Solid TV with a great picture. I bought it on a special package deal with a home theater system just before Xmas 2009. Took me a while to figure out how to hook up all my equipment the best way but I finally did and am VERY

I looked on the Samsung website the other day an noticed a release of new firmware in Late Feb for this model TV so I downloaded it to a USB memory stick and pluged it into the back of the TV and followed the on screen menu to update. Worked like a champ.

I had Cable with HD when I bought this TV 3 weeks ago and ever thing seemed very good. But I am telling you that I just had DirecTV installed this weekend and WOW. The picture is just awesome. Do Not waste your money on a 1080P TV. I have several neighbors that have LCD and Plasmas with 1080P and when they saw the picture on my TV this weekend they are kicking themselves for spending the extra money. If you do your research everything will tell you that if you sit more that 10 feet away from your TV you can not tell the difference between 1080 and 720. That is so true, just ask the sale people at the store. The color and contrast on Plasma just can not be beat.

I owned a 42 in smasung plasma... and now i have upgraded to a 50in. i was impressed first by the vivid colrs, fast motion reproduction, ample input offering and the clarity of images. i spend 1 month looking at lcd plasmas and leds...and found the plasma to be the best buy all around. im happy and you will be also.

What's great about it: Good picture, big screen, very good value for money

I had this TV for ~4 months now. No compaint so far what so ever for the $800 I paid especially it came with a Samsung Home Theater as the BUNDLE deal.
Like others had mentioned, this is 1080p TV but not 720p althru the quality is as good as a REAL 1080p. But to be honest, who can really tell the different between these two when you run a normal DVD and cable TV???
I like all the aspects of this TV and sound is acceptable to me and what to complain when it comes with the home theater as FREE GIFT to compensate it relatively poor sound quality.
The only precaution that you might need to take note especially for a new Plasma TV owner like me is on its image retention or temporarily burn in effect. I had been using this TV to watch some online TV thru my newly built computer with a screen ratio of 4:3 and just this week, I saw two vertical lines started appeared on the screen. Called up Best Buy and the technician came right after the next day for checking. Again, what can I say more with this kind of excellent after sale service??? Upon checking, the technician had told me to run the built in scrolling program that come with the TV. After few hours of running that program, I see significantly improvement on the image retention effect, it is not that obvious as before :-)
Another advice, try to lower the constract and brightness level of the TV for the first 200-250hrs in order to get thru the break in period, this is another tip that I learnt from the technician.
All in all, I am very happy with my purchase as welll as the after sale service from Best Buy. Definitely will buy from BB again next time :)

This Tv is very nice, especially for the low price. The picture quality is great, the only thing i dont really like is that the sound is very quiet, we only watch tv with the surround sound on now. We were very hesitant to buy this TV, because we did not have HD at the time, and the salesperson told us the picture quality would suck basically. Which was odd coming from someone trying to sell us a product! We got it home and even without HD it looks great, a little more fuzzy than with HD, but not anything noticeable. We now have HD and it couldn't be better!

What's not so great: Only thing about plasma is the reflection when watched in the daytime. Better in a dark room. At night; WOW.
great product. i recommend to anyone who is looking for a great picture and not concerned about a glare from sunlight. Not a problem definetly at night when the sunlight is gone. Regular room light really has no effect. For the price it definetly was worth it. I caught it on sale for 799.99. Thanks BestBuy.

This is my first HDTV of any kind. I had a 32" standard TV before this. Im mentioning this so you'll understand my points of view. I did A LOT of shopping and research before this purchase and was resigned to the fact that for under $900.00 i would have to get a 42" or less. So when the clerk showed me this TV i was VERY interested. I asked about it only being a 720p instead of a 1080P and the clerk told me that the other TV's next to it were 1080p. It only took a second of viewing to realize that I could see no difference in the picture quality. For $799.00 i pulled out my wallet and bought the TV.
THE GOOD: The picture is GREAT. I upgraded to HD and was very happy. The ease of setup and menu control was nice. I play Video games about 10hrs a week and expected to have some lag but could see NONE. (FYI. If your planing to play games on this TV it is advised to get the HDMI or Component hookups for your gaming system.) A buzzing sound has mentioned in other reviews but i have NOT heard it at all.
THE BAD: I hesitate to mention it because its not bad at all. The dreaded "BURN IN" The first week i had the TV i curbed my play time to under an hour each session. I saw no burn in so i gradualy increased my play time and still saw no burn in. BUT I left a game on pause for about a half hour one time and saw the faintest hit of burn in. The "screen scubber" that you can find in the menu took it away instantly. Bottom line is.....Be aware that burn in can happen. If you leave a static image on for an extended time then burn in can happen.

this is my 1st television and its awesome , very big screen and fair price. , the Samsung brings quality picture and sound , for an affordable price . The screen size is massively big. The viewing experience is much better with this television then and others my friends have , that cost more and are smaller in size

