What's great about it: Slim and clear
What's not so great: It doesn't slide into the charger easy
I got the phone and Ooma as part of a package price, so it is not that big of a deal to me as it is for some who paid the $50 for the phone. I think it is a decent phone even if you have to pay the $50, because it clear and has some cool features.

What's great about it: No wires, easy to setup!
What's not so great: Terrible speaker phone
Ooma service YES! Ooma handset, maybe not.
I bought 2 of these phones on sale for less than half of the list price. I wanted to take advantage of the second line feature of Ooma. When the phones came I found them easy to connect with the base unit, but the design leaves me wanting more. The speaker phone is almost unusable due to feedback and noise for the party on the other end of the line. I also find the phones performance is a bit sluggish. On the bright side, no wiring is required so they were operational anywhere in the house in minutes. The sound quality when not in speaker mode is fine, however the need to communicate with the base for everything makes tasks like scrolling the call log slow and frustrating.
I've since setup other phones for everyday use and typically only use the Ooma handset to call on the "Second" line or to pickup a second line call. I would be very dissappointed if I paid list price, but for occasional use when purchased at discount I'm tolerant of their faults. On the bright side, I really like Ooma service and I'm so happy to have said good bye to my old phone company!

What's great about it: Wide coverage in and outside of house
What's not so great: Initial charging of unit in base
Have had my handset a couple of months and am pleased it is working as advertised. Initially concerned by other review comments about the difficulty of the handset charging in the base. At first, it was a trick to set the handset in the base to get it to charge but by the week's end whatever was preventing it to charge was going away. Must be a stiff spring and overtime it loosens up. I like the different ring tones and have no issues with handset sound quality. Overall I'm please with my purchase.

What's great about it: Easy to set up plus all the Ooma features in the palm of your hand.
What's not so great: The cradle takes a little getting used to and the price is a high for one handset.
I have had the Ooma Telo about 2 months and the Handset about 2 weeks. I am very satisfied with both. The handset allows me to use the 2nd phone line, which comes in handy from time to time(I have a Premier subscription which is required). The sound is excellent and I have access to all the Ooma features in a portable phone.
A small annoyance is the cradle. I agree with one of the other reviewers in that is was poorly designed and a little tricky to get used to. I think they were going for form over function.

What's great about it: Design, Sound, Integration with Ooma, range
What's not so great: Poor integration with Google Voice, A little tricky to place back on its cradle.
This is a good device for personal use, If you are on the phone many hours a day or use it for business purposes then perhaps this is not the right handset for you.
I agree with other reviewers who say the Telo handset is a little slow, however nothing extreme, it just lags slightly when you first pick it up from the base and start dialing, it's just the few 3 seconds or so, then it responds normally, the latest firmware upgrade improved its performance greatly, it's a wonderful companion with the main Ooma Telo device.
The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't integrate fully with Ooma's Google Voice extensions when it comes to voice mail, the Voice Mail key is mapped to Ooma's own voice mail system, I wish there was a way map it for Google Voice instead, you can always set a speed dial key for GV though, so not a big deal.
Sound is great, however don't expect to hear HD sound just because the handset is HD capable, in order to experience HD Voice both you and the party you are calling need to be using HD equipment, and very few phones support it these days.
Good gadget overall.

What's great about it: A key component to a good system.
What's not so great: The handset is completely unreliable and goes dead without warning or user causes.
First I want to compliment Best Buy for their return policy or otherwise I would have been stuck with an unreliable lemon of a phone system.
The handsets have a serious problem of just going dead even though they are properly seated in the charging base and hand not been used for hours before. I purchased three units and thought maybe this was a problem with just one of them. I returned it and obtained a replacement. But they all had this problem and I am at a loss to explain why.
Because this problem is not acceptable, I have returned the whole system. That is too bad because I think the base unit is OK. The telephone handsets have other issues but I could have dealt with those. The battery problem is a killer.

What's great about it: Very easy to use with clear calling and worth every penny.
What's not so great: I haven't found anything I don't like about my ooma handset
My ooma cordless handset has all the features I need & it's so easy to use. I can easily make 3 way calls. I can page any of the other handsets in the house, we have 3 handsets one on the main floor of our home and 2 upstairs in the bedrooms and this is a very nice feature for calling the kids when I need them on another floor in another room. I love how clear the calls come through. The design of the phone is such that it fits nicely in my hand, feels comfortable when holding the phone for those long calls or I can easily put the call on speaker right from the handset. We bought the ooma phone system so we could drop our phone company and this system is the one we heard the best reviews about so if your thinking about switching to the ooma system I would recommend using the ooma handset they are wonderful.

