What's great about it: Easy instalation
What's not so great: will no make you PC run faster and be more secure.
2 Toshibas Laptop one with normal Windows 7 and one with Windows 7 Profesional. I do not see the difference. If you are online frequently you will donwload a lot trash and download virus. Both Laptop have crashed even with Windows 7 Professional installed and Norton antivirus. Windows 7 Profesional will not make your laptop more secure and you're throwing your money away. I thinking about switching to Mac next time. I need to stay productive on my work and not taking the laptop every 4 or 6 months to repair. I miss Windows XP which was a platform that never crashed, and if it does probably you hard drive has stopped working.

What's great about it: task bar tweaks are great (docks suck imo)
What's not so great: managing users' access to files can be more complicated in specific situations
Win7 is a solid operating system. Now major changes but some very practical and intuitive tweaks. When it comes to stability, Win7 and the other os, they are equally stable. If all you care about is stability you would not run either of them. Also, 99% of the time it is the application being run on windows that causes the problem not windows itself.
Now for the big A guy below. How can give is a compatibility score of 2 / 5 if the reason you bought it is because your other os is not compatible with applications you want to use? And how can you give installation a 1 / 5 when the installation processes for win7 and the other os are the same? If you are giving it a low score because of b camp, that is a big A issue. It is necessary because big A decided to not use a full bios. Have you tried installing a other os on a pc? I would be difficult considering it requires hacking. I guess that gives the ease of installation for the other os a 0/5. Finally, on the price.
The comments show lack of knowledge of what a big A computer is. Big A's philosophy is that software and hardware should be made for each other and together make on complete product. Therefore when you buy your big A computer, the price of the os is included in the price for the hardware. Windows 7 is a stand alone product.
Big A lovers deny this but the increase in big A users in the past couple years has nothing to do with the other os being a better OS than Win7. Notebook/Laptops (and desktops too but not as much) pc makers commoditized the market with cheap and inadequate hardware which ended up disappointing and frustrating users. Since 2006, m*cs are x86-64 instead of power pc's making them compatible with more applications (like windows). That and b c*mp made big A computers a viable alternative for pc users. Those who got frustrated by the bad hardware turned to big A because they always use good hardware and have high build quality. The users may have thought it was windows but it was the bad hardware. So it was actually big A becoming more like Microsoft that increased big A computer sales. And of course, let's not forget the far superior marketing by big A which, sadly, might take most of the credit.

What's great about it: Some web sites and applications require Windows.
What's not so great: Windows is buggy, bloated and prone to viruses. Apple is not.
It was with much angst that I purchased a copy of Windows. I am a fiercely loyal Apple customer and have been since the Apple II and Macintosh 128k Classic! I have a top of the line, 27" iMac and had to set up Parallels and Boot Camp so I can launch Windows on those rare occasions when web designers do not integrate Safari or Firefox compatibility. Also, I occasionally receive attachments that must be opened in a Windows environment. I absolutely hated spending $299 + tax on Microsoft software, but never use bootleg software. I feel it is important to always purchase the proper software license through authorized channels.
I was very pleased at the end of July to purchase the new Apple Operating System 10.7 (Lion) which was one-tenth the price at $29.99 and ten times better!!

What's great about it: Nothing.
What's not so great: No mail, backward browser, driver - USB - network and connectivity problems, virus threats.
After a full 18 months of fighting with Vista 64bit and a new HP super computer that wouldn't compute, I switched to the iMAC 27" and am not looking back. My productivity level has skyrocketed as a result. Still, with Microsoft phasing out XP and Vista being a nightmare, I opted to purchase Windows Professional just to run old XP programs and some other business oriented software.
The program loaded easily. I was surprised. The first shock: no mail feature. Outlook express is gone. So, I downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird and installed it. Although the Windows 7 found my internet connections during setup, I have since experienced intermittent loss of connectivity to both the internet and my home network. I have learned from my past mistakes, and took no action. I have connectivity again, but it is very slow. Internet Explorer is useless. It is incapable of reading the new CSS and HTML5 codes. As I design websites, it is essential that my browser support these new codes. Again, I had to download and install Firefox in order to see websites using the advanced code.
Be advised that owning a full copy of Windows 7 does not give you license to install it on every computer in your home. You may install it on only one computer unless to opt for family licensing, which will cost you more. If you choose to install it in another computer, you must deactivate before you cash out the system on the original install machine.
I have an Epson scanner that wasn't found by the system during install. I had to hunt up the drivers and install. I had no such problems with my MAC. The system still requires a heavy anti-virus program to insure surfing safety. Nothing on the MAC, which I find quite liberating.
Owning Windows OS is a necessity if you want to run older Windows based programs. Otherwise, get a MAC and be free. It took me over 20 years to see the light.

This operating system installed very quickly and easily and had no issues with any device drivers which is much different from Vista. I loved XP and XP Media Center Edition, but, I think 7 professional is the best I've had.

