What's great about it: Great quality, Easy Setup, Great product for the price.
What's not so great: Nothing
I got the HD PVR to record my xbox gameplay. I had seen quality tests and I knew it was going to get me high quality video. I was surprised at the easy setup and easy use. This was a purchase I am truly proud of.

first i would like to say that this was a great investment if you are looking into recording your xbox/ps3 gameplay and posting it on youtube. This has the best recording quality, and it is extremely easy to setup. you can record in 720p/1080i. In my video i am recording in 720p and it still looks amazing!!!check out the video and see yourself.

paid 240 for mine at my local best buy was great purchase i can record my game play easyily on my ps3. installing was easy to... only problem i did have was recording in 720HD, i couldnt do it cause sony vegas didnt reconize it, so i changed the quality to 1080i and BAM worked fine with sony vegas... check out my two MW3 videos i recorded useing my HD PVR.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Low cost inline Component recording device.
What's not so great: Doesn't have an built in HDMI option.
Did what I wanted it to, reason I bought it. Copied off my recorded programs off the Comcast DVR and onto my PC. High quality video. Now I've no Component equipment in my house, so I'll have to buy HDMI\Component adapters to use this device.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Easy to setup, easy to use. Video quality is superb.
What's not so great: Required new cables. A little pricey.
After reading some negative reviews, I almost didn't buy this. People said it was hard to install, didn't work right, and so on. Let me say now that they were all categorically wrong! Installation was easier than the initial setup of my TV. I use a mac so I chose to get a 3rd party piece of software, but it was super cheap and makes me feel like I'm working on a Mac still (I'm not a PC fan, particularly for multimedia). The biggest downside is the price point. When you consider that I had to buy a couple of extra cables the unit is a little bit pricey. I could get an iPad 2 for the price of two PVRs. Still, with that said, I've got so much new traffic to my YouTube channel as a result of this device that I really cannot complain at all!
I would recommend this to a friend!

The HD PVR is the best thing you could use to record Xbox or PS3. A great product and definitely worth the $200! It has great quality to YouTube and it works with Mac! All you do is download EyeTv and your ready to record. Great product from Hauppauge!

What's great about it: Hardware
What's not so great: Totalmedia Extreme 2 software.
I purchased this unit to use with my Dish network 211 HD receiver. I am also using the component out to hook up to my Sling box HD pro. The USB cable that was provided was too short for my use; my computer is 10’ away from my receiver. I know that Hauppauge recommends that unit should be as close to the computer as possible, but I took a chance and tried the Rocket fish Model: RF-PCC101 USB cable. This worked out fine for me. Hardware AM3 Phenom II quad 4, ATI 5550 video card and 4 gigs of memory running on Windows 7 pro. As far for the recording, I have no complaints. I have been using it now for a month, and my HD recordings have been perfect. I was really surprised with the quality. The only reason I took a chance is because I own a couple of their HD tuner cards and the quality with Media center is perfect. There is only one issue, and that is the software that is provided with the unit; ArcSoft Total media Extreme2. If you are going to be one of those who wants to burn a nice AVCHD or DVD. You’re going to be in for a big letdown. There is a bug in the software that Arcsoft knows about that will only make recordings up to 1h:39m:20s. When I contacted support they informed me that they are working on the problem, and that I will contacted when they have a solution, as of this writing nothing yet. They also recommended one of their other products which I would have to purchase, Showbiz 5; it does have a 15 day trial. Nero has been working for me when I want to create DVD’s. I would have given it 5 stars but I have taken off 1 because of the software issues.

Purchased this unit for my son so he could record his PS3 play and transfer to Youtube. After trying to get it synched for over a day and a half we called for help. The response, "you need to move the unit closer to the computer as the cable length is too long". Give me a break, they should make a unit that will perform well. The unit was about 6 feet from the computer. We even had spent money on software so it would be compatible to his new 27 inch IMAC. I would not recommend to purchase it and the unit was returned.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I record quite a bit of content from television and with my previous set-up with DishNetwork, I could download material to an external hard-drive through the USB port (since the internal hard-drive could only store so much data). When I switched over to another cable subscriber, this option was no longer available to me and if I ran out of memory within the internal hard-drive of the receiver, I was told to pay a "nominal" fee to upgrade to another higher capacity receiver. I stumbled upon this Hauppaugel HD PVR and it sounded too good. I gave it a try and WOW, it did EVERYTHING that is advertised. It can record HD program from the supplied component cable (no connection via HDMI for obvious reasons) and the recordings come out STELLAR, just as others have noted. Definitely would recommend this very fine product. Software is not the best but it gets the job done. Recordings are real-time so patience is truly a virtue but when you see the quality outcome of the finished product, it is well worth it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Ideal Use: Uploading HD Game Footage to Youtube without editing (when the device works)
Un-Ideal Use: Anything else.
I planned on using this to cap footage and make game reviews, but guess what? Other than Windows Movie Maker and the bundled software which is terrible at best, the recordings this thing makes are incompatible with any other editing software, from Adobe Premier to Sony Vegas Pro 11. And that's when the device worked because after 2 minutes the entire thing would not only crash but also shut off the image from my PS3 because of how the setup is supposed to work. And good luck getting customer support, haven't received an email for 4 days since I bought this thing and I get a "disconnected" voicemail when I tried to call. Avoid this thing, avoid the migraine and the almost 200$ price tag and just get an internal cap card or other method of getting footage!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought an Hauppauge HD PVR to record HD gaming videos. Very easy to connect and use. You just have to have a PC near the TV (video source) to connect via the USB cable to capture the video. Three easy formats, xBox, PS3, and Archive DVD. It outputs the xBox in MPG4. I have a mac and need to convert it to m4v for iMovie. Very nice quality.

What's not so great: Nothing really, just make sure your PC can be reached.
A guy on YouTube recommended this product, and man was he right! This IS the way to go for recording gameplay! I hit a few bumps and snags during installation, but I think it was just my computer acting up. But for the most part the installation was pretty straightforward. I recorded an old Black Ops TDM game, uploaded it to YouTube, and it looks great. I recommend recording in 720p, there's no need to go overkill.

What's not so great: The IR sensor placement - depending on your cable box.
Perhaps I am a little too negative and it's not justified. The tuner works great. But if you are going to use this with a cable box, be aware that the IR cable can be a real problem to setup. I found the compatible code for my Comcast box, but getting the little sensor in the right position is not easy, Googling for help and then shining a flashlight to figure out where the sensor should be put - ARGH!!! But once put in the proper spot (and you can't be even a little off!) , it works great. I use it with a Windows 7 machine and Windows Media Center as opposed to the software package that comes with it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

HD PVR works perfectly but the software they use (ArcSoft Total Media Extreme) is terrible. It lags when you open it up at times, not to mention it will randomly crash or fail to open. And no, it's not my PC. (AMD Quad Core 3.2ghz 6GB DDR3 & Win 7)
Honestly, in my opinion, the software that comes with the $80 dazzle is far superior to this. Of course the HD PVR blows the Dazzle away quality wise, but still.
I would recommend this to a friend!
