I got this computer a couple of weeks ago, and I have to say that I really love it! It has a huge hard drive which stores a lot of my music and videos as well as documents for school. The battery lasts really long for like 5 hours or more (fully charged). The processor works really fast and works really good with the Sims 3. The design on the laptop is beautiful and is very unique. The only thing that I dislike about it are the finger prints and the volume button. Sometimes, it seems like when I try to turn the volume down, the volume continues to go up but when I do it again, it goes back to normal. Other than that, it's a great laptop and was very good for the price.
What's great about it: processor, hard drive, camera, designs, long battery life, small enough to carry around
What's not so great: Gets finger prints very easily, volume touch button acts funny sometimes

I've had my DV3 for two weeks. Never had any problems until recently. Extremely fast and portable. Its light, good looking, and has a lot of memory. I am a college student and i paid a good amount for this notebook. Until recently, it has been shutting off without note randomly and this is extremely aggrevating when i have a lot of homework to do. Not sure as what im going to do yet, i do like this lap top very much and im sure once the kinks are worked out i will be completely satisfied, but right now, i am not to happy about it.
What's great about it: fast
What's not so great: having a lot of problems and its only 2 weeks old

I wanted to love this computer - I really needed a travel model with great battery life and storage. I researched and decided to go with this model. When it worked it was beautiful - the keyboard is almost normal size and programs ran seamlessly - even with Vista - but then, the hard drive crashed - I brought it back and got a replacement - many thanks to Best Buy for their help - the new one worked for a little while and the hard drive crashed again! I had to bail - what a terrible situation - I always thought that HP had quality products but I ended up with a Dell - I hope they get the issues with this model worked out.
What's great about it: great storage capabilities - great size
What's not so great: hard drive crashed - twice - on 2 different machines

Great machine for a fair price. Screen is a little small, and I would have liked it better if the screen was about 15" instead of 13.3. But the tradeoff was smaller screen for more memory. I can always attach an external screen if I want more space. Wish this had more usb ports. I use a lot of attachments (mouse, magic jack, pc connection, external webcam, ipod, etc). There are not nearly enough usb ports available.
Machiine runs well and does NOT overheat which was a huge problem with my old Dell pc. The power cord also does not get hot. The battery life is great too. I've had it running without battery plugged in for 5-6 hours with no problem whatsoever.
Webcam is not that great, and I would have expected it to have better quaility. It is very grainy and not easy to use.
This machine will probably run even better when Windows 7 comes out. Vista is terrible, and I can't believe this was pushed out to be a replacement for Windows XP. It is just not worth going to. So much different, and it crashes and does all kinds of strange things sometimes. But again, this is a problem of VISTA not HP.
We use HP pc's where I work, and they are the powerhouse of pc's for usage. I would recommend this pc to anyone.
I use my pc for internet, video editing, picture editing, and Microsoft Office applications.
What's great about it: The size is great to take anywhere. Outside, inside, traveling, and at home. It is easy to set-up and go. I
What's not so great: Vista is horrible. I hope to upgrade soon. It will freeze up and lock up but this is a problem with VISTA.

I am an IT professional. Last week, two separate clients came in with this model of laptop, each with the same exact problem: extremely frequent Blue Screen of Death. I googled it and found out quickly that Windows Update KB973879 blue screens this particular model, booted into safe mode, uninstalled that particular update, and disabled automatic updates. All seemed well and I sent them on their way. Today, one of them came back and now Windows hangs on a blue background with an unmovable cursor when trying to boot. I've been having trouble reinstalling the OS because booting into recovery mode DOES NOTHING, and HP is notorious for not giving its customers OS reinstallation disks. The built in system diagnostics were also no help. Also, the Vista Home Premium disk I have does not want to recognize the license key on the bottom of the computer for some reason. Having seen problems on not one, but TWO of this model in the same week, I'm fully convinced that this is one of the worst laptops ever made, perhaps rivaled only by one of those HP minis with a Via processor. HP computers have always given me the biggest headaches in my job. Go buy Dell or Toshiba and let me save money on Tylenol. Sure this laptop is very pretty, but you can buy nicer doorstops for $730.

