What's great about it: Easy install, works as expected
What's not so great: No SATA power adapter
Bought 2 units and installed them in HP P6000-series computers because they did not have dual density burners. I love HP computers because installing a drive is very easy; no tools required. The drives came with SATA data cables, but no power cable. I had to buy SATA adaptors for power. Otherwise, no problems. Both computers recognized the new drives right away (Windows 7 OS). Everything works fine and I am a happy camper.

What's not so great: Software
Box clearly shows it comes with Nero Essential Software Suite but just to be sure I asked a salesman, he agreed that's what it said.
After installing with no problem, Windows 7 immediately recognized it. When I grabbed the software disk I found it was Cyperlink Media Suite 8. Lite version of Powertogo and Mediashow and trial ver of Power Backup, Director and DVD. I don't normally like to buy HP but did because of the Nero, very disappointed.

What's not so great: Needs a IDE to SATA power adapter
I purchased this burner to replace the LG model that died in my Dell XPS 600 computer. The LG model was IDE and this one is SATA. I had no problems installing the burner and connecting to the extra SATA ports that I have on my motherboard. However if you replace a IDE unit make sure you have power connector adapter (IDE to SATA) so you can connect to the new unit. This unit does not include a power adapter. Also check your computers set up in order to disable the IDE connection for the old unit and enable the SATA port for the new one. Windows XP had no problem finding the new unit and installing drivers. A test burn produced excellent results.

What's not so great: did not work
regretfully, this drive did not work. I installed it into 3 pcs, and no pc could see it. I have been building and working with computers since the 70's. I have installed many a hard drive. I could not get this drive to work. Very frustrating, since it should have been so simple. And, since all I would have gotten was a credit, and I would have had to bring it to Seattle from Whidbey, I still have it. Guess it will make a good door stop.
One other thing: I built these 3 pcs in 2005 (intel 2.6G proc, 1.6G mem). I suppose it is possible my pc's are too old to see this drive, but I don't buy into that.
As for my tech experience, I have a degree in electronics, IT, an A+, Net+, and Sec+ certs. and worked 30 yrs in electroincs industry. FYI.
One other thing: I built these 3 pcs in 2005 (intel 2.6G proc, 1.6G mem). I suppose it is possible my pc's are too old to see this drive, but I don't buy into that.

This burner works better than the one that came with our computer but I had problems with it when trying to import multiple CD's back to back. I had to fool around with it to make it recognize the CD.

One of the simplest drives to install. Took me a whole 5 min, and I have been building PC's for gaming for over 10 years. The novice can do it in maybe 10 min. Plug in SATA cable (must have for this drive and it is included; a plus) then power plug, then 2 screws your done. Works fast, recognized by Windows installs perfectly no drivers needed. Very satisfied, does all it says it does and quickly.

The drive that came in my HP computer decided to stop working on me. So I picked one of these 1260i drives up. No issues with installing the drive at all, quick and easy 2 plugs. Didn't need to install the NERO software (already have Roxio on computer). Works great, I use the drive to install and run software/games daily. Would recommend to anyone looking for a good affordable name brand drive.

What's great about it: Wondows XP reconizes the DVD 1260i
What's not so great: Price is a little to high
My old DVD player wans't reconizing DVD disks, so I bought the HP 1260i after doing some research and reading reviews. Good points are the SETA cable is included with the product and after installation and powering up the computer Windows XP instantly reconized the HP 1260i and installed the driver for it. I put in my DVD disk and the new drive reconized it with no problem and I was back in business. Couple of drawbacks: The price is a little too high, it could be around $30-$35 and if you not experienced removing and installing components from your computer you might have a problem because the installation instructions are not that good. If you don't have a SETA power connection, you going to have to buy an adapter for it. Other than that it works just fine.

I purchased one of these units while it was on sale for 10 bucks cheaper. Brought it home, installed it and Windows 7 64 bit would not even recognize it. This does not come with the SATA power adapter either. Needless to say after hours of trying to get it to work I ended up taking it back to BestBuy and getting my old trusty brand LG. Installed it and NO problems and LG has the power adapters and SATA cable.

What's great about it: It does music very easy and quickly. I burned ten cd's once in about ten minutes to be honest!!!!
What's not so great: Would have liked some DVD burning software by Nero with it.
As for the HP DVD RW drive, it works fantastic for my needs and installation was very easy for me to do. It burns CD's in a fast and timely manner and I can't say enough about the quality of the product. Best burner I ever had and would recommend it to everyone who wants a top quality burner for the price it's worth it!!!!!!!!!!

Drive works pretty good, noisy and after install didn't want to read disc. Restarted computer and everything worked after that. The Nero programs are a joke took forever to install and first video I tried to watch it said I needed an upgrade to watch video and linked me to website where they wanted $70 to upgrade the program. Not a bad purchase if you only have enough money to buy this product, other than that get something little better if you can.

What's not so great: It does not come with adequate directions. I've tried to use it 3 times, but have not been able to figure it out.
I haven't been able to use it yet, because I can't figure out how to use it. It may be the best product in the world for all I know, but the directions are totally inadequate. If you're at IT wiz, go ahead and get this product. But if you're like me and you need directions when it comes to computer products, don't get this.
