What's great about it: Pay as you go
What's not so great: speed of service, customer service sucks as well.
Initially I purchased it for school, because I was going from place to place to use internet. Worst decision ever made. Good service in some areas, spotty and slow in all the rest. One original and two replacements, customer service made me BUY my first replacement even though I had a warranty and then on the SECOND replacement they sent me a FREE one? Then told me that I shouldn't of had to purchase the first replacement but didn't offer any kind of reimbursement. Worst purchase ever made by far.

What's great about it: The price model is good in theory
What's not so great: Anything dealing with its operation
Bought this and got the 500Mb, no contract $20/month because it sounded like a great alternative to the other carriers' plans. I didn't need a lot of data, and the price was right. It was a really bad choice. I have tried this in 4 locations around the Southeast, with three different laptops #two different operating systems# and never had better than dial-up speed, even with 4 bars of coverage. This is my last month of giving them money. The aggravation is not worth it.

What's great about it: Pay As You Go
What's not so great: Connections are slow
The internet connection is average and some areas will take a long time for applications to connect. But if you do not have a phone contract which allows your laptop to hook into the internet this is one of the better ways to connect by paying as you go.

What's great about it: cheap and decent speed
What's not so great: only 3g speeds.
I live in a suburban area, and it achieves 3g speeds...great value for the money.

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: See summary
Long story short. I've gone through 4 devices (2 original and 2 replacements), numerous hours with tech support to discover that the Novatel/Virgin drivers don't work with OSX 10.7. If you are unlucky enough to discover this, don't hold your breath for refunds ... or intelligent help.

What's great about it: Simple set up. Flexibility. Not committed for years.
What's not so great: Really needed something to do for 1/2 a day, but since installing only took a few mins, my wife made me clean the garage
Unless I'm missing something, this was incredibly simple to set up and even easier to use. What I like is that I was able to activate it on a Windows computer, then use it on my primary laptop, which runs Linux. The data plan seems to fit my needs as well. I like Virgin Mobile's pricing structure. I hope they stick with that and don't fall in line with the "Contract" carriers. This service addresses my biggest concern with "Cellular" modems (Overage Fees). If something unexpected happens and my computer starts downloading updates, I don't want to be stuck with a surprise bill at the end of the month. If I understand VM's service correctly, if I go over my data limit for the month, it simply stops connecting, until I buy more data. In my opinion, that's how it should be. Somebody, please correct me if I'm wrong because right now, I couldn't be happier.

What's great about it: Get internet
What's not so great: 3G?? Come on!!
I wanted a way to connect to the web when I was at work since somebody here ruined it all by doing what they shouldn't be doing and they pulled the plug. Any way I thought that Verizon was the only thing going for internet cards in my area and I stumbled upon virgins broadband to go. WOW I was excited!!! Device was $59.95 and $50 a month for unlimited data at 3G speeds and NO CONTRACT?!?! Bought it right then and there without doing research, didn't think i needed to. WRONG!! I can get on the internet but it is no where near 3G I don't even get the 256mbs they say they throttle you down to after 2.5g of data. I still use it lumbering around the web at slow speeds. But come on Virgin, you know whats going on out here, fess up!! And Sprint, this is your network, what gives?? FALSE ADVERTIZING AT IT"S BEST!

What's great about it: Works as needed
What's not so great: A little long on the USB port
I have had this for two months now and it is working as needed. The device itself has given me no issues, took me 15 minutes to get the drivers and the included software installed and configured. If you know where to look, the software included provides you details on data usage and other important info as well. Have yet to see five full bars on the signal but I think that is the service not the device. Note: The device is listed for twenty dollars cheaper on the Virgin Mobile website but if you indicate that to the Best Buy store they will gladly price match it.

What's not so great: Slow . . . CUSTOMER UN-FRIENDLY SERVICE at VIrgin Mobile
When it works it ok albeit pretty slow. Service is tied to the Sprint network. Their customer monitor systems are flawed and not accurate. I used 67.5 MB of a 100 MB on demand and it shut me off. I called customer service to discuss and was disconnected. I called CS back and had a 86 minute connect of which over 60 minutes was "hold time" and the rep (supossedly a supervisor) never came back to the call. I called back again to resolve the issue. This call was a 26 minute call (only 20 minutes on hold this time). On this 3rd call the issue was resolved but I had to purchase more 'connect time' to get reimbursed for what they shorted me for from my previous perdicament. These guys seem to be unorganized, in-flexible, in-attentive and customer un-friendly. My choice at this point - - - sell the modem on ebay and look for an alternative. THIS DEVICE & SERVICE ARE NOT WORTH THE HASSLES ! ! !

