Good quality, easy to use and really good focus on several people and objects at different positions from the camera. Picks up sound much better than older cameras I've had.

What's not so great: nothing
I use my camera to skype with family on east coast, I have a 3 year old grandson, Who I dont get to see very often . So this is great we can talk and see each other. Got it before the holidays and watching him open christmas presents was really something special to me.

What's great about it: Love it for talking to the family around the country & when I travel. Great picture and audio

Bought this Life-Cam to use with Skype when travelling for work - thus enabling me to phone home from anywhere in the world and have a face-to-face with my family.
This camera is excellent. I have read various complaints about installation and other things. I have installed (and used) it on 2 XP machines and one Win7 machine and works great on all of them. It is so good that we have bypassed the internal web-cam/microphone on our Win7 laptop and prefer to use the Life-Cam for all of our Skyping needs. I may have to buy another one for travelling now!
Picture is good, microphone is good. There are also some features that allow you to distort/morph pictures and other fun things - but I haven't really used them, so no comment on their "quality".
For a Skype camera, you will not be disappointed. I have recommended this camera to 4 family members and they all love it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: picture quality is amazing, super easy to use
What's not so great: when watching recorded video, you expect to hear yourself to say "Luke, I am your father"; the audio skips
I bought this about 10 months ago and it worked great up until about 4 months ago. the video looks great but the audio starts to skip and the pitch is lowered to the point that I sound like Darth Vader. I might just need to upgrade to the newer model. I used this camera mostly for product reviews and live webcasts with a little time lapse photography on the side and it worked great. overall it is a good webcam for about a year then it starts to act strange, of course it could just be my computer.
I would recommend this to a friend!

software loaded great. when it came time to install the camera had multiple error messages, failure to load messages, missing file messages. this was the last straw. Apple, here I come.

What's not so great: Installation error you can not work around, no matter what.
This webcam is really meant for very high-end new computers with souped up capabilities that most people don't have, let alone the silver HD version of the same webcam that Windows can't even support yet.
Whenever I tried to install the software I would get, "Installation cant continue" and an error that directs you to a Microsoft page. Not only did I follow exactly their support suggestions but I updated the BIOS, updated to service pack 3, re-installed .net framework and windows installer, uninstalled any old programs and freed up more than enough disk space. But it still wont get past 40% into installing! I found many forum posts of people with the same exact problem and not ONE had a workable solution. My computer met the minimum specifications and I followed all of Microsofts suggestions but to no avail.
Very dissapointed in having software that no matter what will not install so you can not use your webcam or any of the effects. Brought this back to Best Buy the very next day. Please google error message 973297 and see for yourself how many people had this problem and there is not one working solution. The only thing I can think of was that Microsoft made these high-powered webcams that won't work on "old" computers (2007 hp pavillion) so that people will consider upgrading their computer and thus more money for Microsoft. Really research this error before dropping 60$ and your time and energy on something that you can't even use.

What's not so great: Clarity could be improved utilizing the 1080 unit.
I bough the 720 instead of the 1080 and the projection clarity suffers because of the $10.00 dollar saving's .

What's great about it: Easy set up and great price on sale.
I don't have DSL or Fiber Optics available yet. The HughesNET I do have isn't worth a d--- to use the camera. Researched cameras but forgot to research internet. Picture of just me on screen is sharp and tracks beautifully. All things being equal I'd recommend to anyone.

What's not so great: No manual focus (but auto-focus works good)
In summary this is the best webcam I've ever used. The best feature is the image quality which has high resolution and looks natural (unlike many cams which are grainy and tend to wash out or over saturate color).
Construction is high quality although I wish it had a lens cap for travel. It's not as big as one might think. The face is about the size of a U.S. quarter and it is about as long as a door key. The foot is flexible and allows you to point the camera in almost any direction or attach it to a flat monitor.
Picture quality is outstanding even in low light. The field of view is wider than most cameras and the wide-screen format increases it even more. There are image controls that pop up in the system tray when you use the camera. There are not many controls here: zoom, pan, auto-color enhancements, brightness, and a flicker control. Auto-color works very well creating a natural look. Flicker control is useful if pointing it at a TV or monitor. Seems to have face-detection because there are a bunch of built-in motion tracking effects which are fun to play with (like one that puts a 3D hat on your head).
Auto-focus is fast. It can focus on things as close as about 1 inch.
I have not yet used the microphone so I cannot comment on that.
I have used the camera with Netmeeting, MSN chat, and some proprietary collaboration software--works perfect for all. There is no way to manually focus the camera hence it may not work for Mac/Linux (or at least it may not focus) or any computer w/o the LifeCam driver--I have not tested that myself yet but other reviews had said as much.

Installed this webcam on my PC with Windows Vista 32 bit. I am impressed, the wide angle legs, the clarity and autofocus is just amazing. Beautiful 720P HD picture....a great investment for $55 bucks. Used it with Skype (tested between laptop and pc) and i was totally blown away by the picture quality, even in low light conditions it's gives a bright picture. Very happy with this product.

This camera only works with Microsoft Live Messenger. It does not work with Skype. I am running Windows 7 64 bit, and it did not work right. I would get a Logitech instead, which works great. Don't buy it, unless all you used is Messenger.

I bought two of these initially, and one would not focus. I returned it, and Best Buy handled it promptly, and the second unit has been great. Great clarity and easy to hook-up and use!

I was going out of town on vacation and I wanted to be able to see my kids while I was gone so I purchased this web-cam. The picture and sound quality were great. It allowed us to see other and lessen the anxiety of being apart. Great product with HD quality.

Great piece of hardware and gets the job done. I only wish it had better than 10 fps at its higher resolutions but I guess you can only push so much data through a USB cable. Worked great with Windows XP pro and 7 starter which is what I've used it on. I've used it with and without the special software that comes with it, and both works and has their pros and cons. Plug and play!

What's great about it: I wouldn't know. I could never get the software to launch.
What's not so great: As of the date of this review MS does not have a fix/patch
Purchased the camera 4/09/10 and returned it 4/30/10 after I troubled shooted for 3wks with no success. The software & install went without error but the camera's software won't launch. Strangely enough I could still use the camera in Skype but the picture quality was poor. Because I could not launch the software I never had access to the camera settings to adjust them and the default settings prevented me from accessing them through Skype. There are a ton of suggested fixes if you google them but I didn't have success with any of them and MS only offers updated drivers. I suggest you select a nother camera.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

To get my system or webcam to work I had a Geek to come in house to teach and clear up my computer. I am still in the learning process and have not come to a complete approval. I did have a friend puchase same webcam and members of my family are coming online too.

What's not so great: Software wouldn't install, but Plug ad Play worked.
Bought this camera for Skype and it works flawlessly. It doesn't track, but it has auto-focus and is very crisp and clear.
