What's great about it: Entertaining information "about" drums, too, plus instruction.
What's not so great: I have not listened to the CD, so I rated it "Average".
This author is credible and amazing. Rick Mattingly does an excellent job of getting a person started on drum set, AND with respect to the reader. He is realistic, but entertaining and knowledgeable.
I purchased this as a review tool, as I had not read music or used any kind of learning materials in several years, but was ready to get back into it, and found this book to not only reinforce things I already knew, but even after 40+ years of playing, there are several worthwhile items I found inside, including drum "charts" that typically a hobbyist might not get to see, PLUS various notation for drum solo's from different genre's.
Get this to augment your rudiment studies and as a primer for making music or drums a career. It sounds corny but it's not, it covers it "From Start to Stardom!". Good luck out there! bp
