What's great about it: Simple and sometimes worked great. But sometimes isn't good enough.
What's not so great: Erratic performance. Can't depend on it.
Sometimes this device worked great; at other times it was completely wrong. The last time I used it before returning it for a refund, I was trying to return to my car. It told me to go in the opposite direction of the car, and even when I was sitting in the driver's seat, it was telling me that it was 200 feet in the opposite direction from which I had come. Luckily this time I knew where I was. Makes me shudder to think what would happen if I really had been relying on this unit.
This product has... Large/easy to see screen, Simple controls, Easy to read
About me... Budget Conscious, Use for outdoor activities (i.e. hiking, hunting, fishing), casual user

What's great about it: Great concept.
What's not so great: Did not work.
I was very excited to get this item. I am planing a hunting trip and was going to use this. I walked away from my house for a good distance and it was leading me away from my house when I was walking back. I knew where my house was and I walked towards it but this was leading me way off the the side of it. Enough that in the woods I would have been lost. If I can not trust it to do the job it was meant to, it has not place in my pack. I returned it.

What's great about it: It helps you get back to where you started from.
What's not so great: A little too big. I wish it had more of a pedometer feature where you knew exactly how far you walked.
I like it a lot, however, it is bigger than expected. I wish that it had more of a pedometer feature to where you knew exactly how far you walked instead of how far away you are from your locaton because it considers the distance back from the shortest way.

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Inaccurate - not repeatable - heading constantly hunts
I am not inclined to write negative reviews, but the BackTrack is such a poor product that I must. Compass heading hunts plus/minus 30 degrees just sitting on a table, and heading back to target it is consistently off by 30 to as much as 90 degrees. Example - I set the location on my front steps, in the open - satellite icon showed good signal, and walked to the end of my block, a bit over 400 yards according to the readout. I could see my house straight ahead, but the unit was showing it to be 45 degrees to the left. I returned to my steps and the distance showed 47 yards instead of zero. That's a pretty huge error if you are trying to find your car in a big parking lot. Also, it takes forever to acquire a signal. If you wanted to use it to locate your car after you've been shopping in a mall, you'd be halfway home before the thing showed a signal lock. Great idea, poorly executed. It's going back.

What's great about it: User friendly, Good Price
My father in law was very excited when he received this as a Christmas present. It's just what he needs for hunting. When tracking an animal, it keeps track of where you've been and helps you find your way back with little no problem at all.

What's great about it: Easy to use, just press a button and your location is locked in
What's not so great: You can only add three locations.
I bought this for hiking. It will always return you to the location you locked into the Bushnell BackTrack. We went for hours hiking in the snow in the Sierras and it got cold and wet. We turn Bushnell BackTrack on and pushed to return to our car. It took us right back with no problems. In parking garage it did take a little longer to lock on to our location, but it did return us to our car in the 5000 plus parking garage at SFO after being gone two days. I highly recommend it for hikers. It's easy and inexpensive GPS device.

What's great about it: The Backtrack is easy to use and is quite accurate.
What's not so great: takes a little while to start up
The Backtrack by Bushnell is quite accurate . I have been using it the past few weeks and noting my start up location(waypoint) the unit counts down the distance to your preset waypoint. It has got me to within a few feet of my location before it reads 0 on the dial. You can set 3 waypoints if so desired. You can also just use it as a compass. I had heard it`s best to not be right next to your car when setting the waypoint so as not mess up your setting .I havn`t found that to be a factor . 4 stars because it may be a little slow to lock on the satellites when powered up.This not a unit to geocache with , but serves it`s purpose very well in finding your way bay to a preset location.

What's great about it: small emough to fit in pocket
What's not so great: nothing as of yet
As an advertised item, one would think the stores would have them in stock, but as it turns out I was told that the Store NEVER had them and the item must be ordered on line! The sales clerk was good enough to order it, and I received delivery in about 10 days. We are happy with the small GPS unit. And yes I would recommend the GPS to friends.

