What's great about it: its a projector! you pick screen size! Price!!!
What's not so great: always wanting bigger budget-yes you'll be happy with this!
every time I power this up I cant stop grinnin like a idiot! Bought on super sale. I feel like I stole it. Cost was less than half my broken optoma (same relative spec's) but pic is clearer, never a rainbow. And eco is bright enough. This is a no brainer.

What's great about it: Bright, Quiet, Small, Portable, Price
What's not so great: not 1080 or lens shift but great price
I have been wanting to add a screen and projector to my livingroom for two years now. I have the screen mounted just in front of my Pioneer Elite plasma so that on movie night we simply lower the screen and turn on the projector. You know that if I have an Elite I am pretty picky and this projector is Great. This projector is mounted about 9 feet from the screen and fills up the 92 inch screen. It is bright enough to watch in any light in our house, be it sunlight or room lights. Blacks are washed out when lights are present but the shows are watchable. In total darkness movies look really good, feels like your at the theater. Would recommend to anyone looking for an entry level HD projector.

What's great about it: Clarity, easy to use, not too expensive
I work for a City and our projector broke hours before our presentation (go figure.) We were going to go with one through our office supply company but for double the price we could one. So we looked to Best Buy (I used to work there so I'm slightly biased) Most of the reviews on bby.com revolve around people with entertainment goals such as hooking up their Xbox, Ps3, etc. so I was skeptical about its clarity for reading and displaying numbers. For Business Purposes, which is the only reason why I bought it for, its a great projector! Every number is clear, Powerpoints look great and even the coloring is good. The projector is light weight and works really well. I can see it clearly from forty feet away. The only thing I'd recommend is that the user have an extension cord, the power cord on the unit is really short, less than 6 feet.

What's great about it: Impressive picture.
What's not so great: Needs a lot of support equipment for the best system
I have a 5 year old and a 10 year old, boys. I got this for them so they could go upstairs and watch TV, movies and play Wii. They love it and so do I. Yes, I could have spent $500 more or even $2500 more to get better resolution, but it is over the moon for the kids and that was what I was aiming for.
The room does need to be dark for the BEST picture, but even with some ambient light, it's pretty good.
With a 10ft throw, I ended up with a 93" (diag.) screen. Could have gone bigger but it would have looked funny on the wall.

What's great about it: Picture, Price,
What's not so great: No Left-right movement, fan noise at times
I ended up with this projector after a few weeks of research and my other projector decided to die on me. (thank goodness for the protection plan)
I must say that the color, and the sharpness of this projo is awesome. The "lumens" on here is simply amazing, as I can watch this one with the blinds open or the light on with NO PROBLEMS. Black Levels are good, not great, but not enough to even remotely complain.
Downside is that if you are mounting, measure 3 times and mount once, because although this has a zoom in and out feature, there is no left or right function which means you have to be SPOT ON with your wall mounting.
Just for the record, I only watch HD programming and Blu-ray, and once again amazing picture.

What's great about it: Value for the money
What's not so great: Placement
Family has had 3 projectors prior to this, all DLP (2) 480p and (1) 720p. Went into this knowing that this projector has limits and expected it to perform as an economy projector not one you'd find in the Magnolia dept.
It's one of the hardest projectors of the four (ceiling mounted) that I've had to get the picture squared up on the screen (16:9 with a 3 inch black velux border). There is overscan on the screen about an inch and a half all around when forcing 16:9. I knew this going in as it's native is 16:10. Also it's a shorter throw distance than our previous projectors.
The picture is super bright, it's bright enough to crush the blacks to grays. Can be viewed with ambient light, if you preference having some lights on you can still view images on this projector. Colors are rich and vibrant. After some adjustment the picture quality was pretty darn good.
The fan noise in normal mode sounds like a computer fan when it's burning a CD (you can hear it !) on eco mode it's much more tolerable. You can hear the auto-iris, sounds of inconsistent clicking. You can disable it on the menu.
When ceiling mounted I noticed there is a vented area on the underside about an inch or so that reflects alot of light to the ceiling.
I don't use the onboard speakers so N/A for me. Hard to get used to the instant off instead of the normal 1-2 minute cool down for the other projectors.
Purchased a Neutral Density filter to help improving the black levels, achieved about a 10-15% increase in black level. It doesn't affect color but will tone down the brightness. As this projector has that in spades it works out well. It will also smooth out the image which some may or may not prefer.
Overall for the money, excellent value, just don't go into purchasing this expecting miracle performance.

What's great about it: Great price, easy to use, great image quality
What's not so great: No audio out
I had been pricing projectors for months before settling on the Epson PowerLite because of the reviews and the cost was under $700. I needed something that would be used mainly for business presentations but could also be used every few weeks or so for a family movie night. The projector so far has exceeded my expectations. At Best Buy the video quality was washed out a little and I expected the same after my purchase so was very surprised when the video quality was very sharp and bright. Except for the contrast of black against dark colors there is very little difference between this projector and my $3000 55" HD LCD TV. It is very portable and extremely easy to set up and use. The only negative is that the built in speaker is quite poor and I thought it had an Audio Out but doesn't appear to, or I can't find it, so be sure to plan to have your DVD or computer have separate lines. One video to go to the Projector and one Audio to go to a Receiver.

What's great about it: I really enjoy watching movies, sports, and TV shows on this!
We use the projector primarily to stream Netflix from our laptop in hi def. I also use the HDMI connection to connect to a bluray player, and to our DVR. In all cases, the picture looks great on an 80" screen!
If you're sitting next to it, fan can be heard during quiet scenes. Fan noise is decreased quite a bit when running in ECO mode. Even in ECO mode, the image and contrast are bright enough to easily view image in our sunroom, with windows along two walls.
The only drawback is no audio out when running an HDMI connection to it. The built-in speaker doesn't give the bass or volume we like when watching movies. To get around this, I typically run a headphone-out from the laptop, or fiber optic digital from the component, to a home stereo for audio and use the projector only for image, which is where it excels.