What's great about it: Upgradable Firmware
What's not so great: Some users may feel the (current) text size too small
These handsets are not required to use the Ooma VOIP phone system. However, using these handsets enhances your phone system and are required to access the 2nd phone line when away from the base.
The handsets are very good and getting better. They are not at the level of panasonics but they are BETTER in two areas. 1) The Ooma handsets have upgradable firmware. The firmware is updated with new features periodically directly by ooma. 2) The phonebook is common on all handsets, just like Panasonic. However, the phonebook can be updated via the web with your gmail/outlook/etc.. contact lists and synced to your ooma handsets.
The firmware has been updating regularly. The handsets are competitive today. With enhancements, these Ooma handsets may soon be best the handsets available...

What's great about it: Cordless. Easy to set up. Easy to use. Clarity of voice calls. Attractive design.
What's not so great: Had to configure QOS to obtain clarity. No headset jack.
I was hesitant to buy the Telo handsets after reading some bad reviews, but I didn't want to hook up my old cordless phone to the unit, so I gave it a try. I bought 3 handsets. I really haven't had all of the issues that others have had except for one. At first there was a slight echo in the calls, but then I read on the Ooma help pages that you can configure QOS. I did so, and haven't had the issue since. It was pretty easy to configure using the browser based tool for setting up the Telo unit. Now I think the quality of the voice calls is at least as good as my previous AT&T cordless phone.
The handset design is attractive and easy to use. It unfortunately does not have a headset jack, so longer phone calls are a bit uncomfortable. It does have a speakerphone feature, but that is not always convenient.
It would have been cool to be able to display a picture of the person calling you instead of just the name, but it does display the caller name.
Overall I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to anyone, with the caveat about configuring the QOS on the Telo unit.

What's great about it: Online contact sync, sound quality,
What's not so great: Battery life, handset base
I have had a handset for 3 months now. When I first got it, I would have given it one or two stars all the way down. When it first came out, it was a joke. The handset was very buggy, features that are advertised were not available. It was a bad handset all the way around.
But... The handset is firmware upgradable!!!!
Since, there have been a series of updates to fix the bugs and add the features. You can go to my.ooma.com and import your phonebook from outlook, or manually create it, add different numbers for each contact ( home, cell, office, etc) and then all the contacts you add online, are automatically downloaded for handset use. The handset relies on the Telo for features such as the contact list, a lot of the handset info is stored in the Telo base. This causes a slight delay in the handset being responsive when you first start pressing buttons, but once the handset starts communicating with the base, its very fast.
The sounds quality of the handset is amazing. Voices sound crystal clear, the design of the contact list on the handset is amazing, its very easy to use, and again, each number for each user is there, you select a persons name, then it lists all the numbers and you choose which one you want to call. Brilliant!
On the downside. The battery life is not the greatest, its much improved over what it was when the handset has first came out, but it still is not quite as good as other handsets I have used in the past.
The feel of the handset takes a while to get use to, it has hard edges that should be smooth, but even that you get use to.
the last problem I have is the handset base, the way it sits in the base, there is no front lip, so if you accidently breath on the phone the wrong way, it will fall out of the base. So you have to be careful not to knock it.
Overall, its a very good handst for the Ooma. I have been a Ooma customer for almost 5 months and am a very happy Ooma customer. I would definitely recommend Ooma and the handset to others.

What's great about it: Allows one to check voicemail remotely
What's not so great: Poor - Awful batter life
This allows one to check voicemail remotely, and to utilize the second line feature of Ooma Premier. It does do that - and it does it well. One will want to use their own cordless phones for everything else, as the battery life in this device is terribly short. There is no warning before the unit disconnects/shuts down due to low battery. There is no obvious audible low battery warning. Ooma, please allow us to download our contact lists to this device! The LCD display is somewhat difficult to read at certain angles . . . something I used to see 20 years ago. Blue charging LED on charging base is too bright - no way to dim/shut off.

What's great about it: Set up is easy and intergrates nicely with ooma.
The phone is overall very nice. I have good clear sound quality as good as a land line. I have no lag, no static with this phone. This phone works great for the second line feature with premium service. If someone is on another call you can just pick up the phone and just dial out.
I believe individuals that have problems is because they do not have adaquate high speed internet access and/or use old router technolgy. Today, Gigabyte routers are the way to go. I have four pc networked, run netflicks, xbox-online, WII online, Network Storage and I have clear sound quality.
The phone does have an edge to it because it is constructed with the front faceplace inserted into a back plate. No big deal. I don't understand the complaint about being plastic. That's what phones are made of now days. I don't think it looks cheap. The menu feature is easy to navigate. One thing to note is that with ooma you can do programing online for your phone book, black lists, etc. Thats a better advantage over programing over a phone via it's own menus. In addition, it's saved online so you don't have worry about accidental deletions.

