What's great about it: Comfort
What's not so great: Mic quality is really bad in ventrilo and skype
This headset by far the most comfortable headset i have owned but the quality of the mic is horrid it worked for about 2 weeks now nobody in skype or ventrilo can hear me. It amplifies everything in the room so people hear other things besides your voice. Do not buy this headset i do not recommend it at all.

What's great about it: appearance, comfort
What's not so great: surround/level attachment, thin sound, very low max volume, USB cable non-replaceable, almost non-existent surround
Packaging was awesome as is usual with Razer products. I've gone through about 3 or 4 of their mice and am a Razer fan, however, I can't really suggest the advocate the Megaladon for several reasons.
1. Awkward control attachment. I'd much rather see the controls on the headset.
2. USB cable is not detachable so if your dog chews through it, it can't be fixed according to Razer support. This means you if anything happens to the USB cable you're out $150. That being the case I went elsewhere on the 2nd time around and was not disappointed.
3. With full volume, and all surround settings MAXED, this headset still isn't very loud. If you like big booms and realistic surround the Megaladon is NOT a good option. If you like to game LOUD as I do, I wouldn't suggest the Megaladon. If you like soft quiet music, in stereo, you can opt for the non-surround comparable Razer headset that is half the price.
Lots of "squelching" if using a shottie in game. The word "thin" comes to mind. You shouldn't have to max out the EQ/Balance in order to get *close* to a decent volume. You should have to LOWER the level because max volume is too loud. Not the case here.
Headset is very comfortable, and as always, Razer designs, in regards to appearance, always look top notch but I wasn't really planning on looking at this headset all day long as much as I was hoping to get some good use out of it.

What's great about it: the 7.1 surround is amazing, comfortable
What's not so great: the price, they currently don't run with windows 7 64-bit
When i was using these on my old rig i couldn't be happier. The 7.1 in game sound was awsome. Had a little bit of an issue with the mic being to sensitive and picking up background noise or having a constant static sound but was able to adjust that through the Windows control panel and it worked just fine. The ear pieces are very comfortable and breathe pretty well too. They're light but not cheap feeling and they also came with a very nice and durable case.
Recently I've upgraded computers which came with Windows 7 64-bit and have not been able to use these since. The Razer website provided instructions on how to load the latest drivers/firmware but when you click on the link to download the software the page is missing. Through searching the interwebs it appears to be a known issue and has been for quite sometime so before purchasing these you may wanna make sure they'll work with your OS out the box.
So for the past few months these have been a really expensive paper weight. Razer, if you read this can you point me in the right direction or link me to where the latest software is? if not, I'll probably be picking up a Steelseries headset.

What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: nothing
I recently purchased this and I spent a lot of time listening to music and playing games so it gets a lot of use. The sound quality is excellent, they are very comfortable. I have seen other people complain about them not having a swivel point for the earcups but they use the dual wire design that aircraft headsets use so they pivot on the wires and DO fit your head very well. They are cheaper than some of the other high end 7.1 headsets but more expensive than others. I have found them much to my liking and the only thing I wish is that they were Wireless.

