What's great about it: 2-way transmitter. Long range, even from inside stores.
What's not so great: Buttons easy to bump in pocket.
Make sure to have the key fob set up to lock itself so you don't accidentally unlock or start the car from in your pocket. 2-way transmitter is great if you can't see vehicle when starting. Comes with a second one-way transmitter. Really good range: can start the car from deep inside a department store (at least 1500 feet through steel construction). I gasped at the price, but now really glad I went through with it.

Absolute luxury!!! Cold mornings it is fantastic to jump into a warm vehicle instead of needing gloves to hold the steering wheel. You will love the product!!!!

It has worked great so far. It's great to walk out to a warm truck when going to school at 6 in the morning. The same goes for leaving a restaurant, movie or bar in the evening. Love this thing!

I had this auto starter installed with these 2-way remotes about 2 months ago and we've had more than several days under 30 degrees already, so it's come in very handy. I have to park outside where my car gets pounded by the Chicago weather, covered in snow and ice etc. This is my first auto start and so far, I can easily hit the car even when it's in the back of the lot, from inside my 2nd floor condo, not necessarily even through a window. At work, same story except the lot is much deeper/longer, and I'm on the 3rd floor. I've been able to start the car every time from my space up there. I love this thing, and would definitely get one if you live in a place that gets a fair amount of snow and tends to drop temps below 20 on a regular basis -
picture it...walking out to your car at 6am, it's dark, freezing, mountains of snow all around, and you gotta get to work...your car is already heated, snow/ice melted off, engine is ready to go, and you just slip right in without scraping, or shivering until it warms up, what a better way to start the day!

I waited a few months to write this review to base it on performance. I've now had this Remote Start for almost 4 months in my 04 Grand Cherokee. This is possibly one of the best things I ever purchased. First, if you own a Jeep, you know that their factory keyless entry remotes only have range of about 10 feet on a good day. I can honestly say that this remote functions 100% from literally almost everywhere that I attempted it from, just to name a few places, I was in a Hospital, my Jeep was across the street inside the parking garage on the 6th level indoors, worked 1st attempt. In any store while in line paying for stuff while my car is parked in the lot works every time 1st attempt. Was in a center city building on the 28th floor and watched my lights flash on the ground level parking lot from the window. Have yet to have a single issue. Lights Flash, Horn Beeps, Dash security light, everything still works as it did with the old factory setup, and this Viper also comes with its OWN blinking bright blue security light adding additional deterrent. The remote is the best part of the product, you hit the lock button, and the green light blinks and beeps letting you know the car is actually locked, same thing happens with the starter, unlock etc. You never need to "see" your vehicle to know its started, the remote tells you. You never need to hear the horn beep to know your doors are actually locked, just look for the green light to blink, if you are out of range or hit the button too quick it will blink red to let you know your function didnt work, I can go on and on about this model remote start, you wont regret buying it. I had mine installed in South Philadelphia on Delaware Ave by Vince, he did a fantastic job and was completed in less than 3 hours, couldn't ask for more. The box says 2000 feet of range and let me tell you, I've tested it and haven't had a problem yet, through walls of stores, distances etc, never mattered. 100% Excellence.

had this installed 4 days ago at the bestbuy I-240 & Penn store. had been wanting one for along time and did research and reading reviews. everything works great on it. installer had a little trouble with by pass because my 2003 silverado was a model change year and two of the by passes didn't want to work right, but Chad the installer kept at it and the 3rd one work out. this man knows his stuff and i highly recommend him. i work inside a large building fully closed and this remote starter worked from inside and out to a large parking lot. i've been telling all the people where i work about it and where to get it. one thing, go on line at viper, down load and print out the manual you will learn a lot of what this unit will do. also you have to go thru a set up on the key pad and it will auto lock so you don,t have trouble accidentally bumping buttons on the pad. then just push f and the door unlock button to unlock pad. get this remote starter and you'll be glad you did.

I bought a remote start/alarm for my wife's vehicle a.k.a. the family vehicle. The reason I bought it was to cool/heat the vehicle in the seasonal extremes for our two small children (2 yr. old and newborn). The original Remote Start, Viper 5301, didn't match up with the "factory" alarm. The install guys told me about this when I came to pick it up. They informed me that I could get the next level up, Viper 5701, which included the alarm to fix this. I was concerned with having to pay for another install until they told me it would be free, no material fees no anything, and I would just have to pay the difference in models ($97 after tax). As for functionality, I haven’t tried to test the max range but for starting the vehicle while waiting in a checkout line, or college campus, it works.
The "factory" alarm (aftermarket) was installed by the dealership before the first owner had ever signed the title. As I am the second owner and knew the first owner, this was something new to me. I now know that this is common practice. Most "factory" alarms aren't even installed on the assembly line (just the connections). Few manufacturers even install them and when they do it's after it reaches the end of the assembly line in a different bay, by request. The "factory" alarms, from my understanding, are made by aftermarket companies to fit the connections that were put in during the assembly. These alarms have the manufacturers name on it with aftermarket guts. This is what I learned after talking to multiple dealerships, install places and getting my father a OEM interface Remote Start for a Ford.