Bought in Dec '09. Used for 3 months. Picture quality in HD TV is really good. Picture quality in Blu-ray is really REALLY good. Picture quality in standard tv is fair to poor. Bottom line from my experience...if you are going to get a tv 50 inches or bigger, better get HDTV, because standard tv looks good on my 42" plasma but not so good on this 50" plasma. Standard tv is slightly blurry on this 50".
Colors are very accurate in HD material and the picture is very crisp. I used to love Panasonic plasma's a few years ago and now I despise them. The 50" Panny I bought (and quickly returned) just before this Samsung had a pale green hue no matter how many control tweaks I did, colors were dull, and the picture was grainy, even in HD. Very disappointing, so I took it back and got this Samsung and the colors are way more accurate and have more pop. There is no graininess in the picture of this Samsung like with the Panny.
Cons: the screen bezel is cheap plastic. It looks fine, but when you push on the TV to rotate it, the TV flexes and creaks like cheap plastic. It is also wobbly on its stand but it does stand straight and the swivel is a bonus I like. The cheap plastic bezel is not a deal breaker for me, but my other plasma made by HP from 5 years ago is WAY more sturdy...thicker glass, stronger frame, sturdier base, nicer bezel. Of course it also probably weighs 30 more pounds despite being smaller, but at least the HP is built to last. You will have to be delicate moving this Samsung around.
Buzzing: the screen buzzes louder as the picture gets brighter. This is probably my biggest beef with the tv. If you are watching a normal tv program, you can't hear the buzzing because the tv's sound will drown it out, but if the sound is muted or low, the buzzing will be there in a somewhat bright picture. This is not a deal breaker for me because there aren't many other choices of plasma tv's to go with otherwise. I don't do LCDs.
The tv's remote works but is often not very responsive when trying to adjust control settings.
The speakers are okay. They get the job done if you aren't picky, but if you value good sound you will have to hook up a sound system as with all tv's it seems these days. My HP plasma has 6 built-in speakers and the sound is excellent. TV's these days just seem to be made as skimpy/streamlined as possible.
The redemption of this TV is that it delivers where it matters most. The picture quality in HD material is all around excellent. I don't know of any other plasma screen that is as good or better. My second choice would be the Insignia panel. It's shortcoming is that it has more glare than I would prefer. Pioneer plasma's are in a totally different price league and not manufactured anymore from my understanding. Panasonics have the worst picture quality, in spite of the hype they receives from online reviews (living on past glory). LG's picture is average. Samsung is the only panel left that gives an all around good picture.

I have had this TV for about a month now and the picture quality is awesome. I previously had a big rear projection TV and this Samsung picture blows the old TV away! I saw this plasma hanging on the wall at Best Buy next to an LCD that was almost $2,000 and the picture quality on the Plasma beat the LCD. I also have the TV facing a wall of windows and so far I have not had any problems with glare. As with most flat panels the sound quality is lacking somewhat but I also purchased a Samsung sound bar and subwoofer so that really beefed up the sound!

I have had this TV for a week...so far no complaints....If something happens later I will write another review. I too researched, and heard all the horror stories of plasma and burn in, but for my budget this was by far the best picture for the price and with the warranty of replacement for 4 years...you can't go wrong. I too have LCD tv: Sharp Aquos 1080, 120hz and a Panasonic 1080, 120hz. And guess what this blows them away. They will tell you that the 1080 is needed for blue-ray and some games, but I honestly don't see much difference in picture, almost undetectable. If you are budget friendly and would like a big screen with a great picture, buy this TV, add in the extra warranty and sit back and enjoy!

After reading all the great reviews for this TV and comparing the specs, I decided to purchase it. The picure is absolutely amazing- the colors are vivd from a wide spectrum, and the blacks are black! There is almost no motion blur during sporting competitions. I can't particularly tell the difference that this is not 1080, because the picture is so amazing and I uprgraded from a 36" tube television. However, deep down inside, I wonder if I should have paid an extra 200 bucks for the 1080. Nevertheless, I am convinced for the money this Samsung is the best buy Plasma with 720 for the price.

i was told that plasmas are not worth the money and that the LCD/LEDs,were are better buy but after research and reading about a hundred customer reviews I decided to choose a plasma.Not only is the price range affordable but the picture quality is so much clearer.I love this TV! It was worth every penny! Exceptional picture quality, sound is ok but that can be easily fixed with a SS. Just to err on the side of caution, I would recommend everyone use the sleep timer at night just to avoid any "problems" in the morning.

Let me guess - you are tempted to purchase this TV due to the price, but you are unsure about plasma versus LCD. I was the same. Well, stop researching and worrying and buy this TV right now! We have 3 flat screen TVs. A 37" Magnavox LCD, a 32" Insignia LCD, and this Samsung 50" plasma. The Samsung blows away the other two for picture quality. There is no comparison. This plasma is so much clearer than most LCDs I researched. Extra benefit - the standard definition channels look WAY way better on this plasma than on the LCDs. You sometimes hear that plasmas suffer from glare due to the glass face. I have not had that problem at all. To put it simply, this picture is perfect. Seriously, I can't imagine how it could be any clearer or crisper. The only (minor) complaint I have relates to sound, which is why i gave sound 4/5. The sound is good. The only problem is that you may hear a very slight buzz if the room is completely silent and there is no sound playing on the TV. It's might be due to my cables or Dish box, i'm not sure. I haven't experimented because it is so minor, I almost never notice. I paid $799 for this TV, and practically every week my family says "Wow, this TV looks so awesome. I can't believe we have this TV." Every time I watch this TV, I am glad i bought it and we've had it for like 6-8 months. You won't be sorry.

Our big screen tv was flooded along with our basement.
Husband and kids enjoy tv. 50" is large, picture is good., prices was very reasonable for this size of a tv, however, TV's whether they are small or huge...are time wasters.

We wanted a great tv for a great price and we got just that! The tv is huge! I've compared it next to a tv with 1080 and honestly the differences are negligible. The quality of the picture is fantastic! I've seen some of the reviews on here regarding the sound, but I have no complaints. I actually have to turn it down on occasion so my neighbors don't hear me on the xbox! It's great for movies and games, or if you're just lounging watching a little tv. I don't know how someone can burn an image into the screen...I've had no problems, and don't leave an image on for too long. I also like the glass screen as apposed to the LCD screen. Even with the shades open, I can't really see any glare. If you're looking for a great tv for a great price..check this one out. It's definitely worth it.
