What's great about it: Quick, simple easy to use
What's not so great: Does not have its own power supply, you need to use the cameras power supply
We bought the DVD recorder for the purpose of placing the baby videos on disc. This device does its job quickly and ease. You choose your videos then with one button it's complete. Now I must be still living in the past because I own a HD DVD player and a non HD DVD player if you record in HD you have to put the video on the disc as HD and it can only be played on a HD/blueray player. If you record in STD you can watch on any player. Now it also does not have its own power supply so your camcorder needs to be charged or plugged in to use this device. In other words I'm happy with my purchase and would recommend this device to all. Remember to buy discs

My negative review is only to let potential buyers know that you can ONLY use this drive with the specified Sony camcorder. You CANNOT use this as an external PC/Laptop peripheral device. I made that mistake, and not I have to return it.
So if you're looking for an external DVD burner...this is NOT IT (unless you're using with the Sony Camcorder specified).
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: IT WORKS!
Worked exactly as advertised! My husband is sooo excited he can record all his camcorder DVD's to give our family! Once he realized to buy the correct DVD'S that he needed to record -- some HD and some for the Standard TV's! TY!

What's great about it: 1 Button Disc Production
What's not so great: Wont creat standard dvd from HiDef recording.
This is a great product when paired with a SONY HD HDD Camcorder. The only thing is that I missed in the description is that if you burn out HiDef video you can only play it on a AVCHD Player usually this means a Blu Ray player. And there appears to be no way to have it burn out a regular definition DVD from a HiDef recording. Other than caveat I would highly recommend this product.

What's great about it: Now I can view my video's with one click.
What's not so great: it only works with a few models. won't copy pic's, just video
Disappointed in new camera. could not open video so this burner was a must. now I love my camera and can use it as intended.Love that I can switch between camera and video.

What's great about it: It is so user friendly and quick!
What's not so great: It's new, haven't found a down side yet though!
I'm going to make good use of this DVD Direct unit. So far I have only used it direct from my camera to the unit without using my computer.
I would recommend this to a friend!
