"I was looking for a TV that would fit in my entertainment center that would not cost a arm and a leg,my entertainment center is designed for a 36" SD TV it is 39" wide and this TV fit perfect and I saved $300-$600 and I don't have to trash my OAK entertainment center.
The pitcher is great the sound is good with the 3 HDMI ports I hooked up my PS3,my Sat Dish,and my Blu-Ray + there are ports for a Wii,not to mention my desk to computer, I've had it for 2 weeks now and I am verry happy with this TV."

Outstanding picture

What's great about it: The picture is outstanding, it is very clear and crisp. It's worth the price.
What's not so great: It takes a while to get the new smell out. I guess that's with any large new electronic item.

My first LCD television

What's great about it: Comes on almost instantly. Integrates with other Toshiba components. One remote control is needed.
What's not so great: Most media is still in a 4:3 format. Television is 16:9. Can adjust to 4:3 so images aren't stretched wide.
"I don't have much experience with LCD or plasma telvisions, but I've always been pleased with Toshiba products. I did read the pros and cons of buying an LCD, but this particular model has a fully adjustable range of color and image enhancements to compensate for the short-comings that LCDs tend to have image-wise. The audio is good and It has a good bass response, but it can buzz a little in the lower range, especially if you have a dynamically active (sci-fi movies, for example) Blu-Ray DVD being played.
Nice touches include the Regza feature which allows you to control and integrate other Toshiba components such as their Blu-Ray players via an HDMI cable from a single remote control. The remote can be programmed to operate other components (my older Toshiba VCR is an example) as well. My only complaint on using the Regza feature is that you have to go through a couple layers of menus to turn the Blu-Ray player on or off, but every other feature (play, stop, eject, etc.) is instantly available from the remote otherwise. The television adjusts its brightness based on the lighting in a room which is another nice feature.
With that said, I'm quite pleased with my purchase and not at all disapointed. I think I made a good first choice. Toshiba makes very good products and this is no different."

Great TV & Buy

What's great about it: Excellent Picture & features and easy set up
What's not so great: Nothing to this point
"Great pricefor the 1080P, 120Hz, 40" size compared to the other name brands. TV is in our Great Room which is bright- 4 large windows and Screen has no glare.
Screen: Colors are brilliant, clarity is crystal, Hi Def channels are fanatastic. TV offers nice features for non HD channels if there is a need to watch them.
Set up: simple, menu is easy to follow for quick adjustments.
Sound: Very Good for small speakers, voices are clear which is important to me, plenty of volume-power. Never expected the sound to be a like what I get from our surround system
Remote: No issues here either, lots of buttons but it does glow in dark and key buttons are are placed well.
Features: Plenty that cover sound, screen size, picture-movie/PC/Gaming, channles, etc..3 HDMI ports, usb, PC, Game, digital audio, etc.. meets all my needs.
Service Plan; Key item. I Purchased the 4 yr service plan due to a recent bad experience with sony XBR 52" that lasted 13 months, screen went bad--Sony( from india) quoted me $5200 to fix my $2800 TV, yes they said buy a new TV. Last time I buy any sony products or advise anyone to do so. The Sony was not purchased from Best Buy
Final: Best Buy sales techs indicated and explained well the key of 120hz for sports so after reviewing the various 120 hz models, the best buy clearly was the toshiba based on my comparison of the picture on similar size brands at the store and wanting 1080P, 120hz, 3 HDMI (min) and 40" class. I purchased an open box item, which lowered the price to $674 then purchased the 4 yr service plan for full repair or replacement and final cost was still below the competition price w/o a service plan.
Very happy knowing I will get minimum 4 years from this TV or an equivalent. Extremely satified with purchasing from Best Buy in Collegeville Pa.-great sales staff."

"I purchased this tv for our bedroom, a perfect size. Ordered it online and picked it up in the store, which worked great. I was in the store for a total of 6 min to pick it up and they loaded it in vehicle for me. It was very easy to set up. One feature that I like is the 1/2 mute."

What's great about it: Great Picture. Easy to use menu. Many inputs on back.
What's not so great: Cheesy speakers. Basic remote.
"I have found this to be a great tv for the price. The only thing that i do not like about it is the speakers are god awful, I would strongly suggest adding a home theater system to this. I also do not like the remote it came with, but then again it is just a basic remote.
Overall I think that this is a great tv for the price!"

What's great about it: Not much. Lack of glare maybe?
What's not so great: Lived only 2.5 years. Entire panel is shot and it costs more to fix than replace. 2 years...REALLY????
"I would recommend you avoid this flatscreen at all costs. I've been an early adopter for a long time and have had a Panasonic plasma for 8-10 years now without a single problem. I moved that upstairs and bought this one to reduce glare since it is in a very bright room and to get to 1080p. 2 years into it there is a multi-colored ribbon about 12" wide down the left side. I've had 2 service calls and they replaced a data cable hoping to fix it but no luck as the problem is still there and now they say it's the panel itself. Costs more to fix than replace. Guess what? I'm not replacing it with a Toshiba. Standard Def picture was almost unwatchable it was so bad. HD looked OK."

What's great about it: Quick and easy set up, a monkey could do it.

