What's great about it: The Layout is very good
What's not so great: Will not work very long
Rudder jumps to the right and or locks full right , full left and maybe it will center. Hat switch stoped working within 2 days. I really wish it was a better stick as its layout is just right but if it does not work the layout means nothing.

What's great about it: Layout
What's not so great: lots of bugs in the internal workings. Seriously flawed in either internal design or materials used.
I bought one of these joysticks and about one month later the rudder (X axis) started flying off to one side suddenly. I have since replaced it three (yes 3) times with the same stick. All have had either hat buttons that wont work (one wouldn't look up, other couldn't look down#, main trigger button not working, or something else not functioning. It would be a on again off again issue, not constant. Kind of like a loose wire or something but upon inspection, couldn't find anything. I kept hoping that I would finally get one that would work perfectly. The last one literally had a problem right out of the box #hat button not working literally when I plugged it in and fly the first time !!). I know how to load the software and drivers- not the issue. i also am very easy with the sticks, not been dropped or yanked around. As I said earlier, last one was literally out of the box. It is strictly a manufacturer's problem. It does work with WIN 7 64 bit. My advise... if you only want to fly in very simple flight sims it might be fine, but if you want any quality flying with buttons you can use to look around, fire weapons etc. I would find a different stick. Too bad as this one "fits" very nice and I really liked the layout, just poor workmanship or internal design.

What's great about it: When it works, everything is great
What's not so great: Seems like the bad rep has a lot of credibility now.. :(
I've been a longtime Mad Katz/Saitek supporter. I still use products I bought years ago. When I read that this stick had some reliability issues, I was skeptical and dismissive. I purchased this last week and loved it. It was great; from the programmable buttons, to the senstativity, to the small footprint when I put it away. Couldn't really think of a bad thing about it.
Then, not even a full 7 days and only after a 4 days of use (maybe 8 hours of actual game play), the X axis went dead. For no reason. I've always been, what I consider, a "gentle" user. I've got Thrustmaster stick with force feedback that's almost 10 years old, and it still works great (albeit not compatible with Win 7).
Now I'm left with the dilemma of swapping it for a new one, or just asking for credit and getting the Logitech. I know some people have had this for awhile and are happy, but now it seems like a lottery. Do you get lucky and get a good one, or one that will only last a short time? Seems kind of silly when buying something for this much money.
This would easily be 5 stars if it was reliable. But I can't give anything that breaks, and seems to be known issue for almost a year, more than 1 star.

What's great about it: Typical Cyborg adjustability.
What's not so great: Doesn't work.
I purchased this joystick as I'm getting back into flight simulators. I chose this particular item to fill the time till I get the Saitek yoke and throttle quadrant. Saitek makes the best flight controllers and so I had confidence in the brand. That was a mistake. The 2 and 5 buttons as well as all but one hat position would not work. I returned the joystick and exchanged it for another. All buttons now work but the hat is again defective. To be sure it wasn't a compatibility problem with my system I loaded the drivers onto both my backup system and laptop (all three of which are Win 7-64 bit). There was no change in the performance so I will be returning the item tomorrow for a refund.

What's great about it: Ergonomics and features.
What's not so great: Short life-span.
Like another reviewer, I had not used this for a while, not having the time to play PC games. When I initially used it, I was very happy with the design and performance. The last time I tried to use it, it had developed a rudder drift to the right. After several hours of researching online and attempting the recommended fixes, I gave up and have consigned it to the garbage. No amount of tweaking, driver updating, or dismantling and cleaning did any good. It will not allow me to make an adjustment to compensate for the drift, making it useless. When I first purchased it a year ago, it was getting great reviews, which is why I bought it. I do not play a lot of air sims, mainly Red Baron 3D, so it didn't have a lot of hours on it when it went South on me. Research this product if you are considering a purchase.

I bought this joystick just over a year ago and haven't used it that often. I pulled it out the other day and found that the rudder control didn't work. I really thought this was an innovative design with all of the adjustability, but the fact is, it's just not tough enough for moderate use.

