What's great about it: convenient because you don't have to use the touchpad
What's not so great: goes through batteries
I like this mouse, however I ended up buying this one and a different one as a gift for my mate -- I like his better. He hasn't had to change the batteries once since Christmas and I have -- twice (always forgetting to turn the darn thing off -- but he can leave his on all the time). Otherwise, it's great a mouse for the money -- and since I'm not a big fan of laptop touchpads for mice, it works.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
