What's great about it: Price
What's not so great: HDMI SIGNAL BLINKS IN AND OUT
"Did my research, then caught this unit on sale @ BB. My only issue thus far is when using HDMI, gold plated cables(no, not monster brand), connecting cable box to this unit...then this unit to TV. ..the audio signal does not hold...it blinks. This creates a jumpy audio signal...not smooth. Hoping someone here can provide a 'fix' for me, before I disconnect at bring back for another.
thanks"

What's great about it: Everything and HDMI Upscaling
What's not so great: Nothing - Maybe HDMI CEC Control learning curve
"Very high quality unit, equal or better to my last $2000 Yamaha unit. I got rid of the $2000 unit because this one did HDMI switching AND HDMI Upscaling! For a great price, this can't be beat!"

What's great about it: Many different features and the included microphone for automatically setting up surround sound
What's not so great: For the price, nothing.
"As the headline says, if you are looking for a quality receiver without spending a fortune, this is the one for you. I wanted a receiver with 4 HDMIs and this was probably the least expensive one I could find. The sound quality is very good, the picture quality is very good, and it comes with a microphone for automatically setting up your surround speakers. Can you spend more an a receiver? Yes. Can you get a receiver with many more features and better quality? Yes. Can you get one for 350 out the door? No."

Yamaha makes home run

What's great about it: Sound Quality
What's not so great: Lack of Cable Box Control
"This is a very good component for my home surround sound that I set up just recently. I had 5 perfectly good Bose speakers so I went with an AV receiver instead of a home surround system. I had a 23 year old Pioneer that served me nicely but it was only 2 channel so I upgraded. I bought a Pioneer but the tuner was bad right out of the box so I took it back and after some research bought the v465. The sound quality is so good and separation of channels is so distinct that my wife and I are constantly looking around to see if it is raining, or some one came in the back door when it was actually a separate channel on the TV. I thought there was a cricket in the house the other night while watching a Discovery Channel on insects. One problem is that when the cable box is hooked up to an input HDMI port you have no way to change the channel on the cable box that will in turn change the HDMI port on the TV. I had to end up buying a Harmony 510 universal remote which is an excellent solution by the way even though it was hard to pay $100 for a remote when I have five sitting around. The set up is easy but you must have all speaker connected when you do the auto optimize speaker adjustment or you get an error, but over all very easy. HDTV 5.1 broadcast sound is as good as DVD sound. Good luck."

What's great about it: easy setup, great sound and great value for a mid range receiver
What's not so great: nothing really, for what it is.
"the automatic sound setup with the microphone works surprisingly well. It is a good compromise of sound quality and options for the price."

What's great about it: hdmi useage
What's not so great: takes a while to get sound where you want it
"This is a great reciever set up is as simple as Ive seen. Takes a lot of the mess of wiring multiple componets together by connecting them with just 1 wire.Only downfall of this reciever is not really a downfall I would just recomend reading the owners manual before you try to adjust the sound as this is a little difficult to figure out compared to yamahas older recievers."

What's great about it: Ease of set up, excellent speaker management
What's not so great: Component compatibility issues
"My old JVC bit the dust so after a bit of research, I picked this umit. For the money, it's not a bad investment. Plenty of HDMI and other connections, you get sufficient bang-for-your-buck value.
I like being able to identify differen channel formats the way I want.
Speaker management is an involved process, but well worth it once you get the hang of Yamaha's procedure. Important to me as I live where neighbors are close by and surround sound having the capacity it does to wake the dead during action sequences. I simply backed surround and subwoofer speakers off a bit while keeping center and mains at a manageable level.
Blue-Ray delivery isn't as good as I had hoped even with HDMI. I think this is more a case of an entry level Blue-Ray player, though. Some of my older components are not liked real well by this receiver, but all that says is that I need to upgrade across my audio/video platform to better match the current and developing technologies which seem to change by the month.
Soon, I'll be upgrading to a 55" Samsung 240 htz widescreen TV and other components. This Yamaha unit will end up in the master bedroom with a 37" flatscreen and not as many A/V components as the main system. I will probably upgrade to Yamaha's next higher unit to drive the main system."

