What's great about it: It has a little bit of everything.
What's not so great: No lyrics in the CD insert.
First, I'd like to say that I usually stick to Trance and Progressive for my electronic music. If you're looking for just standard 4/4 time club tracks, you may be disappointed. However if you stick around and have a listen, you'll find something even better.
Brian Transeau (BT) is an artist that I originally didn't follow very closely. After I finally sat down and gave him a fair chance, I was instantly hooked on his unique sound in an ocean full of great artists. These Hopeful Machines continues to provide a rich and full experience for those that are willing to give him a chance. With this album, you get two CDs lasting about an hour each. Each CD is blended so that the tracks flow nicely together to give you a continuous experience that makes you want to start the CD at the beginning each time you pop it in.
There are call backs to the many different sound styles BT has used in his previous albums and all are amazing. For the electronic fans, his signature stutter effect is intact and a few songs will ring louder for you. For music fans that swing toward more Rock music and such, there are tracks with well utilized drum and guitar. A few of the songs will make you forget you're listening to an electronic artist. Also, I can't forget the moments of ambient music that help draw you in and is a reminder that electronic music is much more than just a club beat.
BT is certainly an artist that puts a lot of effort and heart into his music. If you're a BT fan, get this album! If you enjoy electronic music like I do, this will be a very worthy and fresh addition to your collection. If you're on the fence or are unsure about electronic music, this could the album you're looking for.

What's great about it: What isn't great about it?
This will be for fellow BT fans and newer listeners who are perhaps on the edge and have just discovered BT. BT is a great musician and this newest album proves it. The progression between albums have been phenominal and this one doesn't dissapoint.
Every track flows into the next. For $14 and getting 2 hours worth of music is a bargain. Please purchase this album don't download and steal it, we as fans of him guaruntee that BT is worth every cent if not more. Listen to tracks The Emergency and Rose of Jericho and you will see what I'm talking about. Electro heads will groove and love this album. If you like artists such as Daft Punk/Benny Bennassi/David Guetta and so on, you will be lifted when you hear this album.
The music itself has a little bit of everything for everyone. It is easy listening, melodic, fun, groovy, danceable and simple to understand. It's not techno, don't be fooled. "These Hopeful Machines" will wow you and make you appreciate the art behind how music should be made by an artist who has a real passion creating it.
This album will go down in history as being one of the best albums ever created in the Electronic/Dance category. But that is just my opinion. Get it yourself and see what it's like.

What's great about it: THIS IS A MUST HAVE!!!!
BT is a master in his field and this is this combination of all the things that have made him stand out since his first album. Rock, dance, electronic, this album is the meeting point of all of BT's strengths.
The songs and production are absolutely spectacular. It's like the experience of a great film, except as music. You will not be able to stop listening for two hours. The songs are as great the first time you hear them as they are the 100th time.
