What's great about it: Suppose to transfer VHS to DVD
What's not so great: Never found out if it would
Opened box, looked at hook up instructions, I don't have an external signal box so there is no way to connect machine to television!!! Machine does not have any direct inputs for cable coax, find that I have to download users manual. Would rather pay for a manual to be in the box. Overall, Very Disappointed.

What's great about it: DVD/VCR combo
What's not so great: Can't work the dang thing
Toshiba makes a bleeping product. This DVD/VCR combo is huge, clunky and generally unappealing. But it was the only combo I could find at Best Buy at time of purchase. And I love Best Buy! It's impossible to assemble it correctly. And that's after I set up my new TV, TV stand and Tivo, so I know I'm not a total dunce. Very disappointed in this product. Thank God for Tivo, because I can't figure this dang thing out.

What's great about it: Easy set up, records VCR to DVD well
What's not so great: Picture quality- average
Great product to use for transferring videotape to DVD, but not as easy to use when recording DVR to DVD, but it works. Picture quality is good but could be better. I still like it though. Can't really comparison shop as these types of products are becoming obsolete.

What's great about it: Easy to set up and use and great options
What's not so great: Nothing
We bought this product to transfer our library of VHS tapes to DVD. The product we bought was easy to set up and very easy to use. We can watch our VHS tapes or watch DVDs and we can transfer fron Tape to DVD or TV to DVD. It's a great device. We have even converted some VHS movies and home movies to DVD and sent them to friends and relatives.

What's great about it: Once you get it working, it's a piece of cake to dub tape to DVD. Also nice deck in general for playing tapes and DVDs.
What's not so great: Had a little trouble getting it going in the beginning but tech support was good.
At $200, this product satisfies what I was looking for to transfer VHS tapes to DVD. Until recently, my options seemed to be dealing with hooking up a VHS player to a converter, such as Dazzle, streaming that into my PC, then creating a DVD from there. Lots of steps, lots of resources required on the PC, etc. I will admit that this method gives you lots of opportunities for editing, etc. but I wanted to dub tapes quickly and easily. I've done the Dazzle thing and while it works, I didn't want to do that this time.
I had to call Toshiba tech support many times to understand how to make the functions work, but they stuck with me and were very helpful. Since solving the issue, I can easily run a tape and dub it to a DVD disk. This is important because when my children were little, I used a camcorder that took full sized VHS cassettes and sat on my shoulder (I know, I'm ancient).
Another nice advantage is that this deck is relatively compact and I can play tapes and DVDs on it and it has the hi-res output for DVDs, making them look nearly like Blu-Ray.
I chose this product partly because I've always had great luck with Toshiba and so far, this has not been an exception.

What's great about it: Nothing. Failed uopn purchase.
What's not so great: Unit failed upon purchase.
Unit failed upon arrival. DVD tray would not open, it just clicked.
Service number in India told me to "turn it off and hold a button for one minute then turn it back on " as if that was going to fix anything. They then wanted me to ship it to them at my expense for repair.
Returned to store immediately.

What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Editing instructions/ease
This is the best $200 I've spent in a long time. I have been able to transfer HOURS of vhs taps to dvd while doing other things at the same time and it has been great. It is simple to set up, easy to use, and I do not have to babysit it while it works. The only thing bothersome to me is the editing instructions, which I have not begun to try to tackle. Other than that, it has resolve something I have stressed over for years.

What's great about it: Records DVDs off the air pretty nice
What's not so great: Everything else. Best buy. Toshiba. Customer service.
FIrst I will tell you I bought this to replace my 15 year old Panasonic VCR. I wanted a DVD recorder and also felt the dubbing aspect would be great.
When you get it out of the box,,if you were not aware (I was), this unit has no tuner and no coax input or output. SO you need some type of tuner for off the air recording and you need minumum RCA jacks.
I will say this thing is pretty complex (the manual is like for the space shuttle) but although I am a senior, I was able to get it to partially do what I am looking to use it for. However I never did get to try the dubbing feature. I will say the DVD recorder records a very nice picture off the air and is versityle in that respect.
But here it is,,the VCR portion is pure junk. I have had this unit for 6 weeks and the VCR portion is broken. It will playback tapes recorded on my SONY combo unit, but it won't playback tapes it records. About 50% of the time it will record and playback at SP,,but never on SLP. Funny thing is if you tape something on SLP, it will play on other VCRs but not on itself. So trying to dub some of my old VCR tapes onto disk is pretty impossible right now. BTW,,when the tape portion stops it sounds like the entire thing is going to explode with the loud clunk it makes.
Of course it breaks 5 weeks after I buy if so Best Buy won't take it back for an excahnge. I am not done arguing with them but I think I am out of luck and I don't think it is very fair they sell junk then won't exchange it.
For the warranty I am still fighting also with Toshiba. As someone else posted, Toshiba will want me to send this back to them,,but they claim I never registered the warranty, which I did. Now they have made me photocopy the reciepts and take a picture of the box it came in, email that to them, and they will let me know when it is registered so I can fight them to get it repaired. I have read other reviews that pretty much say the unit will be gone for a month before they get it back.
So if things change, I will edit this but for now I am pretty sorry I bought this and I think Best Buy should treat thier customers a little better.

What's great about it: Picture was Great (while it worked)
What's not so great: Infant failure (one week), Poor Toshiba Support.
First off, I am NOT pleased at all that my DVR620 failed to turn on less than a week after purchasing it. Toshiba Tech Support has proved to be not any better than the product at this point.
I called Toshiba, and after being put on hold for over 20 minutes, I was told an e-mail would be sent to me within 24 hours with further directions for my return. 48 hours later, and no e-mail, I called Tech Support again, and yet again was put on hold (Only 10 minutes this time - Still not impressed). I have given my information (name, product model number, serial number, phone number, e-mail address, etc...) at LEAST four different times. Isn't your customer database smarter than that? The amount of times that I had to repeat myself is beyond ridiculous.
I just spent $39.75 to return my brand new DVR620 for an infant failure repair. I would have thought that a Pre-Paid service could have been provided for such a failure. I certainly hope that the machine works as expected upon its return. I also hope that the DVD (Captian America) that was stuck in the machine when it died is returned in usable condition as well.

What's great about it: Set up and use.
What's not so great: I'm still wondering.
I've had many combo unit's, though this Toshiba is the first that enables a person to record or playback in the VHS or DVD modes. I've only had it a month, so I'm certainly in the initial learning stages. It's a CLEAN well designed unit that I'm looking forward to many year's of happiness using.
To one & all, I say buy it and have an exciting expierence!

Based on the review of the Toshiba recorder without the vcr I was not expeting very good results from the DVR620 player. Surprisingly I am very satified with the product. The picture quality is not great but pretty good and it is easy to use. Have had it for 2 1/2 months and so far no problems.