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Speed/Price/Lies/Lies/Lies
I have had this device for about a year and have had nothing but trouble with it.
Every month I have to call India to add $ to the account because the website is still broken. I have to reprogram the device each time I try to use it...every single time. Tried to re-install over and over and over but it doesn't help one bit and CS says it's not their fault.
I use the $50/month unlimited but after the 2.5GB monthly limit they throttle the connection to below even dial-up speeds. I currently am getting around 25 kB/s DL speeds according to Speedtest.net...that's right I said 25 kB/s. Webpages take forever to load and you might as well forget any site that has video of any kind.
If you do any kind of p2p DLing you are throttled even further. I tried DLing a free video on p2p and I am getting an average speed of 8 kB/s...8 kB/s. AND this is with me getting 3 out of 4 bars on the device and a 'Very Good' connection according to the device.
This to me is blatant theft of money from customers. After spending $100 on the device and $50/month and being promised '3G' speeds they throttle you to 8-25 kB/s. Even if you can't get internet where you are like me I would suggest saving the $50 for a few months and buying a laptop and using the local libraries Wi-Fi.
Total waste of money and time.

What's great about it: The logo is a pretty color of red
What's not so great: Everything else
Goes down several times/day.Not uncommon to waste 15-20 minutes trying to get it to come up when you need to get online. Also VERY frequently drops dead in the middle of something that you're doing so god help you if you've been writing a long thoughtful post or e-mail when that happens.
When it is running sometimes it's okay but other times it's horribly slow. We're talking dial-up slow, sometimes taking up to a minute for the screen to change.
Customer service is not always available and if they are "available" plan on being on hold for about 20 minutes.

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Service, customer service,
Horrible coverage, even worst customer service. After 6 or 7 calls (in a lapse of 3 months), I was told the problem was they were upgrading the network, there are no estimate time to fix the problem. Basically you pay for the modem plus $40 a month for no service. Would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: nothing
What's not so great: total junk no redeeming qualities
useless deserves negative stars, i've been trying to use this several months- service does not work at all is a piece of junk. I live in a metropolitan area (nyc) so connection to towers etc shouldn't be a problem- most of the time it connects but only loads the virgin mobile account page and cannot open any other sites because the connection is so poor- it counts this as usage even though you aren't even able to use the internet (essentially I've been paying this for months it works 25% of the time and when it does work its very very slow, i can't watch videos- it takess more than an hr to watch 1-5 youtube clips. i have a boos t mobile incognito cellphone that is faster and has become my primary internet source bc this works so badly- when i called virgin mobile i was on hold for 20+ minutes when i finally got a representative they said nothing was wrong with my account and that speeds are slower when a lot of users are on the network- i explained that i'm not even getting any service that it's connecting and counting my usage down but i have 0 service - i basically got the brush off from the rep said they'd look into my account and see about crediting my account for days i wasn't able to connect- since the broadband2Go program claims to be connected but does not load the internet i'm not going to get anything back, and i can't return the usb connection device...waste of time and money

What's great about it: Good connection
What's not so great: Monthly plan offerings should have better choices
Originally the data plans ranged from $10-60 a month. They changed the plans to only 2 plans. One for $10 and the other for $40 per month. If you need casual usage the current plan offerings are not for you.
The prior plans that they offered gave you much more flexibility for the casual user.

What's great about it: Nothing for me.
What's not so great: Coverage, and Virgin's customer service
I purchased the Virgin Mobile USB Broadband device and had to return it due to poor download speeds. In my area the speed fluctuated greatly. I could have speeds of 800k to 1Mb one minute, and speeds as slow as 60k the next. Best Buy was good about refunding me for the device, but Virgin Mobile's customer service sucked royally and refused to give me even a prorated refund even though I had only used 80MB on an unlimited plan. I wouldn't recommend this device to anyone unless you know that Virgin has strong coverage iin your area. Waste of $.

What's great about it: Pay only when you want to use it
What's not so great: only reasonable speed-nothing dazzling
As of this writing, Virgin offers two plans.
1. $10 for 100MB for 10 days
2. $40 for unlimited data for 30 days
Right now, you can switch between the two plans anytime your account needs recharging. This will change on 2/15/11. After that date, whatever plan you select, you will have to stay with. So, know what your usage plans are going to be. Are you planning on just being an occasional user or do you plan on using it every day. Most important to gamers and streamers is that the $40 plan will have a 5G cap. Should you exceed 5G before the 30 days are up, you are subject to being throttled down to about 256KBS for the remainder of the 30 day period.
As for me, I can live with the 5G cap. It's really pretty much an industry standard. I just wanted potential buyers to beware that, if they need higher data usage, this plan may not be suitable. I've shopped every prepaid plan available in my area and still none come close in value to Virgin Broadband2go!