What's great about it: Great Value -- Best joystick at this price point.
What's not so great: Could use some included hardware to mount it.
I just need to begin by clarifying that either the previous products sent out by saitek on this Cyborg X have been very sub par,.. or people are quite rough on their equipment, etc.
This product , for , currently, $44, is the best joystick in its price range, for its purpose on the market. Hands down. Sure, for twice the price there is much better, but the same applies to just about everything.
In my opinion, with the value of things currently, this is the joystick to buy for anyone, even low level users who VERY casually game with flight sims, or very non complex games.
Why? The cheaper joysticks of 20-35$ just don't provide the options , durability, and functionality found at this joysticks level.
No, the buttons aren't broken out of the box.
All buttons work, and work as intended.
No they don't break off and quit functioning easily. I've had one for two years and everything works just as the day I purchased.
For a HOTAS , for those who don't know (aka: Hands on throttle and stick) controller this exceeds the basics and begins to delve into the more sophisticated functions.
It posesses 13 Buttons. Which is a perfect number not becoming excessively complicated and hard to remember while blasting past the typical 4-6 button controllers who require the joystick, keyboard AND mouse all the be in front of you to play the game properly.
You can adjust this joystick every way imaginable. It has several adjustments, to fit your hand (no matter how large or small -- AND to tilt most positions and areas of the stick to your preference. I find a little height adjustment is all necessary for my own preference, but if you are picky, you can adjust it extensively.
Further, the Dual throttle is nice,.. is has perfect resistance which allows for very accurate throttle adjustment during flight. You can lock or unlock it for single or dual engine operation -- Or lock it to operate all engines at once.
The 'head/top' of the controller has the typical trigger in front, with 4 buttons on back which can be programmed to any function. In the middle of these 4 buttons if has a center 'hat switch' to usually move the camera position in your aircraft (but can be changed to anything you want). Below this is a wheel that moves up and down.. usually with the thumb.. and for example in a flight sim is useful for Flap extension and retraction -- but can be used for trim, or just simple button controls of any kind.
At the base,.. in easy reach -- there is an isolated button in the middle, which I use as a master switch to auto pilot. Just to the left of this on the base, there are 4 more buttons -- which can be mapped to anything you like -- I like to map them to commonly used Autopilot functions like Auto Throttle (TOGA), Speed Hold, ALt Hold, Hdg HOld, and so on. For quick and easy operation of the auto pilot without any need of the keyboard.
Just in front of the throttle lever, are two more buttons -- which I map to Landing gear extension and retraction and either GPS/Nav control or FD engagement and disengagement. Point is -- with this virtual instrument control box on the side of my stick -- I can keep my hands ON the joystick and quickly adjust things that I previously had to leave the joystick and go to the keyboard and mouse to do.
IE: I can take off -- and quickly after this , I can set the FD, Auto Throttle, Speed Hold, Alt Hold, Pull Gear up, and Flaps to Zero so I don't damage them with speed - and have a stable aircraft with a few flicks of a button while hanging onto the main stick for control and safety.
This is a good step up for someone who needs enough buttons and functionality to utilize games without having to use the keyboard and mouse but don't want 250 button combinations to confuse them. If you find yourself needing more down the road,.. then an upgrade will be in your future, but at $44, again, this can't be beat at this time.
The next stick I would recommend after this, or in its place if you have the money and can justify the need is the X52 which is about $100. They go up and up in price and functionality. You can have a virtual cockpit in front of you if you put enough money into it.
I value reviews greatly, and I was hesitant seeing reviews reporting the buttons not working out of the box, them physically breaking off.. the stick not working due to driver conflicts etc -- which just isn't the case with sensible handling. I'm not saying there will never be a problem with a 40 dollar joystick,.. just that don't let that scare you off.
Worst case scenario, you get it.. there is a problem.. you take it back and go for a different model. There is little risk from "best buy".
As for the fundamental movement, holding of calibration, sensitivity and such of a "joystick" it handles like a dream.. the tension is great. Beyond this is folds and breaks down quite a bit... if space were of some concern. Personally sitting it aside at its current size is no big deal and I can't imagine needing to break it down, but I'm sure there are reasons to do so (ie: travel) and it very easily does so.
Well worth the money.
Cons:
Hrmm.. I would prefer the base have some sort of packaged mounting hardware -- (it has places for you to mount it.. hardware is just not included) -- this isn't a big deal, but if you wanted a solid immovable stick.. this would be necessary.
I guess more 'built in profiles" for common games could be a plus. But personally I've always found it necessary to map the keys to MY own preference. No pre-determined profile every fit my own preference. But some may like it as a point of reference. It does have software built in to map any key combination to any button, which is powerful.
I've heard tech support isn't so great -- but I've never tried it. It is an affordable joystick.. Not sure what tech support would be for to be honest.
Good luck!

