What's great about it: It's Windows
What's not so great: It's Windows...
Though Windows 7 is way better than Vista, it's still Windows, so you can expect to pay way too much for their product. Given that Windows 8 is well on its way, they are getting everything they can while the getting is good.

What's great about it: Stability
I performed a fresh 64 bit install. Install went great with no problems to report. This was done on a Dell M6400 3.06 Ghz Core 2 Extreme machine with 8 GB of ram. Previous operating system was XP pro 32 bit. Win 7 appears to be equally stable. I'm using Office 2007 and multiple VPN's on this system daily with no issues. I also installed an Intel 120 GB SSD at the same time. Boot speed is now 12 seconds as opposed to 5 + minutes. This upgrade was well worth the investment.

What's great about it: Easy to use and fast operating system
What's not so great: Instructions provided when to upgrade.
Bought the upgrade version and run into the issue it would not pickup the key. Used to wipe out the HDD upfront and install the upgrade, then Windows will ask for any previous product either on CD or diskette. Nope not with Windows 7, so started out again with Windows XP and then upgrade without any further issues. Overall Windows 7 (upgraded also to 64 bit) is fast, easy to use, but can sometimes be picky when to install certain applications. Well was it necessary to update some hardware in order to get the most out of it.

Its nice, when it comes to my computers I try to get the top of the line, only reason I got Ultimate, and not the others. I guess the value would be alright if you use most of the features exclusive to Ultimate, but Idk.
Very easy install, almost automated. Though I am advanced with computers and technology in general.

What's great about it: Upgrade ease, good performance and price
What's not so great: took a few hours to complete (but it said that ahead of time)
What a welcomed surprise... if you do the compatability program first, it tells you all what you need to change for a clean and simple upgrade... not what I was expecting at all, and dreaded doing this for some time, now mad I didn't do it sooner... I was an early adopter of Vista Ultimate and suffered through all those growing pains, so did not want to do this, but I will say that it is the way to go to get Vista behind you once and for all... Home networking is now a dream and the preformance with my Quad processor really moves... Noticable performance improvement especially in moving between windows. Worth the money and the time... took a few hours to run, but after the first few screens, it did it all on it's own until finished.

What's not so great: It's still not Apple...
The only reason I did this upgrade was to get away from Vista. But to upgrade from Vista Ultimate you have to dish out the $$$ for 7 ultimate. Otherwise plan on backing up all of your data and prepare for a dump and fresh start. The upgrade worked well, XP emulation works well for progs. that don't want to run in 7 (like any Pervasive less than 10). And overall is stable thus far. My only warning is that 7 was designed for AT LEAST a dual-core processor. If you only have a single core expect some hick-ups... of course if you've ever used 98, ME, or Vista than you know all about those now don't you?

What's great about it: Features
What's not so great: Price and time it took to upgrade
The upgrade is a little pricey and takes a long time to load even though you already have Vista version. Microsoft is a little deceving that you have to upgrade to the same version. You can not downgrade to a less feature enriched version without a lot of hassles. Windows 7 is a definite improvement over Vista but still a resource hog.

I have only 2 small problems, My enternal fingerprint reade shows as disconected, no matter what driver I install, and I keep getting an error when I try to add itunes 64-bit version. This may be due to my current location (APO,AE) internet connection, or just a bad driver, with that said the bennefits far out weigh those negatives.

What's great about it: I like the aero options.
What's not so great: Doesn't seem any more stable than Vista. Finding drivers was a multi-hour pain! Nothing that special for the $$ spent.
I love to get the latest updates. So I bought this-2 copies. One for the laptop, one for the desktop. Both are basically new and loaded machines, well equipped to handled Vista or 7. However, with past experiences, I only loaded my laptop, so far, with 7. I did NOT do the upgrade, I chose the full install. It went as expected. BUT....I'm utterly surprised how 7 did NOT have the majority of the drivers I needed for the guts of my system. And yes, I used the Upgrade Adviser prior to doing anything. The list it gave me showed almost everything as compatible. After a full weekend of searching, I finally found all the drivers I needed. I've got the laptop pretty much reloaded with all I want on it. And it seems to run great. I did install the 64-bit, and the processing speed is great.
I will put 7 on my desktop AFTER the holidays...when I know I will have time to mess with all the "stuff" that I'm sure won't work without a lot of digging.
Honestly, It's OK. But had I known before buying what I know now, to me, it's not at all worth the money I forked out for it. Just stick with Vista. Seriously.

What's not so great: nothing
This by far is the easiest upgrade I have ever had from Microsoft.
So far I have had no issues with the software and is running great. I like the the strat up page no more icons cluttering up the background. My network has been running better than ever before. Microsoft has a winner here.

I don't know if the 'crash' was a fluke or not. It only happened once so maybe it was. There are a few new way to do things that I like but having only used the OS for 2 wks I'm sure I'll discover many other ways to do things easier then the "vista' os.