What's great about it: 64 bit fast, easy to load, no lock ups
What's not so great: not all programs compatible yet
After suffering through Windows Vista, Windows 7 Professional is a welcome relief. It loaded fast, found all my component drivers, without having to search forever. Because of the 64 bit, some programs not compatible yet, but that should resolve soon. I would highly recommend Windows 7 Professional.

What's great about it: Ease of use, no upgrading headaches, best my computer has ever operated.
What's not so great: Had to hunt down some old favorite programs that aren't included with 7.
After much research, I opted for a clean install of 7 Pro. It allowed me to optimize my gaming, my hardware and software headaches have been eleminated, and I was able to wipe out my PCs manufacturer software.
It doesn't include Outlook, but it can be downloaded. Some of the programs look a little different- things aren't where they used to be, but after clicking around you can find your commands.
I had used XP for 7 years and loved it. I used Vista for just 2 months and could not wait to get 7 Pro. If you are a frustrated Vista user and don't mind starting over, by all means, treat yourself. If you hate change and get frustrated with having to relearn a program, you might prefer to just stay with your currnet OS.

What's great about it: as fast as and smoother than xp
What's not so great: some quirk with curser moving while typing and bill gates
i've been running linux almost exclusively for years dual booted with xp.
only time i logged into xp was to play games. i still love my linux but win 7 has really impressed me.
i am actually enjoying my time spent on my windows side. there is still some quirks but i can accept that with a new os.
ram usage is similar to xp ...around 750-850 megs. not really surprised with some features....linux has had some for years.
i got a deal on win 7 professional upgrade for 99 bucks through MS and bestbuy. i wouldn't have given 5 stars if i had to pay 200 for it though.
a note....you can't do a simple upgrade from vista premium to win 7 professional. you can only do it from vista business to 7 prof. (thanks microsoft. you really are a pain sometimes)
otherwise you need to do a clean install.
xp mode is a great option. you can download xp and run it in virtual pc for free so its like getting two os's for the price of one. can't believe he didn't charge for the xp download.
if your gonna upgrade and don't need xp mode, the win 7 premium family pack for 150 will let you upgrade 3 computers. a great deal. xp requires a custom....read clean install.....but will save many xp files to a new file and its pretty easy.
overall, win 7 really is a good system. combine with microsofts security essentials (a free antivirus software through MS) and i really do think you won't miss xp and definitely won't miss vista.

What's great about it: UI is just tremendeous ! Speed is uncanny !
What's not so great: price. Could have been 100$ less...
Microsoft has indeed done a fantastic job with Windows 7 OS. The OS is just fabulous as others have reviewed. I moved from XP to 64 bit windows 7. Got all drivers etc with ease and I am up and running 100% (BETTER THAN XP). Microsoft provided the free Anti Virus as well for win 7. This was really good. I had a problem with my clean install related to dynamic drive and had to call microsoft as the install said "look on log file for details. Could not create or find primary partition...". Ofcourse you can't look at any log file during install. I had a 300GB HDD and 1.5TB HDD. The 1.5TB was a dynamic drive (per OS). Due to that, win 7 wont install. Called MS and techsupport was very good and stayed with me till I completed my install (which I didnt need). They were curteous and really nice. I was amazed when I got a call the next day from MS again to see how I was doing and they asked me for my permission to close my case ... which is GREAT !
Microsoft really did wonderful. The UI is out of the world. I never expected it to be so slick. Have seen Dos, win 3.0, 3.1, 95, 98, XP and this is THE BEST !

I have had the pleasure of using windows 7 professional for a while now. I can give it 5 stars for a great price because i got it about 4 weeks ago for free through my schools msdnaa program. All of my programs run great on it and it is alot faster then vista and it takes up alot less space. You can't go off reviews like the previous guy who just tested the beta version because it is better then vista and it is extreamly stable.

What's great about it: Fast Boot's, No more hanging windows
What's not so great: It didnt come out sooner
So i see some people have had the pleasure of using windows 7 for a few weeks now, fortunately i have had the opportunity to use it for the past 15 months... From the first beta edition released with it's few hiccups i have been side by side with Microsoft in discussing and helping fix these problems... Windows 7 i can honestly say will be one of the first operating systems released by Microsoft without major issues... I have used both 32 bit and 64 bit based versions and each work great... For those with 64 bit based computers and lots of ram you will love the ability to utilize it all, having 16 gb of 1066 ram and Sli paired gtx 285's windows 7 should run like dynamite but even on the slower machines like my server with a core 2 duo at 2.8ghz and 2gb of ram it still runs like a champ, in all honesty it runs equally as fast as my fast machine until i get under heavy gaming and operating loads....
Do yourself a favor and get rid of vista the sooner you do the happier you'll be...
Now it's time for Windows 8 to get underway and lets just say you will be as happy as you where with windows 7 when it is released in 2011-2012....

Being tech support for a major software company, I can say that our product works AMAZING on Windows 7. We had issues with Vista and our software, but with Windows 7 we were truly impressed. It works on older hardware much better than Vista ever though about. Microsoft finally got it right this time. We are actually recommending our customers to upgrade to Windows 7