What's great about it: Links easily to Ooma base
What's not so great: Almost everything...
I received the handset for free from a local electronics store. I was excited to try it out since the handset has a nice looking design. I am disappointed that I have to agree with most negative reviews of this product as posted on this website and other various websites. The handset is cheaply made. The entire handset has sharp edges that wraps around the phone where the front and back sides meet. The sharp edge makes the handset uncomfortable to hold for extended time. The screen has poor contrast and difficult to view in certain angles. The phone menu is slow and sometimes locks up. The call quality is the most disappointing thing about this phone. The calls sound distorted and muffled. I have had calls drop for no reason even when I am just a few feet from the base. I have had instances where people cannot hear me at all but I can hear them. The battery life is beyond bad. I cannot get more than 30 minutes use with a full charge. The battery fully drains if the handset is not on the charger after 24 hours. After having this phone, I can only assume that Ooma must of rushed this handset into production without really taking time to make it a quality product. The Ooma Telo base on the other hand is awesome and works perfectly. I ended up getting an alternate cordless phone base with 3 handsets which works perfectly. I suggest that you avoid this phone and wait for the next generation which will hopefully address all the issues with this handset. For now, you will be better off purchasing an alternate brand handet instead.

What's great about it: Integrates perfectly with Telo; Looks sleek; Easy to use
What's not so great: Cheap plastic; sound quality is not optimal, but still works
If this were any other phone for $50.00 I'd return it, but because this integrates so well with the Ooma Telo I'm going to keep it. There have been a lot of complaints by others here and elsewhere regarding battery life, readability of the screen, and call quality. I haven't seen those problems, or at least they haven't bothered me enough to reject the handset. Granted, the screen is a bit grainy but it is certainly readable, and the sound quality is a not as good as other phones in the house--although people on the other end have said I sound perfectly fine--but I like the fact that it allows me to view and retrieve my messages from the Telo in another location. At this point in time Ooma supports up to 4 handsets with the Telo, but actually you don't need to have any. Any handsets from any manufacturer will do, but only this one, I believe, will allow you to remotely retrieve the Telo messages which is helpful if your Telo is not physically located in a convenient location. If you have convenient access to your Telo then you can continue using whatever phones you already have in your house.

What's great about it: Call quality, ease of use, integration with Telo base
What's not so great: Build quality, No headset jack
I have read the reviews from this site and was prepared to send the handset back if it did not work for a second line on my excellent Telo base unit. Well, I have to say, I am not experiencing many of the problems that others have complained about regarding the Telo Handset. The call quality to me sound clear. Every once in a while I hear a faint hum but for me that is very tolerable given the fact that I only pay $10/month for 2 phone numbers. I have spent about 25 hours using the handset and have not had one lockup, dropped call, bad connection or missed call. The handset is used in my home office for the company that I work for. Our customers have not had any trouble hearing me. Yes the phone is a little weak on build quality. I would not drop it too many times. I am not seeing any problems with the handset not holding a charge or the battery indicator going to half when I first start using it. I will post an update as more time passes and I use the handset more often.
****One side note***
My internet connection is fast and very reliable. I consistantly get 10mb down and 2mb up. I also have the telo base configured to occupy 768kb up and 2mb down while on the phone.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I like the telo base system and ooma, but this handset is below average...LCD screen is grossly inadequate, and as of today, the telo unit cannot support more than one handest...

What's great about it: If the phone was good.. the features would be too.
What's not so great: The phone stinks!
I'm fairly new to Ooma. I bought the Ooma Telo about 2 months ago. When I bought it.. the handset was not yet available so I was using it with a 5 year old cordless that cost only $12 new. Things were great.. so I expected it to be even better when I finally got my Ooma handset. NOT!
My first thought when I opened the box was that it was made of cheap plastic. Very lightweight.. don't drop it. Also.. the edges are very sharp.. making it uncomfortable to hold in your hand. The screen reminds me of 15-20 year old technology. With all that said.. I was at least hoping the sound quality would be good. Boy oh boy was I wrong. My 5 year old - $12 cordless had better sound quality.
There's a hissing sound that comes and goes during EVERY call. Its very annoying b/c I found myself asking the person on the other line to repeat themselves ofter. That is my main complaint about this phone.
In the end.. I used this phone for about a month.. and after reading some other reviews and seeing all the chatter on the Ooma website forum.. I decided to return it. Many of the other reviewers and forum chatter had the same issues that I mentioned. The hissing sound during use seems to be a big complaint with many other users.
I bought an AT&T cordless phone system with 3 handsets for $59.00 and the sound quality is outstanding. The Ooma Telo is a great product.. and having no phone bill will save you tons of $$. However... Ooma certainly missed their mark on this handset release.
Save your money.. get a decent cordless phone.. and wait til Ooma fixes the issues with this handset and releases a better quality one.
Good luck...