Even when this laptop is nice and it could run without any problems using another OS, it lacks power and performance than a matching MacBook will out perform for a little more than $100.
Hardware is not the best, built with low-mid quality parts.
HP should built computers capable of running Mac OS X.
What's great about it: Buil nicely small portable nice screen
What's not so great: Windows based, cheap hardware

Value for price: Great value for the price. You get a 500gb HD, a long-lasting battery, and a very decent intel core 2 duo processor. Solid components in a portable 13" for $729, not bad.
Display: The screen is pretty bright but seems like a good LED screen to me.
Performance: While using the google chrome web browser I was able to easily have 6 tabs open and had no problems. Have to mention it only comes with wireless b/g, missing wireless n but can't really see a difference. The battery life is awesome as stated in the description. It did have problems updating my antivirus and would for some reason quit a few times before it was fully updated, fixed that as of today. Seems good at running multiple apps.
Convenience: For a small computer it does weight quite a bit b/c of the battery. The batter also sticks out a good inch or two and keeps the laptop at a 20 degree angle from the surface. Despite the weight it is portable and I used it at college nearly everyday.
What's great about it: long battery life, good price, nice design
What's not so great: weight, small touchpad, no wireless N

I bought this about a month ago, and it serves beyond it's purpose. This laptop plays every game I throw at it. It has an amazing battery span, It can last up to five hours on the performance setting. The keys are the most comfortable that I have ever touched on any computer. Overall, I am in love with this machine. Oh, and I love the dragon design, it's fantastic. The only downfall is that the battery sticks out on the bottom, but get a comfy lapdesk, and you'll be all set.
What's great about it: It comes in handy for everything
What's not so great: Nothing to complain about so far.

Within the course of a month and a half, I had three new computers of the same model from different Best Buys that all broke down mechanically.
The first time I had a computer that the screen turned black and would flash white--could not force shut down, had to wait six hours until it powered down.
Second computer would not turn on, and the caps lock and scroll lock kept blinking.
Third computer, kept crashing and dumping all of it's physical memory every time it was rebooted.
This was all in the course of a month and a half. As I was returning the third computer to finally switch it with another model, another girl came in with one of the same problems I had had. The Geek Squad had also said that they had seen many of these problems and that they were common.
If the computer could have worked mechanically and it didn't have a poor video card, I would have loved it.
What's great about it: Long Battery life, nice looking, decent speakers, light
What's not so great: Horrible video card, Many mechanical issues, Three new laptops of same make broke down in one month

I bought this product, and as a college student it has everything I need with a computer. It has ample hard drive space, powerful processor, and small size for portability. This laptop will easily last 2-3 hours on a battery charge for me. I was skeptical of buying another HP laptop seeing as my other one had was 15.4" and got so hot it burned you, but this one runs COOL.
The one thing to note about this laptop is that the battery "props" it up, but that is nicer for me because it's easier to type at the angle!
What's great about it: Portable, Long battery life., Powerful for multitasking, Less touch buttons
What's not so great: Screen is LED and seems to be brighter on left side?

My wife and I have been talking for the past year about getting a laptop. Our PC tower is 7+ years old and has been taken over by the kids, we wanted something for us. We've been researching and knew what we wanted. We saw this at the beginning of July and saw it had everything we wanted, at a good price. The things I mentioned under not so great are no big deal, I'll sacrifice backlit keys for ease, reliability and power anyday.
Also, another thanks to the poster below for the fix to the mouse problem.
What's great about it: Easy to setup and maintain
What's not so great: Keys not backlit, dust magnet

*ADVANTAGES: Nice product for the price. Has plenty of different features which are nice such as the touch volume pad, webcam and mic, remote control for media, and more. Nice design instead of being plain-jane like most company's products. The only disadvantage of the design is it being dragons on this particular model which isn't a big problem, the pattern is actually nice. The keyboard is actaully a dark blue which you very seldomly see on other laptops. Also, it is very easy to type on. The keys are actaully lifted up a little instead of being flat and difficult to type on. I also think the HP light on the outside is nice. It's a bright blue color that says HP. Most other HPs I have seen have not been lit up. The screen is very clear and glossy. I haven't tried yet but I'm sure it'd be nice to watch movies on. The sound quality on music is great.
*DISADVANTAGES: I have only had this computer a week and as of yesterday the touch volume pad has messed up some. It will not work sometimes and will cause the computer to freeze sometimes and constantly show the hour glass like it's trying to do something and when I hit Ctrl Alt Del it will never let the task mgr come up. So I've had to take the battery out twice in 2 days to solve the problem. That is the only problem I have had besides the remote control being semi-difficult which I'm sure I will eventually get it all figured out. I'm still trying to decide if I should go exchange this computer before my 15 days is up. If so, I will definately be getting the same exact kind!! Good luck to everyone who buys and thanks for taking time to read my review! Hope it helps!! :)
What's great about it: Has lots of features, good battery life, nice design
What's not so great: easily shows fingerprints, touch volume pad not working all the time, hourglass shows up a lot like constantly working.

