I purchased a new Dell but to save money I planned to add upgrades myself. This was the first upgrade, I was already used to having a Blue-Ray player in my previous PC so I needed to make sure I could take it to the next level and have 25GB discs to use as backup media. So far its works great!

I couldn't be happier with this Blu-ray drive. Very easy to install. I love that you can read/write pretty much everything. I admit I haven't played or burned a blu-ray yet, but I'm sure it will be amazing to watch and easy to burn. Highly recommended as a necessary upgrade to old optical drives you might have!!!

I bought a new computer. I upgraded the power supply, video card & installed this Blue-ray burner & the 12X LG model. I downloaded DVDFAB 8. I have been backing up my blue-rays with no coasters. I use Opiical Quantum 4 speed & 6 speed. They run about $1 each. Now the kids can have there own copy. These two burners play great & record great. Takes about an hour to back up a blue-ray. I have backed up my files on to Blue-ray disk & it worked great.
No issues with installing burners or software on Win 7.
I think most problems happen by computer conflict or human error.

i dont know whats going on but i just installed this thing and it wont read any of my 3d dvd movies. i bought it to make a backup of the ones i own. this product should work straight out the box and it doesnt. its already been a hour im trying to figure this out and im mad! so far my search has come up with tons of other people having the same problem with no solution!

What's great about it: Easy installation & a great player

Not sure where some of the negative reviewers got their experiences as their comments does not reflect what I experienced with this player.
This is an excellent player. It was easy to install and I have not had any problem playing new releases for the past couple of weeks. It HAS auto play and it installs a program that automatically CHECKS for the latest firmware. If there is a new firmware, it asks you if you would like to install the new firmware. The 12x is the latest player but not much of a difference from 10x. I have had no issues with the functions that I have checked to date and would definitely recommend this player to everyone.
The only thing I don't like is the regional coding. It only allows you to change it 5 times. Why not make it a universal blu-ray player? I guess that is what Sony and the blu-ray association decision and not necessarily LG's decision.
I was lucky to have the 12% silver premier discount coupon plus it was $30 off from my local Best Buy when I purchased it. Even with the discounts it was still over $100. I wish it was under $100.

What's great about it: Plays DVDs OK
What's not so great: Short lifespan, absolutely NO support from the manufacturer.
Many times I have BluRay movies that require firmware updates in order for them to play. LG has DISCONTINUED this product. NO firmware updates are available, and there never will be. This is a product with a VERY SHORT LIFESPAN. It is no longer supported. Next time you get a Blu Ray disk that requires a firmware update in order to play, you are out of luck!

I had a BB gift card to burn. I didn't really need this drive, but it was on my "nice to have" list.
First of all, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, which is probably key to my review. The hardware installation was a snap. Pull out the old DVD writer, slap this one in. Plug the included SATA cable into an available SATA port and into the drive. The box also included a modular to SATA power adapter for those who need it. Booted up Windows. Immediately recognized as a BD drive. Here is where the problems start.
First test ... Bluray movie. Popped in Ultraviolet Bluray. No auto start. Okay, I'll play with the configuration, later. Open Explorer and play the drive manually. Error: "this DVD is a format Windows Media Player does not recognize." (Really? The Vista machine I gave to my in-laws had no problem playing Bluray movies in Media Player.) I really don't need yet another media player, but I'll load the one included on the CD. Put in the included CD. No autorun, again. Tried to launch autorun manually. No luck. Went into the folder for PowerDVD install to launch manually. Error: "Application error" on trying to install. Well, I at least need the label writer for the Lightscribe functionality. Application error on that one, too. Went to manufacturer's website to look for more current downloads or support. The BH10LS30 is not even a choice in either the Support or Download section. I don't intend to sit on the phone for hours to get something working that I don't absolutely need, anyway. The only application I was able to load was the LG Toolbox. The upshot is that this drive will be going back to BB with updated firmware.
Side note: The included applications were all x86 apps. They may function without a problem on Windows XP.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Once I figured out how to install this thing (mostly due to my inexperience) in my new Dell desktop, everthing has worked just great. I've only had it about a month but I have played blurays with it as well as burned some. I will be sure and edit this if my opinion changes, but so far so good!

Largely due to the Windows 7 OS, but still the easiest drive I have ever installed. The driver disc included with the product performed as advertised and the drive has been operating flawlessly since I mounted the drive in my system. GREAT PRODUCT for CD/DVD/BD authoring and playing for both the hobbyist and the pro.

Finally a PC Blu-ray player/writer with decent hardware and price, this is my first PC BD burner and I must say I'm impressed with it, installation was a breeze, it comes with the needed cables (Sata and Power)
The software that comes with it is decent but not impressive, it's also a little outdated, however it DOES work and it is NOT a trial as it is the case with most of the software which comes bundled to hardware these days, once in a while you get a little notification that invites you to upgrade to the latest version, which of course you need to pay if you wish to.
Remember that to be able to play BD copyrighted content on your PC you must have a monitor which supports HDCP otherwise you wont be able to play movie discs with protected content.
Windows 7 recognized and installed the drivers automatically and smoothly as soon as I powered on the PC.
In short this is a good buy and good job LG for making this affordable item of good quality available.

I bought this burner to go with my new HD camcorder to make hi-def Blu-Rays of all the events and my little girls growing up. I must say it is simply amazing. The speed and quality even on a regular dvd is great but when you do a Blu-Ray disk WOW!!! I own an older LG lcd 42" Tv, 20" computer monitor, washer and dryer, and now this Blu-Ray burner. I love everyone of my LG products.

The drive is excellent, does everything it's supposed to. However I'm a little disappointed with the enclosed software, it's not the full version and therefore you cannot adjust the video settings, picture is bright on playback. $100 though, worth it.

I got this drive for an early Christmas present...and so far have been pleased. I haven't burned many Blu-rays yet but the ones I have burned have been without issues and have burned faster than the BD-Rs rated speed for the disk.

This drive plays 3D Blue-ray's with ease. With this drive combined with Cyberlink Powerdvd 10, you can play 3D Blue-ray's on any HD screen in Analytic red/cyan 3D and still retain the color. Have not yet burned anything yet, but will. When playing any DVD/BD use only one HDCP monitor/projector. For my PC I can only play them on ethior my samsung or Epson. See Specs

What's great about it: Can read/write any media type out there
This is an amazing drive at an affordable price. Can now read/write to any disc media out there. The drive is fast, quiet, and so far no issues at all.
Comes with a decent software suite and cables.
One thing to keep in mind is that if you are planning on watching Blu-ray Discs on your computer you need a monitor that supports HDCP. Many older ones do not and you won't be able to watch copy protected Blu-Rays on your computer.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Works! I can watch BD's on my computer that has a wide screen 1080p monitor.
What's not so great: Has gloss black faceplate instead of flat black like other LG products
Fully compatible with other LG products and allows for "copy on the fly"video/photo/data disks without swapping.
It uses a blue LED activity light which is a nice touch. My other LG products use a green LED. Blue for Blu-Ray! Cool.
Has a decent software package: "Blu-ray Disk Suite" that allows the average user to do the basics without spending more money on the high-end pro-ware. It (software package) doesn't have transcription capability so if video/photo/data project is more than 23 gigabyte you'll have to use 50GB blanks. (They are roughly 9 times the price of 25GB blanks. You may want to keep that in mind when mastering.)
Really nice for full computer backup. $2 per blank to backup nearly 25GB? Oh yeah!
Some locations have the OEM (no box) version which also has the software bundle. You may have to ask the Geeks. (I did.) Save some bucks and a tree. :)