What's great about it: YPAO sets up the speakers with ease
What's not so great: Nothing
"I bought this because my old Phillips wouldn't play DTS or Dolby TrueHD. The sound is amazing compared to regular 5.1 suround you get from dvd's. I felt like I was in a theater. Speakers for this are Polk Audio PSW-111 Sub and the satelite speakers from the Phillips. Sounds Fantastic!!! Next are Polk Audio satelite to complete my system."

What's great about it: 4 HDMI Inuputs and very easy set up
What's not so great: Remote does not illuminate nor do buttons glow in dark
"This product is very easy to set up. The included calibration probe is a great feature! In use with a 50" plasma insignia and insignia 300w speaker system and it sounds fantastic for the price. The 4 HDMI inuputs is one thing I was looking for. I have my HD cable, Xbox 360, PS3, HD media Player and Wii hooked up with room to expand yet! Features exceed my expectations. My only gripe with this system is the remote that they include with this receiver, the buttons are small and do not glow or illuminate which makes it a little more difficult to find the correct button. Over all a great buy."

What's great about it: fantastic power and features for the price
What's not so great: can sometimes be tricky to program
"This is one of the best deals for receivers out right now. With its 4HDMI in and 1HDMI out, 105Watts per channel, and wide range of sound capability, this receiver really sets the bar. I used to have a HK receiver, and yes, that was probably easier to configure than this one. However, the capabilites for this receiver are much higher than it's competition. As this is my first Yamaha product, I am more than satisfied."

What's great about it: Easy to set up
"Unit is simple to set up and like the included microphone to set up the 5.1 speakers. Found speaker issues during the set-up tests and made corrections on phasing-wiring. Unit seems to be of usual high Yamaha quality and makes sweet sounds. This Yamaha replaced a comparable Sony receiver that I never could really get set up properly. So far I completely enjoy this receiver and feel it is a great value for the cost."

What's great about it: 4 HDMI inputs
What's not so great: Not all speaker connectors use banana clips
"I waited for this unit to go on sale. When looking at it in the store I noticed that it didn't have banana clips for all speakers. It has them for the fronts, but not the center or surrounds. Really. It has instead the old school push in and pinch clips. That is so 1980's. I was upgrading from a Kenwood unit because I needed/wanted HDMI. This unit has that covered, but these speaker wire connectors will probably cause me to return this unit. I can't even get my high quality wires in the connectors. Otherwise I'm happy."

What's great about it: DTS MA, Dolby Tru HD for 5.1
What's not so great: confusing remote
"if you are looking for an entry level receiver to use with 5 speakers as a new system or upgrade from an old system then i highly recommend this, best of all it decodes all of the audio codecs currently on the market for blu ray"

What's great about it: Automatic Speaker Set-up
What's not so great: Connection Parameters
"I got this unit after my old sony reciever croked. Go figure. I really like the price of it. With all my new HDMI connections its just as good my old one broke as it lacked any HDMI inputs and I had to switch the TV input as well everytime going from PS3, HD DVR, and Wii. This unit has plenty of HDMI inputs and then some. With that said I had a real hard time hooking up the Wii. Seeing as the Wii doesn't have HDMI outs and only component it posed a problem. The unit will not switch from the PS3 to the Wii and still output through the HDMI cable going to the TV, it has to now output through component so again I'm back to swithing the TV input to play the Wii. Not bad though considering the remote that came with the unit does a good job as a universal and controls most functions of my TV. It was kinda of a challenge trying to figure out how to hook-up the Wii w/ component video and analog audio. Have to tell the unit to route the audio to a specific video input and when finished the Wii is only accesed by selecting an audio input. Weird but it works i guess. Doing the room and speaker setup was easy and some what fun using the supplied microphone. A feature i think every reciever should have from now on. The unit does not have an on-screen program guide which I think would make set-up so much easier. All in all this reciever is a bang for your buck."
