I shopped around for a good 3 months before buying this unit. I really liked the way it looked in the store, but I know that is not always the best criteria. Reviews were good and then when BB came out with the free Blue Ray player, this became the pick over the Samsung.
Glad I chose this Toshiba. I had a Toshiba 32" crt for about 18 years. They are a very good brand.
I did purcahse the Monster set up disc from a competitor and that made me confident the picture was as good as it will get, which is stunningly awesome.
What's great about it: Beautiful Picture, very easy to set up
What's not so great: nada!

Extremely easy to set up. Love the quality of the pics, sound is good for regular listening, uses surround sound when watching Blu-Ray so not an issue. Lots of pre-set picture settings, making changes a push of a button, very convenient,or just leave on "Auto" and forget about it.
One minor annoyance, probably user ignorance, I have yet to figure out how to by-pass the language screen when the TV is turned on each time.
Major plus for us was SD memory card slot (also reads SDHC) so could read videos and pics from my camcorder's 32 GB card if I don't want to use the HDMI cable.
4 HDMI slots, computer connection, etc. plenty of connections for everyone and just about anything (new and old).
Beats spending 2x for brand name with same quality and some don't even have the memory card slot.
What's great about it: Great colors, darkness, no blurred motions with sports (Football, basketball, etc.)
What's not so great: None so far on the TV. Being nit-picky on the remote - a little on the large side, kids have dropped a few times.

Got this in time for the BCS bowl games. The picture quality is fantastic. No jagged lines or ghost images as I watched the games. Colors were very rich. I have enjoyed this tv greatly.
What's great about it: No problems out of the box
What's not so great: Sound is a little fuzzy on high end tones

I stumbled upon this TV at a Best Buy Clearance Event in October 2009 in Columbia, MD for $999.99. I couldn't pass up that deal for a simulated 240 Hz LCD TV. The upconvert feature is not that great. The remote control is somewhat cumbersome to use, but the rest of the features more than make up for these deficiencies. I primarily use the Verizon FIOS remote most of the time anyway. The SD card slot is great for showing slideshows. The 4 HDMI inputs are really handy for all of the peripherals I have. Football fans will love this TV. There is no noticeable motion blur at all.
What's great about it: Great value for simulated 240 Hz LCD TV
What's not so great: Remote control could use some improvements

I have had this for 6 months and find it incredible. The picture in HD is second to none and I looked at many sets before this one. I also spoke to TV service men who suggested Toshiba. Money was no the object but it was priiced right and has excellent features. I will be adding a larger one in the next year and it will also be a Toshiba. I must say I was not a big beleiver in calibration but I did it with this one. It is amazing how true to life it is and Best Buy gave me a great price on it. Cant go wring on this set
What's great about it: This TV is awesome. Easy to use and set up

I purchased this set after many visits to my local best buy and comparing the picture clarity/quality against all the similar sized sets available (Samsungs, Panasonics... etc). The picture quality on this set was noticeably better than the others. On the trip made to make a final decision, I questioned a floor rep about the set. He stated it was one of a select few setup on HDMI while the others around it were not. I looked at the set again, since it was moved, and it looked just as good now as it did before. I asked if it was still HDMI setup. His response was no. So even running on AV cables this thing looked better than it's counterparts. No company is perfect, and you can always get a lemon, but I have had none of the problems that have previously been mentioned. I've owned the set now for going on three months and not even a hickup. If you want a great tv, you can't go wrong with this one.
What's great about it: Picture, Look, the whole thing really
What's not so great: Nothing so far