What's great about it: Light, quiet, great picture out of the box
What's not so great: Nothing
This is my first HD projector for home - although I used them all the time for work. After a great deal of research, the price for the features looked good - and then I plugged it up - I was blown away. The picture even on a beige wall was fantastic - at 120" diag. The key correction was auto-magic and the image was brilliant and pretty darn close to perfect. The picture rivals my large LCD. Get this projector! It is quiet, simple to use, and the picture was terrific even on a painted wall. I can't imagine the difference a projection screen is going to make.

What's great about it: day time usage
What's not so great: lens not four way adjustable
after getting sick of seeing the replace bulb warning pop up every time I turned on my old Epson projector. I decided to just get a new unit with updated features to go with my more modern equipment. Its hard choosing between spending $200 and $700, but I couldn't be more happy with my choice I researched for months on what unit to get. The image quality is superior to my old unit and now I can watch things during the day.
There is a louder fan noise with this unit but it doesn't bother my wife or I that much, but if your unit is placed closer to your head it may bother you.
Overall four star. The only thing I wish it had was a four way adjust with the lens.

What's great about it: Great Value
What's not so great: Black levels and only 720p
This project is a great 720 HD projector. I lot of quality for the money. Perfect for playing games and watching TV on screens of up to 120". Only the lack of Full HD 1080 and home theater black levels keep it from being the best of the best for movie watching. All things considered its a great deal for the money if you can't afford the Epson 8350.

EPSON 705HD vs 8350

What's great about it: Picture quality, resolution, price
What's not so great: minimal throw adjustment, fan noise although it's not that loud.
After doing months of research(FYI: ProjectorReview.com is a good site) I decided I would purchase the Epson 8350. I also purchased the 705HD to give me something to compare it to. I also purchased a brand new blue ray player, HDMI cables, etc. I watched several Blue Ray and standard movies. The 8350 is super quiet, and has an outstanding ability to place the projector at just about any location and be able to adjust the image left, right, up, down, great throw distance adjustment, etc. The 705HD has very little ability to adjust the throw distance or adjust left or right and you can hear the fan noise but we found it to be acceptable and my wife did not notice it. I was dead set on the 8350 but would move the HDMI input from one projecto to the other and could not tell the difference. And after a while I started to like the skin tones of the 705 better but it was only slight. The white and black levels on both prjectors were great as were the colors. I expected to see a big difference in the clarity on the 8350 since it is 1080 and rated at 50,000:1 resolution. I could not tell the difference between the two projectors. Since the throw distance/projector placement was not an issue for me I decided to go with the 705 HD because it ws less expensive and had equal picture quality. When reviewing the two projectos I tried to evaluate them at nght when the room was dark but also changed modes to living room mode and watched with quite a bit of ambient light and both did a great job. Enough so that when we entertain for sporting events we can project the the image. I also watched sports on and off HD channels. HD made a noticable difference on sports. TV shows were outstanding on HD channels. By the way I was using DISH. Both projectors are easy to use and change modes which makes a bid difference if you are in a room with a lot of light. Overall I am really pleased and impressed with the image resolution and picture quality.

What's great about it: great price, great quality
What's not so great: minor noise from vent - but volume of movie overpowers this anyways
This has all of the specs of the super expensive projectors but for a half of the price. It has an amazing picture, HDMI, great clarify, and color. I did research for about 6 months before I purchased and every time I came back to this one. It is a great buy and I am very satisified with it. I would definitely recommend.

What's great about it: great price, great picture
What's not so great: limited zooming...must install very close to the distance for full screen coverage
i would definitely recommend the Epson projector for your home theater. I have mine projecting to a 105" diagnal screen and it looks phenomenal. The only negative thing which is for all projectors is the noise from the fan. I am going to build a sound box to enclose all of the sides and leave the front open. The fan is in the front so this should solve the minor problem. As long as you install the projector within the specified dimensions, the 1.2 zoom is not a problem. I missed by 1-2 inches due to a lighting conflict and my picture is 103" of the 105" screen which is very acceptable.
Bottom line, where else can you get a 105" 720 HD image for less than a grand including the screen? All you need is the stereo and you are good to go!

What's great about it: Bright during the day, 720p looks excellent, very colorful and made for BIGscreen
What's not so great: not a quiet projector and black levels arent crisp or deep, scaling is blotchy
I started out with an xga powerlite 730c so I was accustomed to epson projectors when i made the jump. Paired up with a white da lite 110" screen, this beast pushes enough lumens to make my sniper rounds in Modern warfare 2 at 10 in the morning with all my windows open and lights on. If your an outright home theater enthusiast and only intend on watching stuff in a dark room after 10pm then maybe you should go with dlp as its black levels really pop in the dark. but if your looking for a reliable anytime projector that you can watch like a tv twelve hours a day thats tailored to support all facets of media (PC, XBOX/PS3/Wii and theater) at a good viewable middle ground, then I'd recommended this for anyone. heads up on that fan noise though, it is somewhat louder than what i expected. and the variable iris seems cheap as its noisy and always makes my image worse because frames change much faster than the iris can handle, so i just turned it off and calibrated the colors, black levels and color temperature to my liking.
Ive tried customer service because my projector arrived with a leg that didn't want to hold its position, So they have told me they are sending a replacement, Its been a lot longer than two days like their policy stated, but its not a big deal as i have dealt with epson for years and overall they have been good to me.
