What's great about it: Works out of the box, change dpi on the fly, comfortable shape, fast scroll mode, adjustable weight, smooth and accurate
What's not so great: Looks, I guess.
After recently trying the razer death adder, I would say this mouse is WAY better. The death adder looks (blue leds) and feels (texture) better, but that's where it ends.
This mouse just works right out of the box - plug it in, done. If you want more adjustments, download and install the logitech software. No reboots, no windows 7 compatibility issues, no blue screens.
The death adder had a better feel, texture-wise - glossy sides and a rubbery top - whereas this one has...kind of gritty sides and a sort of...matte finish on top. But the overall shape of this mouse fits my hand much better - my hand feels...secure and comfortable on top of this mouse, whereas it felt like it was falling off of the back of the death adder. This mouse feels better from a weight standpoint too (it's adjustable, I have it as heavy as it will go#.
This mouse is noticeably more smooth and accurate than my old mice - and WAY moreso than the death adder #for me, I know others have had good experiences with that mouse# - and without having to buy a special gaming mousepad #tested on finished wood desk, and goldtouch mousepad).
The fast scroll mode is...actually...more useful than I'd have thought - and the on-the-fly adjustable dpi just rocks - the buttons to adjust don't get in the way, but are very easily accessible. I haven't programmed the other three buttons to do anything yet - but they are also out of the way, but easily accessible.
Installing the logitech software was...not too difficult...but not "dead easy" either. Also, the profiles seem to be limited to one windows user - if another user tries to mess with them, you will have to re-associate the mouse on your user...mildly annoying, but won't be problematic for me.
Overall, I really, really, like this mouse.

Pros: it fits nicely to your hand, dpi buttons, threaded wire, side scrolling, and the grip.
Cons: paint wears off after a few days of gaming, buttons are hard to reach, rough grip, and loud scrolling.
Overall it's a good mouse if you don't care about the paint or the loudness.

Don't buy this mouse. Search the internet. You'll find many users having the same problem. I have this mouse for 4 months only. Not worth the price and Logitech might even refuse RMA. Like I said search the internet before buying this mouse.

What's great about it: too many
What's not so great: on board memory only stores 1 set of profile
This mouse is gorgeous. High DPI laser tracking, nice grip, macro support, on board memory, lots of buttons, weight tuning and high polling rate - G500 has them all i mean it wont get so easily outclassed. Its basically a buffed MX518 and the true successor of G5.

What's great about it: Comfort, ergonomic, extra features.
What's not so great: Nothing.
I had been using the previous Logitech G5 mouse for 5 years but it was time to upgrade to a new mouse. Since I had such good experience with the G5 I decided to get the G500. The G500 felt comfortable in my hand right away and took no time getting used to since I was using the old G5. The mouse's new features are very welcome and make the PC experience that much better. The extra buttons are very helpful and the option to pick which kind of scroll wheel you can use is very handy when having to scroll a lot. The new design doesn't hurt the eyes. All in all, a great mouse for any user.

What's not so great: Dosen't feel solid like the G5, Annoying scroll wheel rattle
After using a Logitech G5 for many years it finally gave out. I loved that mouse so I figured the G500 is just what I needed. Wrong!! The G500 just feels cheaply made, it doesn't feel solid in my hand like the G5. The plastic it's made of looks and feels cheap, the scroll wheel rattles like it belongs in the baby's crib. The DPI buttons are to hard to reach. The back button is to far back (I have contort my thumb to use it). The button to unlock the scroll wheel feels like it will break any second. If the G5 is a Cadillac then the G500 is a Yugo. I own many Logitech products but this mouse just dosen't get for me. The more I use it the more I hate it.

What's great about it: Decent Price, not overly complicated.
What's not so great: Uncomfortable for a girl with small hands, buttons not in-game programmable without pre-programming.
Let me start by saying that I usually love logitech products, I have used their mice since forever and when my wireless keyboard and mouse started acting up I figured it was time to go back to wired. I was terribly excited to find this on sale, plugged it in and after figuring out and messing with the DPI I was pretty cool with that too. I figured I would test drive it on my staple game, WOW. I heal, and I have a good chunk of my abilities macro'd to my mouse so comfort is big since I move and click a lot, especially in PVP. After only a few hours I was disappointed. While the mouse does in fact have 10 buttons it is difficult to use all of them if you have a small hand like me. Two of these buttons are for DPI so using them for macros isn't really viable if you want to have them available for DPI adjustment. They are also nearly impossible to reach, so not usable. The side button in the center was easily reachable, but not easily programmable. Also I cramped up pretty fast because its just slightly too big for my hand. I fiddled around with the accompanying software but was already dissatisfied so I found the process of setting up macros and button commands out of game annoying and time consuming. If you are quicker at programming random junk than I, this is probably a good mouse for you, but if you are looking for something you can easily program in game and not fiddle with, look else where. I already packaged it back up, along with a dynex keyboard that didn't work, to return tomorrow. If my husband doesn't want it, and we don't return it for some reason It will be a gift to my brother in law, since they both have bigger hands and would probably get better use of the out of game programming since they would use it for more games than I would, since I would only be using it for 2-3 games. I think I am going to either stick with my wireless 5-button or look into the deathadder from razor.