I initially bought the Toshiba Regza 46XV645U, but the speakers made a rattling sound when the volume was over 30, so I returned it. I was so impressed by the picture quality that I decided to stay with Toshiba and spent a little extra to get the 47ZV650U. I've had the TV for 2 weeks now, and I've been very happy with it. Of course the most important was the picture quality, and the image is stunningly clear. Colors are vibrant and bright with nice deep blacks. Colors are also very accurate, and out-of-the-box I didn't need to make any adjustments with a calibration DVD. HD programming is unbelievable, and the Resolution+ technology even upscales standard def to look great. The screen is somewhat glossy, but is bright enough so that reflections don't show when it is turned on. The ClearScan 240 technology actually does work because the stock ticker at the bottom of the screen has noticeable blur with the function turned off.
A few more things that were nice to find--When viewing pictures with the SD card reader, you can use the remote to rotate the picture on-screen. The remote control is also programmable and has a feature where you can make the volume button control your home theater receiver without having to switch the remote out of TV mode. Also when you mute the volume, it automatically turns closed-captioning on.
Some negatives? Well, the speakers do get pretty loud, but the quality is about equal to a clock radio, so it works if you have nothing else. Also, while playing MP3s through the USB port, you are stuck on the file directory screen and there's no screen saver mode while the music is playing.
Other than that, I haven't had any issues with it, and considering it's priced way less than comparable Sony, Samsung, and LG TVs, this is a great buy. I just hope that it will last for years!
What's great about it: Crystal clear picture
What's not so great: Speakers not bad but not great

Had it 3 weeks, problems with distorted volume ( intermittent ). Called Toshiba, did not get much help. They said " we never had that problem before" well you do now. Replaced it with a Mitsubishi 46" I'm thankful for Best Buy's 30 day return policy, they were great help. I would recommend getting the service contract on these new TV's.

I researched a lot this time which TV to buy and went to check TVs at several stores. My choices came down to three options, Sony V5100, Samsung B650, and this Toshiba. Finally, I decided to buy this Toshiba because at first it has the best looking and I felt it has the best picture when I checked at the stores.
So far, I like this TV and have no complaint. It has great pictures with HD.
I also use it as Computer monitor and the picture looks great.
For the price and quality, this TV has a great value.
What's great about it: good price, good picture, good looking
What's not so great: Nothing at this point

I'm no expert, but I can see that I know as much as some reviewers on this site, so here's my opinion...this is an awesome TV for the money. The black levels are superb to me (better than my other HDTVs) and the picture only washes out when viewed from above or below, not much at all from a side angle. Colors are vivid and true, and the "gimmicks" seem to actually work to improve the PQ--this is the first TV I've ever had that looks good with the automatic controls left ON! Audio quality is good if you can be satisfied with 10 watts per channel, and the audio levelling feature actually works to prevent commercials from blasting (my wife is happy about that.)
This is my fourth HDTV and probably my 20th TV altogether, and I could not be happier. I've had better reliability from my Toshibas than my Sonys, by the way. There is probably not much dealer profit on this set so they don't seem to push it, but seek it out and see what you think.
What's great about it: Great picture, great price, good sound...
What's not so great: It's all good.

I ordered this online to replace my old Vizio 42 inch. I have to say that much research, I settled on this set. Picture is amazing in HD. The DVDs when upconverted to 1080P look just as great as blue ray. I have my sound hooked up through my amplifier. The HD channels are very vibrant and clear. This is a great set. Almost thought it was a plasma!!!