What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Takes forever to find the satellite, and it never worked in Manhattan!
Tried to use it in New York City, and it would never find a satellite. After waiting and trying over again for 45 minutes, I gave up on it.
Good thing I didn't really need it - this would not be good if I really were in a place where I needed help finding my way back!

What's great about it: It is simple in design
What's not so great: instruction for use not available with product, had to go to brand website
The product is fine, I like its size and simple design but there were no TRUE instructions for its use. The video on the brand website is worthless. I had to go to the brand web site to get a manual of 5 pages. Still testing its abilities.
It took almost a full month after being shipped to be delivered. It was meant as a Xmas gift, did not make it.
Best Buy needs to find new way to ship product.

What's great about it: Inexpensive GPS/Compass, very practical to use
What's not so great: Just a little slow on initial satellite acquisition
Combined with a mental picture of the area you're in, this GPS can tell you all you need to know about getting to and from three different spots.

What's great about it: Easy to use, accurate, doesn't kill batteries
What's not so great: none
I got this item for Christmas and i took it on my deer hunt a week after. it worked perfectly! Picked up signal even in the deepest part of the woods. I marked the boat launch on arrival and when we were heading out the Arkansas was completely covered with fog. We couldn't even see halfway across. I pulled my Backtrack out and it guided us back to the boat launch about 2 miles away. I am an extremely satisfied owner. Buy this Product!!

What's great about it: easy to use, works as advetised
What's not so great: minor quirkiness
The instructions were easy to follow and the unit was easy to use. My first
test run however, had me thinking that I might have been "duped". I marked my car with the "car" icon and walked away several hundred yards. The digital display showed each step I took by adding another yard as it recorded the distance from my car - exactly according to the instructions.
What did not follow the instructions was that the arrow that was supposed to point back to my shrinking car was acting as if it was confused. It was ever changing direction...mostly in the general direction but seldom pointing directly back to where I could still see my car. As I turned around and started back, the arrow continued "hunting". It really was not much help at all since I could not know with any certainty what direction to follow. I knew where my car was so I could make an accurate assessment of the unit's performance...and it wasn't very good. The yardage that was recorded as I walked away was now counting back as I got closer, so this feature seemed to be accurate. Perhaps, watching this count-down would eventually get one back to his car dispite the fickle arrow but certainly not what is intended. So, how can I give the Back Track 5 stars? I was in a local gun store and saw a display of Back Tracks so I stopped at the counter near the display and related my story to the store clerk. He told me he had heard similar experiences so he asked the Bushnell Factory Rep
that called on them, what to do. The "fix" is this: When you first turn the unit on, it will take a couple of minutes to lock on to the satellites. The icon at the top of the display will tell you when it is locked on. At this point, you may mark your spot (car, tent, etc.). Once it is marked, lay the unit flat in your palm and turn over and over several times. Then as you walk away, at some point, even as close as 20 steps, either repeat the process or, as I do, just flip it around several time while in my coat pocket---no particular technique or system...just turn it over and around a few times. When you begin your return, do the same thing once more. Well, I can't tell you why it works, but it sure does. Now, the yardage count-down and the arrow both direct back with remarkable accuracy. Pretty neat!! One final tip, best accuracy is to hold the unit flat (horizontal).

What's great about it: It works
What's not so great: Does NOT come with REQUIRED two AAA batteries.
The device does NOT come with the two required AAA batteries. The typical bubble pack is difficult to open, unless you utliize a sharp blade. At first try, the battery door is difficult to open until you turn the device face up and allow the back (battery door) to drop off. The device comes with a well designed neck cord.
The Bushnell device allows the user to locate three separate location with a home indicator, car indicator and STAR which can be used for another location. On initial use, it takes several minutes to find the necessary satellites. Finally Bushnell offers ONLY a ONE year LIMITED warranty.
I first noticed this GPS in several catalogs at twice the price.

What's great about it: Not complicated
What's not so great: It didn't work.
It is supposed to direct you back to your car (presumedly in the middle of a parking lot or street), or to your homebase. In Manhattan it didn't do either and I returned the product. If I didn't know where my car was parked, it would not have taken me to it.
