What's great about it: Similar speakers with comparable build quality are much more expensive, you save $ and retain great quality
What's not so great: 22 inch depth
I've owned Polk monitor 50's for about 2 1/2 years and finally decided to upgrade to these and I was infinitely impressed! The silk dome tweeters have proven to be ultra sensitive and have prevailed in every way over my old speakers, I hear little tones and nuances in music and movies I've never heard before. Polk has really done a great job with their power port + technology because despite these speakers having 3 bass drivers they are ported and sealed off from the midrange and tweeter so there is literally no distortion in higher quality audio tracks no matter how hard I push them! I use a pioneer sc-05 to power the A9's and it is more than adequate.
After listening back and forth between the Def Tech 7002's and Viennas Mozarts I decided to give these a try and although the A9's don't pack as big of a punch as the Def Techs with the absence of a powered sub they still bring more low end to the table than 90% of the speakers I've listened to, not to mention the silk dome tweeter rounding out the package to bring the best of both worlds! I wish I would have bought them sooner, the cherry finish is absolutely beautiful when the light hits it. Mmmmmm.
