What's great about it: Accuracy in getting you there
What's not so great: Odd size-shape, not so easy to store
I have both a Garnin (765T) and this GPS. The features in the Garmin are great but for traveling in unknown areas- The Tom Tom is the one I pick, especially in the highly populated areas. It may not have all the POIs but if you know the address it will get you exactly where you tell it to get you. Also the advance warning about which lane to be in and how far ahead the turn is works much better than the Garmin. Most of the time with the Garmin you are passing where you need to turn before it tells you to make the turn, which is not good in the Metro DC area, and it takes longer to recalculate the new route that it just caused. Based upon my experience, the Tom Tom is so much better at advance warnings and recalculating the route

What's great about it: Great Price, Car Charger Included, Mexico & Canada Maps Included
What's not so great: Touch Screen, Small Screen, Included voices
This is a great product for the price. It works great, has Mexico and Canada maps included, and the design is slim and sleek. The down side is the touch screen calibration is not so great. Mistyping letters due to calibration happens at least once per use. The voices supplied are fine, but I had more choices on an old TomTom I had and more I could choose to buy. But with the new IQ technology your voices are limited. This isn't a big deal, but I wish they had more!
BOTTOM LINE: Great choice if you want to save some cash or need maps for Mexico or Canada. If a reliable touch screen calibration is important, look elsewhere.

What's great about it: Easy to set up
What's not so great: Secondary roads...watch out for being asked to turn where you cannot
It was OK, but on the roads in south Florida it was frequently unclear. Instead of simply saying "Stay on the highway" it had me getting off and on, once had me turn on a road that was ONE WAY...THE WRONG WAY.
I'd rate it just OK

What's great about it: great price and accurate maps
What's not so great: Small internal memory, slow software updates
It's easy to set up and a great value for the price. The small screen is pretty good and allows you to carry it in your pocket. You can get map updates from the internet.
The latest US/Canada/Mex map updates took more than 1 hour to download on a 10 Mbps internet connection and maybe one more hour to install.

What's great about it: IQ routing, visual lane assist, quick SAT / GPS fix
What's not so great: internal memory is too small
My first GPS purchase and the TT 140S met expectations on getting me quickly and accurately to my vacation destinations. The IQ routing function is quick to recalculate a new route if you stray off the planned course. Computer voice is clear (Dave version) and volume is auto adjust to speed. Lane assist is a big plus and I found very handy (good advance warning) when driving I-10 and Loop 1604 San Antonio.
The TT 140s falls miserably short with its map updating software and its small internal memory size. Be ready to have your PC work 5 - 8 hours to download a map update. The TT 140s is USB capable, unfortunately I read that it is the USB 1.1 standard which is 40X slower than USB 2.0....SLOW.
The internal memory is 2.0 GB. The latest US/Mex./Can map is 1.7 GB (ver. 8.45). TT 140s does not have an SD slot. The application, voice, and other user programs reside on the internal memory....you run the risk of not having enough memory for future map upgrades. TT recommends the user delete unused programs from the internal memory to hopefully make enough room for future map updates. This is poor product design. Would you buy a PC and OS where the OS used 85% or more of the entire hard drive space? Note, that most TT models have the same 2 GB internal memory size but a few models are SDHC card slot capable.
Since I primarily use the TT 140s for vacation destinations (amusement parks, hotels, airports, etc) I really don't need to update my map and updates are expensive. I bought my TT 140s from BB for $99. A single map update is about $99 or $65 if I enroll in an annual program within my 30 day of purchase window.
Note, TT has announced that beginning early 2nd Qtr. 2010, TT will offer a one time pay (life time) map upgrade program bundled with the sale of some of its models.
If you are like me and just need a gps with basic functions for infrequent use then this might work for you. Pass on the TT140s if you want more bells and whistles from your gps.

What's great about it: Easy to get an address; easy to read in daylight; accurate street info
What's not so great: Downloads too many megabytes
Right out of the box the TomTom 140s worked terrifically. Went to the website to download the home program and it loaded with no difficulty. Retrieved the most current version of the map, but when I checked all the boxes, including the "Dave" voice download, there was not enough memory in the unit to make the transition. Had to delete the foreign voices in order to make room for the newest version of the map. The techies should make certain new maps will fit in the megabytes provided. In practical, on-the-road use, the unit is terrific. Adjustable volume, reprogrammable routes, Instant re-routing when we miss a turn, easy to input an address, windshield mount that actually works. Love the TomTom.

