-speaker wireless generic devices
I used to have the old version of his exact HT, bud with DVD. It is a change from sky to ground, positively. I haven't been able to connect to Internet yet, but I can't wait. It would be nice to be able to connect my Rocketfish rear-speaker connector that I had with my old HT, but this one requires you to buy the Samsung one. I'm not sure, but it seems that the card for the rear-speakers is not sold enymore.