What's not so great: A few minor software glitches.
This is very nice for x-plane including the dual locking throttle control for twin-engine aircraft. There are a few glitches however in the programming, but they were fixable. I think this is great for those new to flight simulation. Easy to use, plenty of programmable buttons, and a throttle control to boot.

What's not so great: Build quality and functionality.
The feature set is good for the price and it looks nice which is what made me decide on it. This was a very poor decision, right out of the box 2 of the buttons didn't work. I returned it and the new one had 1 button that didn't work, I figured I'd live with it. Within one month, half the buttons (literally) stopped working. The manufacturer support for this product is horrid. I highly recommend looking to an alternative stick.

What's great about it: The WHOLE THING... in the first few months, then things just kinda start to stop working one by one.
What's not so great: It's only good for about 4months or so of use(if you use it almost every day) but as i said would be great for a backup.
I bought this joystick about a year ago to replace my first joystick. It was a dream at first, so much more realistic than what i was using. I fly in FSX all the time and so its seen it fair share of bumpy approaches and easy going flights as well. After a few months i started to notice it was getting a little stiff when you would first try to move it. I shrugged it off. Then it started to pull the plane to the left with out me doing anything(not much just like BARELY moving.) which told me something was off kilter, but i never found the reason. Then the little view thing where you push it to move around quit working(u cant look down unless you hold it for about 3 or 4 seconds). And most recently the rudder started to pull to the left as well, but it stopped. and the #2 button snapped when i was flying because i have to use buttons for trim, because FSX wont recognize the trim wheel. and when i was adjusting the trim the button made a snap, it didnt fall off but its loose and the button only works if i hit it a certain way. If I were you, i would look into a different joystick, unless your just gonna use this as a backup if you travel cause it does stow away VERY well. Save up and get the Logitech Flight System G940.

What's great about it: Good features
What's not so great: If you have little pc knowledge tricky setup
Either some people got factory defects or have zero computer skills. After reading some of the reviews I was a little hesitant to buy this stick. But I figured I'd give it a try. I have Windows 7 64-bit and it took me less than 5 min to set this up. Let me say this though DO NOT USE THE ENCLOSED DISK. Also DO NOT JUST PLUG IT IN and think that because windows says it is ready to use it is. It is not. You must go to the cyborg website and download the drivers for your OS from there. After you do that run the setup it does everything for you. I play FSX and IL2 Sturmovik with it and have had no problems setting it up. It works well for both. Plenty of buttons, twist rudder pedals, and dual throttle control.

I am a licensed pilot and purchased it for instrument training for Microsoft x There is too much play in the joystick and a stupid allen wrench provided to make adjustments that strips the threads.

What's great about it: Great hardware
What's not so great: Vista/Win7 64 bit drivers are dangerous to your system
The joystick hardware is great. Lots of programmable buttons and fairly comfortable grip. I have Vista 64 bit and the driver seems to be a problem. It works fine until you make the mistake of unplugging it while the computer is running. If you do that then you will end up reinstalling it. Eventually it crashed during a reinstall and I ended up doing a system repair to get my computer back. I'm trying to work with Saitek on this, but so far no response.