Price of 319.00 included basic install had to pay extra 100.00 for bypass but I knew that going in. It is a 97 BMW and it took them longer than normal to install becasue of the central locking system BMW uses (which i hate) anyway there was no extra cost involved and I sit in my office at the end of the day, press the start button, walk about 300 feet to the car and it is warmed and ready to go. Great Gadget for your car.

I got this put on my 2003 ZR2. I had the Best Buy in Decatur IL install it. This is the best purchase ever! The range is better then the factory remote. I sprung for the smart start adapter. Now I can lock and unlock or start my truck from any where in the office. Great for IL WINTERS! The installer Phil programed the remote so I have to hit the start button twice so I don't start it by mistake. Now that its on sale I'm buying one for my wives car. Well worth the money!

I am a snobby electronics consumer. If a product is not top notch im going to tear it appart. Let me say this is THE car started to have. Period.
I wasn't even in the market for a car starter. I had broken my existing keyfobs to my hummer and was complaining about it to a buddy telling how expensive the replacement keyfobs would be. He told me what he spent on the viper and showed me the fob and I was sold! Was almost half the price of buying 2 new keyfobs from the dealership, and these viper fobs are WAY sexier and have better range, and are also smaller.
Then we get into the fact that it works perfectly every time! I don't have to run to a window and see if it worked. The 2-way feedback is a MUST! Spend the extra money for it.
I read several of the reviews on this site before buying and the main downside that was discussed was that there is a slight delay for doors to unlock or lock compared to factor keyless entry. This was particularly a problem for some people trying to open the backdoor or tailgate as it would require a second press to do so. This applied to me so I was slightly concerned. Well the techs at best buy (without even asking I might add) wired it so all is unlocked from one press! Problem solved! This was a happy surprise! And really the delay is so minimal I don't even think about it after the month that I've had it. Thanks Viper and Best Buy

I got this RS on my Subaru Outback 11 and I’m loving it. I had to pay an extra $150 for other parts and labor but I was expecting that. The installers from the Bloomingdale,IL location are great and I would recommend this location over others because they know this stuff.
I would recommend to program the remote to lock the keypad to avoid accidental remote starts on your car. I can be easy done if you read page 16 in the manual.

I purchased this Viper remote start on-line at Best Buy due to they were recommended for installation on the viper web site and viper wouldn't honor the warranty unless it was installed at one of there recommended dealers and I have no complaints about the purchase or the install other than if your in a hurry it takes about a week to get the product to the store if ordering on line.

I wanted to get this remote start for when these gruesome Texas summers, and for the occasional winters. I was a little unsure on if I wanted to spend this much just to start my car, but I am so glad I got it. It works so well. There was some problem with getting it installed, they installed it and it worked, then it stopped working. They fixed it and were very helpful. It works all the way inside my school's building. I now never have a problem with it. I am so glad I bought it, I would recommend this to anyone.

What's not so great: Remotes don't operate as "smoothly" as factory ones, temperature sensor reading is 'off'
I purchased the Viper 5301 for my 2004 Yukon mostly so I could keep it warm in the winter when I park outside overnights. So far, I've had it about a day (it's summer now) and I'm pretty impressed with it. Like other reviewers, I was worried about the remote triggering it while inside my pockets and originally wanted the Viper 5501 instead which has the nicer LCD remote that doesn't do that as much (and Best Buy doesn't carry right now). But I found a way to lock the keypad on the remote for the 5301 and it's actually pretty easy if you read the manual that comes with the unit. I've heard it block key presses already. If you want the nice LCD remote anyway, you'll have to get the 5901 from Best Buy which adds an alarm system and costs almost twice as much.
The temperature sensor on my unit may be faulty or in a bad location as it seems to be reading higher than the actual interior temperature, or even the real outside temperature. However, I'm not that worried about it as I can always start the truck from my office when I know it's quite hot or cold outside, anyway.
One other little thing... Locking and unlocking the doors takes a little longer than with the factory remote. It takes about a half-second for the remote to send the command to the vehicle. So, if you have priority unlock on the drivers door, you'll have to wait until that command completes before pressing unlock again to unlock the rest of the doors. I can program that out on my truck's side so all doors unlock on the first command, but it is a minor annoyance otherwise.
Some of my friends and family have owned this same unit for at least 2 years now and they're still happy with it.