I have comcast and since I bought a 1600 dollar TV I'm expecting a TV that at least looks better then my 50 year old Phillips. I don't know if it's the cable but the d*mn picture sucks. squiggles sometimes and just plain blah. 3:4 isn't appealing to me what-so-ever so I stretch it to fit full screen and it's horrible. Maybe I have some setting wrong on the tv but I was a little disappointed but today for some reason the picture wasn't that bad. The sound is way better than my Phillips and I'm going to buy a HDMI cord to see if it makes a diffy.
I don't know.. I wouldn't buy this again but it's ok for someone who hasn't had a LCD HDTV before.
What's great about it: Big, easy to set up
What's not so great: bad price, attracts dust like crazy, if you have comcast the picture is cr*p for some reason..
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's Great:
Pricing, at $1500-$1700 it's tough to find anything with this TV's features, Picture quality etc. Color accuracy is spot on for the most part. Build Quality is seemingle good albeit very "light" in weight. Nice remote control, plenty of connections including 4 HDMI & an SD card slot! Faste input switching is a nice touch on this as well.
What's not so great:
Mediocre at best Blacks when sitting dead center. If you sit anything off angle with this TV your blacks become a washed out dark grey. Unfortunately for me this was the deal breaker. The picture went from practically stunning, to a washed out mess when i changed seating locations in my living room . From dead on, it looks good, off to the side (and not even that extreme) I almost immediately lost interest. I eventually packed it up and returned it. No amount of calibrating or adjusting can fix this as it's just a limitation in the panel. Also I saw quite a few things missing from what im used to seeing on other TV's that I grew used to. Like hitting the info button on different sources to verify your resolution etc. On a samsung for instance when watching a Blu-ray you hit info, it says 1920x1080p@24/hz there is no button for this on Toshiba, and when it does show resolution it doesnt tell you the frame rate, and it's only on when you switch to an input. Navigating the menu's can be burdon as there is no "return button" so when you wanna go "Back" in a menu you have to exit and then go back in. gets annoying.
I paid the difference and picked up the Samsung LNB46B750 and honestly couldn't be happier. Best black levels i've seen in ANY LCD and viewing angles are superb!!!! It was $500 more, but In my humble opinion worth every penny. I figure you only buy a TV usually once every 8-10 years, so might as well get something you will be truly happy with....and now I am.
As for the 47zv650u, only way I could reccomend it would be if you were on a seve budget, and ....this is the very big AND....sitting dead center on this TV. If you meet those criteria, then this is a great set....if not, I think your money is better spent elsewhere...like Samsung or Sony.
What's great about it: Color accuracy, Price
What's not so great: Terrible Viewing angles, Mediocre blacks.

Went to Best Buy for a particular Samsung, after a year researching HDTVs, but it was out of stock - thankfully. Saw this one, hooked by the "240", went home and looked into it; had a Toshiba 35" stereo CRT for years, nice set. Wound up at a big local competitor because of price - Nebraska Furniture Mart - but gave up when the soonest they could get it was weeks away. Best Buy matched the deal (with Samsung BD-P3600 Blue Ray and a better extended warranty).
Bought it, initially with just digital cable, next night with HD CATV (and an Ace Hardware 1080p HDMI cable), next night with the Blue Ray (and a Philips top-end 1.3 HDMI cable). At each level, a few hook issues solved quickly by tech support from the cable provider, and a killer picture. The test Blue Ray was "Quantum of Solace" the James Bond thing. I do not think the performance was anything but state of the art - absolutely perfect, wow, etc. Blue Ray on this set is everything I hoped for in HD. Yeah, if I wasn't an old guy, a PS3 for a few more bucks.
Sound is fine; my better half doesn't like cabling and lots of gear and goes to bed early anyway, so it's fine. Haven't tried any concert/serious music stuff yet but I'm sure it will be good.
A little thing with table light reflections on the glossy screen, but with such a killer picture, one stops noticing in about ten seconds
Only real problem: getting the neighbors to go home.
Love this TV.

What's not so great: Nothing so far

I love this set and wish i had one in every room. It has some of the best colors of any set I have ever seen even better than Samsung or Sony for that matter. I had written a review on 5/17/09 and gave it all 1's, but I was very upset about the dead pixels that were on the screen. I returned it today and got this one and I have been watching it every since. As I said before forget the review I posted earlier and buy this Toshiba and have one of the better LCD tv's on the market. If you don't believe me go into the store and see it for yourself. This is the review of bigtymer74
What's great about it: Everything about it. Color, size, sound and design !
What's not so great: This is my second one, had to replace the 1st one because of dead pixels.

I went to sears to get a panasonic plasma that was on sale. lucky for me they didnt have any in stock. I bought this because its 240 hz. then i realized that its not really 240hz. but the trick they use to claim it is really works. The motion is wonderful , the color is amazing, the crisp detail is unmatched. I love this tv, Unless you like throwing away money on other brands because you think there name and higher price makes them better you'll be more than satisfied with this tv.
What's great about it: the picture
What's not so great: the stand could be a little more sturdy but its not that bad for tv this size.
