What's great about it: Low lumi performance
When i bought my first DSLR, I got this 35mm lens with my zoom, thinking to use it only in some family party or birthdays, closed in the wall of some house, I hate flash so I need a low-light lens. The problem started when I mounted this 35mm on my little Nikon D3100: I can't get it off! Simply it's fantastic. I usually shot people and landscapes, but this lens has become my faithful night friend. It took the place of my other zoom lens (Nikkor 16-85) and now I roam in the evening and also some hours in the night catching spectacular photos of bell towers, old medieval buildings and many other particulars (bricks, windows, ...) that during the day are invisible, because literally covered by people or cars passing by. Not be frightened of darkness, this 35mm can see in a large sort of conditions, where you will never mind of taking a photo. It's light, autofocuses rapidly and also in low light conditions, but if you need grab it ad it will follow (automatically switches to manual focus). Hand held your camera, 1/30 sec is just what you need; white balance and saturation can regulate the colors of your picture or, if you dare, give them that particular amazing effect

What's great about it: Price versus performance
What's not so great: No VR
This little lens is one of the best lower-priced macro lenses on the market, but you get a lot of bang for your buck. I just got it and I'm still learning how to use it.

What's great about it: it is a prime lens for a great price
What's not so great: nothing yet
I am new to this type of photography. This,Nikon DX 35mm f1.8, is a very good lense for my purposes. i have found some of the reviews to be true, You will have to move your feet more to compose a picture. I look forward to using it in more situations. For the money how could you go wrong. Add one to your kit!

What's great about it: Easy to Use, Great Price,
I'm really loving not having to drain all my color out of my shot with a flash and still getting nice clear photos. Lense is super easy to use you just have to be willing to be your zoom. Completely worth the investment.

What's great about it: Pretty much everything.
What's not so great: CA and hot spots at 1.8
This was my first prime lens purchase and it has completely replaced my kit zoom.
Pictures come out very sharp--almost too sharp when taking portraits. All skin flaws show up perfectly which is not always a good thing.
Since you can not zoom, you really have to work hard to frame. This may not be a bad thing--my shots have improved greatly due to having to really think before shooting.
The low light capabilities of the lens were not quite what I expected. Better than my kit lens but I thought I would get more light.
I do have an issue with hot spots on cheeks and noses when shooting wide open, but this goes away at 2.8.
There is quite a bit of purple fringe when shooting wide open in bright light.
All in all, it is a great lens.

What's great about it: Low light capability and bokeh are both great
What's not so great: Really nothing, to be honest - purely depends on your situation
The 35mm is a good lens. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it. It has a really big aperture, so it's great in low light situations, and although some may complain about it being a "plastic" lens, I prefer the light weight in a lens like this. It's a great "everyday" lens for doing pictures at parties or outside at night where flash is difficult. I also own the 40mm lens and prefer it - for the price of the 40mm, you can't go wrong and it will likely make this lens disappear before long. The close focus distance for macro work is fantastic. The edge goes to the 35 in low light situations, but it's a 35mm and 40mm we're talking about. You're not too far away for flash to work, so if you have a good flash that can be bounced off the ceiling or otherwise diffused, I suggest the 40. If you're shooting in natural low light, go with this 35.

What's great about it: Built well and inexpensive.
What's not so great: DX only, not film or FX, and could be better optically.
This is the sort of lens that would have been in a kit with an SLR a decade ago. It provides roughly a normal field of view (the focal length of the lens is the same as the diagonal measure of the image sensor or film).
Unlike the kit lens of a DX Nikon, this allows for instant focus over-ride (Nikon calls this M/A mode), and the fast f/1.8 aperture gathers much more light for shooting moving subjects than anything in its price range, and certainly more than any zoom lens. The image circle is only large enough for Nikon's DX sensor format, not 135 film or FX digital, however, due to its relatively large image circle, it will also mount and work properly on the Nikon Pronea series of APS film cameras, if you still shoot one of those.
It's small and lightweight, and features a metal lens mount for greater durability, a rubber gasket to keep contaminents out of your lens and body, and no external moving glass as it focuses, so there's no air being pumped in and out of the lens when you focus, making it great for less than ideal enviroments. It also has a 52 mm filter thread, the same as most manual focus and inexpensive DX lenses, so you only have to carry one size of filter and not drive yourself crazy.
Although it's sharp, remaining so for the most part until it's wide open, it has some distortion and isn't as rectalinear - meaning straight lines appear straight - as I'd like, which is to be expected at this price point, and can be corrected in software. Bokeh can also be somewhat distracting, as this lens produces even discs. This is an indication of a lack of spherical aberation in the optics, which can be good for many things, but with this lens' tendancy to produce bokeh very quickly at f/1.8, it could be better.
I absolutely recomend this lens. If I had to shoot with one lens on Nikon DX forever, I'd pick this one.

What's great about it: Smaller lens, Easy to use, fantastic photos.
What's not so great: No zoom.
I love this lens!! The pictures turn out so good. I'm so glad I bought it. The only issue is there's no zoom, but I can live with that if that means it saves me $200-$300 dollars. I'll just walk closer to the object I'm shooting.

What's great about it: Fast, sharp, awesome bokeh
What's not so great: Nothing
Go now and buy it! You won't regret it.... I use it on my D7000, mostly indoors but works well outdoors too. Believe it or not, it takes pretty nice "macro" shots too, just check out the pecans in the middle of the pie :-). The other pic was taken at sunset, no flash of course and is still very sharp and I love the colors. Super sharp, fast auto focus, great bokeh every time. This is the best lens you can buy for $200.

What's great about it: Fast Lens - great for low light photography
What's not so great: plastic body
The f/1.8 Max. Aperture works great for low light. The pictures are sharpest around f/4 and smaller. I use this on a D5100. I find I use this indoors a lot especially for portraits. Since it is a prime I do not feel the need to move back and forth too much indoors and the 35mm (55mm equiv.) focal length is just right. I have a separate 55-200mm when I need it.
I picked up the lens instore and delivery was fast. The lens is accompanied with a hood, bag (cloth) and a lens cap.

What's great about it: very small, depth of field blew me away
This is an awesome lens but if you are a novice user like me please be careful with this lens. If you are going to use it to capture pictures for an important event please ensure you experiment with this lens before you start using it.
I have taken pictures of four people sitting in a row but since I had the lens fully open f2 , the pictures came out with the focus only on one person in the row even though the depth of field difference was very minimal between folks sitting on the same row. I was very surprised since I usually have take pictures @ max aperture with some of the zoom lenses.
This speaks to the fantastic capabilities of this lens but learn and experiment before using it on your kids birthday :) to avoid disappointment

What's great about it: Best bang for the buck
What's not so great: zoom with feet
I'm a starting photographer with not a ton of money and this is only my second lens of many yet to come. I cant seem to put any other lens on my camera after this one, and has got to be the best lens for the price. You get an amazing f/1.8 for the bokeh effect(really blurry background) and low lighting without spending thousands of $. Most BestBuys don't carry this lens in stock but i highly recommend you get it. The only downfall with this lens is its lack of zoom, but what do you expect from an amazing prime lens? Just zoom with your feet and walk closer to your subject and you'll achieve results. Every camera bag should have this lens!