I wanted a smaller, lighter laptop for my second year of college. My 4-year-old 15" Sony Vaio wasn't as portable as I desired. I like how this HP is small and holds a lot of battery so I can get through multiple classes in one day. One very useful thing I found about this laptop is that it has a mousepad deactivating button right below the spacebar. This is very helpful to prevent me from accidentally clicking elsewhere while I type, which was VERY frustrating in the past. The touch volume keys are a nice feature, as well as the fun, little remote control! This laptop lacks wireless-n but that doesn't matter to me because it still seems very fast. Also, this laptop has never gotten too hot on me. At first, you will feel warmth coming from the fan, but you won't get uncomfortable if it's on your lap for a long time.
There are a few disappointments that come with this HP laptop. First, I noticed that the fan is pretty audible. This, I can deal with, but I wish it was quieter. With my old Sony, I couldn't hear the fan at all unless it was starting up a CD. The second thing is that this is not a very light laptop. It's heavier than many 14" ones. I think the battery adds on a bunch of weight.
Overall I'm happy with this laptop. It's sleek, and pretty convenient. And I think I'll start growing into the dragons pretty soon!
What's great about it: compact, attractive, long battery life, fast, mousepad deactivator button, many ports
What's not so great: heavy, noisy

I just got this notebook a week ago, I haven't completely explored it yet, but so far I love it. It's super fast to multitask, it has a huge hard drive to store music or photos! I am a music fan and amatuer photographer so that is definitely a great thing! I'm going back to college this fall and plan on taking the notebook to class with me and it definitely will fit in my backpak and not break my back! The battery life is awesome! I did have one problem when I first got the notebook. When I was browsing the net, my screen would zoom when I wasn't clicking the zoom. But after reading another review on here, I was able to fix that in the mouse pointer settings! I have no complaints about this computer now! I would definitely suggest this one for a new college student or anyone looking for portable with a convenience of a desktop!
What's great about it: Small, Lightweight, huge hard drive, fast, great price!
What's not so great: Had a mouse problem, until read another review and fixed it!

HP did a great job with this model, i've had many laptops/netbooks but this one is a keeper. forget your desktop, here's one that has a massive 500gb hd, and 4gb of ram, no need to upgrade anything. the big battery angles the keyboard and it actually makes the laptop ergonomically friendly.
its like having a netbook size computer but having all the power of a regular laptop. and at a price of 729, its a bargain. great job HP.
What's great about it: Size, battery life, Fast, 4gb of Ram, 500gb HD, Sleek Design
What's not so great: Finger prints magenet, keyboard (wish it had the macbook keys), backlit keys,

I've used other laptops before, and the key board on this one fits me better than the larger screen ones had. For someone with bigger hands this one may be a problem. The battery helps the laptop sit at an angle which makes typing easier; most laptops sit flat which is an odd angle for typing. It also helps keep the laptop cooler. I also like the way the screen goes back and slightly down, it keeps the screen at a better angle for reading. I read a lot of e-books for school and I find no problem with the screen. I haven't had a chance to explore all the features of this laptop, but will soon. I have had this unit for 3 weeks and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a light weight portable laptop.
What's great about it: I have no problems with this laptop. I like the size, easy portability.
What's not so great: none so far.

I bought this laptop last week, and will use it for college. I checked out netbooks, but could not live without having a CD drive, and those screens are too small for me. With the 13.3" screen, its just perfect. Doesn't run hot, and not noisy. So far I love it, great speed, and so easy to use. Would recommend to anyone!
The only downside is with the shiny screen and faceplace, it does show smudges easily, but they give you a great little cloth to wipe it off with

Great build quality, light weight touch screen and I love the media remote. I got this laptop for my brother who is starting school this fall and this laptop really is worth the money. Just the 500 GB HDD, 9 cell battery and 13.3" screen would set you back by a few hundred dollars in other models. But for $729 it's definitely worth the money.
I have used HP machines before this and they last easily for 3-4 years. This laptop feels a little delicate but I hope to get good use out of it. One downside is that it doesn't have 802.11n wireless and there is no place to store the media control remote in the machine. Since it's small, I'm just afraid it will be lost.
Other great features - the laptop has eSATA and HDMI ports.
What's great about it: Lightweight, small, powerful
What's not so great: hyper sensitive mousepad, screen reflection
I would recommend this to a friend!