What's great about it: Keeps up with route changes
What's not so great: No problems
I bought this GPS to replace one I've had for a couple of years. I wanted one that would have a better mode of calculating routes without asking me to recalculate at every turn. I'm really pleased with this one, if I need to make a change in routes due to construction detours it recalculates based on my heading and just figures out the quickest way to my destination without a lot of distracting asking for input from me. It comes with software so I can connect to the internet and download the latest information quickly and easily. I can even make corrections to the map if I find it is incorrect. I highly recommend this product to anyone.

What's great about it: Easy to set up,signal reception best, high end features in less price
What's not so great: not found so far
This product seems me awesome..I had TOMTOm one GPS before. I am already a TOMTOM fan. I have used it before. I can guide me clearly, good signal receptions. I never have problem with updating map online. I heared some guys have, but let me tell you even GARMIN's takes so long couple of hour for downloading maps. There is no need of updating maps right away after your purchase, b'cos it already came with latest map. The main thing I like is Advanced line guidance, 3D view of lanes on Interstate features, which is far in this price in any other brands.
Overall in this price tom tom offers great features with best quality, so I recommend anyone to go for it.

What's great about it: Lane assist and IQ Routes
What's not so great: Can't install any updates thru TomTom HOME
I bought this GPS to replace my Garmin 265T because the TomTom has Lane Assist, Reality View and IQ Routes. Boy what a mistake! Map updates don't work. The unit runs out of memory part way through installation. Now it says "Map Not Found". Transferring data to the TomTom via its USB cable is ridiculously slow! It took at least 5 hours just to find out the map update wouldn't install. Best Buy should not even be selling these defective products! None of these problems have ever happened on my Garmin Nuvi 265T. I've installed three map updates on the Garmin since I bought it and all have gone without a hitch. It took 1 hour compared to the TomTom's 5+ hours. Same with Garmin's firmware and software updates I downloaded with Web Updater, I've had zero problems. The TomTom 140S is a laughable answer to Garmin's Nuvi 265T. I will be returning the TomTom because a GPS unit should NEVER, EVER be this difficult to use.

What's great about it: EVERYTHING!
What's not so great: NOTHING!
I had to drive to NY - family emergency (800 miles one way!). No one was available to ride with me. Borrowed my son's TomTom. Took me to the front door of the hospital in Manhattan AND I drove around NY as if I was a seasoned NY driver! No problems whatsoever! I calibrated the TomTom for one way to NY; then recalibrated it to come back another way - the Pennsylvania Turnpike! Wonderful piece of technology! Without it, I would not have even considered making the trip alone! I am getting one of my own in October! LOVE IT!

What's great about it: Easy to use, easy to update, says street names aloud with adequate warning
What's not so great: Won't disable keep to highway lane warning
I read good reviews about this TomTom and was very interested in the IQ routes as well as giving directions and street names out loud. It is very easy to use and did a good job providing the best route based on time of day and announcing turns well in advance. The demo feature and text turn by turn instructions are cool too. Unfortunately, the advanced lane guidance is overdone in my opinion. There is an option to disable the 'keep to highway lane' instructions, but I could not get it to actually disable. It works by advising the driver to "keep right" almost every time there is a turn off on a major road. It's maddening to hear about 3 times per mile or so that I need to keep right when I have another 20 miles to go on a particular road. TomTom support tried to help and had me remove the application and reinstall. But it would not reinstall properly rendering the device useless. I took it back to Best Buy to exchange it and the new device had the same problem not disabling this feature. Appears to be a flaw in the device or software. I took it back as well and gave up. If you can get past it telling you to keep right all the time, then it is otherwise a very good GPS. It doesn't do this on every highway, but it was doing it quite a bit where I live in Tampa and Clearwater, FL. I would not recommend this device solely for this reason.

What's great about it: nothing--yet
What's not so great: Map update make it inoperable
Bought the Tom Tom Thurs night. Seemed to work fine on the way home from the store, although the text-to-speech voice was not terribly clear on street names. Went to HOME to update the map on Friday and the updated map "does not operate on this model"....yes, they automatically updated my unit to a map tha doesn't work and I cannot find a solution. Spent hours on their useless help pages trying to find a way to restore the original map or reload the updated map. Still doesn't work....at all. Cannot do anything but turn on the system.
If I cannot get resolution this morning on their limited-hours help lline, I will return to Best Buy to get a different brand. hours before the trip I bought this for, I am seriously put out by this "map update service" that has rendered the GPS unusable.
This was the cheapest text-to-speech unit I could find, on sale. I guess you get what you pay for.

This GPS so far has been good to me. At first, it was a little confusing tryign to navigate places and back, but only beacuse Ive never owned a GPS. Once I messed arond with the Menu and features, It was so simple to navigate to POI's and work around the Menu. Im using mine this weekend for our trip down to San Antonio, and im confident that this thing will be accurate and I wont get lost. I will sumbit another review after our trip.