What's great about it: Literally everything, I would recommend these to everyone. They sound great, they look great, they are comfortable...
What's not so great: A bit expensive, but definitely worth it, don't waste your money on chinsy 30 dollar headsets, save up for these!
I've been using my Megalodon's for roughly a month now and they are nothing short of a dream come true. The 7.1 surround sound is phenomenal and the bass is beautiful. I did not expect there to be lights on the headset or the inline controls, but there are and they look great.
First, let me tell you, I did do quite a bit of research and I considered several similarly priced options from Logitech, Bose, and even some of Razer's alternatives. The lack of availability of the Megalodon almost turned me away. However, the more I read about them the more I realized the price was right in a sweet spot for design and sound quality, they were slightly more than the Logitech competition and slightly less than the Bose. The Bose are not USB compliant and had no inline sound card, while the Logitech were reported as having problems with some games, specifically Starcraft 2, which was my primary focus. I'm sure both of these are excellent options, but I am so happy I made the choice I did.
Second, un-boxing; I picked these up (a day early I might add, THANKS Best Buy!) on the same day I picked up a new HD monitor and video card with HDMI output. So I spent most of the night dealing with that stuff. But when I finally got a chance to open this mammoth box and saw the rich hard case inside the storage box, I started to get chills. As I unzipped the hard case I saw the fantastic headset. At first I didn't even want to put it on it was so beautiful.
Eventually I picked my self up off the floor and got around to plugging them in. I saw the lights and started to notice the braided cloth outer layer for the cord. The cord is quite long and the inline controls are a nice sturdy weighted box so they can sit on your desk, but the extra strength from the braided cord gives me more confidence that I wont easily pull the cord from the headset if I catch it on the edge of my chair.
These are literally the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn, the ear cups are HUGE and they fit all the way around my ears and even fit over the end of my glasses frame. There is no pinching or discomfort. Since the ear cups are made from soft pillowing velvet and are appropriately cushioned the side of my face never feels itchy or sticky from being pressed against fake leather or plastic-like material.
The sound quality is fantastic, everything is amazingly rich and vibrant, even my 5.1 speaker setup doesn't sound this good. At first I thought I heard some sort of scratchy sounds, but then I realized it was just such clear sound that I could hear all of the ambient sounds from the game, stuff I never heard before. Very cool stuff.
I had to rate these just below excellent for value for price because they are expensive and much more than most people normally pay for a headset. However, if you have the money these are unmatched and I personally doubt I will ever buy another headset again, maybe in 5 years I'll buy another one of these or their next version.
I had to rate these as good for durability because i've only had them for a month so I can't speak to their long term durability. So far, they are fantastic and they seem to be so well built that I don't expect any problems.
The mic is also good, I used to have lots of problems using ventrilo and being heard clearly, but this mic seems to be very solid, this is the one piece that is most difficult to really know how it performs. Also, this seems to be one of the pieces that breaks first on most headsets I have had in the past. I will keep a close watch on it, but my expectations are high and if it performs even half as well as the rest of the headset, I'll be in great shape.
Updating the firmware on the inline sound card is not quite as straight forward as I would like, but if you take a minute to read the short PDF tutorial on it, it is pretty easy. There is a firmware update out there for it, I installed it, but I don't really think you need it. I don't remember what the release notes said about the update, I think my CPU has been under less stress since the update, but that is probably just my imagination.
Anyway, enjoy!

What's great about it: Amazing sound. Super comfy. Great construciton.
What's not so great: N/A
I've been using these headphones for a couple of weeks now. The sound is amazing. I generally keep it in stereo mode because I usually just browse the internet and listen to music, but when I game I hit the Maelstrom button and put it in 7.1 Surround Mode, the sound is awesome!
Install was easy. Just plug in and it begins installing. I think install only took a minute at the most.
The design is great too, very high quality.

What's great about it: Superb surround sound, good voice presentation, extreme comfort, barely ever gets scratches
What's not so great: Nothing I can think of
When I first ever learned of razer, it was through a contest on an mmo I used to play, after I... Lost... I decided they were too cool to pass out on. After looking them up on razerzone.com, I saw that I just bought the creme of the crop, these things are perfect for the over average gamer, they outmatch all other headphones in comfort, sound quality, and luckily, im a person who likes big earmuffs.
When I actually tried the surround sound on a compatible game, I was speechless, it was pure sound quality that I thought I would never hear unless I had 8 speakers surrounding me. It was just amazing.
Good job Razer

What's great about it: Extremely comfortable, Very good build quality, over all looks are very nice, the control pod does what it is suppose to

The headset did give me trouble right out of the box; it was cutting out about 10 or 20 min into game play, but I updated the firmware and have had no trouble since. The main thing that upset me about this headset is I had to do research about how to fix the problems with the mic cutting out. I feel that Razer should have put some sort of disk or even a notice in the box stating what the issue is and how to resolve it. I would recommend this headset and I will buy again!

What's great about it: Easy to install, extremely comfortable, sounds okay
What's not so great: earcups dont swivel, mic is crackling. EXPENSIVE
quite possibly the most comfortable HEADSET, if you're not an advanced user, setting up the maelstrom control panel might be hard to set up but tinkering with it proves to be successful. The quality of the sound is strange, it sounds kind of like a muffled sound as opposed to the the conventional analog sound card + headset which sounds crisp and clear.
the downside:
the mic seemed to be extremely crackly and static when it picked up sound, i tried it on 2 different computers and experienced the same thing. I called best buy and they're exchanging it, hopefully the problem will be solved.