What's great about it: Updated classic
What's not so great: Terrible quality control
I love the design and features of this mouse, except for the awkward thumb button setup. The ergonomics of Logitech's classic mouse are slightly improved on this model. Unfortunately, I went through three of these mice and was not able to find one without a show-stopping defect. The first mouse creaked audibly whenever I rested my hand on it or clicked the left button. The next two mice had scroll wheels that jumped simply from moving the mouse, or even when the mouse is at rest. I've used several other Logitech models with frictionless scrolling, and they do not have this problem. The mouse is still useable with the lock on the scroll-wheel engaged, but then I might as well use my old MX518. The ultra-high DPI is useless. If margins are really that low on this product, I suggest Logitech invest less in whizz-bang technology and more in simple quality control.

What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: nothing...
I just purchased this mouse this week and it by far the best mouse I've ever used and I was a RAZER fan before this beauty... I've owned 2 previous RAZER mouses that do not come close to the comfort, accuracy and ease of use as this one provides.. If you have a speed/control hard mat like I do, well then it does indeed get better... I use the max weight allowed with this mouse and it's perfect... If your a gamer, then this is your mouse.... All I can say is, "enjoy" Thanks Logitech...

What's great about it: Cord is nice... for a cord
What's not so great: Sandpaper texture on sides, thumb buttons poorly positioned
When I bought this mouse it was on sale for $50 so I gave it a shot based on the good reviews. The mouse itself isn't that bad, however I would like to change the shape of it a bit to be more ergonomic. The part that I couldn't stand that gave me cause to return it is the side grips: they feel like sandpaper after a day of use. Your hand sweats and the material on the sides makes your hand itch. Despite the positive features of this mouse, I decided to stick with my basic Logitech wireless (I believe it is the previous version of the M510 - it came in a package with the Wave keyboard.) Neither the keyboard nor the mouse are ideal for gaming, and I've had them for awhile and am looking for replacements. The new MX 5500 package looks awesome for work and play but I just can't justify dropping $160 on that. I do not recommend this mouse if you are going to be using it for long periods of time, as when gaming, because the sandpaper texture, while not very noticeable at first, will become a terrible nuisance. You can't focus on the game when you're constantly wiping your hand on your pants and avoiding touching the mouse due to the uncomfortable texture made even worse from sweat caused by intense use. Perhaps if this mouse came with alternate sides, similar to the G9X, it might be tolerable, as I found the buttons relatively easy to access. Speaking of buttons, the three thumb buttons are very hard to distinguish. By touch alone it is very hard to determine which button you are hitting and this is a problem when using keybindings - which is the reason the buttons are there!

What's great about it: Functionality, Compatibility, Feel
What's not so great: Price
Gamers need a wired mouse, because you don't want your controls dropping on you mid-game because the battery ran out!
Everything works as expected with this mouse even in the Window 7 64-bit environment. It's a completely hassle free mouse in this environment. While some gaming mice seem to be behind the curve when it comes to compatibility with newer 64-bit operating systems, this one works without error.
I have the polling set to 1ms. I noticed the instantaneous response in the FPS-type games. I like how you can dial down the dpi on the fly during FPS-type games to precisely line up shots and then quickly switch it to a higher level when you're navigating your way around the map. You can setup application-specific mouse profiles with associated customized controls. This can come in handy for both games and your favorite design or productivity tools.
The thumb buttons are conveniently located and I only think the front-most thumb button is a little akward to reach.
The feel of the mouse is great. It's got a bit of a rough texture around the outside of it that you get used to within 20 minutes. The dpi switch buttons are perfectly-sized and perfectly-placed - just out of the way at the front left edge of the left mouse button so you never click them unintentionally, though they are right there when you want to make the switch.
The weights don't really do a lot for me, but I occasionally switch them around to see if they make a difference and I don't notice the change or any difference at all after about a minute.
I have the thumb buttons and side-scrolling functions customized and programmed for MOH. It works great. You can program macros and assign them to some of the buttons within the Logitech software.
Even though I'm satisfied with the functionality of this product, I took a star off because I really don't think any mouse should cost this much.
Note-I downloaded the latest software and drivers from the Logitech site before doing anything else. I have found - no matter the product or brand - this strategy to be is the best way to avoid issues when adding anything to your PC setup.

What's great about it: Customizable, comfortable, responsive
What's not so great: MAYBE the DPI placement (but not many people use that in time-sensitive gaming situations)
This mouse is by far the best gaming mouse I have found. The three thumb-side buttons are perfectly placed (you don't stumble over them), the texture of the finish feels great, and the mouse itself is extremely responsive.
The ONLY downside I could see to this mouse (which doesn't affect me at all) is that the DPI increase/decrease buttons are pretty far up on the left-click side of the mouse. If you are the type to continually change sensitivity on the fly, I could see this being a difficulty for you.

What's great about it: the shape, feel, and love the button location
What's not so great: software, read up before purchasing this mouse it has been a real pain
It does not even come close to the razor. I game all the time. I have compatibility issues with this mouse. The mouse changes the dpis on its own. It will not hold the setting. I cannot get the tab to come up for the mouse settings. I have reinstalled the drivers 3 times. I have read about others with the same problems and thought they were not installing the software properly or know how to use the logitec program so I purchased the mouse anyway. I have played this mouse for 8 months and cannot take it any more tomorrow I'll get a razor. I'm running windows 7 if that helps.
