This is a very reasonably priced and versatile home theater receiver. I have it hooked up to a 55" HDTV and 5.1 Acoustic Research sound system. Blu-ray Discs look and sound fantastic as do DVDs.
It was easy to set up and took about 20 minutes making the various connections to the speakers, tv, and blu-ray.
The keys are typically small on the remote and it is not backlit for night time use. However, I was able to program it for my tv, blu-ray and satellite receiver.
What's great about it: Fine value, great for home theater system

All in all this is a great receiver. Pretty easy to setup using the YPAO feature. It's not perfect and I did have to do some manual adjustments to the speaker config, but YPAO gives a place to start and makes life easier.
The only feature that I found lacking was up-conversion from component video to HDMI. I still have a DVD player that uses component video output and had to run an extra component video cable to the TV. Not a big deal...
What's great about it: Good sound quality, easy set up.
What's not so great: No up-conversion from component video to HDMI.

Going from older Sony amp with 1 HDMI and 1 Optical input to 4 HDMI & 2 Optical inputs I can run the same HDMI out to a HDTV without having to downgrade either HD Video in or BlueRay to component video out with digital Optical sound. The 2 optical inputs make it practical to upgrade CD player to digital vs. analog.
What's great about it: 4 HDMI and 2 Optical inputs
What's not so great: Bass out is only pre-amp level. Needed to add a powered sub-woofer.

Seems to be very current with the types of inputs/outputs/decoders. The "auto" settings for the various options have worked extremely well.
Good value for the money.
What's great about it: Easy to set up. Works extremely well.
What's not so great: The auto-speaker setup said the speakers erroneously were out of phase.

gonna keep this short and sweet. if u are looking for a top quality receiver, but are looking to save some money, this is the way to go. i have this paired with two definitive technology bi-polar left/right speakers, definitive technology pro center 1000 center speaker, definitely technology pro 800 subwoofer, and two less expensive surround speakers. lets just say movie night is now at my house!! the sound is so crisp. my receiver has my ps3,directv, dvd player, and xbox going to it, and the one hdmi cable going to the tv, perfect!! u will be very happy with this purchase, i have already recommended it to a few people who have also gone out and bought it. i am truly a happy customer.
What's great about it: PRICE, EASY TO SET UP,4 HDMI PORTS
What's not so great: NOTHING YET

If you're looking for an affordable amplifier with great sound look no further. I haven't even used half the functions of this amp and am completely in awe of the amazing sound quality. Crystal clear with zero distortion even at fairly high volumes. Get this unit or any of Yamaha's great amps.
What's great about it: Great price and unbelieveable sound!

Not sure if we are getting all that we can out of this receiver. Sound quality is good but not as loud as I thought that it could be.
What's great about it: Fairly easy to set up without reading the instructions
What's not so great: Not sure if it works as well as it should with Bose 5.1

I am repalcing a Bose 321 system with these receiver and the klipsch ht500 5.1 package. The speaker package, pair with these receiver works perfect, the sound is crisp and clear. I was expecting less from it cause the other setting I was looking for, the receiver alone cost almost as much as I pay for these whole system (including spearkers). The set up can be easy but you need to READ the instructions. I am running throug the receiver, Direct Tv hddvr, Comcast hddvr, a Samsung bluray player (this years new model C-6500) and PS3, all control throgh the receivers hdmi conections so there is only 1 hdmi cable connected to our hdtv. You have to read the instructions to learn how many things you can do with these receiver.
What's great about it: price ,amount of inputs, ease of set up
What's not so great: learning curve could take a while

Overall a good choice for an AV receiver without breaking the bank. This receiver has alot of the latest features and processes and switches (HDMI) very well. Sound quality was good, but can not compete with the likes of a Denon. This receiver provides plenty of power but I noticed lacks the same levels of volume as its predeccessor models, ex. HT6130 or HT 6050. Do not get me wrong this receiver will serve well and provide a great experience especailly at this price point. Easy to setup and use. No issues or problems.
What's great about it: Plenty of well functioning features for the price point
What's not so great: Noticed decreased volume and power capabilities from 2008 models

Do your home work before buying this receiver. I was intending to use it as a gloried switch for my existing components and to feed music to multiple rooms in the house. To use the component inputs, the audio must come through via coaxial or digital optical. This kept me from connecting a WII with the component cables. There is no component input that will take left/right audio. Maybe it was naive on my part, but I thought using the HDMI output would send ANY output from the receiver through the HDMI to the television. Seems if you connect a device through AV1-6, it has to be output the same way. So you cannot use a combination of HDMI, component, and composite to the receiver and use one connection to your television.
Because of the above issues, I never got around to finding out how the system actually sounds with speakers attached.
I'm taking this receiver back to BB and reconnecting the $49 4-port component switch.
What's great about it: It clear up the jerkiness between my cable box and tv using HDMI
What's not so great: It won't take older component connections, ie no left/right connections for audio
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Did my research, then caught this unit on sale @ BB. My only issue thus far is when using HDMI, gold plated cables(no, not monster brand), connecting cable box to this unit...then this unit to TV. ..the audio signal does not hold...it blinks. This creates a jumpy audio signal...not smooth. Hoping someone here can provide a 'fix' for me, before I disconnect at bring back for another.
thanks

Very high quality unit, equal or better to my last $2000 Yamaha unit. I got rid of the $2000 unit because this one did HDMI switching AND HDMI Upscaling! For a great price, this can't be beat!

What's not so great: Nothing - Maybe HDMI CEC Control learning curve

As the headline says, if you are looking for a quality receiver without spending a fortune, this is the one for you. I wanted a receiver with 4 HDMIs and this was probably the least expensive one I could find. The sound quality is very good, the picture quality is very good, and it comes with a microphone for automatically setting up your surround speakers. Can you spend more an a receiver? Yes. Can you get a receiver with many more features and better quality? Yes. Can you get one for 350 out the door? No.
What's great about it: Many different features and the included microphone for automatically setting up surround sound
What's not so great: For the price, nothing.

This is a very good component for my home surround sound that I set up just recently. I had 5 perfectly good Bose speakers so I went with an AV receiver instead of a home surround system. I had a 23 year old Pioneer that served me nicely but it was only 2 channel so I upgraded. I bought a Pioneer but the tuner was bad right out of the box so I took it back and after some research bought the v465. The sound quality is so good and separation of channels is so distinct that my wife and I are constantly looking around to see if it is raining, or some one came in the back door when it was actually a separate channel on the TV. I thought there was a cricket in the house the other night while watching a Discovery Channel on insects. One problem is that when the cable box is hooked up to an input HDMI port you have no way to change the channel on the cable box that will in turn change the HDMI port on the TV. I had to end up buying a Harmony 510 universal remote which is an excellent solution by the way even though it was hard to pay $100 for a remote when I have five sitting around. The set up is easy but you must have all speaker connected when you do the auto optimize speaker adjustment or you get an error, but over all very easy. HDTV 5.1 broadcast sound is as good as DVD sound. Good luck.
What's great about it: Sound Quality
What's not so great: Lack of Cable Box Control
