What's great about it: Has all of the DVR functions
I needed a uiversal remote to replace my cable/ dvr remote which functioned as a universal remote. I tried several so call "DVR" ready remotes to no avail! Some ot the buttons just did not work. This remote was perfect - it has all of the same buttons my Time Warner remote had, including the ABC, On Demand and Live functions that I had a hard time finding. I highly recommennd for anyone who has a cable/ dvr remote.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Easy to program. Cable box was already programmed in. Very easy to use. Replaced the cable company's remote.

What's great about it: Controls everything in my living room
What's not so great: Learning curve if you're unfamiliar with JP1 remotes
This $20 remote is just as powerful as some of the models selling for $200+, IF you know your way around a computer and are willing to learn how to program it. This remote features the JP1 (JP1.3, to be exact) interface. Using a JP1 cable and the JP1 interface software, you can program this remote to control darn near anything with an infrared sensor. I've programmed mine to control my Insignia NS-BRDVD3 Blu-ray player, and it works much better than the stock remote. It controls everything in my living room (except my three-year-old!). Why pay $$$ for a Harmony when you can pay $ for this, put in a little bit of your own knowledge, and get a more customizable result?
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: I have an Apex Tv that came with a really horrible remote. This one is awesome and does everything!
What's not so great: Can take a moment to figure out - but eventually you can program everything.
RCA has other remotes - this one is the best as far as capabilities and durability. It also works with DirectTV even though RCA makes a "dedicated" satellite one - this one works and is made better.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Controls Motorola Cable Box/DVR perfectly right out of the package
What's not so great: Instructions aren't correct for some functions
Once the programming is complete this is a great remote control. It works perfectly with the Motorola DCX3400 DVR that the cable company provided to me and it isn't missing any DVR function buttons from my original remote control.
Be aware that the instructions that are provided don't correctly say how to program the Volume Lock function. I found the correct instructions through a simple internet search:
1. Press the device button for the device you want to have the Volume Buttons Locked Onto.
2. Hold Setup Button until it blinks twice.
3. Press 9-9-3
4. Press the device buttons for those that you want reassigned.
5. Press Setup Button.

3. Press 9-9-3

5. Press Setup Button.
Example: "Press AUD, Hold Setup, 9-9-3, TV, CBL, DVD, Setup Button". Now all Volume control while under TV, CBL, and DVD will be sent through the AUD device functions.

What's great about it: Works great to replace the cable box remote
What's not so great: Some significant features don't work
I bought this remote because I have four devices to control (HD Monitor, Cable box, DVD/VCR player, and stereo receiver for audio) and wanted to use only one remote.
All the Cable box buttons worked right out of the package without looking up a code for my cable box (Motorola DCH3200). I found and programmed the codes for the other three devices without too much trouble.
By default, the VOL+, VOL- and MUTE buttons are Globally Locked to the TV regardless of which device is active. The instructions say you can unlock the volume for any one single device while maintaining the other locks. This does not work. Unlocking any one device unlocks them all.
Additionally, the instruction say AUD volume is not locked to the TV and the volume buttons will target the AUD device when the AUD device is active. This is wrong too. When globally locked, all volume changes target the TV.
And, the instructions indicate you can globally lock the volume buttons to one specific device, either TV or AUD. I wanted to lock volume in all modes to AUD but that doesn't work either.
The volume lock feature of this remote is really messed up.
The Master Power button is another one that doesn't work properly. You are supposed to be able to program the Power button to power on/off multiple devices with one touch of the Power button, but I couldn't get that to work. Fortunately one of the Macro buttons can be configured to turn power on/off to all the devices in sequence.
I'm pretty disappointed that these features don't work. Where were the QA guys when they tested and release this thing?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Bought an RCA remote because my TV was an RCA and can't get it to work with my TV. Works cable box and dvd fine.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