"The tv it self is so sleek and shinny. Its a little on the heavy side so it dose take two to instale it on the wall but putting it on a stand would be simple. The chanel guide is neat, you can go threw thw chanal numbers while on the chanel your whatchin. Nit a big deal? It has alot of setup features that are nice. To go to different inputs you can push input or sort threw the inputs and select the one you want. I have a PS3 and a DVD sourond sound hooked up to the TV and they are both excelent. Playing games on this is amazing and blue-ray and DVD's are stunning as well. All in all a great TV."

"Had tv working for two days. On the third day picture went and I only heard sound. Turned tv on and back off, and screen was black with no sound at all. Can't even get menu to come up anymore. Will be taking back to store for another brand tv. Very disappointing."

"I just purchased the 40 inch hdtv toshiba 1080p and 120hz. This is me and my wife's first lcd tv and think the picture is great on high definition, even family that came over for thanksgiving thought so too. Just had an issue with the volume a few minutes ago and decided to check all the reviews and see if anyone else had an issue. We were watching a movie and the volume went wacky, like it got all distorted and sounded weird. I shut off the tv and turned it back on and it sounded fine but made me paranoid. Saw a person put it had an issue with the sound chip for these models. Then while watching the movie there was small lines across the top of the screen. think it was just the station because we changed the channel and it was fine. but going to watch it very closely and if it keeps acting up we are going to bring it back, especially with the volume. checked my tv on the toshiba site to see if mine was one of the defective ones and it said it wasnt. but so far have been very pleased with the tv. the picture quality is great."

"This model Toshiba has problems with the sound chip. After an hour or so of operation, regardless of video input, the sound becomes garbled. The only way to "fix" it is to turn the TV off then back on. Very disappointing since otherwise the picture quality is excellent. As another reviewer mentioned though, motion blur can be a problem. Toshiba advertises this as 120hz, but it doesn't always seem like this is true."

What's great about it: I love this designed finish, great detail and rich color, I actually like the remote and very good on power saving

"This Toshiba REGZA / 40" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LCD HDTV is a good but not great tv. But whats great about it is that it does have great detail and rich colors, I did like the grown in the dark remote, the backlight did enhance whatever I was watching. The thing it lacks is the 120Hz motion, I mean it has it if you were to set it next to a normal tube tv but compared to a LG (which I now have) or Samsung of same size and with 120HZ you can see a BIG difference. The response time for this tv's pixels is 8ms where as the other 2 are 4ms or below which makes for faster motion in everything. Overall tho this is a beautiful and good tv. I just wish it had the speed of the other 2 and I would still have it"

"well a have this tv for about 6 month. the picture quality is amazing when a was in the store i look a lot of tv diferent brand and I compare to sony and samsung and it was just like it. You want a great tv but not paying extra 400 dollars then this is the tv. Now remember get the protection the bestbuy offer becuase a got a sony 32 inch and 3 months down the road start to give me problems but I have the bestbuy protection program for 4 years and the stand for the product. no matter what brand you get always put the protection plan."

What's great about it: Viewing HD, BlueRay, Features for the size class
What's not so great: Sound but who cares. I use a LG 1000w sound system with a digital audio cable
"The negative reviews on this product should be ignored at all cost. This unit is great. Yes, the built in sound system is not great but I'm pretty sure that it was designed with the use of an external sound system in mind. My TV is hooked up to an LG 1000w surround sound system with the use of the digital audio input and the sound shakes the whole house while being crystal clear.
The TV is a clean looking unit and the bezels are small around to the top and the sides. In my opinion, you can't get a TV for the price with 120mhz refresh and with 1080p. Look around and check for yourself. I looked for 2 days at HHGREGG and Best Buy and decided to get it from Best Buy."

Defective Toshiba TV Set...

What's great about it: Picture quality would be amazing, if it wasn't for Toshiba-known defect. Connectors easy to get to.
What's not so great: Toshiba-known factory defect. terrible sound quality, stand doesn't swivel, cheap remote, pointless set up menus.
"Purchased after much research. Picture was great- stunned to discover that the TV was part of a "small" percentage of defective sets- that had a maddening flickering black and white horizontal bar across the top of the screen. Found out about it only after searching the Toshiba site and reading the fine print comparing our serial number to that of the bad batch... Terrible customer service for the first attempt to remedy, was told we "did' something to the tv- had better luck with next try- told that Toshiba was aware of the issue and (like Microsoft and Apple) simply opted to release the sets and wait for customer complaints... Option: have technicial come out to fix (a 36hr old tv!) or return it with no guarantee of ending up with another defective set (what a pain!). Now looking to replace with our second choice- Sony. We were aware the sound wouldn't be that great on this (Toshiba) tv- but it is a LOT worse than we expected. TV set up menus were needlessly complicated, with a very cheap remote... seems like Toshiba is all about hype and not much on quality control (or quality period)..."

"This was an awesome buy, I bought this tv about a week ago and I absolutely love it. The picture has alot of depth and color when you play a game on it such as Battlefield: Bad Company or CoD 4. The options allow you to basically customize everything on the tv including certain channel features and that it turns non HD cable into at least 480i is awesome. Only down side is the controller could be alittle better."
